About BURST Oral Care

BURST Electric Toothbrush Review

BURST Oral Care offers teeth cleaning products including their BURST sonic toothbrushes, floss, whitening products, and accessories. The company has been featured in many press and media publications, including Forbes, Business Insider, and Cosmopolitan. Celebrities including Chrissy Teigen and Khloe Kardashian use BURST sonic toothbrushes. The buzz is hot, but does the BURST toothbrush really work?

This BURST Electric Toothbrush review takes a look at the brand and its oral care products, customer ratings, promotions, and more, to help you decide if their products are worth the buy.

Overview of BURST Oral Care

BURST Electric Toothbrush Review

What is BURST Oral Care? This company creates and sells toothbrushes, cleaning & whitening products, and oral care accessories including travel cases, heads, & floss. BURST offers a subscription service for its products, which are recommended by dental professionals.

Oral hygiene and oral care often work hand in hand with the body’s natural defenses which are often found in daily activities such as brushing and flossing which helps in keeping bacteria under control. Without these interventions, bacteria can reach levels that might lead to oral infections.

This review[1] discusses the fact that dental diseases cause pain and can affect proper physical functions like talking and smiling. Due to this, research has been conducted, and results from the various clinical research show that dental treatments and public health interventions can improve oral health-related quality of life[2].

Based in Venice Beach, California, BURST Oral Care was founded in 2017 by Hamish Khayat and Brittany Stewart. Before launching the company, they worked with dental professionals to get feedback on early prototypes and recommendations on features and pricing, packaging, and manuals. Today, this is still their process for new products, taking as much advice from dental experts as possible before each product is made available to customers.

BURST works with dental professionals to recommend and refer products to their patients. Patients then subscribe to receive toothbrushes, replacement heads, and other products. In return, BURST pays profit shares on all sales sold through its 25,000+ ambassadors.

BURST Sonic Toothbrush

The BURST Sonic Toothbrush is a leader in the toothbrush market. This brush is great if perhaps you’re not the most diligent flosser and your gums tend to bleed (this can be an indication of developing gingivitis). This toothbrush has a 1-month battery life, so you can grab it and go without worrying about charging it up.

Gingivitis is a common and mild form of gum disease that causes irritation and redness of the gum around the base of your teeth. This review[3] shows that plaque forms very quickly but it can be easily removed by cleaning using an interdental brush or dental floss. Proper oral hygiene education begins when a dentist or dental hygienist can show patients how to clean their teeth properly.

You’re surely asking, does the sonic brush actually work? The answer is yes, according to customers (we’ll get into their thoughts later on in this Burst Electric Toothbrush review). Your teeth will be glimmering, as this brush has shown to remove up to 10 times more plaque than a manual toothbrush. The sonic toothbrush has a built-in 2-minute timer to make sure you’re brushing thoroughly.

The regular BURST Sonic Toothbrush retails for $70 and comes in black and white, and lavender, plus you can get free Whitening Strips with purchase. Or, for a little more teeth pizazz, you can get your hands on the pretty and stylish BURST Sonic Toothbrush Rose Gold Edition, which also includes a travel case, free Whitening Strips and goes for $100.

BURST Water Flosser

There’s nothing like that just-left-the-dentist feeling after you get your teeth cleaned. With the new BURST Water Flosser, you can achieve that feeling daily! The cordless water flosser[4] blasts a constant stream of water (160psi) through the teeth to eliminate food debris, plaque, and bacteria.

All you have to do is simply spray between your teeth to remove lingering food and dreaded bacteria. With its compact size, waterproof design (shower flossing is a game-changer), universal USB charger, and convenient travel bag, the BURST Water Flosser kit seems like the ideal choice to up your oral hygiene routine.

When referring to the study we mentioned above, results suggested that the water flosser was almost 30% more effective than string floss for overall plaque removal.

The BURST Water Flosser has three power settings to choose from: STANDARD, TURBO, and PULSE. One full charge keeps the portable device ready to use for up to 80 days. A single Classic Tip is included with your purchase but a subscription service is available for replacements: $6 per replacement tip every 180 days, with the option to cancel any time.

