About Byte

Byte Aligners Review 1

Byte offers eligible customers orthodontist-directed treatment using invisible aligners through remote monitoring done from home.

While we might think of orthodontics as something that kids and teens need, 24%[1] of orthodontists’ patients are adults. For this population, metal braces in your mouth might not be so desirable. Invisible aligners, like Byte, could be the solution for those who want a straighter smile.

Byte has been featured in major media outlets, including Business Wire, TechCrunch, Forbes, Bloomberg, Yahoo! News, NBC Los Angeles, People, and the New York Post.

The company is a member of the Better Business Bureau with thousands of 5-star Byte Aligner reviews and a proud member of the American Teledentistry Association.

This past spring, actor Kerry Washington joined Byte as a Creative Advisor and Investor. Byte sure is popular, but do they live up to the hype?

This Byte aligners review will take an in-depth look at the brand and its products, customer ratings, promotions, and more, to help you decide if Byte teeth products are worth the buy.

Overview of Byte

Byte Aligners Review

Byte uses a unique teledentistry platform to make it easier, faster, and more affordable for people to get the orthodontic work and better smile they’ve always wanted.

The company, created in 2017 and launched in 2019, is based in Los Angeles. Byte works with over 200 licensed doctors, orthodontists, and dentists across the US who prescribe and oversee every treatment plan with Byte clear aligners.

Byte treats people aged 12 and up who have all of their adult teeth and a Byte orthodontist’s approval to safely receive teledentistry. Using invisible, plastic, custom-fit aligner devices, Byte is designed to align teeth in a minor to moderate way using invisible, plastic, custom-fit aligner devices.

This includes spacing, crowding, and rotation corrections. Gradually, your teeth shift to become straighter and improve your smile. Studies[2] have shown clear aligners to be effective in straightening teeth.

The next portion of this Byte aligners review will look at how Byte works:

  1. Byte home impressions are shipped to you and will indicate whether you’re a good candidate for Byte. The process takes about 15 minutes and there are easy-to-follow instructions, including how to return the impressions with free shipping.
  2. Once received, your impressions are used by Byte orthodontists to create your personalized treatment plan. This includes using several photos for their “Smile Science” to observe your face proportions, features, and symmetry to design the best smile for you.
  3. Using remote monitoring throughout treatment, your doctor tracks your progress with Byte.

A Byte teeth straightening kit, or an impression kit, gets you started along with two types of aligners for your teeth. You can choose whether to use them day or night; pending your orthodontist’s approval, you wear the aligners in the way most comfortable for you.

Next up, this Byte aligners review showcases these products, along with the signature Byte dental movement acceleration device, whitening kit, all-in-one foam cleanser, whitener, and breath freshener.

This Byte aligners review will now dive into the top-selling aligners and their plans.

Byte All-Day Aligners Review

Byte All-Day Aligners are custom invisible aligners that gradually and safely move your teeth to where they should be. You wear each aligner for one week, then move on to the next set for the duration of your program. To improve comfort and speed up results, you also wear HyperByte for 5 minutes each day (HyperByte is included for free, see details below).

Byte All-Day Aligners help you straighten your teeth at home. These are to be worn for at least 22 hours each day and only removed when eating or drinking. The highly transparent aligners are made from BPA-free, medical-grade, tear-resistant polymer film. They’re also smoother and 88% more stain-resistant than others, which has been scientifically proven.

When the instructions for use are followed correctly, you can see results in as little as 30 days, with an average treatment time of 4-6 months to see results, which happens to be the fastest turnaround time in the industry! Comparatively, traditional braces take 1-3 years to straighten your teeth.

Byte All Day Aligners will cost you around $70/month.

Byte All-Night Aligners Review

If the thought of wearing your aligners during the day leaves you cringing (fair!), check out Byte All-Night Aligners

These work while you sleep to straighten your teeth. The night version of Byte aligners is made with a thicker medical-grade polymer, BPA-free, grind-resistant material. One study[3] has shown that about 9% of people experience sleep bruxism – or grinding teeth at night – so if this is an issue that you face, you’re killing two birds with one stone.

