WPS Writer is a word-processing app that functions like most others of its kind. If you’ve used Google Docs, Microsoft Word, or any similar apps, then you should feel right at home. In fact, WPS Writer is compatible with apps like Google Docs, so you can transfer all your files over without losing anything. It works with major file types like .doc, .docx, .docm, and .dotm, and can convert files to PDFs.
Next up is WPS Spreadsheet. As its name suggests, it’s a chart-creating tool that helps users visualize and interpret data, balance budgets, or track their work hours. It recognizes .xls, .xlsx, .xlsm, .xlt, and .csv files as well as documents from Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, and more.
Then there’s WPS Presentation, which is WPS’ answer to Powerpoint. Through it, you can embed graphs, pictures, videos, and transitions in your presentation. It can read .ppt, .pptx, and .pptm file types, but where it shines is its compression capabilities. WPS Presentation can compress bulky presentations into smaller zip files for easy conversion.

Unfortunately, there are currently no promotions for WPS Office, however the service is now available for free version for mobile phones, while for Windows users there is a 7-day free trial version.

I know I’ve harped on this fact enough throughout this WPS Office review, but the service is totally free. You don’t have to pay a single cent to access any of the features I’ve spoken about thus far (besides the WPS Office For Business plan). However, you can add plenty more if you open your wallet.
The WPS Office Premium plan costs $24 for six months or $36 annually (with subscriptions renewed automatically) and has a host of benefits. For starters, it provides up to 20gb of cloud storage, which far outweighs what you’d receive on the free WPS Office plan. You can also edit PDFs more freely, including editing the text itself, removing watermarks, and inserting images.
This paid plan also removes all ads, allows you to convert all file types into PDFs, grants you the ability to merge files, and more.
Finally, the WPS Office for Business plan has a free 15-day trial. From there, you’re looking at $6 per month per user or $60 per year per user.
Who Is WPS Office For?
The basic version of WPS Office is ideal for students or people who work from home (like yours truly) who want fast service without a ton of baggage. However, this version probably isn’t suitable for professionals who need as much cloud storage as possible. For those, I’d recommend the WPS Office Premium plan.

I’ll look at what users liked and didn’t like about the service in this portion of my WPS Office review. The easiest way to assess their general feelings is by looking at aggregate review scores, so I pulled a handful of them from various consumer websites. Here’s what I found.

Microsoft Office is undoubtedly WPS Office’s largest competitor, so it’s worth looking into what separates the products from each other. Pricing is the first thing that comes to mind. Microsoft Office starts at $7 per month, whereas WPS Office has a free version and a subscription that costs $36 annually.
The thing is, you’ll receive 1TB of storage with the basic Microsoft Office plan. WPS Office only offers 20GB of cloud storage. Conversely, WPS Office can run on multiple devices, while the Microsoft Office license is only for one device.
Looking at those comparisons, it appears that Microsoft Office is better if you operate large-scale business from a single device, whereas WPS Office is more affordable and accessible for everyday tasks.
Is WPS Office Legit?
The only worrying aspect of WPS Office was the prevalence of ads in the free version. However, users didn’t describe them as intrusive, simply annoying. I’m not against ads either, especially considering that WPS Office is free, I just wanted to include that here because I know some readers hate ads with a passion.