For those with gum and tooth sensitivity[5], a Perio Tip is available as an add-on to reach deep pockets, crevices, and problem areas. Have braces? Check out the Ortho Tip, designed specifically to help clean around your troublesome brackets.

The BURST Water Flosser kit retails for $70 and is currently only available in Black or White. If you’re lusting after the popular sold-out Rose Gold option, click the ‘notify me’ button on the product page to be notified once it’s back in stock. Who knew flossing could be so trendy?

BURST Expanding Floss

How sleek is this floss? BURST Expanding Floss features a textured filament that removes more plaque than other types of floss because it expands in your mouth. The floss turns black, which actually shows you the plaque and debris being cleaned out of your mouth, which might be too much information, but, hey, at least you know it’s working! The charcoal coating removes stubborn stains like coffee and wine.

The BURST Expanding Floss comes in two distinct flavors, mint eucalyptus, and juniper berry. What’s even better is BURST’s environmentally friendly subscription service, so you can be nice to the planet: keep the floss case and simply refill it with replacement bobbins. You can grab BURST floss for $13.

BURST Coconut Whitening Strips

If you’re looking for even whiter teeth, you might want to give BURST Coconut Whitening Strips a try. They’re safe for your enamel[6], formulated by professionals, and remove stains in just a week. Also, coconut. Yum. Other safe ingredients in the whitening strips include Glycerin, Aqua, Cellulose gum, Hydrogen peroxide (6%), Disodium EDTA, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Menthol, Citric acid.

Glycerin is commonly found in toothpaste for its ability to provide sweetness and help formulas stay creamy by retaining moisture. In this review[7], glycerin is referred to as an important tool in tooth polishing and is often applied to smooth teeth so that plaque and bacteria do not stick.

Studies have shown that hydrogen peroxide can be used to whiten teeth, however, it can cause significant damage to tooth enamel such as inflammation of the roots of the teeth in the gums. According to an in vitro experiment[8], hydrogen peroxide has been shown to be an effective tooth whitening product with added safety on subsurface enamel.

Coconut oil is an effective component to add to oral hygiene practice and research suggests oil pulling with coconut oil may reduce bad bacteria in the mouth. In a recent study[9], results suggested that the use of coconut oil in oil pulling practices showed a statistically significant decrease in the plaque and gingival indicators and was noticed onwards from day seven of the study.

Menthol is a compound that is present in plants such as peppermint and is found to cause the cooling sensation that occurs within many oral hygiene products. According to this study[10], participants with a habit of chewing menthol-flavored substances showed the presence of altered microorganisms known as the nuclei, and also displayed a change in the cytoplasmic fluid ratio, which could be directly related to genotoxicity and cell damage.

Each pack of BURST Coconut Whitening Strips contains a 7-day supply (7 upper and 7 lower strips) for $20, or right now if you subscribe for a pack every 90 days, you’ll get the sale price of $60 (works out to $15 per pack). This amounts to about the same as drugstore whitening sets from big brands like Colgate.

BURST Toothpaste

The BURST collection would simply not be complete without a solid whitening toothpaste. BURST Toothpaste is ideal and safe for everyday brushing and features a nice minty fresh flavor. The toothpaste was developed with the help of thousands of dental professionals and comes in 100% recyclable tubes containing BPA-free plastic.

It would take too long to discuss all the ingredients in this BURST Electric Toothbrush review, so we’ll just discuss a few highlights. The toothpaste is available with or without fluoride, which protects the enamel and fights cavities.

Xylitol prevents tooth decay, reduces plaque, and neutralizes pH. It whitens teeth naturally and removes stains using hydrated silica and has a low RDA (relative dentin abrasivity), so there’s no sensitivity with BURST Toothpaste.

You can get your hands on this natural and foamy BURST Toothpaste for $10 each, or every 90 days you can get a tube for $27.96 (works out to $7 each).

