About Vinted

Vinted Review

Overconsumption is a 21st Century problem. Fashion has never been so accessible, as we’re spoiled with the convenience of online shopping. This has led to most of our closets being filled to the brim with barely worn clothes.

While most opt for the ol’ donation bin, it can be tricky to say goodbye to vintage and designer pieces. This is where Vinted comes in.

A viable marketplace similar to Depop, Poshmark, and Facebook Marketplace, Vinted allows trendsetters to list their pre-used garments on their very own account.

Customers can also use the app to browse through hundreds of well-known brands, such as Puma and Chanel. Boasting over 337k Instagram followers, it seems that Vinted is all the rage when it comes to reselling fashion.

Looking to sell your old white Converses? If so, perhaps it’s worth making space on your phone for Vinted. Keep reading, as in my Vinted review, I’ll take an in-depth look at the brand, its products, customer ratings, promotions, and more to help you decide if they’re worth checking out.

Overview of Vinted

Vinted Review

I don’t mean to be crass, but moving is a bitch. Properly organizing your belongings takes patience and time, and clothes seem to be especially frustrating. Milda Mitkute was practically buried in her closet, as she found it difficult to cram her clothes neatly in boxes.

After combing through her selection, she found that most of the garments she owned were either lightly used or never worn at all. This served as the initial inspiration for Vinted.

In a joint partnership with co-founder Justas Janauskas, Vinted made its official debut in 2008. Primarily based in Europe, it leads with a sustainable approach to fashion.

The brand believes that clothes should be given a second chance, as their app allows customers and sellers to list pre-owned garments. Today, their online community is about 65 million members strong.

Before I kickstart my Vinted review, let’s go over some initial highlights.

Highlights

Vinted Review
  • Online marketplace to sell and buy used clothing
  • Leads with a sustainable and environmentally conscious approach
  • Allows resellers to make money
  • Zero selling fees
  • Home to hundreds of clothing brands
  • Compatible with iOS and Android devices

Thrifting comes with its own line of pros and cons. On the one hand, it’s an exciting adventure that allows customers to find a diamond in the rough.

On the other hand, it’s a tedious process that requires hours of sifting through rack after rack. If you’d rather skip to the good part, Vinted is a social marketplace that’s home to hundreds of acclaimed brands.

Resellers can easily list their pre-owned garments on their account without the worry of hidden fees. On the flip side, customers can browse through a vast selection of highly collectible items. If you’re an avid trendsetter, brands such as Selkie, Comme des Garcons, and Rick Owens should ring some bells.

Vinted App Review

Donating a plain white t-shirt isn’t difficult. However, giving away a Gucci tee is a whole other story. Valuable items should be sold accordingly, especially if it’s designer or vintage. If you’re a trendsetter with exceptional taste, reseller apps like Vinted can help ensure that you receive at least some of the profits back.

If you’re unfamiliar with online marketplaces such as Depop and Poshmark, I’ll provide a brief rundown of how it all works in the next section of my Vinted review.

How Does Vinted Work?

Vinted Review

To access their services, customers and resellers must download the Vinted app. From there, you’re asked to create a profile. Users must fill in some basic information, including their email address and password.

Vinted will then create a more detailed profile based on specific details you enter, such as your letter, shoe, and number size. They’ll also ask for your clothing preferences, which include women, men, and children. From there, you’re free to explore their platform.

Let’s say you encountered a cute pair of Reformation jeans in your size. If everything checks out in the product description, you can proceed to checkout. Standard shipping costs an affordable $8, but you can also opt for pick-up points and direct delivery for a select price.

Afterward, you must enter your mailing address and other related information to finalize your purchase. Not sure about those jeans anymore? If so, no worries. You can add them to your favorites to view them later. It’s worth mentioning that Vinted doesn’t allow you to hold on to specific garments.

How To Sell On Vinted?

Vinted Review

As winter creeps closer, you might’ve come to the disappointing realization that you outgrew your Patagonia jacket. While it might be too small, it’s still in perfect condition. You decide to list it on your Vinted account.

To list your Patagonia jacket, you must log onto your account and press the sell button (the plus sign) on the bottom center of the screen. From there, you must upload a picture of it, give the product a title, and input other important information, such as the brand, condition, and color. It’s recommended that you be as thorough as possible to ensure no miscommunication.

The next step is to settle on a price. You can also enable offers, which start at 70% of the initial cost to ensure no low-balling. Lastly, you must select what package size fits best for the garment. This includes options from small to large. Once your listing is officially published, Vinted will notify you of any orders or offers.

