About SolaWave

SolaWave Review

Technology is making its way into at-home skincare, and I couldn’t be more excited. I love browsing through new devices like microneedling rollers and James Bond-esque light therapy masks, but I’ll admit, some scare me off.

That’s why I’m pumped about SolaWave, an approachable science-first skincare brand. Their star prodigé is the Skincare Wand, a multifunctional, rechargeable, handheld tech device. With 4 effective treatments for flawless skin, the most universally desired human feature[1], I was shocked to find it was actually affordable.

Featured in Forbes, People, RealSimple, Yahoo, Well + Good, and more, the world is watching as the innovative SolaWave red light therapy wand breaks new ground in the skincare and beauty industry.

Though the brand was only founded in 2020, they’ve attracted a loyal 182k social community across Instagram and Facebook that keep up with their growth.

What’s in store for this SolaWave review? Here, I’ll answer all your questions about this techy brand, including an analysis of the products, how they work, customer reviews, shipping and return policies, and more.

Overview of SolaWave

SolaWave Review

SolaWave is just an infant, really: it hasn’t even passed the 2-year mark. Founders Andrew Silberstein, Eli Bailey, and Fatima Loeliger launched SolaWave in the September of 2020 to bring innovative, future-forward tech into the skincare and beauty world.

Beauty tech is becoming more and more popular on the scene in recent years, and the SolaWave facial wand has already established itself as a big part of that movement in under a year.

The driving mission behind this epic new skincare tool? To not only make science-backed products but also make this technology more accessible. “Inclusive beauty for everyone” is the motto.

As much as I love new beauty tech, SolaWave is right—some of it is just too expensive. And why? Claims of efficacy are great and all, but as someone who’s not well versed in the trend, it’s easier to pass on expensive devices than it is to blow my pay check.

Aside from being accessible, I like that L.A.-based SolaWave is big on giving back: just this June, the brand pulled off an initiative that raised $50,000 for non-profits that help Black LGBTQ+ folks.

But that’s enough chit-chat. Time for me to get to the real goodies! Here are the overall highlights of the brand.

Highlights

  • Offers a tight-knit selection of well-made products, including the wand, serum, and an all-inclusive kit
  • Overwhelmingly positive reviews
  • Free shipping

  • International shipping

In the next phase of this SolaWave review, I will take a look at the products themselves. There really aren’t many—just the SolaWave solar wand, serum, and the package deal of both. Let’s check them out.

SolaWave Review

It’s time I steer this SolaWave review over to the real deal, the products themselves. I’ll give you a good look at each to get you familiarized with what the brand sells. These bestseller products are SolaWave sola skincare encapsulated!

SolaWave Wand Review

The OG, the star of the show, the one and only SolaWave Wand: a tech tool that is multifunctional for your skincare needs. There are a ton of details here, so stay with me. To be specific, it has 4 functions:

  1. Microcurrent
  2. Red light therapy
  3. Therapeutic warmth
  4. Facial massage

Firstly, the SolaWave microcurrent wand function targets your muscles, hitting those deeper layers of skin with low-voltage power (hence the name “microcurrent”) to nurture healthier skin into resisting the signs of aging[2].

Visions of electro bolts zapping my skin come to mind, but I was relieved to learn it’s nothing like that. It’s totally painless.

Second, the SolaWave light therapy wand function uses LED red lights to “rejuvenate” skin and bring more life to it, gradually erasing your fine lines, wrinkles, blemishes, and breakouts.

I thought it sounded kind of funny to shine some red light on my face using a tool that looks like a shaving razor, but there’s actually science to back it up: In a study[3], 75% of people had significant improvements in the appearance of blemishes due to the funny red light method.

Anyway, the SolaWave face wand also has a function for therapeutic warmth, and I read that’s exactly what it sounds like: a warm thing on your face that feels nice.

The actual science is that heat increases blood flow and opens up your pores[4], encouraging your skin to regrow healthier, glowier skin over damaged tissue.

Lastly, the wand can also give you a nice facial massage[5], and who doesn’t want that? It’s actually soothing on your face, not harsh like when your grandma used to squeeze your cheeks a little too enthusiastically. I know I was cute G-ma, but why?!

And while the massage is a good mental de-stress moment, it also does some physical work underneath to promote more radiant, energized, smoother skin.

