Overview of Crock Pot

Crock Pot Review

The Crock Pot was most likely your mother’s and grandmother’s go-to kitchen appliance in the early days. While it’s considered a staple in modern cooking, it originated during the 19th century.

The idea of slow roasting stemmed from Vilna in Lithuania, where Jewish neighbors would prepare vats of stewed meats and vegetables on Fridays. Using the town’s bakeries, ingredients would simmer overnight to encourage rich flavors.

Partially inspired by Jewish tradition, inventor Irving Nachumsohn decided to combine his engineering degree with food to produce modernized cooking solutions.

The slow cooker was one of his most revolutionary prototypes, but it didn’t gain popularity until the 1970s. Deviating from its initial branding as the ‘Naxon Beanery,’ the Crock Pot was officially reborn under Kansas City’s Rival Manufacturing company.

Today, the Crock Pot continues to be a staple in Western cooking. Known for its convenience and practicality, it’s considered a mainstay in the American kitchen. Let’s take a look at some highlights.

Highlights

  • Offers a wide selection of slow cookers and pressure cookers to choose from
  • Cuts meal prep in half
  • Designed for home cooks and professional chefs alike
  • Provides recipes on the brand’s website
  • Some products are covered by a warranty
  • Available at several reputable retailers

Crock Pot Slow Cooker Review

It’s time to own your weekly meals. Crock Pot offers a curated selection of models to choose from, each with different sizes and features. To help simplify the shopping process, I’ve highlighted a few of the brand’s top sellers in my Crock Pot review for you to consider.

Crock Pot 4 Quart Classic Slow Cooker Review

The main caveat of slow cooking is the amount of second-guessing it entails. Chicken and pork should never be overdone. On the other hand, raw cuts of meat are also not recommended.

If you’re not blessed with professional expertise, the 4 Quart Classic Slow Cooker is designed as a beginner-friendly solution. This bad boy is equipped to handle several dishes, including beef stew, chili, and even peach cobbler for those that have a sweet tooth.

This Crock Pot is built with three different settings: high, low, and warm. Constructed with oven-safe removable stoneware, users have the option of crisping up certain meals with guaranteed safety.

Meant to feed a family of four, the 4 Quart Classic Slow Cooker retails for $20 at Walmart.

Crock Pot Design Series 3 Quart Manual Slow Cooker Review

In this day and age, aesthetics are just as important as functionality. Kitchen appliances are no exception, as some homeowners find value in beautifully designed equipment.

Thankfully, the Design Series 3 Quart Manual Slow Cooker features a woodgrain finish, which helps infuse a level of warmth and hospitality into your kitchen space.

This slow cooker isn’t just meant to sit pretty. This device can cook meals for up to three people. From oven-baked ziti to gooey mac and cheese, homeowners can quickly chef up breakfast, lunch, and dinner with zero hassle. Price-wise, this kitchen mainstay costs $20 at Target.

Crock Pot 7 Quart Cook and Carry Slow Cooker Review

Prepping for a potluck? If so, the 7 Quart Cook and Carry Slow Cooker is designed to feed large families.

It’s designed with a travel-proof locking lid, which helps seal meals during transportation. If anything, it’s meant as a portable kitchen tool suited for camping and picnics. Set with an auto-warm feature and an oven-safe stoneware bowl, this device can help keep food hot and crispy as you cook up a storm.

Other neat features include a 16-oz little dipper warmer, which is meant to hold sauces and dips. It’s also programmed with a one-touch control for added convenience.

If you’re looking to speed up meal prep, the 7 Quart Cook and Carry Slow Cooker sells for $85 at Kohls.

Crock Pot Pressure Cooker Review

Pressed for time? The Crock Pot pressure cooker is designed to handle thick cuts of meat and vegetables in just a couple of hours.  For those in need of recommendations, I’ll spotlight three notable contenders that are worth a second glance.

Crock Pot Express 6 Quart Oval Max Pressure Cooker Review

The Express 6 Quart Oval Max Pressure Cooker is meant for those who love the taste of slow roast dishes but hate the effort required to do so.

