About Snake River Farms

Snake River Farms Review

Wagyu beef has become the gold standard of beef, in terms of its price and quality. The fattier, subtly sweeter, and more luscious meat is preferred by Japanese citizens compared to regular imported beef according to this study.

Stateside, more people are turning into Wagyu beef converts. True Japanese Wagyu is hard to find in the U.S. and it carries an exorbitant price.

That’s where Snake River Farms comes in. They produce American Wagyu beef, which may seem like an oxymoron, but hear me out—their beef is a cross-breed production between high-quality Japanese Wagyu and top-of-the-line traditional cattle breeds.

The result is a beef that would make the average carnivore dieter explode with serotonin. It possesses the deep flavor of American beef with the melt-in-your-mouth texture and richness of Japanese Wagyu.

How is that possible? For one, the beef comes out with much higher grades than standard USDA beef. Before it even reaches the customer’s door, it’s already setting a higher standard for what beef can be in the United States. Plus, Snake River Farms slow feeds their cattle on average three times longer than traditional U.S. commodity beef animals.

This slow feeding process results in marbling that’s to die for. And as everyone knows, the marbling is the secret to Wagyu beef. Sadly, most people have never tasted beef with this level of marbling unless they’ve traveled to Japan.

That is, unless they’ve been devout Snake River Farms fans for years. The brand’s parent company Agri Beef pioneered American Wagyu beef and were responsible for importing the first Wagyu bull in 1988. Agri Beef has the most robust American Wagyu beef program on the planet, so it’s no surprise they’re chef favorites.

The company has been operating since 1968 out of Boise, Idaho, where they can involve themselves in every step of beef production. This includes genetics, raising, and feeding the cattle. Not only does this process protect the health and preserve the dignity of the cattle, but it ensures Agri Beef’s beef is consistently among the best in the country.

Snake River Farms inherited those practices from Agri Beef. But is that enough for you to know whether their beef is right for you? Keep reading my Snake River Farms review to find out as I’ll look at the brand’s best-selling products, customer reception, and more. But first, let’s talk about their highlights.

Snake River Farms Wagyu Smoked Beef Sausage Review

As the byproduct of a collaboration between Snake River Farms and the oldest BBQ establishment in Texas–Southside Market–the Wagyu Smoked Beef Sausage is a once-in-a-lifetime product. It combines the smokey flavor of Texas BBQ with the delicate marbling inherent to Wagyu beef.

These sausages are freshly made and garnished with cracked black pepper. Snake River Farms encases them in a natural pork shell before cooking them. They’ll arrive at your door frozen, so you just have to heat them up and you’ll have yourself a wonderful cross-cultural sausage.

Each of the Wagyu Smoked Beef Sausages weighs 2 ounces. They’re sold in packs of four for $18.

Customers say: “smokey, snappy, and surprisingly packs more heat than the cheddar jalapeño.

Snake River Farms Wagyu Tri-Tip Review

Snake River Farms Review 1

The Snake River Farms Wagyu Tri-Tip is an iconic element of Central California’s culinary tradition. This sirloin’s distinctive triangular shape makes it a grill master’s favorite, particularly when cooked over hardwood for that perfect smoky flavor.

Grill the tri-tip to medium-rare perfection, slicing it against the grain for tender, flavorful bites. Serve it alongside garlic mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables for a delicious meal.

At 2.5 lbs, the Wagyu Tri-Tip costs $79.

Customers say: “Phenomenal in a taco. I ordered 4 of these for tri-tip tacos. I marinated them overnight and served them by dicing 3 of them and slicing one (served like a steak). Not a single complaint from anyone in the family.”

Snake River Farms Smoked Spare Ribs Review

Moving on from burgers and sausages, the Snake River Farms Smoked Spare Ribs are an example of the brand’s wide product range. While they specialize in beef, their pork is just as attractive. These ribs are made alongside Southside Market & Barbeque. They’re doused with an authentic Texas spice blend that’s deeply savory and a tad bit sweet.

