About PowerA

PowerA Review

If you’re looking for affordable gaming gear that won’t give you arthritis then PowerA might be the brand for you. They’re official partners with some of the biggest companies in gaming, have more skin in the game than other brands, and have over 52k followers on Instagram.

In this PowerA review,  I’ll look at the company’s history, their products, their customer reception, and tell you where you can find some of their goods.

Overview of PowerA

PowerA Review

PowerA has been in the game longer than most gamers these days have been alive. They’re a Washington-based brand whose headquarters is a stone’s throw away from those of Nintendo, Xbox, and Amazon.

I should probably mention that PowerA is quite close with the giants of the gaming industry. They’ve held licenses with Nintendo, Playstation, and Xbox for over a decade.

Although PowerA has only been around since 2009, their parent company BDA LLC has been in the gaming sphere since the market’s heyday.

Their lineage dates back to 1984 and that long history has allowed them to learn what’s most important to gamers in terms of controls, comfort, and accessibility.

As such, PowerA develops controllers and accessories that serve to help gamers perform their very best even in the tensest situations. To show that, I’m going to tell you some of their best features in the highlights section of my PowerA review.

Highlights

  • Creates controllers and accessories
  • Some controllers are officially licensed by Xbox and Nintendo
  • Longstanding history and reputation within the gaming community
  • Some products are covered by a two-year warranty
  • Products are widely available

PowerA produces a bevy of gaming components and accessories. I’ll be focusing on their controllers in my PowerA review, but you can also find chargers, headsets, protective cases, and other tertiary goods on their website.

PowerA Xbox One Controller Review

In order to showcase PowerA’s creative approach to controllers, I’m going to focus on one of the most charming items in their Xbox One catalog.

PowerA Enhanced Wired Controller for Xbox Series X|S – Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands Review

This PowerA Xbox One controller has earned Microsoft’s seal of approval. The PowerA Enhanced Wired Controller for Xbox Series X|S – Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is officially recognized by Xbox, designating it as a reliable third-party controller.

The controller’s visual design takes inspiration from the Borderlands spin-off title Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. However, this controller is so much more than a sight for sore eyes.

It features two rumble motors, a phenomenal ergonomic design, and two “advanced gaming buttons” that you can allocate to perform certain inputs.

As such, you can use the PowerA Enhanced Wired Controller for Xbox Series X|S – Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands to game on Xbox Series X|S or Windows platforms for only $40.

PowerA Switch Controller Review

The Nintendo Switch is arguably the most popular gaming console since the Nintendo Wii, so it only makes sense for me to tell you about some PowerA Switch Controllers.

PowerA Enhanced Wireless Controller for Nintendo Switch – Hades Review

While this unit may not be a PowerA enhanced wired controller, meaning you’ll have to recharge it from time to time, you’ll likely want to grab one as it’s going to become a collector’s item in no time.

Only 3,000 copies of the PowerA Enhanced Wireless Controller for Nintendo Switch – Hades were ever produced and licensed by Nintendo, so buying one of these means you can earn a piece of history.

Here are some of the pros of this controller:

  • 30-hour battery life
  • Two customizable “advanced function” buttons
  • Astounding artwork
  • Compatible with Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite products

So if you want to own some memorabilia from Supergiant Games’ beloved classic then you can grab the PowerA Enhanced Wireless Controller for Nintendo Switch – Hades for $55.

PowerA Fusion Pro 2 Review

I’m going to return to the Xbox Series X|S controllers for the next two entries of my PowerA review. The PowerA Fusion Pro 2 lives up to the “pro” designation in its name as this controller is made for gamers of the highest caliber

The PowerA Fusion Pro 2 has four auxiliary buttons on its backside that you can assign to mimic another button, allowing you to increase your actions per minute without breaking your hands.

This controller is also great for competitive gamers because it has three trigger-lock positions. That means you can adjust how deeply you have to press the triggers in order for them to register your input.

This controller also comes with faceplates, thumbpads, and analog sticks that you can swap between to create a controller that feels like it was molded for your hands.

The PowerA Fusion Pro 2 costs $90.

PowerA Spectra Review

The final item I’m going to cover in this PowerA review comes with all the perks you’d associated with PowerA – mappable buttons, top-tier tactile feedback, rumble motors – but separates itself from the pack with its display.

The PowerA Spectra Infinity Enhanced Wired Controller for Xbox Series X|S has three different areas that illuminate with LED lights. You can customize the hue, brightness, and vibrancy of each area so that your controller accurately represents your personality.

If you want a controller that can light up your life then consider picking up the PowerA Spectra Infinity Enhanced Wired Controller for Xbox Series X|S for $45.

PowerA Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

PowerA Review

I’ve looked at PowerA reviews from across the internet to find out what customers think about the company. To give you a clear picture, I’ve put a few scores from different sites regarding the PowerA Enhanced Wired Controller for Xbox One (potentially their most popular item) together into this list:

  • Walmart: 4.⅘ stars based on more than 20 ratings
  • BestBuy: 4.3/5 stars based on more than 400 ratings
  • Amazon: 4.1/5 stars based on more than 2,200 ratings

Most PowerA review writers complemented the controllers for being a good budget alternative to first-party controllers. They praised how comfortable the controllers were and how responsive they were during gameplay. One Reddit user wrote this about their PowerA product:

The buttons are a bit more tactile, a bit clicks, but it looks cool and you cannot beat the price. I always recommend them to anyone looking for a second controller.

Other PowerA reviews said that the brand’s innovations – like the extra buttons on the back of the controllers – were useful in-game but didn’t always last as long as the other buttons. Regardless, they often said that they couldn’t argue with the low price points.

A customer on Walmart’s website said that their PowerA controller was, “My favorite controller to use by far.” They listed some of the above-mentioned reasons for taking such a liking to the device.

One final PowerA review I wanted to include emphasized how the controller functioned perfectly at doing its job. “I have had a PowerA Fusion wired controller for about 6 months and it is brilliant. Very well made, matches my Elite controller. Just works. Would buy another in a heartbeat.

The negative PowerA reviews said that the controllers don’t always stack up to the official releases or that they degrade over time. However, when you consider that PowerA’s products are much less expensive than first-party gear then this complaint seems less important.

Is PowerA Legit?

PowerA Review

I couldn’t find any PowerA reviews from customers that decried the company’s shipping policies or said they have ignorant customer service. With all of that in mind, it’s safe to say that this brand is legit!

Is PowerA Worth It?

PowerA Review

PowerA is worth it if you don’t want to spend an outrageous sum of money on controllers. Their devices seem to hold up well and their fair price seems justified.