The wand turns on by touch activation and turns off automatically, too. It has a head that rotates 90 degrees so you can tend to all the nuances and curves and dips of your beautiful, one-of-a-kind face.

The wand is rechargeable with a micro-USB port and comes with a 1-year warranty for repairs and replacements.

Spending $149 might seem like a lot for skincare, but at least it’s a 4-in-1 product, not a one-hit-wonder. Plus, it’s a steal compared to the $500 red light masks on the market.

I love that you can even choose your color: rose gold, ombre, or matte black—so at least it’s stylish, too! If you’re wondering about what the results look like, head to the brand site to see some wondrous SolaWave Before and Afters.

SolaWave Renew Complex Serum Review

Pulling on your skin can actually cause damage, so regardless of whether you’re doing your own facial massage or using the SolaWave, it’s important to use a serum. Plus, the Renew Complex Serum has added benefits that actually improve results with the wand. Stay with me as I break it down:

First things first, the SolaWave Renew Complex Serum is an accompanying formula you can use with your wand.

It’s a “Conductive Serum,” meaning it has an ingredient that works well with the microcurrents to give your face muscles some love. The conductive ingredient in the Renew Complex Serum is none other than aloe vera!

Also made with blue tansy plant and hyaluronic acid[6]—two ingredients I’m buzzed about right now for hydration and calming—this serum is specifically designed to amplify the effects of your SolaWave wand extravaganza.

It can be used on its own to hydrate your skin or as recommended, at the end of your skincare routine, before you go to town with your light-up wand.

This product essentially primes your skin for the vibrations and especially activates the microcurrent function, so it’s a must-have if one of your main skincare goals is decreasing signs of aging.

Purchased on its own, the 30ml Renew Complex Serum is $32.

SolaWave Wand & Renew Complex Kit Review

The SolaWave Wand & Renew Complex Kit is basically just the two products combined. Pretty simple: wand + serum = skincare magic. I won’t go into too much detail here since you’re already familiar with the products.

With the kit, you can use your wand as the sciencey experts at SolaWave recommend: accompanied with the hydrating, priming serum underneath to experience the full benefits of the wand’s technology.

It’s a good deal too at $170. At regular price, if you bought the serum and wand separately, it would cost $10 more, and if you’re buying the wand, you might as well get the serum to go with it for an extra $20.

How Do You Use A SolaWave Wand?

SolaWave Review

It’s on your mind, I know: how do you actually use the darn thing? Here’s three things to keep in mind:

  1. Use it day or night with a serum, moisturizer, or mist underneath—the Renew Complex Serum works best, but others work too!
  2. Choose which positioning you would like with the rotating head: with the head vertical, it’s a straight I-shaped tool, and with the head horizontal, it’s a T-shaped tool resembling a razor.
  3. It activates by touch, so all you have to do is just put it up to your face to get the light and vibrations going.

Then what? Start anywhere and end anywhere in any of these areas:

  • Forehead
  • Under Eyes
  • Cheek
  • Jaw
  • Neck

Just DO NOT use it on these areas:

  • Eyes (underneath the eye is fine)
  • Larynx/Adam’s apple
  • Chest
  • Breasts
  • Groin
  • Over bruises or wounds

I love how simple it is to use. Try this routine for 5 minutes a day a couple of times a week, and as you and your skin become friendly with your wand, you can increase the time up to 30 minutes a day.

To clean it, carefully wipe it with a dry cloth with water or disinfectant. And if you’re wondering, no, it is not waterproof, so it isn’t a very good swimming partner (sorry).

Can I Use SolaWave On My Lips?

SolaWave Review

While snooping around for this SolaWave review, I found that it is safe to use the wand on your lips.

Does SolaWave Help Acne?

SolaWave Review

I’m happy to say that it can! The red light therapy is darn effective at minimizing breakouts and blemishes, and the wand generally helps to smooth out skin and rejuvenate it. If you struggle with acne, I think the wand is worth a shot.

Who Is SolaWave For?

SolaWave Review

While reading through the brand’s FAQ pages for this SolaWave review, I found that the brand makes it pretty clear who the wand is and isn’t for.

To make it simple, this is who the wand is not for. Out of precautions for safety, do not use SolaWave if you are:

  • Under 18
  • Pregnant
  • Diagnosed with cancer
  • Have a pacemaker

Other than those conditions, SolaWave is for everyone, including all skin types.

