About Autonomous

Autonomous ErgoChair Pro Review

One of the most viral research topics is about the relationship between posture, comfort, and productivity. Studies such as this one found positive correlations between how much work an employee completes and their posture. We can see those findings reflected in the Autonomous ErgoChair Pro, a chair that takes care of your body so you can feel and perform your best.

Before I get into the meat and potatoes of my Autonomous ErgoChair Pro review, I should give you some context. Autonomous is a New York-based company with a short but renowned resume. They focus on creating solutions for problems customers face in today’s workplace. These problems include uncomfortable backs, cheap products, flimsy chairs, and unproductive workdays.

Autonomous began as a crowdfunding success story, earning more than $400,000 on IndieGoGo and Kickstarter for their SmartDesk in 2015. Rather than rest on their laurels (and because you can’t rest at a standing desk), they applied the SmartDesk’s core principles to new projects.

They later launched the ErgoChair in 2016 and are set to debut the WorkPod this summer. However, that doesn’t mean they abandoned their earlier projects. They currently sell variations on their desk, pod, and chair, which leads me to the subject of this Autonomous ErgoChair Pro review.

Keep reading to find out what the chair is made from, how much it costs, its notable features, what customers think about it, and more. Let’s begin by discussing its highlights.

Materials / What Is It Made Of?

Autonomous ErgoChair Pro Review

Something I haven’t touched upon yet in my Autonomous ErgoChair Pro review are the materials that go into the chair’s production. It primarily uses polyester fabric and polyurethane. The seat is made out of supportive foam that doesn’t sink under you. It can hold your weight while you work.  Furthermore, the seat is contained within a breathable fabric so your cheeks won’t overheat.

Speaking of overheating, the Autonomous ErgoChair Pro can keep your back cool with its mesh back. Not only that, but the mesh is quite flexible, so your back can rest and ease into a cozy position. It’s not super soft, but it’s comfortable.

Before I move on to the next part of this Autonomous ErgoChair Pro review, allow me to stress this; the chair is made from 100% environmentally friendly and recyclable materials.

Autonomous ErgoChair Pro Review

Autonomous summarizes their chair as “Fully adjustable, completely supportive, and super breathable.” Coming away from this Autonomous ErgoChair Pro review, it’s hard to argue with that claim. It has multiple points of articulation that you can adjust to your preference. These include the headrest, the armrest, the back, and the seat.

The back can recline to one of five angles and locks itself into position. Meanwhile, the seat can tilt to match the back angle so that you’re never too compact or outstretched. This combination provides exquisite lumbar support no matter how chilled out you are. There’s also a lumbar support pad nuzzled behind the mesh back.

The Autonomous ErgoChair Pro’s headrest can rotate up to 45 degrees, so it can provide comprehensive coverage no matter where you’re looking. This is essential if you’re spending most of your day sitting down and working, like most of us are.

The Autonomous ErgoChair Pro is available in six different colors:

  1. Black
  2. Cool gray
  3. Evergreen
  4. Black and white
  5. Red apple
  6. Baby blue

Regardless of which color you select, you’re looking at a $500 price tag.

Autonomous ErgoChair Pro: What’s In The Box?

Autonomous ErgoChair Pro Review

There isn’t much in terms of mystique when it comes to assembling the Autonomous ErgoChair Pro. It arrives in a heavy box and you’ll quickly learn why it’s so heavy once you take out its contents. Since the chair weighs 50 pounds, the weight comes from the added packaging and padding.

However, assembly is straightforward, even for newcomers. You can put the entire Autonomous ErgoChair Pro together in around half an hour. Thankfully, the chair arrives with the tools you need to assemble it. Most pieces either click or screw together.

Autonomous ErgoChair Pro Specs

Autonomous ErgoChair Pro Review

In terms of its physical attributes, the Autonomous ErgoChair Pro provides a comfortable and adjustable seating experience. With dimensions that accommodate various body types and preferences, users can enjoy a spacious seat measuring 20 inches in length and width. The chair’s adjustable height ranges from 18 to 20 inches, catering to different desk heights and personal comfort requirements.

The Autonomous ErgoChair Pro’s back dimensions, with and without the headrest, offer support and customization options. They measure 21“ wide and 22” high and extend to 28-31” in height when the headrest is included.

The chair’s tilt range of 22 degrees allows users to find their ideal reclining angle. With adjustable armrests ranging from 11-14” inches in height, users can tailor the chair to their preferences.

The Autonomous ErgoChair Pro is smooth and mobile, thanks to the presence of five caster wheels that enable easy movement and stability on various surfaces.

Who Is The Autonomous ErgoChair Pro For?

