About Lumin

Lumin Skin Review

Lumin is a Los Angeles-based skincare start-up that aims to give men an easy way to properly take care of their skin. Customers have the option to sign up for a subscription to make Lumin part of their daily routine. The skincare world is a tough one to break into but the brand has gained some solid traction so far. Lumin is featured in a number of leading publications including Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, and Vogue.

This Lumin Skin review will take you through their past, products, promotions, and more to help you decide if Lumin can spruce up your skincare routine.

Overview of Lumin

Lumin Skin Review 1
Lumin Recovery Oil
GQ Best Stuff Award

Lumin is a recent start-up, founded in the summer of 2018 by Richard Hong and Darwish Gani. The company was born out of Hong’s struggles with acne in his youth. At the time, he was looking for solutions and came up empty. He found brands too focused on sales mode and the products ineffective.

After a fruitless search, Hong turned to his sister for tips. She shared her own skincare routine using products from their native South Korea. This Lumin Skin review is thrilled to report it was a nice familial beginning. Siblings working together… If only it was that easy when we were young.

The idea behind Lumin skincare for men is to bring that improved experience to the skincare industry leaving aside the old challenges. Hong and Gani tested a number of products to see which gave the best results, then began manufacturing their own lines with the most effective ingredients.

Lumin Skin Review

You can buy Lumin products individually, but if you don’t know where to start, there’s a short questionnaire to determine your skincare needs—like the one Hong received from his sister. Then you have the option to sign up for a subscription based on those needs. No wandering around the skincare aisle looking lost, those products get delivered to your door.

Lumin grew very quickly, building a customer base in the hundreds of thousands worldwide in a little over a year. Hong and Gani noted the rapidly changing company in an Inc.com interview, but they’ve been careful to not outrun their ability to deliver quality products and customer service. They’ve done it all while encouraging men to ditch the old stigma around male skincare and pay more attention to the health of their skin.

Lumin Skin Review
Before/After Lumin Skincare

Let’s take a look at the highlights of this Lumin Skin review:

Pros

  • Wide range of skincare products targeting different problem areas
  • Many customers leave a Lumin Skin review praise the effectiveness of the products
  • Customers can subscribe or purchase individual items
  • Subscription process offers a personalized experience
  • Priced reasonably for high-quality skincare (though more expensive than drugstore brands)

Cons

  • Negative Lumin Skin reviews take issues with the cancellation process
  • Lumin bottles tend to be small
  • Lumin say that high demand is currently causing shipping delays

Lumin offers a number of products in their skincare line and a few more in the hair and body category. This Lumin Skin review can’t look at all of them, but we’ll cover:

  1. Modern Bathroom Set
  2. Advanced Repair Scalp Treatment
  3. Charcoal Pore Strip
  4. Age Management Set
  5. Eye Puff Deflator

Lumin Modern Bathroom Set

The Lumin Modern Bathroom Set covers the essentials in 5 products:

  • Keratin Recovery Shampoo (individually $11 for 9.3 oz)
  • Keratin Strengthening Conditioner ($11 for 3.4 oz)
  • Clarifying Body Wash ($11 for 9.3 oz)
  • Charcoal Cleanser ($12.80 for 1.7 oz)
  • Moisturizing Balm ($23.20 for 1.7 oz)

The first three cover your showering needs while the latter two are all about skincare. The Keratin Shampoo and Conditioner one-two punch has the effect of strengthening hair follicles and keeping them in your head right where you want them to be. The Lumin Body Wash meanwhile focuses on ensuring your skin retains moisture and avoids breakouts thanks to a mixture containing tea tree oil and aloe vera.

The skin products each serve unique functions. The Charcoal Cleanser removes all the dirt and grime. The Moisturizing Balm relies on a combination of meadowfoam seed oil and a handful of extracts to hydrate your face. On Lumin’s Instagram page, there’s a before/after skincare picture of John Legend and his baby son, so the idea is that your face will be baby smooth.

The Modern Bathroom Set costs $59, representing a savings of $10 on buying each separately. If you’re into the whole Lumin system, it’s a good way to go.

Lumin Advanced Repair Scalp Treatment

The Advanced Repair Scalp Treatment is the only Hair and Body item absent from the Modern Bathroom Set. While the others give you the essentials, this is the Lumin equivalent of calling in the cavalry. Like the shampoo and conditioner, it helps with repairing the hair follicles but it also lends an extra hand to the scalp.

Primarily, this comes from tea tree oil that prevents oil build-up on the scalp and fights fungal infections. The Advanced Repair Scalp Treatment costs $12 for a 1.7 oz bottle so it’s only a slight increase on buying the shampoo or conditioner if you want to bring in all the king’s horses.

Lumin Charcoal Pore Strip

The cavalry seems to be too weak even for the Charcoal Pore Strip. Lumin calls it a skincare torpedo. It’s a little more like waxing but for dirt and less painful. You put the strip over your nose and it digs deep into the pores to pull out all the dirt and impurities to prevent breakouts

This Lumin Skin review still finds the idea of a lump of coal doing the cleaning very funny but it’s a well-documented method by now. You can try out the Charcoal Pore Strip for $16 for 1 strip. Warning: you may get seriously grossed out by how much stuff comes out of your pores.

Lumin Age Management Set

Lumin’s Age Management Set gives you three tools:

  • Moisturizing Balm (Individually $23.20 for 1.7 oz)
  • Dark Circle Defense ($23.20 for 1 oz)
  • Anti-Wrinkle Serum ($15.20)

This Lumin Skin review already touched upon the Moisturizing Balm and it’s really just to fight signs of aging by promoting healthy skin. The other two deal with the more concrete issues.

The Dark Circle Defense explains itself pretty effectively. It contains niacinamide to strengthen skin and reduce inflammation, lemon extract to aid against environmental stress and restore an even skin tone, and caffeine for its antioxidant and inflammation reduction properties. The Anti-Wrinkle Serum turns to ascorbic acid to fight damage from pollution and sunrays, as well as hyaluronic acid for its hydrating capacities.

Altogether, the set costs $52, with a savings of just under $10 compared to buying each separately. If you’re looking to pull out all the stops to keep your skin looking its youngest, the Age Management Set is your go-to.

Lumin Eye Puff Deflator

Waging war against a common symptom of tiredness, the Eye Puff Deflator conjures up the fantastic image of letting the air out of puffy eyes but it actually just relies on science. The niacinamide returns and is joined by the spa favourite, cucumber extract, for hydration and soothing, and green tea extract to fight inflammation

To apply, you simply rub the Eye Puff Deflator around your eyes using what is essentially a thicker lipstick container (that’s the best way to describe it for us dudes, anyway). It’s a quick and easy solution for $9.60 for a 0.18 oz bottle.

Lumin Membership

Lumin Skin Review

When you buy Lumin Skincare, it automatically signs you up for either a monthly or bi-monthly subscription (you can revert this to a one-time purchase before ordering if you prefer) and creates an account for you to manage your subscription.

If you’re wondering how much is Lumin monthly? Subscriptions come with a 20% discount so there are some savings. Lumin subscription members do also get a few perks. Some of these include early access to new products and a Lumin Skin promo code as well as occasional free gifts.

Lumin Skin Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Lumin Skin Review

It comes down to the question, is Lumin skincare good? Fortunately, customers who leave a Lumin Skin review either on their site, Amazon, or Reddit tend to praise the product’s quality. Skincare routines are a finicky subject, so it’s not uncommon to see people who didn’t have success. But there are certainly more who attest to Lumin’s ability to solve long standing issues with breakouts or acne, or just make their skin feel better.

Concerns that don’t cite ineffectiveness tend to fall into two camps. The first is cost. Lumin products are marginally above the price of the more common skincare products, which seems reasonable given their position as a more upscale brand but the issue is quantity. Lumin bottles just don’t hold that much so the answer to the question of how much does Lumin skin care cost? quickly goes from not much to a fair bit.

The second issue that came up was difficulties with cancelling subscriptions. Some customers found Lumin would encourage other deals and this held up the process and sometimes led to another month being shipped before the cancellation went through.