Comparison: SolaWave vs. StackedSkincare

SolaWave Review

How does SolaWave stack up against a competitor in the skincare tech industry? Say hello to StackedSkincare, a brand that sells similar products to SolaWave, helping regular people treat skin problems with cool techy devices.

To make this comparison simple, I’ll just do lists for the main similarities and differences.

SolaWave and StackedSkincare both have:

  • Tech devices for skincare
  • Microcurrent wand to treat acne/blemishes/aging
  • Both brands back up their claims with science
  • Free shipping and international shipping

… But StackedSkincare is different because:

  • They sell a larger variety of products – including cleansers and peels
  • Offers skincare consultations
  • Wands aren’t as multifunctional as the SolaWave
  • Free shipping only applies to orders over $75

If you want to learn more about StackedSkincare, then check out this Review to get the full scoop.

SolaWave Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

SolaWave Review

This wouldn’t be a true SolaWave review without customer testimonials, so I analyzed the informative words of real buyers. Because brand sites are biased, I also looked at Amazon and Instagram.

Unfortunately, SolaWave isn’t on the popular customer review sites because it’s so young. Understandable. Let’s get to it!

Firstly, I’ve included the ratings for all of the brand’s available products to help you get an overall view of what buyers think:

  • Skin Care Wand with Light Therapy & Serum Kit: 5/5 stars, 304 reviews
  • Advanced Skin Care Wand with Red Light Therapy: 5/5 stars, 555 reviews
  • Renew Complex Serum: 5/5 stars, 202 reviews

Customers described the SolaWave experience as “nice & soothing” while still making a significant change in the health, feel, and look of their skin. One customer said:

I really love the wand – my skin feels hydrated, and I’ve already noticed a significant difference in the wrinkles on my forehead.

Reviews revealed the versatility of the wand and how each person uses it differently: some for the warming effect, some for the massage, others for the microcurrent treatment, etc. Another example is the use of the wand “as a spot treatment for zits and to minimize… brown spots.

Let’s look to Amazon now. Here are how customers rating the brand’s best-sellers on Amazon:

  • SolaWave Facial Wand: 3.9/5 stars from 299 ratings
  • Renew Complex Serum: 4.3/5 stars from 126 ratings
  • Skin Care Wand & Serum Kit: 4/5 stars from 364 ratings

Customers of the Facial Wand said that the wand is “very relaxing while gliding over your face” and is basically “a mini spa treatment at home.” Here’s a testimonial about results:

I have this pesky deep line under my right eye and notice that after using this wand twice a day, every day for the last week has made a difference! That line has softened in appearance and not as noticeable!

And the Renew Complex Serum? Customers backed up the brand’s claims that the serum goes well with the wand and improves the effect. Check this out:

I have noticed such a tremendous difference in my skin. My face is glowing and my dark spots are fading. I was even able to go to the esthetician less for facials because of how well the serum is improving my skin and face.”

Lastly, what are Instagrammers saying about SolaWave? Well, allow me to tell you that the vast majority of comments were positive

People call it “the best” skincare tool they’ve ever tried, say it makes their face “GLOWING” (in all caps, of course), and basically validate all that the brand promises in this innovative beauty tech product.

When there was issues the brand responded to most of these comments encouraging the customer to contact customer service for a repair, replacement, or refund.

In summary, the reviews of SolaWave are super positive. People are loving this wand and some people are loving it even more with their serum to match. The skincare benefits promised were fulfilled according to most customers.

Plus, their kind customer service is usually quick to respond to the rare negative comments about wand malfunctions and could be easily solved with a replacement.

Is SolaWave Worth It?

SolaWave Review

Survey says? Yes! SolaWave is worth it. With overwhelmingly positive reviews and scientific evidence to back up the products’ claims, it’s hard for me to deny that this technology just straight-up works.

It was an archaeological mission for me to find negative reviews because they are so rare, so the brand’s customer service, free shipping, and return policy seem to be working all well and good as promised.

Still, before you purchase, make sure that the wand is safe for your use. See the “Who is SolaWave for?” section up above for more details.

The great news: it’s returnable for up to 30 days with a 1-year warranty in case it breaks or malfunctions. With that promise in your back pocket, I think SolaWave is worth it.
