How Does Little Passports Work?

Little Passports Review

Little Passports is an educational subscription box service for kids. They have 5 different boxes to choose from, each suitable for a specific age group.

Boxes are shipped out every month and contain a selection of activities related to a specific theme, subject, or place. All you need to do is choose the subscription your child would like, then receive your box monthly.

Subscriptions are available monthly or for 6 or 12 month periods. Regardless of the subscription period, the full cost of the boxes must be paid at the time of purchase.

Those who don’t want a long subscription can choose the monthly option and cancel their subscription before the next billing date. The company also sells their boxes individually.

Little Passports partners with parents and educators to help create boxes that will thrill and engage your child. You want them to learn, and the best way for that to happen is to use interesting and varied teaching materials.

The brand’s boxes include a mix of hands-on and pen-to-paper activities, as well as fun extras like stickers, storybooks, comics, and other age-specific items. Plus, each box has been kid-tested to ensure they are fun and engaging.

Little Passports’ subscription plans are tailored to culture and geography, as well as STEM learning. The 5 plans the brand offers are,

  1. Early Explorers (3-5 years)
  2. World Edition (6-10 years)
  3. USA Edition (7-12 years)
  4. Science Junior (5-8 years)
  5. Science Expeditions 7-12 years)

You can cancel your subscription at any time, but if you sign up for a 6 or 12-month subscription and want to cancel mid-term, you cannot get a refund for the boxes you no longer wish to receive.

In the next section of this Little Passports review, I will break down exactly what you’ll find in each of their subscription plans.

Little Passports Culture & Geography Review

Little Passports Culture and Geography kits expose your children to different cultures and parts of the world. They’ll get to explore the planet through play-based activities related to science and geography

Let’s take a look at what is featured in their Early Explorers, World Edition, and USA Edition kits.

Little Passports Early Explorers Ages 3-5  Review

Spark your child’s curiosity for the world around them. Designed for the early learning stages, Early Explorers provides adventures to different places in the world, including natural wonders, landmarks, and oceans.

This kit will teach your child about the culture of different countries, showcasing traditional foods, art, and music. Early Explorers also teaches about animals, insects, and habitats that are found all over the world, helping to see how diverse and special the earth truly is.

In their first kit, your child will receive an orange suitcase packed to the brim with activities, stickers, trading cards, maps, and letters. In the months that follow, the Early Explorers kits will have a new theme that helps your child dive deeper into other cultures and environments.

Little Passports World Edition Ages 6-10 Review

World Edition provides kids with a more advanced view of the world. They’ll be able to zoom in closer on other countries, learning specific details about their culture and history. These kits help your child to explore the world one country at a time

The adventure starts in Brazil, where your child will receive their own passport to ‘enter’ that country. The passport is a nice touch, making their experience more personal and inspiring their imagination

The first World Edition kit also includes a wall-sized map of the country, a chapter book, stickers, photos, activity books, and souvenirs. Your child will also have access to more information about the country online if they want to explore further.

In the coming months, they’ll receive ‘trips’ to other countries via Little Passports Egypt, Australia, China, England, France, Iceland, India, Japan, and more.

Each kit will contain a themed storybook, activity booklets, stickers, letters, collectible coins, hands-on activities, and online extras with the Little Passports Boarding Zone

Little Passports USA Edition Ages 7-12 Review

The USA isn’t covered in the World Edition kits, instead, it has its own subscription box set where kids get to travel to all 50 states. This is especially useful for families that have just moved to this wildly diverse country.

The USA Edition is primarily web-based, giving kids access to a special place on the Little Passports website that is all about each state they visit. They will follow Sam and Sofia’s (the Little Passports guides) adventures through the states, as well as check out photos and play a specific game for each state.

They can even build a hurricane for Florida (that hopefully steers clear of people and houses) and make pizzas for customers in New York.

The USA Edition covers all 50 states in 26 months. The first month your child will get their USA Discovery Kit, then each month after they will travel to two different states.

The Discovery Kit contains a USA field guide, scratch book, USA map, welcome letter, and a folder to store all of the notes, activities, and photos they complete. In the following months, they will receive a 32-page activity state journal and access to all online activities and games.

Little Passports STEM Review

STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. In the Little Passports STEM subscriptions, your child will solve real scientific mysteries and complete hands-on Little Passports projects tailored to a certain theme.

Featured next in this Little Passports review, I’ll fill you in on what to expect with the Science Junior and Science Expedition kits.

