There’s nothing wrong with simplicity. Sometimes, the most extravagant pieces aren’t always the most practical. Nanamica is a clothing brand that combines casual and sportswear suited to comfortable, everyday living. In other words, fashion and function meld together in this collection.
The young label has seen notable success in recent years. Nanamica has earned the attention of GQ and collaborated with big-name brands like The North Face. The company’s social media pages also have gained some traction, with about 109k followers on their primary Instagram.
If you’re in the market for some stylish, practical attire, you’re in luck. In this Nanamica review I’m going to look at the company’s history, bestsellers, customer ratings, and more, so you can decide if it’s time to make some room in your wardrobe.
Overview of Nanamica
Nanamica was founded in 2003 by Eiichiro Homma. As a child, he was fond of European styles and often made fashion choices that weren’t trend-driven. Over time, he discovered what aligned best with his personal style. His “outdoor chic” brand is now globally recognized for its advanced materials and sophisticated design.
The Tokyo-based company aims to create designs that go beyond “the boundaries of genre, age, or gender.” They also stay away from fast-fashion trends so consumers can have Nanamica pieces in their closets for years.
Nanamica also takes inspiration from the ocean. The name itself is Japanese for “house of the seven seas,” embodying Homma’s dream for the label to reach all corners of the globe. It emphasizes the brand’s strong identity around combining fashion and function.
When it comes to collaborations, Nanamica’s partnership with The North Face stems from the label’s early days. Nanamica takes The North Face gear and transforms it, replacing some elements with “high fashion materials” or updating the California-inspired gear with Nanamica’s signature style. This gives birth to The Purple Label collection.
With that brand knowledge, it’s time to steer this Nanamica review into some highlights.
- The brand offers functional and stylish clothing for everyday wear
- Pieces are manufactured using high-quality materials
- The company utilizes waterproof fabrics
- Many stockists worldwide
- Free shipping with an order minimum
- 14-day return policy
Practical clothing might not be everyone’s favorite aesthetic. But, Nanamica clothing is minimal but stylish enough that you’ll keep reaching for it on a daily basis.
If you’re looking to freshen up your outfit rotation, keep reading this Nanamica review as I cover the most popular items for both men and women.
Nanamica Women’s Review
As mentioned, Nanamica aims to go beyond gendered pieces. Their minimal designs are gender-neutral, but some items are more popular than others among women. So, let’s take a look at the popular items in this category.
Nanamica Gore-Tex Soutien Collar Coat Review
The Gore-Tex Soutien Collar Coat is sleek and simple. It’s made from 3-layer waterproof Gore-Tex materials, so you’ll stay protected from the elements. It also has raglan sleeves that allow for easy movement.
Despite its muted appearance, there’s a lot you can do with this versatile coat. Dress it up with a statement designer scarf or down with some white sneakers. It also comes in beige, navy, and black to pair well with any of your closet staples.
The Gore-Tex Soutien Collar Coat ranges from a women’s small to medium sizes. Add it to your cart for $830.
Nanamica Gore-Tex Hat Accessory Review
Another outdoor essential is Nanamica’s Gore-Tex Hat Accessory. The bucket hat design is a classic style that’ll add some extra ‘oomph’ to your outfit. As the name suggests, it’s also made from waterproof cotton Gore-Tex materials. Bring on the rain.
The interior of this Nanamica hat adds a bit of extra flair with a plaid/checkered pattern. In addition, it utilizes the brand’s COOLMAX™ cotton fabric. This keeps your head warm while keeping it cool and dry. In other words, you won’t be sweating underneath this hat.
You can get the Gore-Tex Hat Accessory for $140.
Nanamica Water Repellent Tote Bag Review
The last best-selling women’s item in this Nanamica review is the Water Repellent Tote Bag. Of course, it’s made from water-repellent material and durable cotton and nylon. The two-way tote also has handles with two lengths, so you have a few carry options.
This Nanamica bag is based on a US Airforce flyer’s bag, driving the brand’s commitment to function and fashion home. Regarding storage, you can fit a laptop in its large pocket and some little essentials in a smaller patch pocket.
Coming in both beige and navy, the Water Repellent Tote Bag retails for $470.
Nanamica Men’s Review
Now we’re onto the popular men’s category. Like the other hot picks in this Nanamica review, these customer faves are versatile, dignified, and, of course, practical.