Is Lumin Skincare Worth It?

Lumin Skin Review

As mentioned, skincare is finicky and it can take a while to find the right solution. Lumin seems like it’s worth a try if you’re looking to either up your skincare game or solve some frustrating issues. For those who need a little more though, there’s a number of people praising how much it helped them. However, at the price per bottle, it’s not accessible for everyone to incorporate into their routine.

Lumin Promotions & Discounts

This Lumin Skin review can’t find any active deals on the site right now but Lumin offers the permanent Lumin Heroes Program, which gives a Lumin Skin discount code to healthcare workers, firefighters and first responders, law enforcement, active military and veterans, and last but not least those work for non-profit organizations

There’s also a Lumin free trial where you receive a month for free and then are automatically signed up for the next installment of the subscription unless you cancel.

How do I cancel my Lumin skin subscription?

To cancel a Lumin subscription, go to the support portal (Support – Contact Us under I need help!) and select I want to cancel my subscription and then follow the prompt to cancel. You do have the option of changing your subscription products or skipping a delivery too.

Cancellations must be requested prior to order processing or you will be charged for that order.

What is Lumin’s Shipping Policy?

Lumin ships worldwide and offers free shipping on orders over $25. Costs for orders under $25 vary by destination. You are also on the hook for any taxes or duties incurred on international shipments. You’re given the expected shipping time frame upon checkout but the current expectation is 4-9 in the US and Southeast Asia, 5-10 in Europe, and 8-22 elsewhere.

COVID-19 has impacted shipping times and Lumin says to give 4-8 days for orders to be processed before they are shipped. There are also currently restrictions on the countries Lumin can ship to as a result of COVID-19.

There is no immediate information on tracking, but this Lumin Skin review guesses you will probably either receive a tracking number with your order or be able to track it through your account.

What is Lumin’s Return Policy?

You cannot return a free trial, or bulk order but for other unused and unopened items there is a 60-day return window. You are on the hook for the return postage whether or not a refund is issued upon return.

Make sure to take note of your tracking number, postal courier, and order number as these are all needed for the return form found in the support portal and filled out online. You can also find the Lumin return addresses in the same section of the support portal.

All Lumin customer service is done through the support portal accessed by clicking support at the bottom of the site.

You then click the Contact Us button and there are a number of categories where you can find more information and/or submit a question. It may take up to 48 hours for feedback due to COVID-19 related delays.

EverlyWell Test Review

About EverlyWell

EverlyWell Test Review

EverlyWell aims to make medical testing easy and accessible. They provide a wide range of tests available for purchase and delivery to your home. Having earned an investment on a November 2017 episode of Shark Tank and with half a million people in counting that have taken EverlyWell tests, they’re doing something right. They’re clearly a popular online testing resources, with over 100k Instagram followers to back this up.

This EverlyWell test review will take a look at the science, prices, and products available on EverlyWell, as well as what people are saying, so you can decide if EverlyWell could be beneficial for you.

Overview of EverlyWell

EverlyWell began in 2016 under Julia Cheeks, who had the idea after waiting weeks to receive results for expensive out-of-pockets tests. What sets EverlyWell apart is the comprehensiveness of their range of tests, while their competitors tend to specialize.

What does EverlyWell test for? The company offers 24 tests covering everything from vitamin levels to sexual health and hormones. We’ll get into their most sought-after tests later on in this EverlyWell test review. On top of testing, EverlyWell is committed to privacy and only shares personal information with doctors when needed.

EverlyWell Test Review

In 2017, Cheeks took the company to Shark Tank and created quite a stir, eventually receiving and accepting an offer of $1 million for 5% from Lori Greiner. The Austin, Texas-based company went on to raise $50 million in funding in 2019 from various venture capital firms and have grown in popularity among customers with half a million people having taken EverlyWell tests.

The ease is a major selling point, with results advertised to take under 5 days to return once the test reaches the lab. However, the COVID-19 crisis has extended this to 8 days, which is still impressive, given the unprecedented circumstances. EverlyWell was among the first companies to roll out a commercial COVID-19 test but delays with FDA approval meant the release had to be pushed back.

With all the health concern going on in these times, the at-home nature of EverlyWell’s tests is a big benefit. It’s safe to say Greiner has been happy with her investment. In a 2020 Shark Tank update, she praised the company, calling them one of Shark Tank’s most successful to date.

The Science

EverlyWell Test Review
EverlyWell COVID-19 Test

EverlyWell maintains a dedication to meeting scientific standards in their testing. There are two levels to this: the tests and the labs. EverlyWell’s tests are Laboratory Developed Tests (LDTs), which the FDA defines as a test designed and developed within a single laboratory meant for clinical usage.

Going through the exact oversight of LDTs is beyond the scope of this EverlyWell test review, but the key point is that LDTs do not need to receive FDA approval. Some see this as a loophole, however the FDA recognizes the importance of LDTs and they are frequently used across the United States.

Laboratory testing is regulated under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments and EverlyWell takes care to match these standards. They employ esteemed medical professionals to lead their research. Further, if you have any concerns, customers can always request a third party review of the lab tests by a member of a network of board-certified physicians. This third party can also be contacted prior to purchasing a test.

Let’s take a look at the highlights of this EverlyWell test review:

Pros

  • Many customers note in their EverlyWell reviews that they love the convenience of the testing process
  • Tests come with explicit instructions
  • EverlyWell laboratories are CLIA-certified, backed up by a Medical Advisory Board
  • The majority of the 24 tests available are backed by science
  • Very discreet service that prioritizes privacy
  • Free shipping

Cons

  • There are legitimacy concerns with the food allergy tests
  • Tests can be expensive, more so than getting a test at a clinic depending on location
  • Only ships to the United States and not New York, New Jersey, or Rhode Island

EverlyWell Sample Collection & Curated Results

As at-home tests, EverlyWell requires self-collection methods. Fortunately, these are generally less invasive than collection methods used in clinics while still being supported by scientific research. This EverlyWell test review isn’t really able to go into all the science but any new method that deviates from traditional clinic practices must pass EverlyWell’s validation process and they assure that many have been in use for years.

EverlyWell’s blood tests are done using the dried blood spot method. They note that only a little bit of blood is needed for testing and the traditional drawing blood from veins leads to wasted blood. In addition, EverlyWell uses self-collection methods like saliva, urine, vaginal swabs, and stool samples. EverlyWell tests are checked to make sure they can reliably test for biomarkers and all come with instructions on how to correctly administer the tests.

Each EverlyWell test is designed to check for certain biomarkers. These can be testosterone levels in a saliva test or cholesterol in a dried blood test. Once you have your results, you can print off a doctor friendly version to be sent to your doctor. EverlyWell encourages this as their tests (with the exception of the STD test) can’t actually diagnose issues but can only be used by doctors to diagnose diseases.

EverlyWell Test Reviews

EverlyWell Test Review
EverlyWell Food Sensitivity Test

EverlyWell has 24 available tests, so too many to look at every one. Instead, this EverlyWell test review will look at a selection of their popular ones.

  1. Indoor & Outdoor Allergy Test
  2. Cholesterol & Lipids Test
  3. Women’s Health Test
  4. STD Test – Female
  5. Men’s Health Test
  6. STD Test – Male

EverlyWell Allergy Test Review

EverlyWell Test Review
EverlyWell Vitamin D & Inflammation Test and Allergy Test

This EverlyWell test review knows too well the annoyance of constant sneezing or itching in your eyes and throat. If it’s going unexplained, the EverlyWell Indoor & Outdoor Allergy Test wants to solve that. It checks for allergic reactions to 14 different trees, 9 weeds, 7 grasses, 4 molds, 2 dust mites, 2 pet allergens, and 2 pests.

EverlyWell tests the Immunoglobulin E reactivity in your blood sample to each of the allergens. It cannot say for sure that the exact symptom is a result of one allergen, but it can tell you if you’re reacting to it. Your doctor can confirm this, and avoiding these allergens could go a long way.

