Overview Of Kyte

Kyte Review

Renting cars has been a standard practice for many years. But the rental car industry was ready for a change. Meet Kyte, a company that entered the market in 2018 with the aim of making renting cars even easier in the modern world. It accomplished this by delivering rental cars directly to your door.

Ludwig Schoenack, Nikolaus Volk, and Francesco Wiedemann were three German friends who set out to revolutionize the car rental industry. Meeting in San Francisco, the trio used their experience from Uber, BMW, and McKinsey to start their own business.

The result was Kyte—a new alternative to traditional car renting services with the advantage of car-sharing. Kyte utilizes its app and website to connect customers with cars available for rent. And these cars will be delivered to them on demand.

Not only does this process make it easier for customers, but it also removes the need for Kyte to manage a large fleet of cars themselves. Instead, Kyte relies on partners in the rental industry to manage fleets and drivers to deliver cars to its customers.

Since its inception, Kyte has made a big impact on the car rental industry. It’s raised millions of dollars in funding and has even helped navigate the recent car supply chain issues that began during COVID.

What else does the company have to offer? Check out the highlights next.

Kyte Car Rental Review

Kyte Review

Now for the main section of my Kyte review: the car rental service. Here, I’ll walk you through the main aspects of the renting process and you’ll learn everything you need to know before using this brand’s service.

Booking

The first thing you’ll need to do when using Kyte’s car rental service is book your car. The process is as easy as can be. Once you book your rental, a Kyte Surfer will bring you your car. All you need to do is take the keys and they’ll verify your license. Then you’re all set!

And if you need to edit your trip, you’ll be able to do so before your rental arrives.

There are a couple of requirements you’ll need to meet before booking:

  1. Meet the minimum age requirement for your state to rent a car
  2. Have a valid driver’s license
  3. Have a valid credit or debit card
  4. Be located in one of Kyte’s operating cities

Deposit

Kyte accepts all major debit and credit cards for payment. The standard deposit the company charges is $300 if you use a credit card and $500 if you’re using a debit card. You’ll be refunded the deposit within two days after your trip ends.

Insurance

There are two main options for insurance that Kyte offers:

  • Comprehensive Collision Coverage: Covers up to $30,000 in damages.
  • State Minimum Liability Coverage: This varies depending on the state you’re located in, but usually includes coverage for bodily injury and property damage.

You can see the full list of insurance coverage details here.

Cancellation

If you need to cancel your rental car, you can get a full refund if you cancel 48 hours before it arrives. If you cancel within 48 hours, you may still be eligible for a refund in Kyte credit.

However, if you wait to cancel until two hours before you’re delivery, you may be subject to a $25 fee.

Drivers Under Age 25

Under 25? Not a problem! That is if you live in New York or Massachusetts. Other locations require you to be at least 25 years old to rent a car, so you’ll be out of luck in those areas. You can see a full list of age requirements here.

How Does Kyte Work?

Kyte Review

If you live in any of the listed cities, Kyte works very easily. All you have to do is use the app or website to choose your desired dates, complete the verification process, set your location drop-off, and pay the deposit. From there, you’ll receive your car right to your door! It’s that easy.

Kyte charges per 24-hour period and once your rental time is done, you’ll arrange for pickup from the company. Plus, don’t worry about refueling, they’ll do it for you!

Who Is Kyte For?

Kyte Review

Kyte is for anyone in need of renting a car. Whether you’re looking to go on an adventure in a new city, or are in a pinch thanks to some car troubles, Kyte offers you an easy way to rent a car without any issues.

Kyte Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Kyte Review

So far, Kyte seems like a great, pain-free way to start renting cars. But does it live up to its hype in the real world? To find out, I looked at Kyte reviews from a few different websites to see what customers thought about the service.

First, I turned to Yelp where the brand averaged a solid 4/5 stars from 155 reviews. Here, customers applauded Kyte for its communication and also the cleanliness of its rental cars. Here’s what one Kyte reviewer wrote:

“I would highly recommend this rental car service! From their customer service, using their app is easy, to the car being delivered to and from my daughter’s apartment. Kyte just knocks renting a car out of the ballpark!  I’ll definitely use Kyte for my next car rental. Thank you, Kyte.”

Moving on to Clark.com, the reviewer there appreciated the brand’s convenience and after comparing Kyte to other brands, had this to say:

“Kyte may just be the most convenient rental experience yet with its drop-off and pickup service. Kyte sources vehicles from various professional fleet suppliers and the vehicles are stored and maintained by Kyte. Kyte would be best used if you want to skip the airport auto rental experience or if you don’t need a car immediately upon landing.”

Finally, I turned to another in-depth Kyte review from The Points Guy. Here’s how they concluded their review:

“What Kyte lacks in the points and miles partners of traditional rental car companies, the company certainly makes up for in price and convenience alone. You may feel some of the inevitable user experience quirks that often result from using a startup, but those are sure to dissipate over time.”

As with any service, especially newer ones like Kyte, you aren’t guaranteed a completely smooth experience. However, from what I read online, it’s clear that Kyte makes up for some minor hiccups with its convenience, customer service, and selection of quality rental cars.

Kyte vs AutoSlash

Kyte Review

While Kyte has a unique approach to renting cars, it isn’t the only company that provides a modern way to arrange rental cars. AutoSlash is another leading brand in the car rental industry, but it differs from Kyte in a big way.

AutoSlash shows you a bunch of different rental options—including quotes for rental cars from a variety of websites so you can compare prices. It will even provide coupons occasionally to help you save more.

Plus, it doesn’t actually arrange rental cars as Kyte does. While you can book rentals through AutoSlash, it’ll direct you to a rental service from which you can rent a car with the rate and deal you choose. Kyte does all of this in the background.

So if you want that straight-to-door convenience, Kyte is for you. However, if you want to compare prices and save some money, or are looking for rentals in more locations than Kyte operates in, check out AutoSlash.

Is Kyte Legit?

Kyte Review

Despite being a newer company, Kyte remains transparent and open about its service and its company’s mission. And while writing this review, I saw nothing concerning about this brand.

Is Kyte Worth It?
