About Wolf and Shepherd

I don’t think I’ve ever had a pair of comfortable dress shoes[1]. I grab a style that looks good and don’t think much about them—that is, until I actually wear them and immediately regret my decision.

Wolf and Shepherd is a modern footwear brand that specializes in men’s dress shoes—but not just any men’s dress shoes.

Equipped with the cushion and support you love from high-tech runners, they’re designed to look just like luxury kicks.

The brand’s mission is clear and simple: deliver a line of luxury shoes that are stylish and comfortable for any lifestyle. Although their focus is on dress shoes, their collection also includes a line of sneakers and accessories.

With a social community of 60k, Wolf and Shepherd has been featured by the likes of Forbes, GQ, Business Insider, and Sports Illustrated, and has a team of brand ambassadors that includes Gronk and Steve Nash.

In the following Wolf and Shepherd Shoes review, I’ll guide you through an informative and honest look at the company and their products to help you decide if they’re the right fit.

Overview Of Wolf and Shepherd

Let me cut to the chase here; every man’s closet needs a fancy pair of dress shoes. If you’re reading this, then chances are that you’re looking to invest in a pair.

Whether for your work attire, a special occasion, or your everyday getup—the problem is that we often choose style over comfort. That’s something I’m certainly guilty of.

This is where the beauty of Wolf and Shepherd comes in. I was pretty stoked to read up on this brand.

Merging style and comfort in a single pair of shoes, whether it’s dancing at a wedding, sprinting to work, or grabbing drinks, Wolf and Shepherd’s shoes are functional, comfortable, and look beautifully professional.

Their dress shoes have already got me saying, “I’m never taking these off,” and you can expect to say the same.

Wolf and Shepherd was founded by Justin Schneider in 2014. His personal experience as a former athlete, as well as a designer for Adidas, allowed him to be an expert in the footwear industry.

He then seized the opportunity to create high-performing dress shoes that delivered sneaker-level comfort. Seriously, why has no one thought of this sooner?

The secret behind the brand’s innovative idea is the combination of American comfort technology and the fact that they’re handcrafted by artisans in Portugal.

The result? A premium, classy, and contemporary pair of dress shoes that’s been praised by the likes of magazines, athletes, and now yours truly.

So, what’s the catch? Well, for such high-quality dress shoes, the price tag does run a little higher than the average pair found in generic retail stores.

However, I’ve got great news for you. If you’re iffy about the price, Wolf and Shepherd has partnered up with affirm to allow for 3, 6, or 12 interest-free payments.

Check out the rest of my Wolf and Shepherd Shoes review for a breakdown of the features and benefits of their products. Below, you’ll find the highlights of the brand that summarize its core values:

Highlights

  • Range of professional & casual designs
  • Designed in Los Angeles, handcrafted in Portugal
  • Built-in comfort technology for sneaker-level cushion
  • Fine Italian uppers
  • Endorsed by athletes
  • Free shipping & returns

Where Are Wolf and Shepherd Products Made?

So, where and how’s it all made? As I mentioned earlier in this Wolf and Shepherd Shoes review, the unique comfort technology the brand uses in its shoes is designed and developed in the U.S.

The leather is from Italy and the final product is fully assembled by artisans in Porto, Portugal.

Now, you might be wondering if it’s really all necessary, or if the exhausting process makes any comparable difference in their dress shoes. The answer is yes, without a doubt.

You can take my word for it when I say that athletic comfort in a pair of dress shoes is a necessity. But if you’ve ever worn a pair, I think you know that too.

So why Italian leather and why US comfort tech? Well, because they’re both the best at their game.

Let me break down their shoes’ construction to give you a closer look at the difference quality makes:

  • Running shoe technology that delivers maximum flexibility, comfort, and performance
  • Memory foam inner soles
  • Italian calfskin and sheepskin lining for an unimaginably soft and genuine feel
  • Full-grain leather finished with vegetable oil for durability and a water-resistant coating
  • Painted and stained by hand for protection and a detailed look

Doesn’t that sound just plain comfortable? My feet are singing already, which is a lot different than the barking they normally do in dress shoes.

Wolf and Shepherd Dress Shoes Review

Senna Wingtip

I’ve never been a huge fan of the wingtip pattern; mainly because it seemed to overpower the overall aesthetic of the shoes.

But with that said, trying the Senna Wingtip lace-ups have definitely changed my mind. Wolf and Shepherd’s take on the classic dress shoes have gone above and beyond my expectations.

The Senna Wingtip dress shoes offer a modern look and a sophisticated feel through their sleek pattern and darkened edges. I especially love the honey color which gives the style a whole new layer of texture and appeal.

I very much enjoy the Italian calfskin leather, sheepskin lining, and support memory foam—they really create an unbeatable feeling of comfort.

