About ASTR the Label

ASTR the Label Clothing Review

In my search for cute vacay-worthy looks, the results are often one of a three things: too young, too cheap, or too expensive. ASTR the Label is a happy middle round, offering gorgeous modern, contemporary style dresses, flirty tops, and ultra-chic wedding guest attire.

It’s the perfect blend of quality, class, and fun, the brand’s must-have collection making news in New York Magazine, Forbes, Vogue, Us Weekly, InStyle, and more. Followed by a loyal 146k fashionistas on Instagram, ASTR the Label has made a name for themselves as a trendy, LA-based online boutique.

In this ASTR the Label clothing review I will, yes, cover dresses, but also the overarching pros and cons of buying from the brand, analyze the bestsellers, customer reviews, and FAQs that might sway your decision on the company.

Overview of ASTR the Label

ASTR the Label Clothing Review

I couldn’t really find much on the brand’s background. Searches for the founder come up empty, as do searches for a parent company. What I do know is that ASTR the Label has been up and running and selling gorgeous dresses and other women’s clothes since 2012.

When you search through the store’s inventory, you’ll find dresses, tops, sweaters, bottoms, bodysuits, and other garments that give off feminine, contemporary, trendy, and utterly chic vibes

Another part of the brand’s signature style is versatility, creating looks that can be dressed up and down and side to side for various levels of formality. My first impression? Total it-girl style—but for late 20s to 30-somethings who don’t have a desire for for see-through panels and booty-bearing skirts.

Headquartered in Los Angeles, ASTR the Label is almost the epitome of an LA clothing brand: trendy and trend-setting, Instagram aesthetics, and a style targeted towards mainly young women.

Since there isn’t much background info I can find on the brand anyway, it’s time to move on to something more comprehensive: pros and cons.

Pros

  • Offers modern, contemporary clothes and wedding/bridesmaid dresses
  • Positive reviews of the clothes’ quality and style
  • Free returns
  • Rewards program available
  • International shipping
  • Financing options provided via Afterpay

Cons

  • No returns for international orders
  • Limited information available on the brand, founders, and origins
ASTR the Label Clothing Review

And that’s pretty much the highlights of what’s to come in this ASTR the Label dress review. Next, I’ll look at the products. Because the brand does sell products. Sort of their main schtick. Let’s look at dresses and things other than dresses so you get the Instagram picture of it all.

ASTR the Label Clothing Review

Items that are hot and popular transcend the metaphorical online dresses aisle. These pieces are popping off and embody the quintessential ASTR the Label vibe. Both of the stunners I’ll introduce you to next are available in sizes XS to XL.

ASTR the Label Cowl Drape Neck Bodysuit Review

With a low-cut back and spaghetti straps, the Cowl Drape Neck Bodysuit is a soft and sexy outfit-maker. Available in white or black polyester, this bodysuit is both classic and novel with the cowl neckline and relaxed fit.

I think it’s a great go-to for any season. Layer in the fall or rock it with bare shoulders in the sunny season. For a hassle-free top that goes great with a pair of skinny jeans, add it to your wardrobe arsenal for $49.

ASTR the Label Daphne Off Shoulder Sweater Review

This Daphne Off Shoulder Sweater is a soft, knitted, weave-patterned hug that isn’t afraid to show a bit of skin at the same time. Just a bit, though. Though it’s a sweater, I think it’s lightweight enough to work on chilly summer nights too.

Still sharp and fashionable even with its comfort factor, this white off-the-shoulder sweater is great for when you want to look put-together but also want to be just as cozy. Slip this baby on and boom, good to go for $58.

A similar comfort:style ratio can be found in the ASTR the Label Wrap Front Sweater, a  longer and looser style top.

ASTR the Label Dresses Review

Available in sizes XS to XL, dresses are the main star of the ASTR the Label show. May I present to you some best-selling dresses of various kinds, all showing off the brand’s trendy-but-chic signature look?

ASTR the Label Sonnet Puff Sleeve Midi Dress Review

The Sonnet Puff Sleeve Midi Dress is old-timey, flowy, and classically feminine. It’s available in 7 colors, of which I feel the lighter ones scream “running through a field of daisies” and the darker ones are more formal yet still feminine.

The ASTR the Label Sonnet Dress is a frilly, ruffly mid-length dream with puffed short sleeves and a slightly cinched waistline. Find your perfect prairie girl look in this for $148

Alternatively, I’d suggest adding some strappy heels and a bit of jewelry to create the perfect blend of old and new.

ASTR the Label Lace A Line Midi Dress Review

Calling all brides and fans of white dresses: the Lace A Line Midi Dress is here for you.