The Indoor & Outdoor Allergy Test is performed using a finger prick blood sample that is done at home with included single-use lancets. That sounds a little painful but in EverlyWell’s esteemed medical opinion, it’s far less queasy than drawing a vial of your own blood. Plus, a surprising number of people faint from those. The test kit contains all you need including detailed directions, a biohazard bag to return your sample with prepaid shipping, and alcohol pads, gauze, and bandages to clean your finger.

The Indoor & Outdoor Allergy Test costs $199. It’s more expensive than if insurance covers a regular test, but cheaper than it can be without insurance (especially for one covering so many potential allergens). The convenience is also a nice factor and if you hate having your blood drawn, the finger prick offers an easier alternative.

EverlyWell Cholesterol & Lipids Test Review

EverlyWell Test Review
EverlyWell Cholesterol & Lipids Test

Another using the finger prick method, the Cholesterol & Lipids Test checks three levels within the cholesterol umbrella as well as total cholesterol. HDL is the good cholesterol, while LDL is the bad kind. Both are bad in excess though as are triglycerides, the primary fat in blood so EverlyWell tests for all three.

It may seem obvious to you why the Cholesterol & Lipids Test is such a useful test. Obesity and diabetes are linked to high cholesterol, and these health conditions are on the rise throughout North America. It’s important to be aware of your cholesterol and lipid levels to take preventative measures and to prioritize your health!

The Cholesterol & Lipids Test Kit comes with lancets, instructions, return shipping and bags, and cleaning products. It costs $49, which is more expensive than a regular home testing kit, however you do get the benefit of having your test conducted by a lab, which generally costs more than the $49. For an important measure of heart health, the lab testing might give you an added feeling of security.

EverlyWell Women’s Health Test Review

EverlyWell Test Review
EverlyWell Women’s Health Test

EveryWell’s Women’s Health Test looks at the levels of 11 important hormones:

  • Estradiol
  • Progesterone
  • Luteinizing Hormone
  • Follicle-Stimulating Hormone
  • DHEAS
  • Cortisol
  • Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone
  • Free T3
  • Free T4
  • Free Testosterone
  • Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies

Hormone imbalances can lead to a number of problems ranging from a general malaise to various pains, weight fluctuation, and symptoms of depression. The Women’s Health Test requires finger prick blood collection and saliva collection to determine whether these hormone levels could be an issue for test participants.

Coming with all the necessary supplies, it costs $399, which is steep for sure but tests for just one of these hormones can cost over $50 and sometimes over $100 so you’re saving by bundling. Of course, if you only need the one it might not be the best option, but this convenient, all-encompassing EverlyWell test certainly has its benefits.

EverlyWell Women’s STD Test Review

EverlyWell Test Review
EverlyWell STD Test – Female

While EverlyWell do offer tests for individual STDs, the Female STD Test tests for each one EverlyWell has. A finger prick collection and a vaginal swab are needed to test for Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, Syphilis, Hepatitis C, HIV (1&2), Herpes Type 2, and Trichomoniasis.

The privacy of EverlyWell could bring added comfort for what can be an awkward process. Although STDs are very common and nothing to be ashamed of. The STD test is also the only one that can definitively diagnose a disease and EverlyWell does give you the option of connecting with their network of independent physicians to receive treatment in the case of a positive

The price for the Female STD Test is $199. Easy access to STD tests and the cost depends on the state, so it’s possible the at-home, send-in route is the easiest way to go. On the other hand, it’s also possible that there are more cost-effective options. For discretion, though, EverlyWell presents a good option.

EverlyWell Men’s Health Test Review

EverlyWell Test Review
EverlyWell Men’s Health Test

The EverlyWell’s Men’s Health Test also requires a finger prick collection and a saliva collection, and it tests four hormone levels: Cortisol, DHEA-S, Estradiol, and Free Testosterone. The male test got a little short-changed but it prides itself on the difference these hormones make.

Like the women’s version, the Men’s Health Test comes with everything you need and tests the levels of hormones that, if imbalances occur, can lead to physical pain, irritation, or mental health issues. Only testing for four hormones, it’s less expensive at $199 but still provides the discreet insight into your overall hormonal health.

EverlyWell Test Review
EverlyWell STD Test – Male

The Men’s STD Test is identical to the female in that it tests for Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, Syphilis, Hepatitis C, HIV (1&2), Herpes Type 2, and Trichomoniasis but the method changes in that the male test requires a finger prick collection and a urine test.

Like the female test, the Men’s STD Test costs $199. It offers the same advantage of privacy and the option to consult with medical professionals in the case of a positive diagnosis.

EverlyWell Test Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Let’s get one thing out of the way first. This EverlyWell test review did not look at the Food Sensitivity Test but it is the one you will find the most on if you do a search and pick a random EverlyWell test review. The method used (Immunoglobulin G reactivity) seems dubious at best

There are a number of anecdotes on Reddit, Amazon, and in longer form reviews of people asking their doctors about this test and hearing basically, no, that doesn’t test food allergies. Food allergy testing can be tricky and doctors tend to favour trial and error elimination strategies but it’s hard to recommend the Food Sensitivity Test.

EverlyWell Test Review

The good news is this seems to be an outlier. Generally, everyone who leaves an EverlyWell test review is very positive about the process. Customers enjoy the privacy and ease of the at-home tests and report that results are quick and easy to understand

There are also few issues with EverlyWell’s shipping. The big question must be, is EverlyWell accurate? This shouldn’t be an area of concern as they take care to meet scientific standards. If you’re still concerned, you can always request an EverlyWell testing review conducted by a third party group of experts.

Are EverlyWell Tests Worth It?

EverlyWell Test Review
EverlyWell Indoor & Outdoor Allergy Test

Unrelated, but this hairless cat is weird and cute as hell.  Anyway. As it’s not a small investment and tests for medical issues, EverlyWell’s worth is going to be highly related to its need. If you’ve had a headache for a couple days, it’s probably not worth buying a $399 hormone test. However, if you have long standing problems or something worrying you, EverlyWell presents a strong option for testing.

The worth is also determined by the other options in your state, your insurance coverage, and your privacy preferences, but, for this EverlyWell test review, they certainly deserve to be in the running. Most customers are satisfied with the process and the insight they’ve gained, so EverlyWell’s testing is definitely worth the try.

EverlyWell Promotions & Discounts

A big bonus is it’s easy to find an EverlyWell promo code. Currently, their site offers the code WH100 for $100 off the Women’s Health Test, and you can also create an account to receive an EverlyWell discount code.

EverlyWell also offers discounts if you need to regularly take tests. You save 25% for monthly subscriptions, 20% for quarterly, and 15% for semi-annually.

Watch Gang Subscription Review

About Watch Gang

Watch Gang is what you get when you cross the subscription model popular among clothing and grooming brands with the need to stylishly know the time. The brand has received praise in a number of popular news outlets the likes of Esquire, BuzzFeed, Ask Men, Men’s Health, and we can’t forget the LA Times. When you line it all up, they’ve received a lot of praise for their luxurious take on the subscription box.

Watch Gang Subscription Review

This Watch Gang subscription review will look past the magazines at what the customers are saying as well as a selection of products and prices. By the end, hopefully you’ll be able to decide if Watch Gang is right for you.

Overview of Watch Gang

Matthew Gallagher founded Watch Gang in 2016 with the goal of introducing the uninitiated into the great watch world and giving veterans the opportunity of increasing their collection. Gallagher had always enjoyed watches but he saw them as a way to accessorize an outfit, devoid of their own real emotional significance. Then his father, who sadly passed away, willed him a 1953 Rolex. It instantly became a cherished heirloom.

The goal of Watch Gang is to let others develop relationships with their watches similarly to Gallagher, as either prized possessions or accessories to enjoy. Watch Gang sends its subscribers new watches monthly for as many months as they want. They want to mimic that surprise that Gallagher felt when receiving the Rolex that meant so much to him, so the watch you receive each month is a mystery.

