Overview of Velour

Velour Lashes Review

Velour Beauty was founded in 2011 in Toronto, Canada by Asian-Canadian entrepreneur Mabel Lee. Having worn false eyelashes as part of her everyday beauty routine for years, Lee was dissatisfied with the fact that most of the falsies on the were made of uncomfortable, ill-fitting, fake-looking materials.

Investing money she made from selling hairstyling products online, Lee launched Velour with its signature product: lashes made from “naturally shedded” mink fur. The company soon skyrocketed thanks to the endorsement of celebrity clients, and its products were soon picked up by major retailers like Sephora and Ulta.

As of 2021, Velour mink lashes have been retired, and the brand is now committed to creating products made from 100% vegan, cruelty-free materials.

So that’s the capsule history of the brand—now, time to get down to business. This Velour Lashes review will kick things off with a li’l list of some of the brand’s most notable highlights before going in-depth on its bestselling products.

Leonardo da Vinci once said that “simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” While we don’t know what his lash situation was like (we’re guessing not too good, based on those gnarly brows in his self-portrait), he could have been speaking of the Mini Me lashes.

Velour Lash Adhesive Black Review

Ever wanted your eyelash adhesive to do double duty as an eyeliner? Dream no more: the Lash Adhesive Black lets you precisely apply your lashes with its ultra-thin brush, and the adhesive dries black to give you that extra layer of definition. Get it for $12.

Velour Lash Adhesive White Review

Are Velour Lashes Real Mink?

Velour Lashes Review

Velour first attracted attention for creating its lashes with mink fur, which is super-soft, natural-looking, and comfortable for all-day wear. The rising demand for cruelty-free products during the last decade has compelled many beauty brands to rethink their manufacturing practices, and Velour has now joined those ranks.

According to Ethical Elephant, in 2020 Velour announced that it had halted the manufacturing and marketing of its mink lashes in 2020. As of 2021, the company has completely eliminated mink from its products, all of which are now made from synthetic, vegan, 100% cruelty-free materials.

Obviously, this means that several of the brand’s previously popular products are no longer available, although you may still be able to purchase some of them from third-party retailers. Our Velour Lashes review did some legwork to find out which products have been discontinued; our initial list is below:

  1. Velour Lashes Strike a Pose
  2. Velour Lashes Doll Me Up
  3. Velour Lashes Carlilash
  4. Velour Lashes WINGing
  5. Velour Lashes You Complete Me
  6. Velour Lashes Girl You Crazy
  7. Velour Lashes What the Fluff
  8. Velour Lashes Lash in the City

How Do You Trim Velour Lashes?

Velour Lashes Review

In order to properly size Velour lashes to your eye, you must first remove the lashes from the tray that they are packaged in (duh). Then, hold them up to your eye and align them along your natural lash line to see where you need to cut them.

Using the Velour Too Sharp Lash Scissors ($19), trim the lash band as much as you need to, starting from the outer corner of the lash. Make sure you are measuring the lash relative to your own lash line every step of the way—you can always remove more if you need to, but remember, you can’t put them back!

After that, you’re good to go! Get out there and slay.

How Long Do Velour Lashes Last?

Velour Lashes Review

Thanks to their high-quality, durable materials, Velour lashes will last an average of 20+ uses if you care for them properly. Here’s some tips on how to get the most life out of your lashes:

  1. Never apply makeup or mascara directly to lashes
  2. Clean off glue build-up on the cotton band
  3. Store lashes in their case after every use
  4. Be gentle with lashes when applying or removing
  5. Spot clean lashes with a gentle, oil-free makeup remover if needed
  6. If lashes get wet or begin to lose their curl, gently restore their original shape with an eyelash curler

Who Is Velour For?

Velour Lashes Review

While Velour first made its name by catering to the make-mine-mink crowd, since the brand’s transition to mink-free lashes it has opened its product line up to any and all beauty enthusiasts, including those who place a premium on vegan and cruelty-free products. Additionally, the brand now offers latex-free adhesives for customers who have latex allergies or sensitivities.