BURST Toothbrush Accessories

BURST is definitely not your parent’s dental product brand! It offers some pretty slick toothbrush accessories, from floss refills to wall adapter plugs and even t-shirts. The BURST Travel Case comes in black, white, or rose gold and is perfect for your next trip, wherever that may be. You can grab the case for $13.

If you’re running low on toothbrush heads, you can always pick up some BURST Replacement Heads in black, white, or rose gold to match your toothbrush. The black or white go for $7 each, or with a year’s subscription, you get four for $24 (works out to $6 each). Rose gold is priced at $8 each or $28 for four (works out to $7 each) with the yearly subscription.

BURST Toothbrush Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

BURST Toothbrush Review

While conducting this BURST Electric Toothbrush review, we found that the reviews on the brand’s website show that there is a 4.9/5 rating from about 41,200 reviews, which is is terrific!

It should be noted, though, that some reviewers are dental professionals who are part of the nearly 35k+ members of BURST’s Ambassador Program.

Other BURST Electric Toothbrush reviews were positive, overall. 439Facebook.com and 808Amazon.com reviewers each gave BURST 4.6/5 stars, with good customer service cited.

One verified buyer on BURST’s official website even suggested that the brush’s performance was better than other leading brands: “Ive been using a Oral B electric toothbrush for years, but I felt like it wasn’t getting the deep clean I wanted. I decided to give the Burst a shot and WOW it’s crazy how different it feels. It’s much more gentle and I feel area’s getting cleaned that the Oral B normally missed. I love it.”

BURST toothbrush Reddit and Amazon reviews include comments on the BURST Sonic Toothbrush and BURSTTravel Case. We found many things in common on more than one BURST toothbrush review site. In these reviews, many people commented on:

  • How clean their teeth and mouth feels
  • How white their teeth are without any sensitivity
  • How helpful the 2-minute timer is

For example, one Amazon shopper liked their BURST Sonic Toothbrush so much, they subscribed to receive replacement heads from the company’s official website:

“Held the review until I went to the dentist because I started this after my last appointment in which I was informed my gums weren’t doing the best. Was skeptical and needed some adjustments when I first switched to this because the brushing is different and a bit ticklish. Got used to it though and happy to say my dentist says my gum is doing much better without me informing her I did anything different. This is worth it. I have also subscribed to get my 3 month replacements. It was an easy process and they were very quick with it.”

Other positive aspects include the battery life, money back guarantee, and warranty (which is a standard one year, or lifetime while you’re subscribed). Reviewers on ElectricTeeth.com noted the BURST Electric Toothbrush is clinically proven and brings good value and convenience via the brand’s subscription program. Plus, for those with sensitive gums and teeth, the BURST Electric Toothbrush has super soft bristles that are designed to protect gums and enamel.

When it comes to customer concerns, the brush’s automatic shut-off time after two minutes seems to be a quirk that’s caught people’s attention. However, the number of positive reviews certainly outweigh the negative when it comes to the BURST Electric Toothbrush.

My BURST Electric Toothbrush Review

Hi, I’m Paige and I’m a product tester at Honest Brand Reviews.

BURST Electric Toothbrush Review 1
Paige, Product Tester

I was really impressed by this toothbrush. It has a timer and told me how long to spend on each section of my mouth.

After using it, I felt like I got a more thorough clean than I would with a normal toothbrush. I also thought the toothpaste was really tasty, which isn’t always a given with natural, sugar-free products.

Do not buy this toothbrush! I’ve gone thru 2 and my son is now having the same trouble I had. The power on off switch stops working and sometimes the brush just turns off in your mouth. Yes, they replace the darn thing but then you have to keep requesting a new brush and it should not be that way! And now I have 2 dead brushes, 2 power stands and 2 cords I have to dispose of. The company won’t accept returns either (probably made in China) so now these just fine power stands and cords (along with the dead toothbrushes) are supposed to just be put in the landfill??!! That is not acceptable! And no refund either. You might get 3 to 5 months of life out of this brush. It’s a no go (literally) for me.

Hi, my rose gold brush no longer holds a charge. Only has to touch the charger and it will run for another 2 mins then it has to touch the charger again. Any fix for this other than buy another? Thank you.
