About Kaiyo

Kaiyo Review

Facebook marketplace is a great space to offload old furniture pieces. Wouldn’t it be even better though, to know you can earn the money a good piece deserves from a credible buyer?

Kaiyo offers that opportunity, as well as the chance to pick up some of the neatest second-hand furniture on the internet. It’s an online market to both buy and sell furniture.

The company’s ingenious idea has earned them coverage by the likes of Money Magazine, Cheddar, Fast Company, Forbes, Martha Stewart, Domino Business of Home, and the New York Post.

They’ve kept over 2 million pounds of furniture from rotting away in landfills, which is just as impressive as the over 17k Instagram followers they’ve gained since they’ve formed.

You’re probably wondering what makes Kaiyo a more reliable online storefront than other buy and sell services. Keep reading our Kaiyo review to find out about the company’s featured products, their practices, foundations, and what their customers think.

Overview of Kaiyo

Kaiyo Review

Company founder Alpay Koralturk dreamed of improving how consumers thought about furniture reselling. He was heartbroken upon discovering how much furniture we throw into landfills or leave on our curbsides to gather mold in the rain.

So, in 2014, Koralturk founded Kaiyo in the New York area. He and his team handled every step of the process aside from the actual buying and selling. That means they collected, shipped, photographed, advertised, cleaned, and damn near performed plastic surgery on each piece on the Kaiyo marketplace.

They want to show customers that good furniture deserves a longer life than the Ikea to house to dump pipeline.

They want to develop a more sustainable and communal approach to home decor, one that’s built on preserving the planet as much as it is preserving furniture.

The company’s love of green is evident in more than just their item curation. They promise to plant a tree for every piece that’s bought and sold through their service.

Beyond the press attention given to Kaiyo, they’ve also worked hard enough to raise $5m in funding from New York City venture capitalists in 2021.

That’s not too bad for a brand that mere years ago was solidifying their identity by taking pictures in a warehouse.

Now that we’ve covered the company lore, let’s get into the meat and potatoes of this Kaiyo review. We’ll next cover some of the brand’s notable highlights:

Highlights

  • Offers a unique collection of designer home decor
  • Chance to save $20 by signing up for their email newsletter
  • Can be more affordable than purchasing furniture through a regular retailer
  • The company rewards buyers and sellers by planting a tree for every purchase made on their website

Our writing staff found sofas, beds, chairs, tables, storage units, and other pieces of home decor among the ever-unfolding cascade of user-generated items on the brand’s website.

Kaiyo Furniture Review

While Kaiyo’s furniture line-up is always revolving due to the nature of consignment shopping, this section will preview the top-notch quality common to most pieces available on the site.

Kaiyo Kimball Bloom Swivel Lounge Chair Review

The best way to kill time at a stuffy office job is by spinning around in your chair and trying to maintain your sense of equilibrium. Why not engage in that fruitless endeavor in style with the Kaiyo Kimball Bloom Swivel Lounge Chair.

This product blushes with a pleasing mustard yellow colorway. It’s in gently used condition, meaning you may find a few scratches or dents on it. However, for the price and the Kimball brand name, it’s worth putting up with those minor bruises.

You can sit in your own swiveling throne for $1,307.

Kaiyo The Inside Mid-Century Bench Review

You could have purchased your own Kaiyo The Inside Mid-Century Bench for $387 were it not currently sold out. However, take that as a sign of Kaiyo’s line-up being an internet treasure chest of furniture.

This contemporary bench is a dark blue, US-made stunner that can suit any lounge. It breathes cool like a jazz saxophonist exhaling smoke into a foggy late-night club. This item’s blue isn’t blue with melancholy, it’s reserved like a poker shark holding pocket aces and going all in.

Kaiyo Debra Folz Gem Dining Table Review

Our Kaiyo review staff are absolute suckers for art deco, and you might become one too when you feast your eyes on the Kaiyo Debra Folz Gem Dining Table.

Its angular legs and hexagonal tabletop are unlike almost all other dining tables. It’s as if it was transported straight from Fritz Lang’s Metropolis with the way it communicates high class and decadence.

Compliment your dining room with this piece for $4,207.

Kaiyo Thomasville Vintage Armoire Review

Wooden finish? Thomasville brand name? Fair price? Overwhelming amount of storage space? Yeah, this puppy has all of that.

