Benefiber Review

Fiber is an essential component of a healthy diet. Because our overall health is highly dependent on what is going on in our digestive tract, it is never too early or too late to begin building a solid foundation. Anyone over 6 years old can supplement with Benefiber.

According to the US Dietary Guidelines, the daily goal for fiber consumption in adults should be between 25-30g per day. As a society that lives on the go, eating a westernized diet high in saturated fats, refined grains, and sugar, it is safe to say that most of us do not consume enough dietary fiber.

A diet that is low in fiber can lead to a ton of poor health outcomes such as sluggish bowels, weight gain, high blood pressure and cholesterol, and changes in blood sugar. As a result, our bodies are at an increased risk of developing serious chronic diseases. Luckily, Benefiber offers a few products to help us get our fiber content.

Benefiber Original

The first of the bunch, Benefiber Original, is designed for those who want the benefits of fiber without noticing the taste or texture. Made from wheat dextrin to maintain overall gut health, you can look for Benefiber Original in four different sizes of 38, 62, 125, or 190 servings.

This taste-free, sugar-free, gluten-free powder can be easily dissolved in your favorite drink or added to your favorite recipes to add an extra nutrient punch to your regular daily routine.

For added convenience when you are on the go, you can find Benefiber Stick Packs in original or kiwi strawberry flavors. Prepackaged in the suggested dose, you can keep these packs in your bag or pocket for easy use!

Benefiber Chewables

If you aren’t a fan of powdered supplements or want an even more convenient version of Benefiber, then Benefiber Chewables might be your go-to. These chewable tablets are available in assorted fruit flavors and give you the same benefits as Benefiber Original.

Benefiber Prebiotic Fiber + Probiotic Gummies

Benefiber Prebiotic Fiber + Probiotic Gummies are a convenient and yummy way to nourish your gut health. With a blend of prebiotic fiber from inulin and probiotics packed into a natural fruit-flavored gummy, these gummies are available in a container of 50.

Benefiber Advanced Digestive Health

If you are looking to give some extra love and attention to your bowels, you might be interested in Benefiber Advanced Digestive Health. A daily prebiotic formula to support the relief of abdominal discomfort and constipation.

This Advanced Digestive powder is taste-free and suitable for individuals following low FODMAP, vegan, and gluten-free diets. You can buy this product in containers of 20 servings. Unfortunately, this product was unavailable at the time of writing.

Benefiber Healthy Shape

Benefiber Healthy Shape is for, you guessed it, helping to maintain a healthy body shape. Fiber is an essential nutrient for weight loss and controlling hunger cues. Benefiber Healthy Shape is a prebiotic fiber meant to act as a safe and gentle way to help you feel fuller longer.

This supplement is also made from wheat dextrin and comes in a taste-free, sugar-free powder.

With Benefiber, their products are available to purchase from various retail partners and not directly through the Benefiber website. So the cost of these supplements may vary based on your location and shopping preferences.

Who Is Benefiber For?

Benefiber Review

Benefiber is made for anyone over the age of 6. It may be most beneficial for people who have digestive concerns or those who know they are not meeting the daily recommendations for fiber intake.

For those under 6 years of age, pregnant, or breastfeeding, it is best to talk to your doctor before making any changes to your diet or supplement regimen.

What Are The Benefits Of Benefiber?

Benefiber Review

Promoting a diet high in fruits and vegetables is undoubtedly important for preventing disease by delivering adequate amounts of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants to the body. However, other nutrients are high in these foods that don’t often get the spotlight, like fiber.

Fiber is an essential nutrient that we must have in large quantities in our diet. Due to lifestyle factors and the quality of our food, it is often difficult to get the amount of fiber that our bodies need to function optimally. This is where fiber supplements such as Benefiber find their way.

Getting enough fiber through supplementation and diet reduces our risk[1] of developing diseases related to poor cardiovascular health, obesity, and poor gut health.

Adequate fiber intake reduces cholesterol, regulates blood sugar and blood pressure, maintains a healthy weight, and supports proper digestion, as this study shows[2]

Because many of the processes that keep our bodies functioning properly begin in the gut, it is important to look here first when building a strong foundation for health. Changes in the makeup of our gut[3], known as dysbiosis, lead to inflammation, obesity, hormonal changes, and poor immune function.

