Some things in life are inherently ungraceful. There is no neat way to eat tacos or spaghetti. There’s no dignified way to chase after an errant ping pong ball. And, of course, there’s no way to carry keys and find the right one (especially your house key after a long day) without looking like a scatterbrained caretaker at a wayward boarding school. Or so I thought.
KeySmart began as a company with the goal of making it easier to keep all your keys on hand. Nowadays, they’re still capable of doing that but also offer items that can make your life a little bit easier and make you look a little bit more put-together.
This small brand that looks like it makes props for Star Trek has earned praise from publications like Buzzfeed, Gizmodo, and Business Insider. They’ve also garnered over 90.7k followers on Instagram.
In this KeySmart review, you’ll find out what makes their products so worthwhile, how they can help you out, and what customers really think about them.
Overview of KeySmart
KeySmart is a true Kickstarter success story. The brand started on the crowdfunding platform in 2013 with founder Michael Tunney’s simple solution to a simple problem – a better way to keep multiple keys safe.
The original product earned over $300,000 from interested fans. A year later, KeySmart moved outside of Tunney’s basement and into a proper office building in Chicago. In the ensuing years, the company sold over 1m products in over 190 countries.
Their catalog evolved from a single way to keep your keys safe to a massive library of over 50 goods that can make life easier for their customers. I’ll cover some of those products after looking at the company’s highlights in the next section of my KeySmart review.
- Goods focus on efficiency and protection
- Huge collection of over 50 products
- One of the most successful Kickstarter campaigns of 2013
- Free shipping on US orders over $25
- 2-year product warranty
There are plenty of items I won’t cover in this KeySmart review, but that doesn’t mean they’re not worth your time. In addition to products similar to those you’re going to learn about, you can find wallets, chargers, bags, cleaning products, notebooks, and KeySmart organizers, on the brand’s website.
You don’t have to be too smart to see that this company sells more than keys (I’m sorry for that pun, but I couldn’t help myself). However, you wouldn’t be too smart if you didn’t look at what makes some of the products I’ll cover in this KeySmart review worthy of a place in your home.
KeySmart Max Review
The first product in my KeySmart review can do away with the existential dread of losing your keys. This item connects to the Tile app (available on all smartphones) to send you its location. It’s a small keychain that you attach to your keys so that you’ll never lose them.
The KeySmart Max can emit a sound if you have trouble locating it. Plus, it has a generous Bluetooth range, so you should never be too far away from your keys. Its battery can last up to 60 days on a single charge, meaning that you can rest easy for 2 months.
You’re probably wondering what the “max” in KeySmart Max means. This item is a bit of a Swiss Army Knife in that it can hold additional accessories, including a lanyard, multitool, and bottle opener.
The KeySmart Max can also reduce the overall clutter of your keychain because you can slide your keys inside of its shell. Reduce how much your pockets jangle when you walk with this item for $80.
KeySmart Pro Review
If you thought the last product in this KeySmart review was good but maybe a little much, then I recommend the KeySmart Pro. It’s the brand’s original staple product that comes with many of the same features as its successors.
The KeySmart Pro can hold up to 14 keys in its shell. Usually, that many keys on a keychain would make you look like a janitor, but this product nuzzles them away discreetly.
That’s made even better because this product communicates with the Tile app, so you should always be able to find it. You can look at a map on your smartphone to see exactly where your keys are if you connect them to the KeySmart Pro.
This product comes in four colors (black, slate, red, and rose gold) and would normally cost $80. However, if you get there soon, you can snatch one for only $60.
KeySmart CleanLight Air Pro Review
Here’s where I get into the more outside-the-box items in this KeySmart review. You wouldn’t expect to find an air purifier in this company’s catalog, but that’s why they say that the best things in life are often surprises.
The KeySmart CleanLight Air Pro is an air purifier that’s small enough for you to take whenever you go. It can eliminate germs within a 160-square-foot radius. So go ahead, eat all the beans you want, cause the air around may be so pure that it doesn’t matter how much that fruit makes you toot.
You don’t need to purchase filters for this purifier because it uses negative ions to cleanse the air. It’s small enough to fit in your hand, and its battery can last up to 4 hours. Those capabilities mean you should be able to venture into the world and re-enjoy life without fear of getting sick from bacteria.
You can buy the KeySmart CleanLight Air Pro for $220.
KeySmart Commuter Backpack Review
You might be thinking, “Golly gee, this KeySmart review really makes me want to empty out my wallet and buy everything here, but where am I gonna keep it all?” Allow me to introduce the KeySmart Commuter Backpack, which is more than just a knapsack with the brand’s name etched onto the back.
It means to endure the hottest and most arduous commutes without taxing you. This backpack has foam pads on the straps and back to allow air to flow through and lessen the load on your body.
This backpack has a plethora of protective features that can keep your goods safe from the environment (waterproof casing, a hardshell top) and suspicious individuals (an RFID-blocking pocket, anti-theft locks).
Purchase the KeySmart Commuter Backpack for $266.
Who Is KeySmart For?
Seeing as how KeySmart produces so many different products, I think that anyone who wants to find ways to dampen life’s little annoyances will find something that appeals to them.
KeySmart Reviews: What Do Customers Think?
To make this KeySmart review complete, let’s see what customers think of the brand. Here are some of the KeySmart review scores taken from Amazon.
- KeySmart Compact Key Holder and Keychain Organizer: 4.4/5 stars out of 6,609 reviews
- KeySmart Pro: 4.1/5 stars based on more than 2,528 pieces of customer feedback
- KeySmart Max: 3.8/5 stars based on more than 1,064 pieces of customer feedback
It’s pretty clear that people were quite affectionate towards their KeySmart items. They particularly liked how well the product connected with the Tile app. Customers said that they could easily locate their keys by using the app.
Here’s what one Amazon user wrote in their 5/5 stars KeySmart review. “This was a game changer for me. No more looking for keys or asking my wife to help. I just press the button on my phone and it rings until I find it!!”
I also consulted with the KeySmart scores on BestBuy’s website. Once again, buyers loved how the product made life just a little bit easier. They appreciated the minimal design.
This is what one customer said about their KeySmart purchase. “I’ve had mine a little over a year now and love it. Since I originally put my 2 keys on it it has remained intact, hasn’t loosened or wavered in any way. I love the simplicity of it. Good product.”
In order to find out what KeySmart’s customer service was like, I looked at the brand’s reviews on Trustpilot. I noticed that there were a few complaints that KeySmart did little to help people fix their problems with the product.
That being said, I also found positive KeySmart reviews like this one that mentioned how the company helped buyers who couldn’t find solutions.
“After contacting the help desk through the contact form on the website, I was swiftly presented a number of options to maybe resolve the issue, but when these also did not work I received notice that a replacement item without additional costs had been shipped to me!”
I’ll wrap up this section by saying that, on the whole, most people thought that KeySmart was worthwhile.
Is KeySmart Legit?
At the time of this KeySmart review, I couldn’t find anything that led me to believe that it wasn’t a legitimate business.
Is KeySmart Worth It?
In our opinion, KeySmart is worth considering if you are looking for a few nifty tools to make your life just that much simpler.