Nanamica Kodenshi Wool Watch Cap Review
Your winter wardrobe isn’t complete without a warm hat like Nanamica’s Kodenshi Wool Watch Cap. The knit cap comprises materials like merino wool, polyester, and the brand’s Kodenshi down. The timeless design will be your best cold-weather companion.
Kodenshi is a “high functional down material” that reflects your body’s infrared rays back to you. In simpler terms, this hat will keep you extremely warm during outdoor adventures. It will also help with sweat evaporation, so you won’t be itching to rip it off your head anytime soon.
Unfortunately, the Kodenshi Wool Watch Cap is sold out but regularly retails for about $105.
Nanamica Logo Hooded Pullover Sweat Review
Along with a cozy hat comes a comfy sweater in the Logo Hooded Pullover Sweat. This fleece hoodie was made in the US, featuring a structured and soft feel. It’s also reminiscent of a vintage piece with its faded dye finish.
The Logo Hooded Pullover Sweat will prove to be a cold-weather protector. It’s designed with snap buttons that will keep your neck warm during windy days. Aesthetically, the sweater showcases some rough embroidery that amplifies the vintage vibe.
The Logo Hooded Pullover Sweat will cost you $260.
Nanamica Coolmax St. Jersey Tee Review
The last item in this Nanamica review is the Coolmax St. Jersey Tee. The cotton-blend tee is made from the brand’s COOLMAX® cotton fabric. It’s essentially altered polyester that collects and releases moisture, helping with comfortable and dry wear.
This striped shirt really makes no fuss. It’s a timeless design that can be styled with similarly colored pants or shoes. Plus, with its more relaxed fit, you’ll remain comfortable while receiving compliments left and right. In terms of size, this item ranges from an extra small to extra large.
Coming in three colorways, the Coolmax St. Jersey Tee is available for a cool $110.
Who Is Nanamica For?
Nanamica is a brand for everyone. Their designs aren’t gendered or based on age, so pieces have a minimalist aesthetic that many people can appreciate. But, if you often find yourself outdoors, they have useful and fashionable items that’ll protect you from the elements.
That being said, they can be considered expensive. These higher price tags might deter people who are on a budget.
Nanamica Reviews: What Do Customers Think?
We can’t have a Nanamica review without looking at the customer feedback. So, I scoured the internet for ratings. Unfortunately, there aren’t many testimonials about the brand online. This might be due to how young it is and the lack of proper exposure. But the reviews I did find on Yelp and Reddit rave about Nanamica and their quality gear.
On Reddit, one user reviews one of Nanamica’s varsity-style jackets, stating that, “It’s a pretty heavy jacket […] It’s a bit heavier than your typical non-leather varsity – pretty good for winter use without needing to layer. […] The collar is a different kind of knit. It’s kind of special. That was what initially caught my eye.”
This user continues, stating, “Nanamica makes some pretty great basics. A lot of attention is paid to details. If you’re looking for some staples, check them out.”
So, it looks like the company is making well-constructed basics that also feature some eye-catching details. As I mentioned earlier, there’s also a review on the company’s Yelp page. The average rating is 4/5 stars from 2 customer reviews.
The only written testimonial praises the shop for their men’s options and accessories, “Beautiful shop for men’s styles. […] I also loved their accessories – a few leather goods, jewelry, and some small notebooks. Worth perusing if you’re a stylish guy or are looking for a nice gift for a man in your life.” As the women’s collection is still brand-new, there aren’t many opinions shared on it yet.
Despite the lack of ratings online, Nanamica has definitely reached cult status. Their use of high-tech materials seriously impresses their clientele.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t find many external Nanamica reviews. But, as stated, GQ has featured them on their website, outlining some of the brand’s greatest hits (such as pieces from The North Face Purple Label).
Is Nanamica Worth It?
If you’re looking for some high-quality essential wardrobe pieces, Nanamica is definitely worth checking out. And since they’re not as trend-driven, their items will be a part of your wardrobe for a long time. Classic, simple clothing will never go out of style.
They are definitely on the expensive side. So, definitely be wary of prices if you’re on a bit of a budget. But, if you’re going to be wearing a Nanamica piece for years, it could be a worthy investment.
Nanamica Promotions & Discounts
Nanamica’s online store has a sale section with marked-down jackets, shirts, and more! Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any active promo codes at this time of this Nanamica review.
