If you’re into basics, quality, and locally made items, you may have come to the right place. In this Los Angeles Apparel review, we’ll fill you in on details about the brand and its bestsellers, provide customer feedback, information on promotions, and more to help you assess it for yourself and shop with confidence.

Overview of Los Angeles Apparel

Los Angeles Apparel Review

Founded in 2016, you can consider Los Angeles Apparel the second child of American Apparel founder, Dov Chaney.

Offering USA-made classics with uniform-like quality, the rebrand of the ever-loved basics shop follows the same theme and value system. These values include paying workers fair wages, generating jobs for Americans, locally sourcing material, or using recycled yarn, as well as aiming to be as sustainable as possible.

A truly Americans-for-America brand, Los Angeles Apparel started as a wholesale company but has now expanded its online offering to include single purchase pieces. Plus, it opened up a flagship location in LA.

Now that you’ve got a better idea of where the brand came from and what it’s all about, this Los Angeles Apparel review will shimmy over to its pros and cons.

Pros

  • Extensive collection of clothing for men, women, and kids
  • Thousands of positive customer testimonials about quality and durability

Looking like it just stepped off the set of Clueless, the Los Angeles Apparel Plaid Tennis Skirt has totally sweet detailing among its 14 colors and patterns.

Los Angeles Apparel Tennis Skirt Review

There’s something so appealing about a tennis skirt. Maybe it’s the way it playfully swishes, the flattering pleats, or perhaps it’s because when we think of it, graceful tennis stars come to mind.

Fitted at your natural waist, the Los Angeles Apparel Tennis Skirt is made from a soft polyester fabric that aids in flirty movement but is heavy enough to handle a sudden breeze. Cute detailing like a side button and zip closure adds a quality look to this skirt. Pick from 13 solid shades, or stick with white for an authentic look.

Los Angeles Apparel Heavy Jersey Garment Dye Short Shorts Review

Like the ones you wore in gym class days, the Los Angeles Apparel Heavy Jersey Garment Dye Short Shorts have a sturdy, comfortable feel. But probably unlike those shorts (depending on your school) these are a teeny bit shorter and come in 15 different solid colors.

Part of the brand’s garment dye line, the shorts are shrink-free, made with 100% USA-grown cotton, and are custom dyed for distinct colors. They have a high waist and an elastic waistband to not only keep them in place but for a flattering accent when you tuck in one of the tiny Los Angeles t-shirts.

Ah, the Los Angeles Apparel Disco Pant. The leggings every girl and her mother had in 2010. You don’t see them as often these days, but the appeal of the shiny, smooth fabric hasn’t disappeared.

Casual enough to pair with a cropped tee, these pants can be dressed up for flirty occasions, paired with a textured tube top for a fun contrast. Finish the look with a sleek, long ponytail, body glitter, and a little rouge.

Guaranteed to be shrink-free, The Disco Pant is $85.

Who Is Los Angeles Apparel For?

Los Angeles Apparel Review

Los Angeles Apparel is geared towards those in their late teens and early 20s. It has a carefree, American style, showcasing completely basic essentials, quality materials, and classic cuts with a touch of modernity.

You’ll find a heap of dance gear (like a Los Angeles unitard, leotard, etc.), pleated skirts, basic tees, and a mountain of leggings in its collection.

The brand caters to both men, women, and kids. Plus, it even has a Los Angeles Apparel wholesale department for bulk orders—whether that’s for cheerleading teams, dance squads, or other brands looking to stock their quality items in their stores.

Comparison: Los Angeles Apparel vs. American Apparel

Los Angeles Apparel Review

Classic American quality. It’s a coveted style that reflects the freedom-loving capital of the world’s heart. Perhaps one of the first brands to do basics and do them well, American Apparel, at its height, was an incredibly successful store with 281 locations across North America.

Interestingly enough, Los Angeles Apparel and American Apparel were founded by the same guy, so the likeness between them is, of course, very apparent. So much so, you may even say they’re the same brand.

Compare the two websites side by side and they have an incredibly similar feel. Look at each one’s collection, and again… very alike. Both are full of bodysuits, classic items like sweats, basic tees, a ton of pleats, and disco wear.

To help flush out the differences between them, let’s do a quick side-by-side comparison of a similar item, the Plaid Tennis Skirt.

American Apparel Plaid Tennis Skirt:

  • 2 colors
  • 2XS-XL
  • 100% Polyester
  • Made in the USA
  • Mid-thigh grazing
  • Button & Zip side closure
  • Buy on Amazon for $35

Los Angeles Apparel Plaid Tennis Skirt:

  • 14 colors
  • XS-2XL
  • 100% Polyester
  • Made in the USA
  • Mid-thigh grazing
  • Button & Zip side closure
  • Buy on the brand’s website for $58

We’ll be honest here and say these two skirts are most likely the same. American Apparel is selling strictly through Amazon since it closed its stores across the USA and is most likely selling old stock since the prices are so low—but, that’s just a guess.

The truth is, Los Angeles Apparel is American Apparel’s rebranded baby sister. It embodies the same ethics, quality, and its clothing has the same fit. The new and improved brand may have a few different details, like expanded sizing, and a bigger collection, but you’ll find the same types of items at each one.