The Kaiyo Thomasville Vintage Armoire is only available for local pickup and delivery because of its sheer magnitude. This hefty son-of-a-gun stands 45” tall, 77” wide, and is the reigning world armoire wrestling champion.

Grab this piece before it’s too late for $976.

Kaiyo Copeland Furniture Queen Contour Platform Bed Review

The Kaiyo Copeland Furniture Queen Contour Platform Bed’s true beauty lies in its central platform. Most bed frames consist only of the frame and a single bisecting bar, which can warp mattresses because of the uneven weight distribution.

This bedframe remedies that problem with its single large platform that can support an entire mattress, meaning neither side of the bed will be drooping or misshapen after years of use.

Rest comfortably in this product for $3,407.

Kaiyo Vanguard Furniture Michael Weiss Brody Lamp Tables Review

This lamp table duo is surprisingly still in excellent condition, an impressive enough feat given that the glass exterior appears to be in pristine shape although it’s technically pre-used.

The Kaiyo Vanguard Furniture Michael Weiss Brody Lamp Tables reflects modern design sensibilities with its transparent top and grey, minimalist shelves. Like most contemporary furniture it seeks to impress with its minimalism rather than screaming for attention.

You can grab both tables for a cool $3,759.

Kaiyo Design Within Reach Neo Chaise Review

Normally our Kaiyo review staff are wary of gently used couches the same way we’re weary of clown cars: sure they look innocent, but who really knows what either has witnessed.

Yet we’re willing to reserve our hesitation for the Kaiyo Design Within Reach Neo Chaise because of how darn comfortable it looks. This chaise looks designed to lure you into afternoon naps with the autumn sunlight tickling your chin.

Test our hypothesis out for $1,743.

Kaiyo West Elm Oversized Round Mirror Review

Kaiyo West Elm Oversized Round Mirror haters will say, “Why does anyone need an oversized mirror?”

Well-educated furniture fans, such as yourself, will chuckle, shake their heads, and reply, “Because they have plenty to look at.”

Although, this might be the first mirror you find yourself looking at more than you look at what it reflects with its curvaceous design, gold frame, and boastful 49” surface area.

Reflect upon yourself, and your outfit, for $455.

Who Is Kaiyo For?

Kaiyo Review

Our Kaiyo review team recommends this brand for New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania residents because they can access Kaiyo’s white-glove delivery service.

We still think Kaiyo offers something for those living outside of those states, but if that applies to you then you’ll have to wait a little bit longer for your product to arrive.

Kaiyo Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Kaiyo Review

So we’ve gone through the products, told you about what there is to like about the brand, and covered the gist of the company’s goals and history. Is there anything else to consider before scoping out what else they offer?

Actually, there’s one crucial element our Kaiyo review still hasn’t covered, and it’s the most illuminating part of any review. It’s what the customers have to say about the products!

We’ve pulled some of the more informative tidbits of consumer feedback from Yelp, but before we get into the anecdotes and pleasantries, let’s talk about the elephant in the room: Kaiyo’s customer-generated score.

Well, wouldn’t you know, it seems this elephant can fly! Over 550 customers gave the brand an average score of 4.5/5 stars. They were touted as being environmentally conscious, which customers appreciated because it made them feel more confident in their purchases.

Sellers loved how company representatives treated them. Kaiyo workers were often complimented for being respectful, cheery, and a pleasure to work with. Their fast-acting hands and efficient work-rate made pick up and delivery a sinch.

One 5/5 star seller’s review wrote about their experience with Kaiyo: “The pickup team was prepared with cloths, tape, and dollies to move the items. They were professional, courteous, and thorough. Their work was excellent. Some of my other furniture had to be moved to get the couch out of the house, and it was placed back exactly where it had been prior to being moved.

Another review spoke about how easy the process was for her as a seller. She placed the ad on Kaiyo, got her placement speedily accepted for advertising, and barely even broke a sweat when the brand’s movers picked up her item less than a week later.

This reviewer could not have been more pleased with Kaiyo: “Jessie and Christian were excellent. Very professional and careful, it was super easy!  They took the time to explain the process to me and were happy to answer any questions I had.