Comparison: Velour vs. Lilly Lashes

Velour Lashes Review

Velour wasn’t the only brand getting in on the mink lashes boom in the 2010s. Founded in 2013 by reality TV star and beauty maven Lilly Ghalichi, Lilly Lashes attracted attention for its 3D mink lashes, which were sported by such celebs as Jennifer Lopez, Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Rihanna, and Lady Gaga.

As far as prices go, the two brands are pretty similar. Velour Lashes go for $26-$27, while standard Lilly Lashes falsies are $23-$27; note though that Lilly also features specialty lashes (e.g., Always+Forever, The Wedding Lash) at a higher price point of $38-$45

The major difference between these comparable companies is that Velour, as noted above, has completely eliminated mink from its product line, while Lilly Lashes still offers mink-based products but has also introduced faux-mink alternatives. For this reason, obviously, Lilly Lashes cannot claim to be 100% vegan or cruelty-free.

Velour Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Velour Lashes Review

It’s time for this Velour Lashes review to take to the streets (or at least the internet) to see what the people really have to say about these recently cruelty-free beauty products.

Let’s start at the brand website, velourbeauty.com, with the company’s top-seller: the Would I Lie? Lashes, which score a spectacular 4.9/5 stars based on 161 reviews. Customers were blown away by these lashes’ natural look, easy application, and durability.

Velour has the perfect lashes that compliment hooded eyes, these lashes are also super high quality, and very light weight. You get multiple uses out of these which makes it worth the money you’re spending,” reads one representative review. Another buyer commented on how this product made her rethink her whole opinion of false eyelashes:

After using mascara all my life I decided to try eyelashes. Velour is the second brand I tried as I was about to say this isn’t for me. Other brands were stiff and difficult to put on. They are also uncomfortable and itchy. Velour Is different. Very easy to put on, very comfortable. Most importantly they look so natural. A bit expensive so I learn how to extend the usage time.”

Even away from its home base, Velour continued to rack up high ratings from satisfied customers. On Influenster, Velour lashes are rated 4.5/5 stars from 461 reviews. Commenters here reaffirmed that these products are worthy of their price tag thanks to both their quality and their long-lasting wear.

After a couple of my favorite Youtube gurus swore by them, I knew I had to purchase a pair. They are quite pricey for what I would normally pay for false lashes but with discount codes and their longevity, they’re so worth it!! I easily get at least 20 wears out of them They’re light, luxurious, and so soft it’s almost hard to believe they’re fake!” said one happy buyer.

Over at Sephora, the Effortless – No Trim – Natural Lash Collection pulls in 4.4/5 stars from 891 reviews. One of the most interesting positive reviews comes from a woman who wore her lashes while skydiving:

Wow, no words can describe how great the quality of these lashes were. I jumped out of a plane yesterday, somersaulted 13,000 in the air, got whiplashed with wind at 120mph. Let me just say…not a single hair follicle was lost. Will repurchase again!”

The overwhelming majority of reviewers have attested that these lashes last as long as they claim to, as long as they are properly cared for.

Is Velour Worth It?

Velour Lashes Review

After mulling over all the evidence, this Velour Lashes review has concluded that the strongest selling points of the brand’s products is that they are a) natural-feeling, soft, and comfortable, b) designed to last 20+ wears, and c) easy to apply, remove, and care for.

Sure, these may be pricey when compared to your standard-issue false lashes, but customers attest that they are of much higher quality and last far longer. If you spend $7 on drugstore lashes but only get 2-3 uses out of them, you’ll ultimately end up spending more money on a lower-quality product than you would investing in luxe-looking and long-lasting Velour lashes.

So in case this Velour Lashes review hasn’t already made its position clear, we would say that, yes, this brand is definitely worth the buy.