The aligners require a minimum continuous 10 hours of wear along with HyperByte for 10 minutes a day. Once you have doctor approval, you’ll see results and feel less discomfort in about 5-6 months. Byte All-Night Aligners will cost you $84/month for 36 months, with a $299 deposit.

Byte Impression Kit Review

The Byte Impression Kit includes trays, molding putty, putty gloves, and a smile stretcher. You use this kit by following the instructions to send back your teeth impressions (at no shipping cost). Then, Byte orthodontists examine the molds to create a treatment plan for you, which includes an interactive 3D model. Cool!

Your custom aligners and treatment plan gets delivered to you after that. The Byte Impression Kit is on sale for $30 (originally $95).

Byte HyperByte Review

HyperByte is Byte’s safe and proven dental movement acceleration device. This product makes use of vibration-based therapy (High-Frequency Vibrations), commonly used by orthodontists. One study[4] has shown that high-frequency vibration can decrease the length of treatment needed when used alongside clear aligners.

HyperByte is included for free with each treatment plan. HyperByte also increases comfort and helps better position aligners around your teeth. One study[5] showed that micropulse treatment effectively reduced discomfort associated with teeth movement from orthodontic treatment.

The HyperByte device is to be used with your aligners, once a day for 5-10 minutes. HyperByte is included and only available while participating in Byte’s treatment but, should you ever need a replacement, you can buy it for $699.

Byte Snow At-Home Whitening Kit Review

Byte offers a professional-grade whitening kit, the Snow At-Home Teeth Whitening All-In-One Kit, which safely removes stains using cold light technology that won’t erode enamel[6]. By spending 10 minutes a day using this product, your teeth will be whiter in as little as 3 days

Results are guaranteed, and Byte offers a 5-year warranty. And, as a bonus for anyone with dietary restrictions or ethical considerations, the gel has the following properties:

  • Vegan
  • Soy-free
  • Gluten-free
  • Lactose-free

The Snow At-Home Whitening Kit includes a mouthpiece with patent-pending LED accelerating technology, 3 whitening wands for the serum, an extra-strength whitening serum wand (with double the power), and teeth whitening progress tracker.

You can get your hands on the Snow At-Home Whitening Kit for $149, marked down from $199. Read our full review on Snow Teeth Whitening here.

Byte BrightByte Review

Included in the treatment plan is BrightByte, a 3-in-1 foam cleanser, whitener, and breath freshener (plus bacteria destroyer!). With this system, you don’t need to soak or rinse your aligners and your teeth get whitened without sensitivity.

BrightByte includes ingredients like hydrogen peroxide and mint oil. Hydrogen peroxide[7] is the key ingredient in this product, as it has been shown to help with teeth whitening.

The process is simple: brush your teeth and, once clean, pump BrightByte foam into your aligner or retainer trays and spread it evenly throughout your mouth. This 3-in-1 teeth cleaner can be yours for $30.

This Byte aligners review continues below with a look at real customer reviews for Byte products and treatments.

Does Byte Take Insurance?

Byte Aligners Review

You may be wondering, how much is Byte with insurance? Byte doesn’t take payment directly from insurance companies, but it’s possible to be reimbursed for Byte aligners directly by your insurance company if you get orthodontic benefits with your dental coverage. If needed, Byte can provide the required forms to file a claim.

How Long Do You Wear Byte?

Byte Aligners Review

Byte treatment plans vary in duration depending on the person, but the process typically takes 2-4 months. Because of HyperByte, this is much faster than competing aligner brands.

Who Is Byte For?

Byte Aligners Review

Byte is made for those that are in need of minor alignment for their teeth. Since this brand relies solely on home kits and processes, the Impressions Kit will be the only way to know for certain that Byte is for you and can fix the oral issues.

If Byte determines that their products are not for you, then they will provide you with a full refund

Comparison: Byte vs. Invisalign

Byte Aligners Review

Though Byte has a lot of great options when it comes to aligners, there are a few other brands out there that are trying to compete with its success. One of these brands is Invisalign.