Watch Gang Subscription Review

In addition, they offer 5 weekly giveaways live on the Watch Gang Facebook and Instagram where you can receive a watch or subscription for free. This Watch Gang subscription review will be tuning in for Rolex Fridays

The Los Angeles-based company has grown in popularity, shipping across the world. They offer tiers of subscription with the more expensive options giving you the chance to receive more high end watches. Watch Gang guarantees the watches you receive are valued higher than the monthly subscription fee.

Watch Gang also offers two other purchase options: the Wheel of Watches and the Member Store. The former is essentially a Watch roulette wheel. You buy points, select a handful of watches from different tiers, and then take a spin to see which one you get. The latter is a straightforward store but you have to be a member to access it.

Watch Gang Subscription Review

Let’s look at the highlights of this Watch Gang subscription review:

Pros

  • Easy to increase your watch options
  • You get to keep all the watches, which is not a given in the watch subscription world
  • Can receive a watch valued far higher than what you pay
  • Exposes you to a wide range of watch styles and brands
  • Ships worldwide
  • Other purchasing options if you prefer more control
  • Shipping receives positive reviews

Cons

  • Thanks to the mystery element, it could be seen as a steep price to pay for something you might not like
  • The Watch Gang Reddit community raises a number of question marks over the valuations
  • International shipping can be very costly
  • No returns or refunds if you don’t like a watch
  • No sizing options so those with very large or very small wrists will have to have them resized

How Does Watch Gang Work?

Watch Gang Subscription Review

Once you’ve signed up for Watch Gang, you can choose between the Original, Black, or Platinum subscription tiers. You sign up for automatically renewing month-to-month payment or you can prepay for either 3, 6, or 12 months with progressive discounts. You’ll receive a first watch shipped within 3 days and then you fall into the usual pattern of having your watch shipped by the 16th of every month.

Watch Gang Watches

So what can you expect with Watch Gang? Well, a lot. This Watch Gang subscription review will take a look at just a selection of the watches you might find in the coming months and some you might win in a giveaway if you’re lucky.

  • Martenero Edgemere Reserve
  • Fortuna Michael
  • Dreyfuss & Co 1890 Rose Gold
  • Tag Heuer Autavia
  • Rolex GMT Master II

Martenero Edgemere Reserve

Watch Gang Subscription Review
Martenero Edgemere Reserve
Watch Gang Platinum Tier

The Martenero Edgemere Reserve in the white-blue color scheme can be found in the Platinum Tier subscription. We’re really putting our best foot forward here, as this Watch Gang subscription review loves this watch. It has a very nautical theme, which makes sense–it’s inspired by the marine chronometer.

The red band of the Watch Gang Martenero Edgemere Reserve is understated compared to some of the larger, shiny metal bands but the bold color still gives it a pop. The watch face manages to pack in hour markers, minute markers, a 24-hour subdial, and a date window while still maintaining a clean look, thanks to a deep blue and white color scheme with subtle red and blue accent colors.

On the Martnero site, it sells for $695, although Watch Gang gets their valuations from the best available non-sale retail price. If it shows up in your Platinum Tier subscription it’ll cost $300. Ahoy! There are some good savings yonder starboard.

Fortuna Michael

Watch Gang Subscription Review
Fortuna Michael
Watch Gang Black Tier

Available in the Black Tier subscription, the Fortuna Michael is part of Fortuna’s Taurus series. The sporty and stylish features a black face accented by a stainless steel case with white lettering and stitching. The band is handmade calfskin leather while the glass over the face is reflection-resistant. It can look a bit busy, but that’s part of the look, and the numerals stand out to keep it practical.

The German-made watch retails for €249 on Fortuna’s site. No conversion is necessary to see the savings of finding it in the $100 Black Tier subscription. It’s a strong deal for a versatile watch that suits both casual and dressy settings.

Dreyfuss & Co 1890 Rose Gold

Watch Gang Subscription Review
Dreyfuss & Co 1890 Men’s Rose Gold
Watch Gang Platinum Tier

The Watch Gang Dreyfuss & Co 1890 Men’s Rose Gold gets more and more elegant the closer you get. The handmade Swiss watch features a leather strap differentiated by the intricacies of a crocodile pattern. It’s very nice but the eye is sooner drawn to the dial. A simplistic look becomes quite sophisticated with the silver-white face and the rose gold adornments. From the case to the hands to the numeral-less markers, the rose gold contains a variety of angles so parts catch the light while others wait their turn in the shadows.

The date marker gives it a nice touch of simple practicality and the Dreyfuss & Co label and minute dashes in are there without drawing too much attention. It’s close to the upper end of the Platinum Tier price range at $1,100, so if you have the fortune of finding it in your Platinum delivery, you’ll be saving around $800.

Tag Heuer Autavia

Watch Gang Subscription Review
Tag Heuer Autavia
Watch Gang Tag Tuesday

The Autavia Collection is Tag Heuer’s oldest, and they say their most precise as well. It has to be, as it got its start in the cockpits of airplanes and cars. The brown leather strap with white stitching dresses down the sleek black dial and silver case. To better help those pilots, the numerals are prominent on the edge with easily noticed hands rotating around atop three handy subdials.

Speaking of flying high, the winner of the Tag Tuesday Giveaway will be too. This edition of the Tag Heuer Autavia is the prize for the August 25, 2020 edition of the weekly draw. It is possible to receive Tag watches in the Platinum Tier subscription, but for a collection that retails for around $4,000 on the Tag Heuer site, this one is going to be exclusive to the giveaway. Fingers crossed!

Rolex GMT Master II

We’ve saved the Rolex GMT Master II for last in this Watch Gang subscription review. Rolex calls it the cosmopolitan watch and for good reason. It features a 24-hour dial and the ability to track two time zones at once. It was originally designed in 1955 for those who had to frequently travel back and forth across different time zones. The blue-red split is there to designate night-time and daytime.

While you can get it in different colors today, the classic provides a nice touch of color around the edge so this Watch Gang subscription review is thrilled they’ve opted for the original. This is the Rolex available for the August 28, 2020 Rolex Friday Giveaway. The models rotate so it will be a different Rolex next week. At just shy of $35,000, you won’t find it in a box but only in the Friday lottery.

Watch Gang Pricing

Watch Gang Subscription Review

So how much is Watch Gang? The three tiers are priced as follows:

  • Original Tier ($50/month)
  • Black Tier ($100/month)
  • Platinum Tier ($300/month)

There are progressive discounts for prepaying for either 3, 6, or 9 months. If you’re an international customer, keep in mind some discounts may not apply due to increased shipping costs.

Watch Gang says every watch you receive retails for at least the fee of your monthly subscription but can be far higher. Watches in the Original Tier range from $50-$150 and are great for the beginning collector and everyday wear. The Black Tier ranges from $100-$500 made up of affordable luxury watches great for everyday wear.

The Platinum Tier is Watch Gang’s high end subscription ranging in value from $300-$1500, comprising premium watches that you can wear everyday and for special occasions. Those more expensive ones are rare, but exciting to get. Enough to make this Watch Gang subscription review’s day.

Watch Gang Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Watch Gang Subscription Review

This Watch Gang subscription review took a look at some of the pieces Watch Gang advertises as coming soon. Clearly, there are some good deals to be had. Those making a Watch Gang review on their site and in popular news outlets praise the variety of watches, the introductions to brands they didn’t know, and the fun and ease of building a collection. However, there are concerns too.

Reddit has some heated debates on the question is Watch Gang legit? Some users have been critical of the value of Watch Gang watches. While you can get watches like the ones featured here, it is far more common to receive watches closer to the base subscription price. Some Reddit users even suggest Watch Gang watches come in under value. Users say they work around it by using fancy valuation tricks to be able to say watches have a higher value than they do. Watch Gang denies this and gives their methods of valuation in their FAQs.

A lot of the issues, it seems in Watch Gang’s view, is people looking at old valuations, offers on eBay, or sales that don’t reflect market value. This seems to be more of an issue at the Original Tier where the lower end of the price range represents a fairly cheap watch in the grand scheme of things, so there are more quality issues than at other tiers. There is also no ability to give your size for Watch Gang though watch sizes are adjustable and fit most people close to the average.