Built with a larger surface area, this device can accommodate an entire rack of ribs. It can even sear and saute certain dishes, which is often needed to achieve a specific texture or taste. Constructed with an Easy-Fit Lid, there’s no need to worry about frustrating secure locks here.

Arguably, the best part of this pressure cooker is its built-in cleaning feature. Users can simply use the Quick Clean button to freshen up the pot, which cuts the need for excess soap and water.

Enhanced with 16 cooking settings, this kitchen device retails for $120 on BestBuy.

Crock Pot Express 6 Quart Pressure Cooker Review

Beef bourguignon requires a whopping 7 hours of cook time. So if you’re not blessed with infinite patience, the Express 6 Quart Pressure Cooker only needs one hour to ensure juicy cuts of meat and succulent pearl onions.

Built with 13 one-touch programs, this nifty device can saute, simmer, and steam several recipes. If you’re concerned about safety, it’s set with an easy-release dial and a progress bar as safety measures.

If you’re away from the kitchen, this pressure cooker features a handy Delay Start button, which lets users program their desired cook time. Equipped with a non-stick pot to ensure easy cleanup, this kitchen device sells for $130 at Walmart.

Crock Pot Express 10- Quart Crock Multi Cooker Review

If you’re getting serious in the kitchen, the Express 10-Quart Crock Multi Cooker is definitely made for you. Made to accommodate two or three families, this hefty kitchen device can chef-up slow roast meals without much hassle.

It comes with several convenient features, including a sterilize button and an easy-release steam dial to ensure safety.

Since this Crock Pot is considered one of the fancier models offered by the brand, the Express 10-Quart Crock Multi Cooker comes with extra utensils. This includes an optional glass lid, a serving spoon, a steaming rack, sealing gaskets, and a recipe book.

Price-wise, this bad-boy retails for $150 at BestBuy.

The steam release button is easy to use without the steam spewing all over. This is so versatile in that you can cook just about anything in it. You don’t have to even defrost meat or chicken,” said one reviewer about the Express 6 Quart Oval Max Pressure Cooker

Since Crock Pots are sold at a few different stores, it only makes sense for there to be reviews here too. The consensus is relatively the same, as most customers agree that the brand’s line of slow cookers proved to be a valuable asset in cooking. Here’s what I found on Walmart and Amazon for the Crock Pot 7-Quart Manual Slow Cooker:

One Amazon customer shared: “Really love this crock pot. Perfect size for a good-sized roast. I like that there is a warmer temperature as well. Both roasts have turned out perfectly. Definitely recommend.”

If you need in-depth specifics on what makes the Crock Pot so great, some magazines, such as Good Housekeeping, published an informational review about the brand’s products. According to the author, the Express 6-Quart Easy Release Multi-Cooker offered home cooks a convenient way to make complex dishes.

They wrote: “Crockpot’s 6-quart multi-cooker is a master at slow cooking… if you don’t have time to add ingredients in the morning but still want an effortless, no-stress meal, you can make chili, soup, or stew when you get home using the pressure cook setting instead.”

The Crock Pot is definitely a revolutionary kitchen appliance, given its level of convenience and effectiveness. While writing my Crock Pot review, I did find a few negatives associated with functionality and material quality. I’ll discuss them in the next segment.

Is Crock Pot Legit?

Crock Pot Review

It’s not uncommon for customers to experience some manufacturing defects. Some buyers reported that their device broke after a few uses.

Others stated that it felt cheap in construction. In worst cases, users noted that the appliance stopped working altogether. Thankfully, most of the complaints made for Crock Pots pale in comparison to the large number of positive reviews I found online.

Is Crock Pot Worth It?

Crock Pot Review

Whether it’s dessert or dinner, the Crock Pot can cook up a mean meal without the need for culinary expertise. It can handle complex dishes, as users are saved from sauteeing or searing, as the machine does all the work for them.
