About Porte + Hall

Porte + Hall Review

The Declaration of Independence famously states that all men are created equal, but many people don’t know the full quote. It goes, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, but the same cannot be said for doormats.” Don’t ask me how the founding fathers knew that brands like Porte+Hall stood head and shoulders above the rest hundreds of years before the company formed, I’m not a historian.

In any case, Porte + Hall hold themselves to a lofty standard. Their doormats have to be stain-resistant, weather-proof, colorful, easy to maintain and clean, and the textures have to endure over time. More important than all that, though, is that their mats have to make you feel welcome once you step inside.

Though their official name is Porte+Hall, that’s a mess of a name for Google search results, and I wouldn’t want to prevent anybody trying to find out about them from learning the necessary information. So, throughout the majority of my Porte + Hall review, I’ll be referring to them as such.

They’re a relatively young brand, but their founder Stafford Meyer has more than two decades of experience as an interior designer, so she recognizes how small touches like a high-quality doormat can improve how good one feels at home.

In my Porte + Hall review, you’ll learn all about the materials the company uses, their best-selling products, their prices, what customers think about them, and more. First, let’s discuss their highlights.

5 Best-Selling Porte + Hall Products

In reality, Porte + Hall only sells four main items. They are as follows:

  1. Indoor doormats
  2. Outdoor doormats
  3. Runners
  4. Area mats

However, if you look on their website, you’ll find there’s more to buy than just those four. That’s because, as you’ll see in this section of my Porte+Hall review, the brand rotates between different styles and textures for each product. This widens their catalog considerably without filling it with unnecessary fluff.

That being said, here are the six best-selling items in Porte + Hall’s inventory.

Porte + Hall Product Tigers Eye (Natural) Innerweave Doormat Review

For a versatile floor mat, consider the Porte + Hall Innerweave Doormat. Its weaved material and tiger eye color (which combines hints of orange and brown) project a homely vibe. The texture grants it durability for either inside or outside the door.

Additionally, this doormat has a latex backing that prevents it from slipping and sliding across the floor every time you enter or leave. The latex also adds to its longevity as it can withstand environmental damage.

You can pick up the Porte + Hall Product Innerweave Doormat for $98.

Customers say: “This is a perfect mat for my guest bathroom. Very nice add to my decor.

Porte + Hall Outsider Doormat Review

The next item in my Porte + Hall review is designed around keeping your house clean by keeping dirt out. The tough fibers of the Porte + Hall Outsider Doormat are great at itching the dirt off of your shoes. This works just as well for wet substances like mud and rainwater.

When it comes time to wash the doormat, you can remove its insert and drain the inside. Place both on their sides and let them dry. Maintenance is so simple that even an AI chat model could do it.

This doormat comes in a smokey grey color. You can pick it up for $295.

Customers say: “The is the best outdoor doormat I’ve ever owned. It looks so elegant and I love the innovative design.

Porte + Hall Product Chevron Natural Innerweave Runner Review

Porte + Hall Review

Runners are an underrated piece of interior design as they can turn hallways and empty spaces into key pieces in a house. That’s especially true if the runner in question is the Porte + Hall Product Chevron Natural Innerweave Runner, which measures 2’5” by 6’5”, is suited for inside and outside the house, and resists stains.

The texture is woven and delicate without fraying under pressure. That means it shouldn’t even shed even if you rub it with a steel wool cloth, though I wouldn’t recommend you test out that hypothesis. Grab it for $178.

Customers say: “The rugs have been awesome and they do everything advertised. We placed them at various entrances to our home.

Porte + Hall Product Wild Side Dove Insider Runner Review

Let me summarize the appeal of the Porte + Hall Product Wild Side Dove Insider Runner in one sentence; you know how other doormats catch your door and get stuck? This doormat won’t. Not only is it as thin as possible, but it has a slip-resistant bottom that sticks to the ground.

The Porte + Hall Product Wild Side Dove Insider Runner is 1/8” thick so nearly every door can glide right over it. It’s also exceeding light as it only weighs 2 pounds, so shaking it out to clean it is simple.

You don’t have to fear rainy days ruining your interior anymore since this runner is water-absorbent. This protects your floors and means you can safely wipe off your boots without muddying the inside of the house.

The Porte + Hall Product Wild Side Dove Insider Runner can be yours for $64.

Customers say: “I really love this mat. It looks so perfect at our front door. It’s thin but effective. I have not been able to find one that looks this nice so I am very happy to have found it.

Porte + Hall Product Insider Area Mat Review

Finally, let’s talk about the Porte + Hall Product Area Maze (Navy) Insider Area Mat, which is essential if you have a pet or a partner who doesn’t vacuum after they eat. This mat covers a 4’-6” x 6’-6, so it’s great for a kitchen or living room. It’s also incredibly thin and slip-resistant so it should feel like nothing at all.