While it’s great to hear that their selling service is sublime, our Kaiyo review writers were curious if the same could be said for buyers. This 5/5 star review answered that question:

Bought a gorgeous used couch in Kaiyo. Well, it was more gorgeous than I expected! Delivered on time and very securely wrapped. The delivery people called me 15 minutes before they arrived and were very efficient and nice! Again, the couch was even better than the picture and description.

That reviewer wasn’t alone in their adoration for Kaiyo. Other buyers on Yelp reported similar satisfaction levels with their purchases made through the company.

After learning all we could from Yelp, we thought you’d like to know what other customers thought about the Kaiyo.

Strap in for this part buster. Over 241 Google customers rated the brand 4.1/5 stars, which is an impressive score on a platform as popular as Google.

It was more of the same there in terms of what consumers loved about Kaiyo. Most of them reported impeccable service, friendly delivery men, and high-quality furniture pieces.

One reviewer complimented nearly everything the Kaiyo did in their 5/5 star review: “The furniture arrived on time and as described. Gorgeous pieces that we would not have found elsewhere. The delivery was top notch and staff was friendly, polite, and conscientious. What an awesome company and concept.

Our Kaiyo review team also looked at the brand’s score on Birdeye just to ease you a bit before you looked into buying Kaiyo products.

It seems you can ease and relax as much as you please because Kaiyo garnered a respectable 4/5 star average score from over 260 customer reviews on Birdeye.

Let’s conclude this segment of the review by recapping what customers loved about the brand:

  • Easy buying and selling process
  • Fantastic pickup and shipping procedure
  • Furniture was often in better condition than what Kaiyo displayed in their photos

Is Kaiyo Worth It?

As our world plummets closer to its inevitable, fiery end at the hands of global warming, we should all do our part to, at the very least, delay that unavoidable fate by being more conscientious consumers.

The best way to do that is by purchasing consignment goods, like pre-owned pieces of furniture that Kaiyo sells. Not only will you be saving money, but our Kaiyo review team needs to remind you that the company will plant a tree for every product bought or sold through their website.

Combining the environmental benefits of a Kaiyo purchase with the potential savings and it’s hard not to recommend looking into what the company offers.

Kaiyo Promotions & Discounts

We found that you, yes you, dear reader, can save the easiest $20 of your life by signing up for the Kaiyo email newsletter. That $20 discount is good for any pre-owned piece of Kaiyo furniture.

There’s also the latent savings from buying secondhand, which is almost always cheaper than buying brand new products directly from the manufacturer. Kaiyo reports that you can save up to 90% on some of the world’s best furniture brands.

Where to Buy Kaiyo

Seeing as how Kaiyo does not produce any of their own furniture and is simply a moderator between buyer and seller, you can’t technically buy a Kaiyo product. Actually, a Kaiyo product doesn’t even exist.

This is just our fancy way of saying that the only place to buy, or sell, through Kaiyo is the brand’s website, kaiyo.com.

FAQ

Who owns Kaiyo?

Kaiyo is still owned by their workhouse founder Alpay Koralturk.

Does Kaiyo Warranty?

We can assume that Kaiyo does not offer a warranty through the magic of inference. We’re guessing they don’t because:

  1. They only buy and sell pre-owned furniture
  2. They do not actually own any of the furniture they distribute
  3. They do not feature any return policies

That’s a fair bit of deductive reasoning on our part, but our Kaiyo review writers were unable to find anything directly referencing a warranty throughout all of our research.

What is Kaiyo’s Shipping Policy?

Based on what we could dig up, it seems the brand only ships to American locations. Those living outside of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania should expect their products to arrive within 2 to 6 weeks. Third-party delivery services complete all of these deliveries.

Those lucky enough to live in those states can access Kaiyo’s white-glove delivery service. This service gets your purchase to your door in 2 business days, though we can neither confirm nor deny that anyone will actually be wearing white gloves like Mickey Mouse.

What is Kaiyo’s Return Policy?

All Kaiyo product purchases are final but you will have the chance to inspect each piece of furniture you want to buy at a company warehouse before finalizing the sale.

So you’d better be wide awake when it comes time for you to look over your purchase because you don’t want to miss a potential deal-breaking detail and wind up with a piece you would’ve liked to return.

How to Contact Kaiyo

  • Sending them a Direct Message through their Contact Us page on their website, kaiyo.com
  • Email: [email protected]