Who Is Vinted For?

Vinted Review

Vinted is recommended for trendsetters looking to clean out their closet space. It’s the perfect hub for those who own unique or designer pieces, whether that be a vintage dress or a pair of Prada heels. Compared to Facebook Marketplace, Vinted offers buyer protection to ensure no shady deals are made.

Like most reseller apps, Vinted is usually in talks of sustainable fashion. Their platform allows users to give their clothes a second chance. It’s considered a better alternative than throwing your garments in the trash.

Vinted Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Vinted Review

Compared to traditional retailers, reseller apps come with some hesitancy. That’s reasonable since the ‘self-owned consignment shop’ hustle doesn’t come with much liability compared to established brands like Aritzia and Nordstrom. Case in point, I found mixed feedback for this brand. Here are some Vinted reviews I found online:

  • Sitejabber: 285 reviews with 1.4/5 stars
  • Trustpilot: 2,418 reviews with 1.4/5 stars
  • Influenster: 105 reviews with 3.4/5 stars
  • Reviews.io: 71 reviews with 1.5/5 stars

Let’s start off with the positives first. Some users on Trustpilot and Sitejabber shared great experiences with using the Vinted app. Customers and resellers reported seamless transactions. Others were impressed with the brand’s vast selection of items sold at affordable prices.

One Trustpilot reviewer wrote: Just recently joined Vinted and I must say first impressions are very good. It’s easy enough to navigate the site and upload unwanted items.”

Another user on Sitejabber wrote: “I have been using this site for a year both selling and buying and have had great service. They were extremely fast with response to delivery issues and any inquiries and helped solve problems quickly.”

In terms of the mobile app itself, I thought to include some reviews concerning its functionality. The App Store lists over 6.6k Vinted reviews with an average of 4.7/5 stars, while Google Play boasts over 898k comments averaging 4.2/5 stars. I’ll let the customers do the talking.

“This has become my favorite app. I was just curious and was pleasantly surprised by how great it really is. Real people, real items, real communication and the best experiences which have almost always included fast shipping, free gifts, the sweetest notes, and adorable and/or reused packaging,” one customer wrote on Google Play.

As you’ve probably already noticed, Vinted isn’t free of negative feedback. I found a significant amount of complaints related to buyer and seller communication, delivery, customer service, and, most alarmingly, scams. If you want the full overview, I’ll discuss the deets in the next section of my Vinted review.

Is Vinted Legit?

Vinted Review

Unless you’ve made reselling clothes your main source of income, I think it’s safe to say that Vinted is used by ‘occasional entrepreneurs.’ This means that they’re not always completely serious when it comes to fulfilling orders and meeting expectations.

That seems to be the central area of concern for Vinted, as most buyers received items that were either in poor quality or not as advertised. Others reported delayed deliveries and unresponsive customer service.

Given the nature of their platform, it’s always a good idea to have some buyer’s skepticism before you purchase a pre-used item. These issues are more reflective of the individual sellers than the company itself.

Is Vinted Worth It?

Vinted Review

From Adidas to Zara, Vinted is home to hundreds of acclaimed brands. You’re bound to find something in their expansive inventory.

Plus, most of the products listed by resellers are way below the estimated retail price. Selling is quite simple as well, as users are only asked to provide basic information in order to list items on Vinted.

Vinted Promotions & Discounts

Vinted Review

At the time of writing my Vinted review, I found no promotions or discounts to include.

FAQ

Vinted Review

Who owns Vinted?

Vinted is owned by co-founders Milda Mitkute and Justas Janauskas.

Does Vinted have Seller Protection?

According to their website, Vinted provides seller protection. Unfortunately, they don’t offer many details on this policy compared to buyer protection.

What is Vinted’s Shipping Policy?

This wouldn’t be a complete Vinted review without going over the brand’s shipping policy. Standard delivery costs $8. Resellers can also opt for service point shipping as another option.

If you’d rather avoid transportation costs, customers and sellers can also meet up if they live in the same area. To help keep tabs on your order, the brand will issue a tracking number alongside a confirmation email.

What is Vinted’s Return Policy?

Vinted offers customers a 4-day window to return their items. This extends to products that are in poor condition or not as advertised. It’s worth mentioning that requests will be first sent to the seller.

If it’s rejected, it will be issued to the brand’s support team for further vetting. Need additional specifics? If so, I suggest contacting the company for further information.