Los Angeles Apparel Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Los Angeles Apparel Review

Los Angeles Apparel puts a strong emphasis on the quality of its items. Most are said to be made with professional uniform materials, meaning they’re durable, easy to clean, and long-lasting. Of course, without a t-shirt or pair of socks in hand, we’re going to need a little outside help to figure out if they hold up to their claims.

In this section of our Los Angeles Apparel review, we’ll fill you in on customer feedback gathered from sources far and wide across the web. But let’s start a little closer to home, with the brand’s website.

Below you’ll see a little list with a few bestsellers and their ratings.

  • 3-Pack Cotton Masks: an average of 4.9/5 stars from 6,726 reviews
  • Jelly Flats: an average of 4.9/5 stars from 50 reviews
  • Heavy Jersey Garment Dye Short Shorts: an average of 4.9/5 stars from 209 reviews
  • Cropped Fleece Zip Up Hoodies: an average of 4.9/5 stars from 89 reviews
  • Tennis Skirt: an average of 4.8/5 stars from 181 reviews

You might have noticed that they all have relatively the same score, although some have way more ratings than others. Though the 3-Pack Cotton Masks have the largest pool of comments to pull from, we chose to zoom in on the Tennis Skirt because it’s a great example of the kind of quality that’s typical for the brand.

And speaking of quality, one Los Angeles Apparel review revealed, “Quality is still professional uniform quality in that it’s thick and pleated well but still has good movement but doesn’t blow all the way up a la Marilyn Monroe when I’m walking.” This comment gives great detailing about the fabric, showing it’s durable but still sassy.

Many shoppers said the skirt is the perfect fit, but one found that it was a bit short despite her 5’2” frame. The comment read:

I found that the small in this skirt either doesn’t cover my butt or I have to pull it insanely high on my waist to get the button to close which still leaves my butt bare.Choosing a size up will fix these issues, which she did, and was super happy with the outcome.

To find out more about the quality and fit of the brand’s clothing, we headed over to ClothedUp for a Los Angeles Apparel review of the Cotton Fleece Half-Zip Pullover and the Cotton Fleece High-Waist Sweatpants.

The reviewer gave the set the following scores:

  • Sizing 7/10
  • Quality 7/10

She said that the top is true to size whereas the sweatpants were a bit too big. After wearing the set for the past month, she revealed that “the pullover crop top has been fantastic quality and still looks brand new.” With multiple washes, it’s good to know it holds up well.

But although she says that the sweatpants are extremely “cozy and comfortable,” they “started pilling between the legs.” This is typical for most sweatpants, and especially if the fabric rubs together. This is an easy fix, just run a razor overtop or a strip of Velcro.

Since we think we’ve got a good idea about the brand’s quality and fit, we headed to the Better Business Bureau to check in on customer service. Landing on Los Angeles Apparel’s profile, we found a C- score, but just 10 complaints over the last three years. That’s a very low amount, but the score has to do with how many issues the brand didn’t respond to—8.

The main complaints were about delivery issues and problems with the return process. Pretty typical stuff for online brands, and since the number of complaints is so low, no red flags were raised.

From our search, it looks like the brand’s apparel is of very high quality. Customers love the fit and feel of the fabrics and we didn’t find any alarming common issues outside of the norm.

Is Los Angeles Apparel Worth It?

Los Angeles Apparel Review

When a company commits to ethical and sustainable practices, it’s truly something to be admired. Los Angeles Apparel is made within the USA, by workers paid well above minimum wage.

The clothing is excellently made and lasts for years. The prices are fair too, and there’s nothing about this brand that’s discouraging, aside from some negative press about its founder.

If you’re looking for an all-American brand that stands for quality and authenticity, you’ve found the right one.

FAQ

Los Angeles Apparel Review

Where is Los Angeles Apparel made?

Los Angeles Apparel is all made in the USA by workers paid a fair wage. That’s one of the things that makes this company so cool—the way they treat their workers. The brand’s starting wage in its factories is $20/hr, while experts can make up to $35/hr.

Its yarn is sourced domestically too. About 50% of what fabric the brand uses, while some are even recycled.

Does Los Angeles Apparel fit true to size?

According to the reviews we’ve come across, yes. But a few say certain items can run a little small and others a little bit. Some shoppers suggest sizing up in items like skirts and down in things like sweatpants. If you’re unsure, always refer to the size chart.

What is Los Angeles Apparel’s Shipping Policy?

Los Angeles Apparel may be an LA-based brand, but it ships all over the world. There’s a ton of shipping options outlined on its website, but to avoid bombarding you with a lengthy list, we’ll just show you what its US options are.

  • Standard 2-7 business days $7 or free on orders over $75
  • 2-Day 2 business days $12
  • Priority 1 business days $30
  • PostMates 2 hours $16-$20 (only locations within 9 miles of their factory)

Once your order ships, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a tracking link. Click the link to check out where your package is on its journey to you.

If you need more information about the brand’s international options, head to the Shipping page.

What is Los Angeles Apparel’s Return Policy?

Ordering clothing online can be tricky, and while Los Angeles Apparel fits true to size, you’re totally allowed to change your mind on any item once you get it in person.

With that in mind, the brand has a 30-day Return Policy in place that states it accepts returns as long as they meet a few conditions:

  1. Items must be unworn, unwashed, and in their original condition
  2. You cannot return swimwear, underwear, bras, hair ties, beanies, and bodysuits

If you find you’d like to make a return, head to the Return Portal, but keep in mind you’ll be responsible for all return shipping costs.
