About Spongelle

Spongelle Review

Have you ever wondered what would happen if you made a sponge out of soap? No? Oh. Well, meet Spongelle. They’re a beauty brand that does things a bit differently.

Their most bangin’ product is definitely the Spongelle BodyWash Infused Buffers, which is, as prophesied, a sponge made out of soap. But they also sell body wash sans sponge, lotion, back buffers, hand creams and sanitizers, and foot buffers.

Spongelle isn’t slacking in the clout department, either, as they have been positively featured in the likes of Forbes, New York Post, Buzzfeed, E! News, Byrdie, and more.

In the social sphere, they have 62.5k good-smelling followers on Instagram and another 52k keeping up with them on Facebook.

This Spongelle review will show you the ins and outs as well as the hidden details not displayed right up on the site, giving you the scoop on if the brand is worth it based on their values, bestsellers, customer reviews, shipping and returns, and other spicy FAQs.

Overview of Spongelle

Spongelle Review

Spongelle was born in 2003, founded by Elaine Binder and her husband, Eric. Passionate about creating a convenient “all-in-one” bath product, the Body Wash Infused Buffer stepped onto the scene to give consumers a simpler way to lather up and feel good.

Part of the company mission is to remain ethical for the customer and the world. They do this by using natural ingredients, manufacturing everything in the US, and being transparent with consumers about how many washes or uses out of a product that you’ll get.

Headquartered in Inglewood, California, Spongelle is killing it as a high-end brand that sells a variety of yummily scented bath and body care.

So, that’s the backstory, but what about the whole story? This Spongelle review has compiled some highlights to consider:

Highlights

  • Offers a variety of vegan, cruelty-free, natural body and bath products, including sponges, buffers, hand creams, and so much more
  • Majority of customer reviews rave about product quality and yummy scents

Spongelle Review

And would you believe it, it’s now time for our Spongelle review of sponges, those famous buffers, and hand care.

Spongelle Sponges Review

These sponges give you an exfoliating clean using yuzu extract, edelweiss extract, and vetiver root extract. Mix that clean with a fragrance that makes your heart sing and you’ve got a luxurious, spa-like experience right in your very own bathroom.

The fragrances we’ve highlighted below are bestsellers and the sponges get you at least 14 washes.

Spongelle Heart on a String Sponge Review

The Heart on a String Sponge is an adorably heart-shaped sponge with a fragrant rose scent. The rose is uplifted by orange and tangerine notes and warmed up with the scents of vanilla and musk.

The Spongelle Heart on a String buffer is $24.

Spongelle French Lavender Wild Flower Bath Sponge Review

This calming French Lavender Wild Flower Bath Sponge is warm and floral. With notes of rich amber and citrusy hesperides, this one will have you feeling both zen and squeaky clean at $18.

Spongelle Buffers Review

The clean power of Spongelle buffers comes from a natural, plant-based blend of yuzu extract, edelweiss extract, and vetiver root extract. In a rainbow of different scents, your perfect match is waiting to be found by you. These typically get you 14+ washes.

PS: if you’re thinking of a different kind of buffer, check out a Spongelle Pedi Buffer.

Spongelle Beach Grass Buffer Review

Spongelle Beach Grass Buffer smells like what you’d expect it to: beachy, grassy, and perhaps woody. It smells tropical and warm with a hint of jasmine in there.

We can’t confirm the price of this lovely scented Spongelle body buffer because it’s not currently available on the brand site, but most regular-size buffers are $21-$26.

Spongelle Bulgarian Rose Buffer Review

Spongelle Bulgarian Rose Buffer is complex: yes, it smells like roses, but it also has a hint of orange in there, and warm, cozy scents like vanilla and cinnamon.

This floral Spongelle buffer is limited edition and $21.

Spongelle Cherry Tonka Musk Buffer Review

Despite the opener of its name, Cherry Tonka Musk Buffer is heavier on the musk and lighter on the cherry. In fact, there are no notes of cherry.

What you will find is the aroma of amberwood, tobacco flower, wild oats, tonka beans, and pepper. Spongelle Cherry Tonka Musk smells spicy, musky, and woodsy. This buffer is $26.

Spongelle Freesia Pear Vegan-Friendly Boxed Flower Buffer Review

Spongelle Freesia Pear Vegan-Friendly Boxed Flower Buffer gives you the olfactory experience of a garden on a perfectly sunny (but not too sunny) day.

With citrusy notes of lemon and grapefruit, this pear perfume also has a floral side with peony and freesia. This buffer is priced at $21.

Spongelle Hand Cream Review

Spongelle isn’t a brand that solely belongs in the bathtub. Their products also belong on your hands, to moisturize as one does.

Spongelle Hand Cream uses natural ingredients like shea butter and argan oil to keep you nice and soft all year round.

Spongelle French Lavender Hand Cream Review

French Lavender Hand Cream will smell floral but warm at the same time.

With woodsy amber and lavender, you have in the palm of your hands a calming, blossoming aroma for $24.

Spongelle Review

You betcha. Spongelle does not use parabens.

Are Spongelles Biodegradable?

Spongelle Review

Not all of Spongelle’s products are biodegradable. You have to know which to shop, like the Spongology collection, which uses biodegradable sponges made of soy.

Who Is Spongelle For?

Spongelle Review

Spongelle is for everyone. The brand features collections for men, women, and kiddos. Using gentle ingredients and offering a variety of fragrances and feels opens the audience up to pretty much anyone. If you like smelling good and feeling soft and clean, then Spongelle is for you.