Using Kurobota pork, these ribs arrive at your door frozen. Once thawed, you can reheat them and dive into a satisfying meal. They’re pre-smoked, so all the flavor you need is sewn right into them. The average weight per package of Snake River Farms Smoked Spare Ribs is a pound and a half and costs $45.

Customers say: “These had great flavor, were tender (be careful not to overheat them!), and super easy and quick to prepare.

Snake River Farms Wagyu Smoked Beef Short Ribs Review

The Snake River Farms Wagyu Smoked Beef Short Ribs are another product of the Snake River Farms and Southside Market & Barbeque partnership. They’re delivered precooked and frozen, ready to be rejuvenated in no time in your oven.

Seasoned with only salt and pepper, the Snake River Farms Wagyu Smoked Beef Short Ribs are slowly smoked until their internal marbling melts away into a delicious, unctuous texture.

Great for a dinner party where you want to dazzle your meat-lovin’ loved ones, 5.25 pounds costs $259.

Customers say: “Words can not describe how great the Smoked Beef Short Rib was. The flavor, texture, and taste were spot on. Definitely a new “go-to” for me. The SRF team was also great to deal with. Thank you to everyone involved.”

Snake River Farms Wagyu Smoked Brisket Review

This thick slab of meat is sure to impress your meatiest buddies. It’s smoked on low heat for up to 16 hours and minimally seasoned with salt and pepper. This draws out the intrinsic Wagyu flavor without diluting it. The result is a brisket that’s soft to the touch, melts in your mouth, and tastes just like a ranch.

The Snake River Farms Wagyu Smoked Brisket weighs 8 pounds and costs $299.

Customers say: “The pre-cooked brisket was nothing short of spectacular! The process was easy; thaw, wrap, and reheat in my oven for about three hours. I pulled the brisket at 165 degrees as suggested. It was perfect! The flat was juicy, and the point was better than anything I had been able to do on my own! The taste was great, and the smoke ring was deep and consistent across the entire brisket.”

Snake River Farms Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Snake River Farms Review

To gather what customers thought of Snake River Farms, I looked into buyer reviews on a few websites with scores and thoughts that were up-to-date as of August 2023. Here are the scores for some of their best-selling products on the Snake River Farms website.

  • Snake River Farms Wagyu Pioneer Sliders: 4.5/5 stars based on more than 50 pieces of customer feedback
  • Snake River Farms Wagyu Smoked Beef Sausage: 4.4/5 stars based on more than 90 pieces of customer feedback
  • Snake River Farms Smoked Spare Ribs: 4/5 stars based on more than 20 pieces of customer feedback

Unsurprisingly, the company’s meat was deemed to be great by most customers. Buyers said the beef was juicy and marbled, exactly as it was advertised. One Redditor wrote, “I’ve ordered a few ribeye and tenderloin subprimals from them in the past (the “American Kobe” Wagyu – but not the highest gold grade). simply exceptional beef and marbling.

Other customers said the steaks were expensive but worth the money because they were so much better than what you could get at a regular butcher. One customer described it as such, “They are the best commercial producer of Beef that I have ever used. Their briskets are several steps above any other I have found. Steaks are great but insanely expensive if you have to mail order in singles.

More than anything else, Snake River Farms reviews focused on how convenient the meats were. Since they were shipped precooked, customers could throw together meals quickly without sacrificing flavor or quality. No more dull, gray meat or flavorless steaks; Snake River Farms delivered convenient and delicious meats that fit into anyone’s schedule.

These are great. I have ordered them a few times already and I will always keep a couple of pounds of these in my freezer. Thin tender slices that cook up in a flash. I just put my own seasoning on them, cut up some veggies and voila, you have a 10-minute meal,” wrote one buyer.

Some of the complaints lobbied at Snake River Farms took aim at the supposedly small portions of meat customers were receiving. To be honest, these comments said that they received (for example) a 7.5-pound brisket instead of an 8-pound brisket. Yes, that’s annoying, but it’s not as large of a discrepancy as it seems.

Other criticisms were directed towards the brand’s customer service with reports claiming that they did not offer any sort of recompensation if steaks were delivered warm. However, these complaints were largely drawn out by the majority of Snake River Farms reviews that complimented the brand’s customer service.