Perfect for the smart or contemporary outfit, these shoes were designed to be worn every day and will have you standing out.

These beautiful shoes are made in either honey/white, honey/oak, and black/white, and are $345.

It looks like these guys have been discontinued and replaced with the Crossover Wingtip for $250, but if you’re sold on the above style, you may be able to find it at a partner store. Otherwise, check out what folks have to say about the updated model below.

What customers are saying: “Awesome, got lots of compliments on these shoes. These allowed me to look good while still being able to get around at work quickly and comfortably.”

Gunner Driver

Loafers are must-haves in every closet. I’m especially fond of the style for its versatility to work with any look I’m going for.

Whether I’m aiming for modern-casual or dapper and professional, Wolf and Shepherd’s rendition of the classic moccasin does exactly what I want it to do.

The Gunner Driver is trendy, stylish, and looks as beautiful as they feel—and they have me walking on clouds.

The detailed stitching and the simple aesthetic work wonders with all my outfits. The suede edition is my personal favorite as it offers more character and personality to my attire.

Speaking of suede, the loafers feature a water-resistant coating and rubber outsoles for the best durability and comfort.

The Gunner Driver is perfect for all conditions, making it an impeccable choice for any day. The Gunner Drivers are available in navy, honey, black, and stone and are currently priced at $195.

What customers are saying: “Great fit for these driver shoes, spot on. The leather supple and the shoes are very comfortable with no pressure points. I’m getting compliments on these. Great with my shorts, jeans or casual slacks.”

Gambit Double-Monk

Monk straps are a classy approach for a polished look. The Gambit Double-Monk is Wolf and Shepherd’s take on the dress shoes, and it doesn’t disappoint.

The best thing I love about them is the creative flare that it adds to any attire.

The Gambit Double-Monk delivers an elegant and sleek aesthetic with its twin buckled closure feature. The color tones are also playful, rich, and smooth to complement your personal style.

I love that I could wear these to work and then out to dinner after. They get bonus points for being so versatile.

The dress shoes offer thermal rubber soles and a foam heel which makes them super comfy and adaptable to your feet. The design also includes a resoleable forefoot and heel meaning your investment in the dress shoes will last even longer.

The Gambit Double-Monk is available in various colors and costs $365. This is another style that’s been discontinued on the brand’s site.

I recommend checking out the Monaco Loafer ($195) for a similarly polished look (and quite well reviewed as you can see below).

What customers are saying: “Super comfortable. Have gotten multiple comments about them. Would recommend!”

Bannister Derby Patent

When looking to purchase a pair of dress shoes, black-tie occasions aren’t necessarily the first thing to come to mind.

But, from my experience, it’s always best to be prepared. The occasion may arise more often than you think. Wolf and Shepherd’s Bannister Derby Patent does just the trick and gets you dressed for the part while looking flawless.

The Bannister Derby Patent gleams with its sleek patent leather ensuring you shine at every opportunity.

I love the charming, classy, and glistening style of the dress shoes which have given me no problem when trying to make a good impression.

The black-tie dress shoes are made with 100% calfskin leather upper, leather soles with rubber traction, and a memory foam footbed which makes the comfort level unheard of.

Just because you need to mingle and be on your best behavior doesn’t mean your feet can’t be comfortable and look fabulous.

These guys are also $365 but have received a bit of an upgrade in the past few years.

You’ll now find the Derby style made from SwiftKnit for a more casual look—and a more digestible price of $189. Check out what one buyer had to say about the updated style below.

What customers are saying: “Simply amazing! I’ve been using it everyday. The level of comfort and elegance are on point! Well done!”

Glider Sneakers

When it comes to sneakers, in most cases, I’m always for the pair with a minimalistic design. I’ve always enjoyed a clean and simple aesthetic that works best with the rest of my closet.

Wolf and Shepherd’s Glider Sneakers deliver everything I could ask for in a modern, dress-casual style.

Out of all the available colors, my attention was immediately drawn to the Glider Sneakers in smoke.

The shade of grey is a perfect balance between white and black but stands out well on its own. The tone proved to be an impeccable choice when I paired it with a suit, dark jeans, and even my favorite shorts.

The Glider Sneakers were made for an active lifestyle by incorporating the appeal of dress shoes into a pair of sneakers. Using premium Italian leather and memory foam cushioning, they’re both flexible and durable.

Even after a test run, the shoes held their end and my feet felt superb. The all-in-one Glider Sneakers are currently priced at $225.

Though these are no longer available on the brand’s site, you might find them through a partner retailer. Looking for something similar? Check out the Crossover Victory Trainer for $269. Here’s what one buyer had to say about these shoes.