Autonomous ErgoChair Pro Review

The Autonomous ErgoChair Pro is for customers who want a chair that supports them rather than a pillow to relax into. Remember, it’s an office chair meant to help you stay productive, so you should expect it to treat you as such. If you want a cushion, perhaps look elsewhere.

Autonomous ErgoChair Pro Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Autonomous ErgoChair Pro Review

Unfortunately, customer Autonomous ErgoChair Pro reviews were few and far between. Outside of the Autonomous website, I struggled to find many reputable customer testimonials. As such, I mostly relied on what I read on the brand’s site for the purposes of this Autonomous ErgoChair Pro review.

Based on those results, I can assume that most customers were happy with the chair. After all, it holds an average score of 4.6/5 stars as of June 2023 based on more than 2,000 reviews.

Most buyers said the chair helped them become more productive or improve their workrate. One user wrote, “I’ve been through a lot of office chairs in my time and this is the best I’ve had. It’s super comfortable, and so adaptable. It seems to be adjustable in every way possible, even right down to the arm rests. It’s been a real pleasure using this chair and I’ve definitely become more productive. It’s an investment that has paid off!

Other customers claimed that the chair was a marked improvement over their prior chairs, whether those were office chairs or, in this buyer’s case, one from a dining room set.

I was using a chair from the dinner table for my home office which was a pretty dumb move on my part. Especially since I got this ErgoChair Pro which has changed, My. Life. Wow! I used to get back aches all the time and I couldn’t figure out why but then I started looking at these chairs with “lumbar support.” I wasn’t convinced but I thought I’d give this chair a go. And I’m so glad I did.

After collecting what information I could on Autonomous’ website, I ventured over to a Reddit thread discussing the Autonomous ErgoChair Pro. Reception there was more mixed, but there were still some users who left valuable insights about the product. One Redditor wrote;

Good ergonomic chairs aren’t supposed to be super cushiony. This chair has a perfect amount of give while maintaining firmness, and the design is pretty advanced in this regard with the variable density back webbing, and seat coils.”

They later added. “I have had lower back issues for 15 years and this chair has made a huge improvement for my back issues compared to more cushiony chairs. I also move around a fair bit when seated and this chair does actually accommodate that better than most, as advertised.”

Some buyers said the Autonomous ErgoChair Pro wasn’t as comfortable as they expected. They believed that it’d be soft but found it was more rigid than they would’ve liked. However, the chairs were made to improve productivity and support the delicate parts of our bodies like the lower back. It makes sense that the chair would be more rigid than a massage chair, for example.

Is Autonomous Legit?

Autonomous ErgoChair Pro Review

There were a few common complaints within buyer Autonomous ErgoChair Pro reviews, mostly regarding the product’s delivery time. Some customers said they received their products much later than anticipated. However, I’m not sure where these buyers are located and Autonomous has different shipping schedules for each country.

While I wouldn’t say that makes Autonomous sketchy, it’s something to keep in mind if you purchase an ErgoChair Pro.

Is The Autonomous ErgoChair Pro Worth It?

Autonomous ErgoChair Pro Review

Despite the complaints about shipping times and the preferences for comfortable versus firm chairs, there wasn’t a lot of tea spilled in customer Autonomous ErgoChair Pro reviews. As such, I feel safe recommending it to office workers and gamers alike. It has tons of customization and versatility, so you can stay productive without sacrificing your posture.

How To Choose The Best Office Chair

Autonomous ErgoChair Pro Review

When shopping for an ergonomic office chair within an average salary range, there are several key factors to consider. Here are some things you should look for:

  • Adjustable Features: Look for chairs with multiple adjustable features, such as seat height, armrest height and width, lumbar support, and backrest angle. These adjustments allow you to customize the chair to fit your body and support proper posture.
  • Lumbar Support: Adequate lumbar support is crucial for maintaining a healthy posture and reducing lower back strain. Look for chairs that offer adjustable or built-in lumbar support to ensure proper alignment of your spine.
  • Seat Depth and Width: The seat should be deep and wide enough to provide comfortable support for your thighs and hips. Ideally, you should be able to sit with your back against the backrest while leaving a few inches between the edge of the seat and the back of your knees.
  • Breathable Material: Consider chairs with breathable materials, such as mesh or fabric, that promote airflow and help prevent discomfort from heat and sweating during extended periods of sitting.
  • Padding and Comfort: While firmness preferences may vary, choose a chair with adequate padding to provide both comfort and support. It should offer enough cushioning to prevent discomfort without sacrificing proper ergonomic support.
  • Weight Capacity and Durability: Check the weight capacity of the chair to ensure it can safely support your weight. Look for chairs made from durable materials that can withstand regular use and last for a long time.
  • Swivel and Casters: A chair with a 360-degree swivel feature allows for easy movement and access to different areas of your workspace. Ensure the chair has smooth-rolling casters suitable for the type of flooring in your office.