Adjustable spaghetti straps and a back zipper make this one easy to slip into for your bridal shower or any other formal-but-not-full-on-wedding event.

I adore the delicately gorgeous floral lace and think the V-neckline complements the sought-after elegance that much more. This 100% polyester ASTR the Label lace midi dress can be all yours for only $89.

If you like the lace and femininity but not the formality, go to the dark side with the ASTR the Label Vivian Black Lace Bodycon Dress—it’s shorter, tighter, sexier, and, yup, darker.

ASTR the Label Rabia Puff Sleeve Mini Dress Review

The cotton Rabia Puff Sleeve Mini Dress is a classic but sexy little ensemble in white.

With 3/4 length sleeves (puffy edition), a straight neckline, a skater dress skirt, and side pockets, I think this mini would be an adorable staple for so many events.

For $128, you can style this dress to be subtle with some nude heels or go all out and add a pop of color with some stylish footwear and a purse. The choices are endless when it comes to this mini dress.

ASTR the Label Smocked Waist Ruched Dress Review

A snap-worthy floral pattern adorns this gorgeous Smocked Waist Ruched Dress. It’s multicolored but you’ll mostly see yellow, pink, and white—it’s practically begging me to wear it on the first day of spring.

With a straight neckline, loose long sleeves, ruffled skirt, and a revealing back with ties, this flowery, golden dress is $79 for the taking.

ASTR the Label Filomena Cowl Neck Mini Dress Review

Choose from 4 colors with the Filomena Cowl Neck Mini Dress, including black, coral, gold, and ivory, each rocking totally different vibes. I love how each hue gives this dress its own special aesthetic. While black can be rock-chic, coral is fresh and flirty.

The cowl neckline, combined with the thin straps and mini-length skirt (with a mini cutout on the bottom to match) makes this dress sexy, feminine, and fun. This pull-on style dress is made from 100% polyester and is ready to go when you are.

Twirl around and watch your skirt dance with you for $88.

ASTR the Label Desi Off Shoulder Eyelet Dress Review

The white, lacy Desi Off Shoulder Eyelet Dress has girly ruffles on the skirt and a slightly cinched waist to flatter your figure—whatever your figure is.

I can’t get enough of the little holes in the eyelet pattern that add fine detail to the piece, turning it from a boring white slip-on to a sophisticated look. This ASTR the Label dress goes for $128.

Who Is ASTR the Label For?

ASTR the Label Clothing Review

After scoping out the brand for this ASTR the Label clothing review, I found that the brand is targeted towards young to middle-aged women, mostly younger women.

The Shop Instagram section on the site is practically all you need to see that the brand is trendy and fresh—not for an older crowd nor for kids—plus the designs and models are youthful and feminine. That being said, there’s no age limit for looking and feeling good.

Comparison: ASTR the Label vs. & Other Stories

ASTR the Label Clothing Review

Okay, that’s all fine and well, but ASTR the Label needs to prove themselves worthy against other competitors in the market, like Other Stories. The brands are similar, sure, but with these lists, I’ll sort out the differences to help you decide which is your style.

Firstly, ASTR the Label and & Other Stories both have:

  • Romantic, classic styles
  • A target audience of young-to-middle-aged adult women
  • High-end prices
  • International shipping

But here’s what & Other Stories does differently:

  • More basic styles and essentials
  • Does not sell wedding wear
  • Has a larger variety of items, including jewelry, swimwear, beauty, and bags
  • Less feminine

If you’re looking for a more basic, everyday brand for young women of varying levels of conventional femininity, I think & Other Stories is worth checking out. If not, carry on with ASTR the Label for the modern girly girl.

ASTR the Label Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

ASTR the Label Clothing Review

No ASTR the Label clothing review would be complete without taking a look at what customers have to say about the brand and their products. Come along as I go through the buyer testimonials on the brand site, Amazon, and Nordstrom.

Firstly, the brand site. Positive. Very positive. See for yourself the star ratings for some of the products I analyzed above:

  • Cowl Drape Neck Bodysuit: 4.9/5 stars from 25 ratings
  • Sonnet Puff Sleeve Midi Dress: 4.8/5 stars from 38 ratings
  • Lace A Line Midi Dress: 4.9/5 stars from 7 ratings
  • Rabia Puff Sleeve Mini Dress: 4.7/5 stars from 7 ratings
  • Smocked Waist Ruched Dress: 4.8/5 stars from 16 ratings
  • Filomena Cowl Neck Mini Dress: 4.8/5 stars from 15 ratings
  • Desi Off Shoulder Eyelet Dress: 4.7/5 stars from 20 ratings

Negative reviews are extinct on the brand site. The most critical you’ll find are positive reviews with a little tidbit of disappointment, such as this review of the Smocked Waist Ruched Dress:

The material doesn’t have much stretch on the bottom, but other than that I love it! Very flattering.”