This Watch Gang subscription review gives them credit for having more positive reviews of the shipping than negative. This is quite rare for subscription boxes as good shipping largely goes unnoticed, while bad is instantly brought up, so good on Watch Gang for this.

Is Watch Gang Worth It?

Watch Gang Subscription Review

We’ll be honest in this Watch Gang subscription review. Watch Gang seems to maybe not be as great for the beginner as it wants to be. The complaints regarding quality and value at that level are a touch worrying and it might not be the best idea to make a sizeable investment to buy a bunch of something you’re just getting used to. Also, if you’re picky, receiving watches at random might not be the best option for you.

On the other hand, if you’re a lover of watches or certain you want to be, Watch Gang does give you a fun way to quickly build up your collection and get what seems to be more often than not good value. Basically, a Watch Gang Black or Watch Gang Platinum review would be more positive than a Watch Gang Original one. For the watch connoisseur, aspiring or fully fledged, it looks like a worthy investment.

Watch Gang Promotions & Discounts

Watch Gang offers a 20% discount for your first watch at the Black Tier. If you’re sure you want more months too, you can get more discounts for prepaying.

Loot Crate Subscription Review

About Loot Crate

Loot Crate Subscription Review

Loot Crate was created to excite a wide range of fans, sending loot boxes full of unique pop culture merchandise to their customers at regular intervals. The box subscription is curated for gamers and nerds, so if you’re one or both, you’ve come to the right place.

Once named America’s fastest growing company by Inc. in 2016, Loot Crate fell on hard times and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2019. They’ve since bounced back and resumed shipping their variety of loot boxes to 29 countries around the world.

This Loot Crate subscription review will look at Loot Crate’s products, prices, promotions, and what the fans are saying to help you decide if you should join the Loot Crate community.

Overview of Loot Crate

Founded by Chris Davis and Matthew Arevalo in 2012, Loot Crate started with the purpose of giving fans another way to enjoy the things they love. There’s a reason this Loot Crate subscription review is being so vague on which fandoms Loot Crate serves: there are SO many. There are 21 different boxes to choose from, many of which feature products from a diverse range of film, book, television, comic, or gaming series so whatever you’re into, Loot Crate probably has it.

The loot boxes are designed to be a fun and exciting surprise. You might have a vague idea of what will be in the box, like you might know there will be a Batman shirt, but you’ll never know exactly what everything will look like. Plus Loot Crate likes to throw in little surprises like a crate that turns into a proton pack (!). This Loot Crate subscription review didn’t even know we had that technology.

It’s all to let fans enjoy (and nerd out on) what they love, and this Loot Crate subscription review loves that. The boxes arrive like gifts and Loot Crate welcomes all feedback so that they make sure they’re giving their customers the gifts they want. The Loot Crate community gradually grew and grew but then, in 2019, they hit some difficulties that left Loot Crate bankrupt.

Loot Crate Bankruptcy

In August 2019, Loot Crate filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, disclosing $30 million in debts and a further $20 million in customer orders that were yet to be shipped. They sold to a lender, Money Chest LLC who provided $10 million in funding to help Loot Crate through the process of bankruptcy. They came out the other side and resumed shipping loot boxes.

This process surely took a toll on them and they need buy-in from fans, so if Loot Crate sounds like something you would like, it might be worth signing up to give them the boost. There are also some deals to be had as they look to entice customers.

Pros

  • A unique subscription overall and with respect to the individual merchandise
  • It’s hard to judge the price of such a unique product but Loot Crate generally (not always) lists a crate value that is generally $10-$15 more than the crate price
  • Great for collectors
  • Fans leaving a Loot Crate subscription review love the experience
  • Wide range of crates to choose from
  • It really sounds like a lot of fun

Cons

  • If you don’t like everything in the box, the price starts to look pretty large in a hurry
  • It’s all collectibles and clothing (you’re not going to receive the movie, or the game, etc.) so it is a bit of a niche product
  • There were a ton of concerns around crate quality and shipping delays around the time of the bankruptcy
  • The return policy is vague at best

How Does Loot Crate Work?

Loot Crate Subscription Review

We’ll get into Loot Crate boxes in the next section, but first, a breakdown of the subscription process:

  1. Pick the crate you want
  2. Select how long you want to subscribe for (subscriptions are generally for 1, 3, 6, or 12 months and come either monthly, bi-monthly, or quarterly depending on which one you choose)
  3. Select your shirt size, shoe size, and waist size (depending on which ones are necessary for your crate)
  4. Input your shipping address, pay, and check out
  5. Receive your crate and enjoy

There is also the option to skip a month on certain boxes if you’re going to be away, or aren’t a huge fan of that month’s box. This just pushes your billing date back to the next month. You can only skip on monthly boxes.

Loot Crate Boxes

Now to the good stuff. There are four categories of Loot Crate boxes:

There are a number of options within each of these categories. Each Loot Box contains merchandise that is only available in that Loot Box and cannot be purchased afterwards. It’s all to add to the excitement of receiving the box and increase the collectability.

Pop Culture

The Pop Culture Box is perhaps the riskiest but also the biggest surprise. There’s a lot that can fit under the umbrella of pop culture and Loot Crate aims to fit most of it. In lieu of giving one show or movie to organize around, each Pop Culture Box is organized around a theme. For example, the current (up until September 9, 2020) box is the TRAVELERS box containing items from Doctor Strange, Star Trek, and Back to the Future.

The only featured product advertised is a Forward Temporal Demodulation Coil from Back to the Future. If the Pop Culture Box is something you would be interested in, you probably know way more about what that is than this Loot Crate subscription review, so we’re going to pass it by. In the past there have been other items like a mini Frodo figure in a Loot Crate Lord of the Rings edition.

The LootCrate box is the original but the Pop Culture category has others. LootCrate DX is an amplified version of the original with more items and a different theme. Currently, it is a medley of Venom, Black Widow, Beetlejuice, and Fallout.

LootAnime is the Anime box (currently My Hero Academia). LootFright has a horror theme (currently A Clockwork Orange). Finally there is LootSci-Fi, which is currently Back to the Future and I can’t be sure but it looks like you get a model of the Delorean!

The unique thing about the Pop Culture category is the LootWear box, containing just a single article of clothing (price depends on which article), and the LootRemix box, containing a selection of past items. It’s the only way to get old items new, but it’s a lottery if you’re looking for a specific one.

Pricing and billing schedule for the Pop Culture Box options are as follows:

The Pop Culture Box has less of a single theme but they do offer you a variety of merchandise. It’s a little high-risk, high-reward. Some boxes may disappoint while others delight. They also offer options Loot Crate Anime and horror options that are unavailable elsewhere. On the other hand, if you love the idea of Loot Crate but aren’t sure about which series you want, the Pop Culture Box is the way to go.

Film + TV

The Film + TV category has more specialized boxes. Each is organized around a single franchise and each box has a theme loosely within that franchise. As an example, the current Harry Potter Loot Crate has a Room of Requirement theme. The current Marvel Gear + Goods box’s theme is the favourite of this Loot Crate subscription review. It’s Yellow, where – you guessed it – the products are yellow.

The non-Pop Culture categories are newer and as such, it’s hard to tell how long Loot Crate will be able to keep up the more specific boxes but the Film + TV Box options have fairly wide-reaching themes. Maybe a Lord of the Rings Loot Crate will appear again in the future.

With their prices per box and shipping schedule, the options in the Film + TV category are:

The positive of the Film + TV Box options is you have a better idea of what you’re getting. So if you’re a big fan of any of these franchises, you can look forward to such products as the Deadpool Maximum Effort Gym Bag or a scarf from one of the Hogwarts houses in the Wizarding World Loot Crate.

Gaming

The Gaming category offers something similar to the Film + TV category but in gaming. There are four focussed on individual gaming franchises. You can expect boxes organized around the shops of Tamriel in Mercantile from The Elder Scrolls Loot Crate, or a Radscorpion figure from the Fallout Loot Crate

There’s also a generic LootGaming Box that gives gaming fans the unpredictability of the Pop Culture boxes. Past options have included a Halo Loot Crate. Currently, it has a Schooled! theme, where you can find an exclusive Apex Legends mug. It says in large letters on one side, You got schooled! So if you school someone, the mug can tell them for you!