By nourishing a healthy gut environment, Benefiber helps prevent dysbiosis and the health concerns resulting from an unhappy internal environment.

How Does Benefiber Work?

Benefiber Review

A focus of modern medicine and physiological science is the gut microbiota. This diverse community of microorganisms in the gut is of interest due to their potential role in the optimal functioning of the immune and digestive systems, as shown here[4]

Due to common factors such as food, stress, age, disease, and medication, there can be alterations in this community of organisms, mainly an overgrowth of harmful bacteria, known as dysbiosis. When dysbiosis occurs, you can develop a whole whack of symptoms from head to toe.

To explain how Benefiber contributes to nourishing and protecting your microbiota, we need a basic understanding of two of the microbiota’s main components: probiotics and prebiotics. Keeping things simple, probiotics are the live organisms that live in the gut and the main contributors to a healthy gut environment.

Just like humans, bacteria need food to survive, which is where prebiotics come into play. Prebiotics feed and nourish probiotics to stimulate[3] their growth and help them survive in healthy amounts.

Now that you have had your science lesson for today, we can shift the focus to this Benefiber review. The role of Benefiber in nourishing the microbiota by providing the body with fiber, which is a prebiotic. Because the body can’t fully break down fiber, this nutrient will sit and ferment in the colon, providing[4] a healthy gut environment by stimulating the growth of probiotics

In terms of maintaining a healthy weight, Benefiber Healthy Shape may help to shed those stubborn pounds by keeping you feeling full longer. Compared to other foods, fiber takes longer to chew[5] and move through the digestive tract, prolonging the feeling of fullness and helping to reduce overconsumption.

Ingredients in Benefiber such as PHGG have been shown[6] to reduce symptoms like diarrhea and constipation associated with irritable bowel syndrome by increasing the population of probiotics such as lactobacilli and bifidobacteria

What Are The Ingredients In The Benefiber?

Benefiber Review

Benefiber ingredients are mainly different forms of insoluble and soluble fiber. Fiber is a primary component of plants and is highly concentrated in cereals, nuts, fruits, and vegetables, as shown in this study[7]

You can find one of the following types of fiber in your Benefiber product:

Partially Hydrolyzed Guar Gum: PHGG is a water-soluble form of prebiotic fiber from the guar plant seed. This study[8] shows how this soluble fiber regulates the intestinal function and stool formation and is commonly found in liquids and foods as a thickener.

Inulin: Inulin is a common prebiotic fiber source found in vegetables such as onion, chicory, and wheat.

Wheat Dextrin: Wheat dextrin is a soluble fiber that is commonly added to food and drink because the texture does not change. Its fiber nature comes from the glucoside linkages that allow it to slowly pass through the digestive tract and ferment in the colon[9]

How to Take Benefiber And Dosage

Benefiber Review

The daily dose of Benefiber depends on the product you choose. Each product is easy to take as you simply mix them into your water, coffee, or favorite beverage until they dissolve. You may also choose to add Benefiber to your baking or cooking. Here are the daily recommended dosages of each Benefiber product:

  • Benefiber Original: 12 years and up, use 2 tsp in 4-8 oz of liquid, three times per day. Divide the dose in half for children under 6 years old
  • Benefiber Chewables: 12 years and up chew three tablets up to three times every day. Divide the dose in half for children 6-11 years old
  • Benefiber Prebiotic Fiber + Probiotic Gummies: 12 years and up chew two gummies twice per day

  • Benefiber Healthy Shape: 12 years and up, use 1 rounded tbsp in 8 oz of liquid twice per day

One thing that I think is important to mention in this Benefiber review is that you should not add Benefiber to carbonated beverages.

Benefiber Side Effects

Benefiber Review

Taking Benefiber should cause you no issues when taken at the recommended doses. At most, you may experience[9] gas and bloating as your body adapts to an increased fiber intake. Be sure when taking Benefiber to increase your water intake to minimize the potential of digestive upset.

If you experience any Benefiber side effects, you can divide the daily dose in half and gradually increase the amount you consume until your body can tolerate the full dose.