Founded in 1997, Invisalign makes a variety of aligners and retainers with advanced technologies and they treat the following issues:

  • Crowded Teeth
  • Overbite/Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Gap Teeth
  • Open Bite
  • Children’s and baby teeth
  • Crooked teeth

By conducting a variety of tests and putting many plan options on the table, Invisalign’s products have brought straighter, better teeth for many. But, when it comes to the perfect teeth, does Byte or Invisalign take the #1 spot?

First off, both Byte and Invisalign are made with medical-grade materials. But, Byte uses BPA-free, tear-free polymer film, whereas Invisalign is made with plastic. Studies[8] have shown that Invisalign is still safe to wear in the mouth, but Byte has Invisalign beat when it comes to comfort.

Next, let’s look at how these aligners are made. Byte uses their at-home Impressions Kit to take a mold of your teeth, determine if you need aligners, and then make you your own custom set.

Invisalign asks you for an in-person consultation to scan your teeth with iTero Element technology that creates a 3D scan of your teeth. From there, the brand curates a plan to align your teeth and treat any concerns. So, when it comes to accuracy, Invisalign may have the upper hand.

Finally, we come to the price. Byte costs an average of $83/month for day aligners, $99/month for nightly ones, HyperByte for $699 as a one-time purchase, or their initial Impressions Kit for $30. For Invisalign, customers pay an average of $3000-$7000, with the option to have your HSA or FSA insurance cover up to $3000 of the cost.

So, when it comes to what is offered, the product details, and the price point, we still side with Byte. Friendly to those on a budget and need effective adjustments can definitely rely on this brand to get straighter teeth. But, if you are in the market for something slightly more accurate and technology-forward and can afford the steep price tag, we still recommend Invisalign.

Byte Aligner Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Byte Aligners Review

On to the biggest question in this Byte Aligners review: does Byte really work? Byte aligners reviews indicate that the treatment is highly rated by customers.

Consumer Affairs shows a 5/5 star rating based on 1,887 reviews from the past year, Best Company gives Byte 4.8/5 stars based on 2,788 reviews, and 321 BBB reviews give Byte a 4.47/5 stars. Very impressive!

Most people liked the simple and easy process, short treatment time, the Byte All-Night option, and that HyperByte is included for free.

Trustpilot also had a lot of good things to say about the brand, with over 2,240 reviews and a 4.8/5 star average. Many of these reviewers also loved the effectiveness of the aligners to straighten their teeth quickly and painlessly. As one reviewer stated:

“I am about halfway through with byte and I am so happy that I choose them. You can see my teeth getting straighter every time I put a new liner in. The cost is affordable and the customer service has been amazing! I definitely recommend!”

However, Byte’s somewhat higher prices compared to alternatives was a noted downside on this site. Plus, many reviewers commented on some poor customer service and no alignment after wearing Byte.

One of the reviewers was able to sum up many of the concerns customers have: no results and radio silence from customer service. Another Byte Aligners reviewer indicated that insurance had not reimbursed them due to a systematic issue between the insurer and orthodontist.

So, if you’re using health insurance, it’s best to confirm your coverage specifically for Byte before purchasing.

How long does Byte take to ship?

Byte ships to all states within the US and at no charge to you. It takes about 4 weeks from when you purchase your impression kit (assuming you return it right away) to receive your aligners and begin treatment. Conveniently, you can opt in to receive SMS messages with shipping updates.

How do I cancel Byte?

When you buy an impression kit, Byte’s dentists and orthodontists create an ideal treatment plan. If they determine you’re not a good fit to get great results from Byte, they’ll inform you and issue a refund for your impression kit.

Byte offers their Aligner Guarantee, which uses their “Smile Science” to straighten your teeth and complement your facial features. To achieve this, Byte needs you to follow certain guidelines:

  1. Wear your aligners every single day for at least 20 hours a day, except when you are eating or drinking anything besides water.
  2. If you are using HyperByte, this needs to happen for 5-10 minutes a day, every day.
  3. At the indicated check-in times, upload separate photos to your account (taken when you’re not wearing your aligners) of both your upper and lower teeth.