There was an Equip box but Loot Crate ended it. It will soon become the Destiny crate. The Wizkids Games option is unique as you receive a new game (card or board) each time instead of collectibles. This Loot Crate subscription review doesn’t have the details on that but the Gaming crates are as follows:

You have options within the Gaming category. If you have a favorite, by all means, get the favorite, but you can also opt for the suspense of the general LootGaming Box, if you’re feeling daring.

Limited Edition

The Limited Edition Box gives you something a little different. You know all the crates in advance, and you can pay for them monthly, or all up front which gives you a bonus item or two.

The Universal Monsters Loot Crate gives you four boxes each containing a mask: Creature from the Black Lagoon, Phantom of the Opera, Frankenstein, and The Mummy. Get all four and you’ll also receive a mask from both The Wolfman, and Dracula to achieve that dreamed-of completed set.

The Limited Edition Box doesn’t have regular shipping intervals as it depends on when you purchase them. The four current options in the Limited Edition are:

  • Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Sold Out)
  • Universal Monsters ($50)
  • The Fresh Prince ($55)
  • Pixar ($50)

These are only available on Loot Crate for a limited time so you have to keep track to make sure you get the one you want, but they offer very interesting products with a cool bonus. So if you see one you like, make sure to jump on it.

Loot Crate Pricing

The prices listed are all if you buy just one box. Loot Crate offers discounts if you subscribe for more boxes. These discounts vary but are generally fairly understated. The Limited Edition boxes offer no discount.

Elsewhere, you can get discounts on either just the longest subscription or progressively. The discounts fall in the range of $2-$5 per month and you get a bonus item with select longer subscriptions.

Loot Crate Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Loot Crate Subscription Review

Imagine receiving a box of collectibles for something you really love and that excitement is what customers report both on their site and in the Reddit Loot Crate reviews. Customers love the surprise of receiving the boxes and the unique products they contain. It all sounds like an extremely fun experience to this Loot Crate subscription review.

However, there have been some concerns. In critical Loot Crate Reddit reviews, there are two main areas of complaint: shipping and quality. The shipping complaints are easy to diagnose. They come mainly from around the time Loot Crate was struggling with debt and fell behind on their shipments. Otherwise, there are still some shipping complaints but they’re rare. Loot Crate does give a wide range (10-15 days) for when shipments arrive, so if one comes at the start of the window and the next comes at the end, there could be some frustration.

The quality is a separate issue. It again starts around the time Loot Crate started struggling, but the complaint is more that the quality decreased, boxes contained fewer items than expected, and items repeated, which frustrates those who like how exclusive the items are. It seems like this has improved with Loot Crate’s finances, but it’s worth being a little cautious.

Is Loot Crate Worth It?

Loot Crate Subscription Review

Overall, Loot Crate is a bit of a niche product. It’s for the enjoyment of fans, those who geek out, to borrow Loot Crate’s term, on the things in the crates. It’s not a negligible investment so you need to be sure it’s something you’d like, but if so, this Loot Crate subscription review concludes that it seems like a great way to get an exciting surprise each month, two months, or three.

Loot Crate Promotions & Discounts

Students get a discount and you can also purchase a $20 Welcome Crate ($60 value) when you join. This is accessed through the Loot Crate vault. There is also 20% off when you level up a subscription (extend it) and plenty of contests for giveaways.

Scotch Porter Review

About Scotch Porter

Scotch Porter Review

Scotch Porter is a USA-based personal grooming brand that aims to give men effective, safe, and affordable products to enhance their manscaping experience. Created by a former barber, Scotch Porter offers products for beard, hair, and skin.

This Scotch Porter review will look at all three lines, their prices, and what customers are saying, to help you determine if Scotch Porter would be a good buy for you.

Overview of Scotch Porter

Scotch Porter launched in 2015 under the leadership of Calvin Quallis. Earlier, Quallis left a corporate job to open a barbershop, following in his mother’s footsteps. Naturally, Quallis heard a lot from customers about their issues with their hair, beards, and notorious and razor burn.

In an effort to alleviate these problems, Quallis began experimenting in his kitchen with homemade solutions. He made sure to only use safe, non-toxic ingredients, and from these experiments, Scotch Porter was born. As far as origin stories go, this is about as wholesome as it gets.

Scotch Porter Review

The Scotch Porter grooming collection has evolved to include lines dedicated to hair, beard, and skin care that deliver worldwide. Scotch Porter grooming products and can be found in leading department stores including Target and Walmart. Scotch Porter hasn’t strayed far from their origins, continuing to manufacture their products in the United States.

Scotch Porter is proud of their 100% black employee workforce and team of executives, 45% of whom are women. We give the brand major points for being progressive, encouraging black representation in the workforce, and taking a stand against sexism. Black Lives Matter and feminism game STRONG.

Scotch Porter also expanded their grooming scope to focus on men’s health. Their blog (or journal as they call it) and Instagram both encourage men to take care of their mental health alongside their physical appearance. Scotch Porter has also lent awareness to the #DaretoCare campaign confronting the problems of toxic masculinity. Hats off to Scotch Porter on being progressive, yet again.

Scotch Porter Review

Will Scotch Porter give you the confidence you’re looking for in your appearance? Let’s take a look at the highlights:

Pros

  • Customers generally rate the hair, skin, and especially the beard products favourably
  • Committed to giving chances to under-represented demographics
  • Uses safe, non-toxic ingredients
  • Skin care collection is very reasonably priced
  • Available for delivery and in stores
  • Ships worldwide
  • 60-day full refund policy with a 100% satisfaction guarantee

Cons

  • There have been some issues with deliveries, especially through Amazon
  • The criticisms in a Scotch Porter review often cite ineffectiveness for people with dry hair
  • Scotch Porter never specifies whether women can use the products (the line is geared entirely towards men)
  • Beard and hair products have above average pricing, though they’re not expensive
  • No international returns

Scotch Porter Sets

Scotch Porter Review

Within Scotch Porter’s beard, hair, and skin collections, you have the option of purchasing items individually or buying them in a variety of sets, each with a discount. This Scotch Porter review will focus on their three most popular sets:

  1. Beard Collection: $62, savings of $11 over buying each product individually
  2. Superior Hair Collection: $60, savings of $19
  3. Face Care Collection: $29, savings of $6

Scotch Porter Beard Review

Each of Scotch Porter’s collections has its own unique scent profile that really would be hard to describe without using Scotch Porter’s words. The Beard Collection has a masculine but floral blend of carnation, with subtle notes of sandalwood, powdery musk and spicy undertones.

In this Scotch Porter review, we’re imagining a garden outside a chalet somewhere European in the valley between two mountains, or at least large hills. But we’re willing to listen to other interpretations.

The Beard Collection has the aim of moisturizing and softening the beard while encouraging healthy hair and thicker growth. To accomplish this, it relies on the key ingredients of Biotin Liposomes, Burdock Root, White Willow Bark, and Nettle Leaf.

If you’re wondering what all these do, don’t worry, this Scotch Porter review has you covered: In short, Biotin makes hair stronger, Burdock strengths the roots and reduces itching, White Willow reduces flaking and dry skin, while Nettle Leaf is full of vitamins to make hair shinier and healthier

The Beard Collection contains four products:

  • Beard Wash: individually $19 for 8 oz.
  • Beard Conditioner: $19 for 7.1 oz.
  • Beard Balm: $15
  • Beard Serum: $20

The Wash goes in first, followed by the Conditioner. If you’re wondering how often should I use the Scotch Porter Beard Conditioner? They suggest conditioning up to 3x a week. The Balm and Serum are a little less rigid, a little more as-needed, but Scotch Porter does suggest using them after the washing and conditioning.

Each product in the Scotch Porter beard kit contains, with the exception of serum, at least one of the four key ingredients we looked at earlier and others including Shea Butter and Aloe Vera. The Beard Serum relies on Avocado Seed Oil and Jojoba Seed Oil for moisture and nourishment.

