Overview of Steelcase

Steelcase Review

Steelcase is a US-based company with its HQ located in Grand Rapids, MI. Founded in 1912 by Peter Wege, Walter Idema, and David Hunting, the company got its start in safes and filing cabinets which is also where the name Steelcase came from.

Fast forward over a hundred years and the company is now led by president and CEO Sara Armbruster, who has expressed a dedication to health in terms of the planet, people, and culture. The company has committed to reducing emissions by 2030 by going carbon neutral, working with suppliers to reduce greenhouse gases.

At his point, we can see what kind of company we are dealing with, so let’s adjust our Steelcase review to the correct posture and look at the highlights of this company:

  • Dozens of color choices
  • The brand displays a commitment to fair labor and the environment

Steelcase Review

As we get older, we quickly learn that correct posture can truly last you a lifetime. And since Steelcase is by far a high-quality purveyor of office furniture, you know it can make a big difference. Let’s see what some of their products have to offer you.

Steelcase Chair Review

The company has done the research, identifying several ways you can sit, but has also considered the various sitting patterns people have. Through a study conducted with 2,000 people across six countries around the world and found that there are nine different sitting patterns that break the mold of what conventional sitting looks like.

With this study in mind, they have made several different office chairs that accommodate people with different weights, body sizes, ages, and gender. Steelcase has definitely made a chair perfect for your sitting habits, so let’s see if we can find a chair for you, as we kick off our Steelcase review.

Steelcase Gesture Review

The Steelcase Gesture office chair is a fully adjustable sitting experience. The company has gone all out to produce a chair that could work for everyone. They even made learning how to adjust the chair easy to learn, so you can get back to work quickly and not spend too much time fiddling around.

Let’s talk about the Gesture and see how it can be moved around to fit your body perfectly. When we say fitted, we really mean it! The points of articulation on this chair can be tuned to your sitting posture and be changed on the fly with the controls on the right side of the chair.

No matter what, a truly customizable office chair from top to bottom can help you focus on work rather than any aches that are cropping up in your body. If one sitting position becomes irritating, switch it up to relieve any tension in that part of the body.

With the Gesture you can also choose several add-on features to further address your sitting needs:

  • Stool: +$173
  • Upholstered back: +$20
  • Leather: +$551
  • Extra lumbar support: +$24
  • Wheels for hardwood: +$19

There is a fair deal of different fabric colors to choose from, allowing you to coordinate your office decor just the way you like it.

For this supreme Steelcase Gesture sitting experience, a standard model costs $1159.

Steelcase Leap Review

If you have back problems from hunching over your keyboard all day, then you need to check out the Steelcase Leap. This Steelcase review found this type of chair focuses on superior back support and since everyone has different issues, this chair comes with a wide range of adjustable parts to give your back the support it deserves.

While you work and sit for long periods of time, the strain on your back gets more and more intense as the day progresses. Use the Leap’s expertly engineered back support to prevent you from getting too stiff.

Much like the Gesture, nearly all parts of the Leap can be moved around to suit your needs. And since the chair’s main focus is in back and spine care, those of you with back troubles can take a seat, knowing you are getting maximum support.

Let’s check out the numerous ways you can customize your chair’s features:

  • Stool: +$165
  • Leather: +$578
  • Extra lumbar support: +$41
  • Headrest: +$166
  • Four-way adjustable arms: +$65, or go armless and save $138
  • Wheels for hardwood: +$18

Again you have a great range of fabric colors to choose from, so you can really let your personality show.

The Steelcase Leap base model retails for $979.

Steelcase Series 1 Review

The Steelcase Series 1 is slightly reduced in adjustable features to lower its basic model price but still offers an ergonomic-minded sitting experience. This chair is an entry-level model good for a startup company or if you are on a lower budget for your home office, but still want a high-quality chair.

Sometimes a lot of features and moving parts can be overwhelming for some people, so a chair with reduced options might just be better for your needs. Even with this in mind, this chair will still be better than the average chair offered by any competitor.

If you are looking to upgrade the Series 1’s stock model you can add on these options:

  • Stool: +$114
  • Leather: +$118
  • Headrest: +$72
  • Four-way adjustable arms: +$6, or go armless and save $34
  • Wheels for hardwood floors: +$16

It wouldn’t be a Steelcase chair if it didn’t have an eye for aesthetics. Your chair can come in a variety of colors, so why not spice up your workspace to fit the vibe?

Once you have picked out the color combination that fits your interior design, you can sit back and get some much-needed work done in the office. At the same time, you can have the peace of mind that the Series 1 you are sitting in, is made with your health in mind, and it doesn’t break the bank!

Pick up the Series 1 base model for $439

Steelcase Series 2 Review

You know a chair is popular when the company brings out a version two. And the Steelcase Series 2 is definitely the improved version.