If you’re unhappy at the end of your plan, contact Byte within 15 days of your original prescribed treatment end date. Their team will re-evaluate your results, and you could be eligible for additional aligners.

Byte also created the Byte-for-Life Guarantee. This means they will always guarantee your smile and offer additional lifetime treatment, at no extra charge, if your teeth ever move out of alignment. This includes any unwanted movement away from your smile after treatment. You should note that the following things are not covered in this guarantee:

  • Teeth that have been affected or changed by outside physical circumstances, trauma, or other health reasons
  • Missing teeth or those affected by other dental or orthodontic treatment outside of Byte

Defective aligners

The aligners for the upper teeth is defective. I have emailed them and called the customer service but they do not respond. After receiving my money, they do not help you at all. I filed a complaint with the better business bureau and I’m disputing the payment with my credit card company

follow up care non existent

I am on Week 10 of a 14 week treatment plan. Absolutely Byte aligners are straightening my teeth.

However, I am VERY uneasy about my follow up care- they have never contacted me regarding how I am doing/ progressing. I have some irritation in my gums and I have had the same aligner on my top for weeks (it did not need as long as the bottom so you just keep the last aligner in until both top and bottom are complete) and it is really loose. No idea if this is normal and regardless, Byte should be asking how progress is.
I also am uneasy at the “orthodontist care” which they claim to provide. If orthos were involved I would believe they would want to look at my progress at some point in 10 weeks.

I paid in full when I first ordered my aligners, but didn’t realize they had a military discount. I emailed and asked for the partial refund and the woman said she’d ask her manager. Days later, she said that is she was unable to give a refund. So I sent a text to the “Byte helper” via text and asked her. She said that she’s unable to give a refund, but she can give me a teeth whitener. I asked for a refund again, then she said that I will be refunded.

Also not a fan of the Byte texter trying to convince me to purchase the night time aligners without telling me about the price difference.

Worth noting that they do offer a discount for students. Check their website. I found it after I bought my impression kit and it’s $100 off your aligners. I started the process a month ago and am still waiting on my aligners now.

Clenching

Do you have similar retainers for people who clench? I clench day and night and get severe headaches.
My dentist and Dr told me I should get a mouth guard an I have tried many over the counter.
My dentist said she could do an impression and have them made for me (like Invisalign) but they are way too expensive. My teeth are aligned perfectly, so I don’t need cosmetic help. Just clenching help.

Great Service But A Hassle To Reach Them Once You've Purchased

I ordered the Byte day aligners. The entire process – from the impressions to receiving my aligners – was completely smooth. One thing I did find kind of strange is that the entire interaction with my Byte rep took place via text. There was a slight miscommunication surrounding payment in which they didn’t split the payment amount up the way I had requested (I wanted to put the price of the aligners on FSA and the Byte protection plan on a Care Credit card) and it’s been a nightmare trying to reach them about it to have it resolved. It was almost like as soon as I purchased the aligners they got their money so wanted nothing to do with me, and were extremely hard to reach after that. My rep told me she would let the manager know about the situation and he would contact me. He never did. Every time I called and asked to speak with the manager, they’d put me on hold then tell me someone would be in touch with me, and they’d give me this vague answer over text. I finally was able to reach him, where he offered me a refund in exchange for my trouble (which was great) but it’s been nearly 3 weeks and I haven’t received my refund. They keep claiming there’s a delay with the finance team but aren’t able to give me any type of approximation as to when I can expect to receive that money back.

I’m not one to normally write reviews, especially ones like this, but this experience really rubbed me the wrong way. Perhaps it’s the fact that the whole exchange needed to be over text and the absence of human interaction, but their lack of response is unacceptable for a reputable company. Again, the signing up, ordering and receiving product process was great and they were very accommodating in the beginning, but beware of customer service after your purchase, should you have any issues.

Hopefully I receive my refund soon. But, until then, I’ll keep calling and checking on the status. SMH.