The brand has a consistent look going in their products, and this Scotch Porter review wants to say it’s quiet, simple, yet stylish with its navy bottles, white caps, and labels that remain a consistent colour throughout each set. The gold writing gives it a little bit of an elegant pop. Intricate and stylish. It works.

Scotch Porter Hair Review

Scotch Porter’s Hair Collection has a scent profile with the cooling sophistication of natural herbaceous notes like Lavender and Bergamot coupled with Cardamom and soft Amber Woods. This one sounds like one of those fantasy forests in animated movies, the ones where everything glitters in the sunlight. Maybe Scotch Porter found it in real life.

The Hair Collection is advertised as working with all hair types to keep the scalp and hair healthy, moisturized, and non-oily. Scotch Porter returns to the White Willow Bark for its flake reduction and overall protection. Alongside it comes the frequent inclusion of Kale Protein keeping hair moisturized and looking healthy.

Scotch Porter’s Hair Collection includes five products:

  • Hydrating Hair Wash: $12
  • Nourish & Repair Hair Conditioner: $12
  • Moisture Rich Leave-In Hair Conditioner: $12
  • Smoothing Hair Balm: $15
  • Smooth & Shine Hair Serum: $20

As with the Beard Collection, there’s a loose order to the use of the Hair Collection, though the products can be used individually. The Serum is again an ingredient outlier: the Avocado Seed Oil returns but this time it’s paired with Argan Oil for its hydration, softness, and shine.

The bottles are almost identical to the Beard Collection, with grey labels to differentiate them in your bathroom cabinet.

Scotch Porter Skin Care Review

The scent of Scotch Porter’s Face Care Collection is described as natural West Coast citrus notes flow into a sultry spice infusion of Vetiver (Bourbon) on a rich blend of exotic wood-resins, like Palo Santo Wood and Alaskan Cedar. Upscale cottage weekend? This Scotch Porter review thinks so.

Scotch Porter advertises the Face Care Collection as an all encompassing line that makes skin smoother and clearer. White Willow Bark confirms its status as the Jack-of-all-trades with another appearance in the Face Care Collection’s key ingredients. It teams up with Pomegranate Enzymes and Turmeric Root for exfoliation and blemish resistance.

Three products make up Scotch Porter’s Face Care Collection:

  • Restoring Face Wash: $11
  • Exfoliating Face Scrub: $12
  • Moisture Defend Face Lotion: $12

Scotch Porter doesn’t specify the same production as the Beard and Hair Collections. They do say the Moisture Defend Face Lotion is the one that locks in the moisture from the first two, and should therefore be used following the use of one of the others. Which one you use depends on whether you need your skin exfoliated or restored.

Scotch Porter Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Scotch Porter Review

Reviews on the Scotch Porter site as well as Target and Walmart are generally quite positive. Customers find that Scotch Porter’s beard, hair, and skin products are confidence boosters and produce aesthetically pleasing results. They do what they’re advertised as doing.

If you’re asking the big question, does Scotch Porter make your beard grow? Some reviewers have said they’ve experienced significantly fuller beard growth while using Scotch Porter’s beard products. Scotch Porter’s scents also tend to come in for specific praise.

Reviews citing ineffectiveness are scarce but when they arise, they tend to be from people with dry hair. There are still many who say Scotch Porter has helped with dry hair, but maybe a word of caution is needed, especially since the brand is priced a little above average in the grooming market.

Scotch Porter Review

This Scotch Porter review gives a word of warning for Amazon deliveries. Scotch Porter doesn’t advertise that they sell through Amazon, but there are some products available there. These carry proportionally more negative reviews than elsewhere (though still positive overall) and the negatives tend to be more recent. They have questioned whether or not the Amazon products are actually Scotch Porter products.

Some reviewers, who have used Scotch Porter previously, say the products they receive from Amazon are nothing like the ones they used before, and it appears as if the seal has been broken. If this is scaring you, you’re not alone! This Scotch Porter review would recommend just buying from the brand, or verified sellers.

Is Scotch Porter Worth It?

Scotch Porter Review

On the whole, Scotch Porter looks like a good investment if you want a little more from your beard, hair, or skincare routines. It’s a little pricier than other grooming products out there, but it’s cheaper than the high-end options and seems to have upper end effects.

Scotch Porter has a 60-day full refund policy, so buying is relatively low risk, and we’ll get into this in the FAQ section of the Scotch Porter review.

Scotch Porter offers free standard shipping (1-7 business days) on US orders over $35. For domestic orders under $35, shipping costs $6. Costs for expedited shipping (1-3 business days) vary.

Scotch Porter ships to over 200 countries, so chances are they can ship to you but if you want to be sure, just input your address and the site will let you know. International shipping costs also vary as do shipping times but, as an idea, shipping to Canada is $15 and Scotch Porter say it usually comes out around $18. However, that does not include customs fees and duties, which can increase the price. Scotch Porter say to give international orders 30 days as customs can hold packages for a while.

OrthoFeet Shoes Review

About OrthoFeet

OrthoFeet is an orthopedic footwear company that offers men and women comfort and pain relief for 17 different ailments. The brand is committed to both high-quality solutions and top-notch customer service in the hopes that getting help with their products is as easy as walking in them.

This OrthoFeet shoes review will take a look at some of their popular footwear, promotions, customer reviews, and more, so that you can decide if OrthoFeet is the solution for you.

OrthoFeet Shoes Review

Overview of OrthoFeet

OrthoFeet started producing orthopedic shoes in 2000 but brothers Ron and Michael Bar established OrthoFeet Inc. in New Jersey way back in 1984. The origins are more traumatic than your average shoe company: Ron had lost his leg in the Yom Kippur war of 1973, and was unimpressed with the hassle and inaccuracy of the casting process used for orthodics. Ron struggled with his lack of mobility and discomfort for years as a veteran.

After receiving a doctorate in biomedical engineering, he and Michael, who has a master’s in mechanical engineering, teamed up to design insoles and foot orthodics that would mould to the patient’s foot. This would remove the need for the difficulties of the casting process and provide a more accurate and effective product.

OrthoFeet Shoes Review

16 years later, OrthoFeet took their experience with this patented technology and created a line of comfort orthopedic shoes. These are aimed to give fashionable comfort and support to people struggling with a range of issues:

  • Achilles tendon pain
  • Arthritis
  • Back pain
  • Ball of foot pain/Metatarsalgia
  • Bunions
  • Diabetes
  • Flat feet
  • Foot pain
  • Hammer toes
  • Heel pain/spurs
  • Knee & hip pain
  • Morton’s neuroma
  • Neuropathy
  • Overpronation
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Swollen feet/edema
  • Gout in foot

OrthoFeet Technology

So what is this orthodic tech? OrthoFeet’s line of comfort orthopedic shoes uses their patented Ortho-Cushion system. This features an orthodic insole made up of three layers. The top provides arch support with a malleable material that matches the anatomy of your foot.

The middle is a breathable layer that gives extra cushioning and the lower layer runs from the middle of the foot to the heel with a trampoline-like pad at the back to provide relief for heel pain. All this rests upon an ergonomic sole that rocks to absorb movements and support the foot.

OrthoFeet makes socks, insoles, and shoes for both men and women in a variety of styles, designed to target specific leg and foot ailments. This OrthoFeet shoes review will focus on a selection of their more popular footwear across both the men’s and women’s collections. Let’s dive in:

OrthoFeet Men’s Shoes

Men shopping for OrthoFeet shoes can look through six collections: sneakers/athletic, casual, dress, boots, sandals, and slippers. The athletic and casual sections have the most options, with the others having just a few each. Most OrthoFeet shoes for men are available in suede or full grain leather, with blacks and browns being the common color choices.

OrthoFeet’s MO with their shoes is a lot of padding in the sole, padding in the heel, and really just padding everywhere. This feature is great for comfort and pain relief, but it does have the side effect of making the shoes look less streamlined. Some models look downright bulky. There’s a bit of a trade-off when it comes to comfort and aesthetics.

