About Ogee

Ogee Review

Ogee is a clean, organic, cruelty-free cosmetics and skincare line that is committed to sustainability, ethical manufacturing, and fair business practices.

It uses jojoba oil as its signature ingredient in order to restore skin’s youth and beauty via a natural, non-synthetic method. All of its products are certified organic by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF).

After being dazzled by all the seals of certification on the brand’s website (vegan, gluten-free, GMO-free, plant-powered, you name it), our Ogee review checked out the brand’s press clippings, which are nearly as impressive. Ogee has been featured in numerous media outlets, notably Vanity Fair, InStyle, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Shape, Glamour, and more.

All that media attention has evidently paid off, as Ogee currently counts an impressive 59K followers on Instagram. But beyond the brand’s pure-as-the-driven-snow pedigree, do its products actually work? My Ogee review will give you the answers you need. Let’s get down to it.

Overview of Ogee

Ogee Review

Ogee” is a term for objects that have a serpentine or S-like shape. To Mark Rice and brothers Alex and Abbott Stark, who appropriated the name for the brand they launched in late 2016, this shape represents natural youthfulness and radiance, which made it the perfect moniker for their all-natural line of luxury skincare products.

A beauty-industry veteran, Abbott became frustrated by the difficulty of finding 100% organic skincare items. When he met Rice, who came from the world of high-end fashion, the two hit upon the idea of filling that gap in the market by creating a clean skincare line with all the allure of luxury branding.

The secret sauce of Ogee skincare is jojoba oil, which, despite its name, is actually a liquid wax. Jojoba’s composition is chemically similar to sebum, the natural oil produced by humans that helps to protect, moisturize, and nourish the skin. This makes jojoba effective for all skin types, and also amplifies the natural balancing action of skin cells.

Ogee is headquartered in Burlington, Vermont (fun fact: home of Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream), and sources its jojoba from sustainable farms in Arizona’s Sonoran Desert. The brand holds all its global suppliers and partners to strict standards of ethical manufacturing, and has committed to using all-recycled packaging for its products.

That’s the big picture—now it’s time for this Ogee review to start getting down to details. Let’s kick things off with the highlights of this brand.

  • Luxury cosmetics and skincare products that are all NSF-certified organic, gluten-free, GMO-free, vegan, and cruelty-free

Ogee Review

Clean beauty is the name of the game these days, but does this brand live up to its claim that it goes “beyond clean beauty” to deliver the highest-quality cosmetics and skincare available?

In this Ogee review, I will get to the bottom of it by investigating some of the brand’s top-selling products, and then seeing what real live buyers have to say about them. Onward!

Ogee Review

Ogee’s lineup of skincare and cosmetics is small but mighty, with each product carefully formulated with clean ingredients for maximum payoff. Below, my Ogee review will spotlight some of the brand’s most notable offerings.

Ogee Sculpted Lip Oil Review

The colorless Sculpted Lip Oil uses jojoba oil to nourish and moisturize your kisser and peppermint oil to plump and stimulate blood flow. This certified-organic, cruelty-free, gluten-free, GMO-free, all-natural product can be used during the day as either a balm or a primer for lipstick, and also during the night for some extra care.

Pop off the lid of this baby and twist the gold mechanism at the bottom to expose all the good stuff. This Ogee lip oil can be yours for $22.

Ogee Tinted Sculpted Lip Oil Review

Add some color to your lip care with the Ogee Tinted Sculpted Lip Oil. Like its invisible sister above, this has all the nourishing and protective benefits of jojoba oil and peppermint oil, along with the refreshing hydration of hyaluronic acid and the added “wow” factor you get from natural plumping agents.

But of course, the real story here is the color: you’ve got 14 shades to choose from, ranging from soft white-pink to eye-catching scarlet. The Tinted Sculpted Lip Oil retails for $26.

Ogee Sculpted Face Stick Review

Is your powder blush just not cutting it anymore? Switch it up for the Sculpted Face Stick. This multi-purpose tool can be used to accentuate your jawline, add color to your cheeks, create a complementary glow on your neck or décolletage. It can even serve as an Ogee lipstick in a pinch!

The Sculpted Face Stick is available in five buildable shades, ranging from translucent, glittering white to rich cocoa. It’s yours for $42.

Ogee Seeds of Youth Serum Review

Who wouldn’t like to turn the clock back a bit? The Seeds of Youth Serum pairs Ogee’s O.G. ingredient jojoba oil with edelweiss (that’s right, the flower), a supercharged antioxidant that plumps out wrinkles and fine lines and makes your skin smooth, firm, and more youthful-looking.

Use the Ogee serum of youth twice a day, and within three weeks you’ll be seeing the age-defying effects. And need I mention that it’s organic, cruelty-free, vegan, and all that other good stuff? The Seeds of Youth Serum sells for an admittedly rather hefty $98.

Ogee Liquid Gold Cleansing Oil Review

It’s truly amazing how much crud can seep into our pores on a daily basis. Formulated with the purest pressing of jojoba oil possible, Ogee’s Liquid Gold Cleansing Oil flushes out dirt, makeup residue, and impurities to leave your skin looking soft, refreshed, and positively glowing.

Unlike other cleansers, this all-natural oil won’t scour away the beneficial stuff you want to keep locked in: frankincense works to soothe, while antioxidizing olive oil, sunflower oil, and elderberry keeps your skin looking healthy and refreshed. Use this morning and night for optimal effects. The Liquid Gold Cleansing Oil is $48.

How Do You Use Ogee?