See? Still a positive review, but one con, the lack of stretchiness. Most of the reviews on the brand site are glowing, as customers deemed their new dress a “show stopper,” “versatile,” and size-inclusive.

This ASTR the Label clothing review of the Filomena Cowl Neck Mini Dress had one self-proclaimed curvy girl feeling oh-so-gorgeous:

I was a little nervous on how the fabric would fall and if it would be as unforgiving as some/most satin dresses are. However, trying it on I was so happy. It is fully lined, adjustable straps, and so flattering! The split hem and seem near the bottom region makes this so comfortable.

When you visit the store on Amazon, most customers love the brand’s dresses and tops, calling them great value, “very flattering,” true to size, “comfortable,” and “perfect for so many occasions.”

The Sleeveless Lace Fit & Flare Midi Dress had an overall 4/5 stars from 420 ratings. A raving ASTR the Label clothing review reads:

I LOVE this dress! I own it in several colors. The fit and length are just right. I receive so many compliments when I wear it. Amazing quality for the price.”

The naysayers responsible for the loss of 1 star in the average rating were unhappy with the product mostly because it was too small, the “material is stiff” and incredibly unstretchy, and the dress or its zipper broke soon after purchase.

I feel it’s important to include the whole spectrum of experiences when it comes to ASTR the Label and their apparel, but by and large customers have been amazed and satisfied with what they bought.

Nordstrom sells a bunch of ASTR the Label clothes that receive decent customer ratings on the site, usually around 4 stars, sometimes in the 3s. Most items are rated true to size, but some are too small.

The positive comments customers made about the dresses and tops were that they were “classic and comfortable” while still being modern, made of “lightweight, nice material, affordable, and “easy to dress up or down,” so you can get your money’s worth.

One customer who wrote an ASTR the Label clothing review on Nordstrom was ecstatic about the fit—just take a look:

This is a very flattering, sexy dress! I am curvy-ish so sometimes slip dresses don’t flatter me, but this one gathers at the waist and hangs off the hips very nicely. This is a wardrobe staple!

In the end, customer reviews are glowing. Sadly, there were no reviews to be found on customer service and the online ordering process, but if you trust the brand on their product quality (as most customers do), then you can trust the humans behind the clothes, right?

When there were criticisms, they were about dresses and tops fitting too small, but still, these were outnumbered by the customers who swore by the great value you are getting with good quality apparel for great prices.

Is ASTR the Label Worth It?

ASTR the Label Clothing Review

After everything I’ve learned in this ASTR the Label clothing review, I can’t help but say, yes, the brand is worth it. They are on the pricier side, sure, but not too pricey and most customers are big, big fans of the quality and call the clothes a good deal if anything.

The modern, feminine styles are unique, fashion-forward, and chic. With all that in mind, the sheer number of satisfied customers means this brand gets two enthusiastic thumbs up from me.

Many of ASTR the Label’s clothes are made in China.

Does ASTR the Label run true to size?

According to the customer ratings I investigated in this ASTR the Label clothing review, the brand clothes fit true to size.

But negative reviews on Amazon and Nordstrom say otherwise, claiming many of the dresses are too small and anti-stretch. Check out the size charts and go a size up if you want to be extra careful about receiving a dress that is too small.

ASTR has the WORST customer service

Experience

I will never buy from ASTR again. I purchased a dress from ASTR for my sister’s wedding through Facebook, as they were offering a coupon. I wound up exchanging the dress once and then ultimately returning it as neither size fit right. Instead of giving me my money back, they gave me store credit, despite sending the dress back well within the 28-day period stated on their website. I tried contacting them via email and never received a response. I sent two messages through their website contact form, and still nothing. I called them and the customer service representative I spoke to said I would receive a refund and email confirming it by that Monday. Neither the refund or email came. I then received an email response from one of the forms I had filled out and a new customer service representative seemed confused about how to issue a refund since it was a Facebook shop order and said he would work on it. I also contacted Facebook’s customer service for the shop and after several weeks of talking in circles with a bot I gave up trying to get in touch with a human. After dealing with all of this for over a month, I received this useless message from ASTR: “Due to a system error with our integrated Facebook platform, I am unable to process the refund to the original payment.” Now I’m out $170 because their customer service team doesn’t know how to do their job. Never shopping there again.
