Koio Shoes Review

As someone who loves stylish and comfortable shoes, I was excited to try out Koio sneakers and share my thoughts in this review.

Koio is a luxury footwear brand that offers a range of sneakers, hi-tops, and flip-flops for both men and women. The brand prides itself on using high-quality materials and traditional Italian craftsmanship to create shoes that are both fashionable and functional.

Koio Shoes Review

After testing several pairs of Koio sneakers for nearly a year, I can confidently say that they are worth the investment if you have the budget. While they may be pricier than other sneakers on the market, the attention to detail and quality of materials used make them stand out from the crowd.

From the hand-finished calfskin leather to the durable rubber soles, every aspect of these shoes is carefully crafted to ensure both comfort and style. Whether you’re looking for a classic white sneaker or a bold, colorful option, Koio has something for everyone.

Brand Overview

Koio Shoes is a luxury footwear brand that was founded in 2014 by Chris Wichert and Johannes Ouodt. The brand is based in New York City and specializes in handmade crafted sneakers for men, women, and infants.

History of Koio

Koio Shoes was born out of a desire to create a luxury sneaker brand that was both stylish and comfortable. The founders, Chris and Johannes, were tired of the limited options available in the market and wanted to create sneakers that were versatile enough to be worn with any outfit.

The brand quickly gained popularity and has since become a favorite among sneaker enthusiasts. Koio Shoes has also collaborated with various artists and designers to create limited edition sneakers that are highly sought after.

Philosophy of Koio

Koio Shoes prides itself on its commitment to quality and craftsmanship. The brand uses only the finest materials, including full-grain Italian leather and hand-painted edges, to create its sneakers.

Koio Shoes also believes in transparency and sustainability. The brand works closely with its suppliers to ensure that all materials are ethically sourced and that workers are paid fair wages.

Overall, Koio Shoes is a brand that values quality, craftsmanship, and sustainability. The brand’s commitment to these values has made it a favorite among sneaker enthusiasts and fashionistas alike.

Material and Craftsmanship

When it comes to luxury sneakers, material and craftsmanship are two crucial factors to consider. In this section, I will discuss the quality of leather and the handmade process that Koio uses to create their sneakers.

Quality of Leather

Koio claims that their sneakers are made of Vitello calf leather. However, upon further investigation, it appears that the leather used in their sneakers is actually cow leather.

Despite this, the leather has all the same characteristics as calf leather without any of the ethical issues some buyers may find with the latter.

The leather used in Koio sneakers is of high quality and is incredibly soft to the touch. It is also durable and can withstand daily wear and tear. The leather is sourced from Italy, where it is tanned using traditional methods to ensure that it retains its natural look and feel.

Handmade Process

Koio takes pride in the fact that their sneakers are handmade by skilled artisans in Italy. The handmade process involves cutting the leather by hand, stitching it together, and attaching the sole. This process ensures that each sneaker is unique and has its own character.

The attention to detail in the handmade process is impressive. The stitching is neat and precise, and the leather is carefully cut to ensure that each piece fits perfectly together. The sole is also attached with care, ensuring that it is securely fastened to the upper.

Overall, the material and craftsmanship of Koio sneakers are of high quality. The leather is soft, durable, and sourced from Italy, while the handmade process ensures that each sneaker is unique and has its own character.

Comfort and Fit

As someone who values comfort over everything else when it comes to shoes, I was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable Koio sneakers are.

The moment I put them on, I could tell that they were made with high-quality materials. The leather is soft and supple, and the lining is smooth and breathable. I did not experience any discomfort or rubbing, even after wearing them for several hours.

One thing to note is that Koio sneakers do not come in half sizes. This can make it a bit challenging to find the right fit if you are in between sizes. I usually wear a size 8.5, but I had to size up to a 9 in Koio sneakers.

If you are unsure about what size to get, I recommend ordering two sizes and returning the one that does not fit.

Another thing I appreciate about Koio sneakers is that they are not too narrow or too wide. They have a comfortable, snug fit that does not feel constricting. The tongue and collar are padded, which adds to the overall comfort level.

In terms of arch support, Koio sneakers are not the most supportive shoes I have ever worn. However, they do have a decent amount of arch support, especially for a casual sneaker. If you have flat feet or require a lot of arch support, you may need to add an insole to these sneakers.

Style and Design

When it comes to style and design, Koio sneakers are a perfect blend of classic and modern. The sneakers feature a sleek, minimalist design with no flashy logos or branding, making them a versatile option that can be dressed up or down.

The clean lines and simple silhouette of the sneakers give them an elegant and sophisticated look.

Koio sneakers are available in a variety of colors, from classic white to bold and bright hues. The brand also offers limited edition collections that feature unique and eye-catching designs.

The quality of the materials used in the sneakers is evident in their look and feel. The sneakers are made from premium Italian leather and feature hand-painted edges and waxed cotton laces.

One thing to note is that Koio only offers full sizes, which can make it challenging to find the perfect fit. However, the brand does offer a sizing guide on its website to help customers determine the best size for them.

It’s also worth noting that Koio sneakers are not cheap, with prices starting at around $250. However, the quality of the sneakers justifies the price tag, making them a worthwhile investment for those looking for a high-quality, stylish sneaker.

Overall, I love the style and design of Koio sneakers. They’re sleek, elegant, and versatile, making them a great addition to any wardrobe.

The variety of colors and limited edition collections make it easy to find a pair that fits your personal style, and the quality of the materials used ensures that the sneakers will last for years to come.