It’s especially for you if you shop vegan, cruelty-free, natural ingredients only, or eco-friendly because the brand makes efforts to meet these ethical demands wherever possible.

Comparison: Spongelle vs. Molton Brown

Spongelle Review

So far, what we’ve covered in this Spongelle review has been all nice and cool, but it’s time to switch it up and look at things from a different perspective: how does it compare to a competitor, Molton Brown?

The brands have a few things in common, while they do other things totally differently.

Spongelle and Molton Brown have these 2 commonalities:

  1. Both brands carry bath and body care products
  2. High-end prices

But then, Molton Brown is quite different:

  1. The brand also sells fragrances (without the sponge part)
  2. Wider variety at MB: hair care, candles, bathroom accessories, body oils
  3. No sponge-soap combos
  4. Slightly more expensive
  5. Free shipping on every order

Molton Brown is for those with fancier tastes perhaps, because of the whole more expensive thing. Mostly, it’s for people who want a wider range of bath/body/self-care in general and/or fragrances.

Spongelle Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Spongelle Review

What kind of a Spongelle review would this be if we didn’t also include customer reviews? Let’s first analyze the brand site reviews, and then we’ll move on to external sources of the cold, hard truth: Amazon, Reddit, and Influenster.

On the brand site, as you might expect, reviews are overwhelmingly yes, yes, yes!, and 3 thumbs up. Just take a glance at the star ratings for some of the bestsellers we highlighted:

  • Bulgarian Rose Buffer – 4.9/5 stars from 86 reviews
  • Cherry Tonka Musk Buffer – 5/5 stars from 95 reviews
  • Freesia Pear Vegan-Friendly Boxed Flower Buffer – 4.9/5 stars from 168 reviews
  • French Lavender Wild Flower Bath Sponge – 4.9/5 stars from 508 reviews
  • Heart on a String Sponge – 4.9/5 stars from 37 reviews

Whew. Yeah. People are totally digging all the products. One Spongelle review of the Cherry Tonka Musk Buffer reads:

I have never been disappointed by ANY of the Spongelle scents. I love how they lather up in the shower, last longer than expected and never have to worry about bacteria building up in the sponge. I’m obsessed and buy them all the time. Love having them on hand to give as gifts.

Switching over to Amazon, 514 customers of the French Lavender Wild Flower Bath Sponge rated it an average of 4.6/5 stars. Those who loved it were “in love” with it because it was lather-heavy, “great for travel,” and successfully “moisturizing and exfoliating at the same time.”

One Spongelle review of the Freesia Pear Vegan-Friendly Boxed Flower Buffer complimented:

OH, I just LOVE LOVE this sponge! It not only makes my skin beautifully smooth, it SMELLS soooo Good! I would recommend that if you have never tried it, get it. It’s worth the money! I don’t rinse it out, I just hang it in the shower and use it every morning. LOVE IT!

Still, some customers felt that the buffers and sponges weren’t worth your shower time of the day because they’re scented too heavily, harsh on your skin (especially sensitive skin), or simply “too much money for the short time it lasts.

But anyway, moving onto reviews from social platforms: on Reddit, there were many enthusiastic fans of the brand, and we do mean fans. The 79 comments on a post requesting fav Spongelle scents are all the proof you need, but here are some highlights below.

Firstly, the buffers are described as “magic,” “heaven,” and a “really convenient” miracle worker, making customers “so smooth,” fresh, and deliciously aromatic. One customer shared their love specifically for the Spongology collection:

I love the spongology line! my favorite is the coconut buffer, It smells so good and is perfect for everyday exfoliating. And it doesn’t gave any chemical fragrances and is biodegradable which is a huge plus for me!”

But a Spongelle review of the For Men buffers wasn’t as soft and smooth:

“I bought my husband the men’s one. He says they work really good to clean you (he’s a welder and is black from head to toe everyday after work) but they’re are not for sensitive skin. They are hard not soft, he’s complaining now about his body feeling sticking and itchy.

The few other negative comments were that the scents are “overwhelming perfumy fragrance” and that the products are “harsh” and don’t work well on sensitive skin:

I have sensitive skin. The soap was nice on some parts but other parts broke out. And the scrubby hurt the first few times and used it. I feel like it’s a great product and smells really nice and lasts and people freaking love them. But it’s not a good product for my skin.

Lastly, let’s take a look at Influenster reviews from beauty lovers who know their stuff. The brand is “#4 in Bath Sponges & Loofahs” on this review platform, so customers are rating the products highly.

Rated 4.7/5 stars from 390 customers, the Honey Blossom Body Wash Infused Buffer had most people pleased, many people overjoyed, and some less than savory.

The positive reviews said it “smells great, exfoliate and cleans at the same time” and it lasts a generous amount of time. Those who didn’t love it said the scent was too strong and the buffer was “super rough on the skin” and left skin feeling dry.

Those positives and negatives sum up well what we found in the rest of the reviews. And overall, most customers are indeed thrilled with these powerful sponges and back up all the promises of what they can do for your life.

Is Spongelle Worth It?

Spongelle Review

Our Spongelle review verdict: worth it. Very positive customer reviews, with people raving about the innovative, stupidly convenient Spongelle sponges + natural, vegan ingredients that are gentler for you and the planet = a brand worth checking out at the checkout.

If you have very sensitive skin, be cautious. There have been testimonials from customers who say the products are too harsh for sensitive peeps. Also, if you’re not a fan of strong fragrance, this probably isn’t the brand for you either.

But all in all, go wild, spend some cash, find your favorite scent of the diversity offered—you’ve earned it.