This area mat is made from 100% jacquard-weave polyester, Polypropylene/Polyethylene, polyester, and polypropylene. You can pick it up for $198.

Customers say: “I use these in my kitchen to keep my dog’s water dish on. He’s a basset hound & tends to shake his head & get water everywhere, and this mat really soaks it up and is big enough to catch all of it. Love the color, pattern & quality.

Who Is Porte + Hall For?

Porte + Hall Review

The items I highlighted in my Porte + Hall review indicate that the brand is notable for more than just its functionality. I didn’t go too deep into their physical designs because, look at them, they’re gorgeous. They’re rugs for people who care just as much about how their house looks as how it feels to live in them.

Porte + Hall Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Porte + Hall Review

Here are the customer Porte + Hall review scores from their best-selling products as of May 2023, courtesy of the brand’s website.

  • Porte + Hall Product Wild Side Dove Insider Runner: 4.9/5 stars based on more than 740 pieces of customer feedback
  • Porte + Hall Product Tigers Eye (Natural) Inner Weave Doormat: 4.9/5 stars based on more than 170 pieces of customer feedback
  • Porte + Hall Product Smoke Frame Grey Insert Outsider Doormat: 4.9/5 stars based on more than 90 pieces of customer feedback

Meanwhile, the brand held equally impressive scores on Google Reviews. As of May 2023, it earned an average review score of 4.5/5 stars from more than 40 reviews.

Buyers said that the rugs lived up to what they promised; they were lightweight, mobile, did not get stuck under doors, and trapped debris. One customer wrote:

I absolutely love my new runner for the laundry room! The material is great and it is thin and easy to move and wash. The rug doesn’t get stuck under my doors. The absolute best part of this company is their customer service. My rug accidentally ended up at the wrong house and they were so easy and kind to work with. I had a new rug in the way in new time. I highly recommend them.”

Other shoppers said Porte + Hall’s customer service was exemplary. They said the brand answered their questions quickly and was happy to work through any issues with shipping.

“Worth every penny! Put one in front of kitchen sink on my hardwood. Hubby loved it! Complained about price. A few days later ask me to order for some other areas! If he approves it’s gotta be good,” said one customer.

There were a few grumpy Porte + Hall reviews that took umbrage with the rugs’ craftsmanship. They said the edges were rough or even unfinished. However, that was a comment that cropped up in a minority of customer reviews. For the most part, shoppers were impressed with Porte + Hall’s rugs.

Another criticism that came up a bit more was that the rugs weren’t easy to clean. This could’ve been due to the tough material, but some buyers faced difficulty drying the rugs after they’d cleaned them.

However, the majority of Porte + Hall reviews from customers said the rugs were worth the money. They were well-designed, durable, and excellent additions to a household. As such, I’ll conclude this section with one final customer testimonial from Google Reviews.

I absolutely love my new rug!  I’ve tried several indoor/outdoor rugs in my kitchen (easy to clean) but was never really happy with the feel.  My Porte + Hall rug is very well made, looks like a sisal but is easy on bare feet.  Love the backing—no need for a rug pad and it is holding tight to the floor.  Very happy with my purchase!

How To Choose The Best Porte + Hall Doormat

Porte + Hall Review

Here are some tips to help you select the right doormat, whether it’s one I included in my Porte + Hall review or one found elsewhere:

  • Size: Determine the appropriate size of the doormat based on the available space at your entryway. It should be large enough to accommodate foot traffic and cover the area where people typically step when entering your home.
  • Material: Consider the material based on the specific purpose and location of the doormat. Common materials include coir (made from coconut husks), rubber, nylon, or synthetic blends.
  • Functionality: Determine the primary function you want the doormat to serve. If you need it mainly for scraping dirt and debris off shoes, choose a doormat with a textured surface or bristles. If you want it to absorb moisture from wet shoes, opt for a doormat with absorbent properties.
  • Durability: Look for a doormat that is built to withstand outdoor conditions, including sun exposure, rain, and heavy foot traffic. Ensure the material and construction are sturdy and resistant to wear and tear.
  • Design and Style: Consider the design and style of the doormat to complement your home’s aesthetics. There are various options available, including plain, patterned, or personalized doormats. Choose a design that aligns with your taste and enhances the overall look of your entryway.
  • Maintenance: Evaluate the ease of cleaning and maintenance. Doormats that are easy to clean, shake, or hose off are preferable, as they can be kept in good condition with minimal effort.
  • Slip-Resistance: If safety is a concern, especially if the doormat will be placed on a slippery surface, opt for a doormat with a non-slip backing or one that is specifically designed for slip resistance.
  • Budget: Set a budget range for your doormat purchase. There are doormats available at various price points, so consider your budget while balancing the desired quality and features.