Cambria Sandals

OrthoFeet Shoes Review
OrthoFeet Cambria Sandals

The Cambria Sandals, which also come in charcoal, are the closest OrthoFeet gets to regular sandals (the other options have more of a water shoe look to them). The Cambria is made from leather and uses OrthoFeet’s Ortho Cushion system, which is a constant.

The leather straps on the Cambria Sandals have a layer of cushioning on the bottom, combined with a stretching material to remove pressure points and increase comfort. They’re easy to put on and remove with a wide opening for your foot

These OrthoFeet sandals are great for walking around, doing errands, or going about your day when the weather’s hot and shoes just feel too constrained. The Cambria Sandals are priced at $119.95, which seems like a small price to pay for long-term relief. You can get this pair in medium (regular), wide, and extra wide.

Tacoma Walking Shoes

OrthoFeet Shoes Review
OrthoFeet Tacoma Walking Shoes

The Tacoma was designed to be a seriously comfortable walking shoe, and reviewers indicate that they’re great for running, as well. In addition to the standard Ortho Cushion system, the synthetic shoe has a stretchable padded upper to reduce pressure on the foot from above.

You can pull off a substantial sole on an athletic shoe better compared to casual or dress types—even with all the padded support, the Tacoma has a sleek and contemporary look with the all-white sole and black mesh upper.

The Tacoma walking shoe is only available in black and sells for $124.95, which is marginally lower than most orthopedic shoe brands. You can get these OrthoFeet shoes in medium (regular), wide, and extra wide.

Baton Rouge Boat Shoes

OrthoFeet Shoes Review
OrthoFeet Baton Rouge Boat Shoes

The Baton Rouge is one of OrthoFeet’s more modern designs, capitalizing on the consistently popular boat shoe. They’ve done fairly well with it, considering it has substantially more padding than the average boat shoe. The sand colour scheme blends the upper and sole parts of the leather shoe, so this extra padding is subtle.

These low-key Baton Rouge shoes are a nice casual option that maintains OrthoFeet’s comfort and support, while still maintaining the boat shoe design features (for the most part). The shoes are also available in a deeper brown with black accents, though this model calls more attention to the bulky heel.

The price of $135.95 puts the Baton Rouge shoes in pretty much the same tier relative to other orthopedic casual shoe options. These boat shoes are available in medium (regular), wide, and extra wide.

Lincoln Center Dress Shoes

OrthoFeet Shoes Review
OrthoFeet Lincoln Center Dress Shoes

With such famous features as the Metropolitan Opera House and the David Geffen Hall, the Lincoln Center is the place to see live music and opera in New York City. It’s all about class and elegance, which is what OrthoFeet was going for with the Lincoln Center dress shoes.

The buckle and subtle shine of the leather offer sophistication to the Lincoln Center shoes. The sole is a little more rounded than dress shoes tend to be, and OrthoFeet’s wide toe boxes are most noticeable in the dress shoe category. But again, with comfort being such a priority, it’s natural that these shoes look a bit different.

The big question is could you wear the Lincoln Center to the Lincoln Center? Well, it’s a big place with lots to see. It will put demands on your feet that OrthoFeet’s comfort and relief can answer. The Lincoln Center puts the Ortho Cushion system into a buckled dress shoe selling for $135.95, available in medium (regular), wide, and extra wide.

OrthoFeet Women’s Shoes

OrthoFeet’s shoes for women are available in eight categories, offering more type variety compared to the men’s line. Their collections include sneakers/athletic, casual, dress, boots, sandals, heels/pumps, Mary Janes, and slippers.

The women’s collection also features the patented Ortho Cushioning system, with a mix of synthetic and leather models. The trade off of losing sleekness to gain padding still remains, but that’s a debate for you to have.

Verona Sandals

OrthoFeet Shoes Review
OrthoFeet Verona Sandals

The Verona Sandals are OrthoFeet’s take on a comfortable walking sandal for women, with a feminine flare offered by the pewter metallic finish. This pair offers plenty of support with padding around the heel and in the upper resting on top of the cushioned sole. It’s designed primarily for function, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t stylish for a walking sandal.

We envision the Verona Sandals for a summer stroll along the boardwalk or while touring a new city on your travels. Would the Verona sandal look out of place in Verona? Well, it’s decidedly not a European look, but it’ll keep you from experiencing a painful stride that would put a damper on your exploring.

Selling for $119.95, the Verona is decently priced for a good quality orthopedic sandal. It’s only available in pewter, but you have your choice of medium (regular), wide, and extra wide to choose the fit that’s best for you.

Joelle Walking Shoes

OrthoFeet Shoes Review
OrthoFeet Joelle Walking Shoes

The Joelle has the look of a running shoe but it falls into both the athletic and casual categories, while it can benefit pain relief for long walks. It uses a strap instead of laces, available in black and silver—though the black is more versatile for outfit pairings, so this OrthoFeet shoes review will give it the edge.

As with the men’s category, the athletic shoes have the least problems combining style with the extra padding. It’s actually quite a modern shoe thanks to the mesh upper and synthetics. The Joelle walking shoe is decently priced at $124.95, and has an impressive width variety: you have the choice between medium, large, extra large, and extra extra large width.

Emma 2” Heeled Boots

OrthoFeet Shoes Review
OrthoFeet Emma 2″ Heeled Boots

The Emma 2” heeled booties are as subtle as they come with their orthodic padding. They masquerade as typical low-rise boots with unseen comfort. Wedge heels are generally more comfortable compared to a slimmer heel, but these boots offer next level relief with OrthoFeet technology

These OrthoFeet boots are easy to slip on and off with the elastic and zipper sides, while the buckle is an attractive aesthetic feature. The black leather has a subtle shine and will only complement your outfit, rather than being the main feature. The Emma 2” booties have a synthetic inner layer that adds extra padding, paired with a comfortable wide toe box.

The Emma high heel booties are priced at $129.50, which is expected for orthopedic tech, combined with quality leather. These OrthoFeet boots are available in medium and wide.

Chelsea Slip-On Shoes

OrthoFeet Shoes Review
OrthoFeet Chelsea Slip-On Shoes

The Chelsea is a classic women’s dress shoe, for ladies who just aren’t into wearing heels—The padded leather strap offers more comfort at the expense of being a delicate shoe, but it offers an attractive middle ground. They’re charming yet understated, with the Ortho technology and foot support needed to dance the night away, attend a dinner party, or wear to the office.

The Chelsea dress shoes also come in a glossy crocodile pattern, which makes more of a statement and infuses some edginess into the formal look. At $99.95, the price is definitely not exorbitant for a high-end leather dress shoe. These padded slip-on shoes come in medium, wide, extra wide, and extra extra wide.

OrthoFeet Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

OrthoFeet Shoes Review

Are OrthoFeet shoes good? That’s the main question of this OrthoFeet shoes review. Customers are positive about their effects: you can feel the relief coming through in many of them. Of course, shoes are a finicky area and there are some who find no benefit but, overall, there are a lot more both on OrthoFeet’s site and on Amazon who praise them highly.

The negatives more often focus on fit. OrthoFeet does have a handy note on each shoe as to whether you should order a size up or not, but many who leave a negative OrthoFeet shoes review seem to have struggled to find the right size. Another frequent complaint is that the toe-box, which OrthoFeet advertise as being wide, though reviewers state that it’s not quite wide enough. There is a 60-day wear test offered as well as free returns and exchanges so you do have the freedom to experiment.

As this OrthoFeet shoes review has mentioned frequently, there is a trade off in style for padding in a lot of the shoes. However, many customers are just so happy to be able to wear heels and dress shoes again that this is a secondary issue. Also, it’s really not the most serious issue in the world. They do a pretty good job, but there are other orthopedic shoe companies who also do a good job in this department.

Are OrthoFeet Shoes Worth It?

OrthoFeet Shoes Review

That’s the big question in this OrthoFeet shoes review. This footwear is designed to solve problems and they do a good job at that. Their usefulness then depends on your need to solve this problem. There are downsides but if the need is there, they’re worth a shot. Just be prepared for a little trial and error to find the right fit.