Variety and Options

When it comes to variety and options, Koio has a decent range of sneakers to choose from. They offer both men’s and women’s sneakers, as well as unisex styles. The brand also has a few different collections, each with its own unique look and feel.

One of Koio’s most popular collections is the Capri collection. These sneakers are made from full-grain calf leather and come in a range of colors, from classic white to bold red.

The Capri sneakers have a sleek, low-top design and minimal branding, making them a versatile choice that can be dressed up or down.

Another collection worth mentioning is the Primo collection. These high-top sneakers are made from a combination of suede and full-grain calf leather, giving them a unique texture and look.

The Primo sneakers come in a range of colors, from muted neutrals to bold hues like pink and green.

In addition to their standard sneaker collections, Koio also offers a few limited edition styles. These sneakers are often collaborations with other brands or artists and are released in small batches.

While these limited edition sneakers can be pricey, they offer a unique and exclusive look that you won’t find anywhere else.

Overall, I appreciate the variety and options that Koio offers. While they may not have as many styles as some other sneaker brands, the ones they do have are well-designed and high-quality.

Whether you’re looking for a classic white sneaker or something a bit more bold and unique, Koio has something to offer.

Price and Value

As someone who values quality over quantity, I’m willing to pay a premium for shoes that will last me a long time. That being said, I also want to make sure I’m getting my money’s worth. So, how do Koio shoes stack up in terms of price and value?

Let’s start with the price. Koio shoes are definitely on the pricier side, with their sneakers ranging from $178 to $298.

However, when compared to other luxury sneaker brands like Common Projects, which can cost upwards of $400, Koio shoes are actually quite reasonable. Plus, Koio offers free shipping and returns, so you can try them out risk-free.

Now, let’s talk about value. In my opinion, Koio shoes are worth the investment. The attention to detail and quality of materials used in their shoes is impressive.

For example, their sneakers are made from high-quality calfskin leather that is hand-finished for a polished look. They also use Margom rubber soles, which are known for their durability and comfort.

In addition to the quality of materials, Koio shoes are also versatile and timeless in design. They have a minimalist aesthetic with minimal branding, making them easy to dress up or down. This means you can wear them for years to come without worrying about them going out of style.

Overall, while Koio shoes may be a bit pricey upfront, I believe they offer great value in terms of quality, durability, and versatility. Plus, with their free shipping and returns policy, there’s no harm in giving them a try and seeing for yourself.

Customer Service

In my experience with Koio, their customer service has been satisfactory. They have a live chat feature on their website, which is quite useful for getting quick answers to any questions or concerns.

They also have a phone number and email address listed on their website for customers to contact them.

One thing I appreciated about Koio’s customer service was their willingness to exchange my shoes for a different size.

I had ordered a pair of sneakers that were too small, and they were happy to send me a new pair in a larger size, free of charge. The returns process was straightforward and hassle-free.

Another aspect of their customer service that stood out to me was their transparency about their production process. They have a section on their website that explains how their shoes are made and where they source their materials from.

This level of transparency is not common in the fashion industry, and it was refreshing to see.

Overall, I had a positive experience with Koio’s customer service. They were responsive, helpful, and transparent. However, it’s worth noting that some customers have reported issues with sizing inconsistencies, so it’s important to double-check the sizing chart before placing an order.

Sustainability Efforts

As someone who cares about the environment, I was impressed to learn about Koio’s sustainability efforts. The brand has made significant strides in reducing its environmental impact, from using eco-friendly materials to implementing sustainable practices in their production process.

One of Koio’s most notable sustainability efforts is the launch of their first 99% biodegradable sneaker in 2023, just in time for Earth Day. According to the brand, the shoe is made with biodegradable materials such as organic cotton, natural rubber, and a plant-based biopolymer.

The company is also committed to reducing waste by using recycled materials and minimizing the amount of packaging used in their products.

Another way Koio is prioritizing sustainability is by partnering with organizations that share their values. For example, the brand has collaborated with the non-profit organization One Tree Planted to plant a tree for every pair of sneakers sold.

This partnership not only helps to offset the carbon emissions associated with the production and shipping of the shoes but also supports reforestation efforts around the world.

Koio’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond their products and partnerships. The company has implemented sustainable practices in their production process, such as using solar power in their factories and reducing water usage.

They also prioritize ethical labor practices and work with factories that provide fair wages and safe working conditions for their employees.

Overall, I appreciate Koio’s dedication to sustainability and their efforts to reduce their environmental impact. It’s refreshing to see a luxury brand take responsibility for their role in the fashion industry’s impact on the planet and take steps to make a positive change.

After wearing and testing Koio Shoes, I can confidently say that they are worth the investment. The handcrafted Italian sneakers are made with high-quality materials and attention to detail, making them durable and comfortable for everyday wear.

One thing to note is that Koio Shoes are on the pricier side, but the quality of the product justifies the cost. The sneakers are versatile and can be dressed up or down, making them a great addition to any wardrobe.

Another benefit of Koio Shoes is their sizing. They offer a wide range of sizes, including half sizes, which can be difficult to find in other brands. This allows for a more customized fit and overall better comfort.

Overall, if you’re in the market for a high-quality, stylish sneaker that can withstand daily wear and tear, I highly recommend checking out Koio Shoes.

For such a claim as to italian leather, I assumed they would be a soft
very comfortable sneakers for me to walk in. Instead from the moment I
tried them on, they were a hard sneaker, and very very uncomfortable. I
cannot walk my 4 miles in these sneakers. I waited many months for them to go on sale, and because of the sale, I cannot return them.