Ogee Review

You use it on your skin, dummy! But seriously, Ogee recommends that you use its skincare products twice daily (first in the morning, then before you go to bed), and apply them in the following order: Gentle Glow Cleansing Cloths, Liquid Gold Cleansing Oil, Seeds of Youth Serum, Jojoba Glow Face Oil, and Jojoba Hydration Day Cream

The brand also suggests that you try your best to avoid using other, synthetic skincare treatments in addition to its organic products. This isn’t just a matter of casting shade on the competition, either: synthetic skincare can make your skin more sensitive, which can then trigger adverse reactions to the natural ingredients in Ogee products.

Is Ogee Vegan?

Ogee Review

While all Ogee products are organically derived and cruelty-free, some of them contain beeswax, which means that they are not vegan-friendly.

Helpfully, the brand calls out those non-vegan items so that you don’t have to scour the ingredients lists for everything: the Sculpted Lip Oils, Velvet Botanical Moisturizer, and Sculpted Face Stick

Who Is Ogee For?

Ogee Review

Thanks to their essential ingredient, jojoba oil, Ogee products are suitable for people of every age and every skin type: oily, dry, sensitive, or combination. The brand also states that pregnant women can use these products as well, though they should seek the advice of a healthcare professional before starting a new skincare regimen.

While writing this Ogee review, I’ve formed the opinion that the same principle applies to everyone. If you have a history of allergies or adverse reactions to natural substances, organic skincare treatments could potentially be more detrimental than beneficial. Check with your doctor, folks!

Comparison: Ogee vs. Aesop

Ogee Review

Founded by Dennis Paphitis in Melbourne, Australia in 1987, Aesop is a skincare brand that uses both natural, plant-based ingredients and laboratory-made materials in its products. The first and most obvious distinction between Aesop and our spotlighted brand is size—both of the brands’ respective product lines, and their global reach.

On the former point, where Ogee offers a total of seven skincare products, Aesop has more than a hundred. Additionally, Aesop carries extensive lines of hair care products, fragrances, items for the home, and more. By contrast, Ogee is an intentionally small-scale company that positions itself as more of a boutique brand.

As to reach, Aesop is a truly worldwide operation, with regional shipping centers for the Americas, Asia, Europe, Oceania, and the Middle East. The brand also has hundreds of brick-and-mortar retail locations worldwide, in addition to making its products available through major retailers like Amazon and Nordstrom.

While select Ogee products are also on Amazon, the brand’s own international shipping is rather limited: the list of countries it can ship to is constantly changing due to import restrictions and the like. All of which is to say, Aesop clearly has our spotlighted brand beat when it comes to availability, anyway.

Given that the prices of similar products from these two brands are roughly the same, if one were to choose between Aesop and Ogee it would obviously all come down to how much weight a customer places on having certified organic ingredients in their skincare products. If the answer is “a lot,” then Ogee is clearly worth the effort.

Ogee Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Ogee Review

My Ogee review wouldn’t be complete without hearing from the actual buyers of these products. Given the limited availability of these items, customer reviews online were a little sparse, but I’ve done some digging for you and will serve up what I found below.

Let’s start with the brand website, which has a healthy total of over 4,700 reviews for Ogee’s products. There are 2,640 reviews for the Tinted Sculpted Lip Oil alone, which garners an excellent average rating of 4.5/5 stars. Buyers loved both the look and the feel of this flagship product, as per this comment from one happy customer:

Awesome lip oil. No sticky, tacky feel. Melts on your lips. I love the clear! Also got dusty rose & it glides on my lips. Color is beautiful. Great products. Thank You!”

The lip oil is also part of the four-piece Dew Kit, which was another big hit with customers, pulling in a full 5/5 stars from 292 reviews. Buyers loved this full facial care regimen, and how it makes taking proper care of your skin easy. One customer enthused:

Love the kit! […] The smells are great. The face oil is extra hydrating for my dry Montana climate. This kit is perfect for anyone who wants to feel their best without being proficient at make up ( I look like a raccoon the two times a year I attempt liquid eyeliner)!”

Over at Amazon, the Jojoba Glow Face Oil scores 4.3/5 stars based on 161 reviews. One satisfied customer wrote a veritable novel about how this product helped them improve their “extremely oily, sensitive and acne-prone” skin:

Ogee’s formulation has skin calming ingredients that really love and care for sensitive skin. BUY THIS. It is worth it….I can’t praise this little magic bottle of elixir enough.”

Let’s wrap things up with another take on the Tinted Sculpted Lip Oil, which receives 4.8/5 stars on Influenster from an admittedly (very) small pool of 7 reviews. One very detailed comment from a professional makeup artist evaluated both the quality of this Ogee lip balm and its gifting potential:

I purchased the 8 piece gift box…. The coverage is a sheer to medium and will always show some of the natural lip through…. The formula is beautiful and application simple thanks to the chubby lip pencil style. The gift set [was] packaged beautifully and would be a classic gift for any ‘green’ makeup lover.”

Reviews on all of these sites typically deliver the same message: the products are fantastic quality, even though the prices are a bit steep. Based on the overwhelmingly positive customer feedback for these products, this is clearly one of those instances where higher prices really do denote higher quality.

Is Ogee Worth It?

Ogee Review

Based on what I turned up in the course of researching my Ogee review, I would say that these products do indeed seem to deliver on the high quality that they promise, making them a worthwhile splurge.

Sure, the prices are high, but it ain’t cheap to make genuinely organic products, and Ogee really goes the extra mile to create both eco- and human-friendly skincare.