What customers are saying: “I bought these for vacation and wore them every day while we were on vacation with no problems. love the look and feel of these shoes.”

SwiftKnit Derby

Whether hiking, taking a trip to the cottage, or running errands for a day, versatile and comfortable shoes are a valuable asset.

Wolf and Shepherd’s SwiftKnit Derby has the classic style of a day shoe but has a few added touches that make them a unique, everyday addition to my closet.

Made with stretch knit material and a zoned knit upper, these SwiftKnit Derby shoes hug your feet for all-day comfort that is durable enough to last.

The removable FlatForm memory foam in the footbed also provides added arch support during long walks or even a day on the town.

These shoes also provide you with the added security of premium leather, a high-density midsole, and a thermal rubber outsole so they can stay your go-to shoe for years to come.

Coming in 6 classic and 5 limited edition colors, the SwiftKnit Derby is $195.

What customers are saying: “Bought these for my husband to wear in Europe for the amount of walking we would have each day. He loves them. Very comfortable and he wore them every day.”

Wolf and Shepherd Sizes

Shoe sizes can become a whirlwind of problems and I’ve had my fair share of it.

These shoes tore apart my heels. I have to say that I think they are poorly made and all about marketing / instagram placement.

Answered by Nat (3 years ago) Reply

I agree. Same thing happened to me and the customer service experience is terrible. I wore them for one day, blisters all over my heals and they would not take them back.

Asked by Alton Thomas PhD (3 years ago) Reply

I’ve had a totally different experience than the other comments. I purchased the honey and onyx Steve Nash hybrids. When they arrived they were slightly larger than I needed but Wolf & Shepherd exchanged them with no issues nor additional postage. I have been wearing both pair regulary for over three months now with no heal blister formation nor discomfort. I have received so many compliments that I’ve lost count. Sorry you guys had such a bad experience with these shoes, maybe you should try a different size or style of shoe. Some of the BEST and most comfortable shoes I’ve ever owned!!

Asked by Kurt (3 years ago) Reply

Their shoes are too narrow, and the leather is very hard, so it will dig into your achillies. They trick you into thinking they have a 30 day return policy, but if you try to use it, they will make up excuses. In the end, I paid more than twice the price of the next-most expensive shoes I ever purchased, and I got absolutely nothing I can use. I’m just out a big pile of cash. This company is the worst.

Asked by DGARCH (3 years ago) Reply

Wolf & Shepherd – I had a terrible experience purchasing their hybrid shoes – they look good, but it took 4 months get since they are so limited in sizes – plus they are a ripoff business – they would not accept a return of 1 pair when I bought a 10 and 10-1/2 shoes with the intension of returning the one that didn’t fit. STAY AWAY – REAL POOR BUSINESS MODEL – NOT A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION TYPE COMPANY.

Asked by Prof. Deutsch (3 years ago) Reply

Customer of Allen Edmonds for 30+ years, always comfortable, made to my size (10.5 EEE), premium leather and can be resoled. My favorite wingtips are going on 20 years, 2 resoles, and fit like a glove. Was considering a pair of these shoes but could not find any information on widths available until I read this: standard size D only.
Until they offer different widths I’ll stick with Allen.

Asked by James Clements (3 years ago) Reply

Don’t waste your money on this garbage company. They do a real good job on presentation but the product is inferior and should be exposed! The worst shoes ever and totally overpriced. These are bargain basement shoes that should sell for no more than $39. They will hurt your feet!

Asked by Anne Tawney-Mason (3 years ago) Reply

Scam !!!!! I returned a pair the same day I received. Perfect condition – in box – they received Monday, June 16 2020 at 1:24 pm. On Thursday, June 18, 2020 Inquired about my refund. They said due to California laws they couldn’t do anything until June 26. But they could exchange the shoes. So I say if you have the paperwork to exchange the shoes why don’t you have the same paperwork to refund my money??. They said it was due to their warehouse. I call BS. I want my money back

Asked by Dave (2 years ago) Reply

A bunch of douchebags that run this company. The shoes are too narrow.

Asked by Rick (2 years ago) Reply

Like the looks of these shoes but 8 out of 9 reviews were very negative, think I will take a harder look before I buy.

Answered by Dwayne M. Andrews (2 years ago) Reply

I concur. Me too. Exactly.

Drivers?
Asked by Sam Duncan (2 years ago) Reply

Black only Drivers? Deals? Size 12?

So glad I read the reviews.
Asked by Dwayne M. Andrews (2 years ago) Reply

When seeing the ad I was thrilled thinking I’ll be able to fill the void that’s left by the inability to locate Cole Haan Zerogrand sz. 14. They’re out of stock every place I shop. After reading so many negative reviews with the same issues, I think I may pivot from the Crossover.