The main difference between the Series 1 and the Series 2 is the Air Back with the extra 3D micro-knit add-on option. This sort of back is a denser weave of fibers, giving it more spring and flexibility than the typical mesh.

With the Series 2, you are getting additional spine support which could make all the difference in your body’s health. There are also the same add-on features to customize your chair according to your needs:

  • Stool: +$122
  • 3D micro-knit back: +$16
  • Leather: +$121
  • Headrest: +$78
  • Four-way adjustable arms: +$63, or go armless and save $83
  • Wheels for hardwood: +$18

For example, adding on the stool would be an excellent choice if you like the feeling of sitting on a higher chair with your knees elevated. This is also a great feature if you have a standing desk in a common work area. Another thing that sets it apart from its predecessor is all the extra colors you can use to customize your chair.

Get all the support your body needs with this chair. The Series 2 base model retails for $489.

Steelcase Jaku Chair Review

Sometimes, the simplest chair can be the most comfortable. That’s the case with the Jaku Chair by AMQ, a company Steelcase acquired in 2017.

The moveable parts allow you to best align it to your posture’s needs. And the curved seat design can handle any body type, giving you the freedom to shift around in your chair during meetings without throwing your spine out of whack.

What sets this chair apart from other office chairs in this Steelcase review is the removable and swappable seat cover. This way, if you are bored with the chair’s seat, you can throw on a new color to spice it up for the season or replace a stain or tear on it. There are eight colors series to choose from with the Jaku and each color series has several options:

  • Buzz
  • Era
  • Connect
  • Brisa
  • Radiance

They basically have every color of the rainbow to choose from, but you will need to contact a local retailer to see what options are available as this chair is not sold directly to customers.

The price for the Steelcase Jaku Chair really depends on how you customize it, but the base model starts at $644.

Steelcase Daily Task Chair Review

If your office is all about mid-century modern design, then you will need to add the Steelcase Daily Task Chair to your decor. This Blu Dot item is definitely the most unique chair in our Steelcase review with its eye-catching design.

This is not the most adjustable office chair, but it still has some ergonomic features going for it. The first major difference is the solid steel frame and base, so if plastic is not your thing, then this steel chair might be what you are looking for.

The Daily Task Chair comes in one color: Gingrich charcoal. The steel is coated in the same color as the chair’s upholstery, giving it a much more subdued design.

This Steelcase review found it would look best in a minimalist’s home or office space that is going for a sleek look.

To purchase the Daily Task Chair you can check Bludot.com or contact a local retailer. On Blu Dot, the chair retails for $599 though your local retailer may have a different price.

Steelcase Review

Steelcase is for those who work long hours at a desk and require an expertly designed chair that will keep their body in the correct position. When you leave the office, you should not be hurting which is why you need a Steelcase chair. It could also work for streamers or professional gamers, especially during those long sessions.

At the end of the day, Steelcase office chairs are for anyone who sits in front of a screen for a long time. If you have the means to buy a premium office chair, then you may as well get the best.

Steelcase Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Steelcase Review

Since our Steelcase review focused exclusively on their chairs, we will double down by looking at customer reviews and their rating of the brand’s office chairs only.

We first head over to Judge.me where we see what a happy customer had to say about his Steelcase Leap, “It was shipped unbelievably fast and mostly assembled. I just had to attach the base to the chair which took 10 seconds. It has been a while and the chair is still super comfortable!”

Another satisfied reviewer from Google reviews had this to say about his Steelcase Gesture, “It is beyond comfortable. I have tested many of the top rated chairs from office chairs to gaming chairs and the Steelcase Gesture chair is not only one of the top ergonomic chairs, but it is one of the most comfortable chairs on the market.”

Looking at Amazon, we can see similar great ratings and this is how someone feels about their Steelcase Series 2, “This is a great chair. The seat is comfortable and the back is supportive. It can go quite low to the ground so my feet can actually sit on the floor and the armrests can move inward so my arms can rest on them.”

A look at how well-rated Steelcase office chairs are:

  • Steelcase Gesture 4.5/5 stars out of 937 reviews
  • Steelcase Series 1 4.5/5 stars out of 1,010 reviews
  • Steelcase Leap 4.4/5 stars out of 570 reviews
  • Steelcase Series 2 4.1/5 stars out of 87 reviews

All in all, we believe that the reviews speak for themselves! Steelcase win points in comfort, durability, support, and design. The numerous customization opti0ns don’t hurt either.

Where to Buy Steelcase

Steelcase Review

The majority of Steelcase products — in this case, their chairs — can be purchased off the website directly. The company also sells at select retailers.

This Steelcase review would like to note that while Amazon itself is an authorized retailer for the brand, many of the sellers on the marketplace are not. It’s best to check where the item is being shipped from and who is selling it.