Little Passports Science Junior Ages 5-8 Review

Science Junior introduces your child to fun, engaging scientific experiments while teaching them about the way things work. This package will cover themes such as volcanoes, chimpanzees, optical illusions, deep-sea explorations, and so much more.

The first month starts with the Science Junior Introductory Kit, focusing on Weddell Seals.

The introductory kit will teach kids how to make their own Weddell seal walker, a toy with a mechanism that makes it move. The kit also includes a full-color magazine and adventure comic book with pen-to-paper activities to complete.

They will also get an Antarctica board game, as well as collectible trading cards that include fun scientific facts about the continent.

In the following months, the kits will focus on a specific theme and include hands-on science experiments, comics, games, activities, trading cards, and science stickers.

Little Passports Science Expeditions Ages 8+ Review

Encourage your child’s curiosity with Science Expeditions. This package provides even more knowledge than the previous one, allowing kids to get to the nitty-gritty of how things work

Some examples of topics covered in this package include forensic science, caves and crystals, hydrology, optics and vision, rockets, and more.

Science Expeditions launches your child into a scientific world with a Science expeditions tote bag, a lab notebook, forensic science experiment kit, fingerprint analysis card and ink pad, as well as a booklet with games and activities.

Watch your child make scientific discoveries while learning real facts about biology, physics, and chemistry.

In the following months, your child will receive kits centered around a different theme, with exciting items that help them problem solve and experiment in their own way

The kits include a comic book, mysteries, science experiments, achievement badges, and access to online content.

Little Passports Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Little Passports Review

To give you a better understanding of the brand within this Little Passports review, I combed the web to find out what customers are saying about the company

Ahead, you’ll find customer reviews sourced from untoldmorsels, thedeliberatemom, and Amazon, all expanding on the pros and cons of the company.

A Little Passports review by Katy Clarke for the Early Explorers package on Untold Morsels told readers what she thought worked with this subscription, as well as what fell short. Clarke loved that the package provided quality entertainment for hours on end.

She said the kits contained “educational and high-quality materialsand that overall, “this is a well thought out, mess free program that you can use for several hours.”

In terms of what didn’t work, Clarke said that she wished she could choose the topic her child received, as some did not interest her child at all. She also noted that you can’t just give these kits to your kids, you’ll need to supervise and help them with some activities

Jennifer from The Deliberate Mom reviewed the World Edition kit after her daughter received the first discovery box. She noted that the box was definitely kid-tested and included good quality materials and souvenirs.

The reviewer wrote that “The characters (Sam & Sofia) are very likable,” a definite plus, as the entire program follows the pair around the world.

The other thing she pointed out about this subscription is that it can be shared by siblings. You don’t need to buy two separate subscriptions, since the materials are personalized: packages can be addressed to all children in your household

The only negative that Jennifer found was in terms of the price. The subscription can get costly if you have to pay for international shipping every month

Little Passports Review

Little Passports World Edition is rated 4.2/5 stars by nearly 600 Amazon customers. Positive reviews speak of the kids loving the characters, coins, and other mementos that come in the box.

One customer wrote, “The box is sturdy and the materials that come along are high quality. We immediately hinged up the world map and cannot wait for his next shipment to arrive. He literally asks once a day. I was impressed with the samples that [came] in the first box and the surprise of which country you will get next is so exciting.”

Other subscription boxes were also favorably rated on Amazon:

  • Early Explorers: 4.2/5 stars out of nearly 400 reviews
  • Science Expeditions: 4.2/5 stars out of over 150 reviews
  • Science Jr. Premium: 4.2/5 stars out of 150+ reviews

Little Passports is a wonderful idea that has inspired children globally to learn with their kits. While I do acknowledge the minority of negative ratings, many parents and children alike eagerly await a new box each month.

Is Little Passports Worth It?

Little Passports Review

As with everything in life, preferences vary. There are bound to be kids that don’t appreciate the brand’s subscription boxes, and that’s totally ok, it just means they’re into other things.

Are Little Passports worth it? For those who are interested in culture, travel, and science, I believe the company’s kits are worth taking a look at. The brand also has promotions and free shipping for US customers.

The Little Passports price per box is about $23/month for a great starting point for you to expand upon at home.

I have to make a note in this Little Passports review that these kits do require adult help, at least the ones for younger ages. I think that’s a great thing and gives you a fun activity to do with your child while you watch them learn. You may even learn a thing or two yourself.
