But how did this brand get its start? Jason Hairston grew up reading bedtime stories about Saxton Hill and Howard Hill. Hunting was practically in his DNA, as he learned to hunt and kill wild animals at a very young age. 

As he neared adulthood, Hairston’s passion for the great outdoors would lead him to the tactical gear industry. With the help of Jonathan Hart, he helped co-found Sitka during its preliminary years.

It wasn’t until 2011 that Hairston decided to leave Sitka to develop his own apparel brand. Now headquartered in Dixon, California, Kuiu is one of many reputable brands within the tactical gear industry.

According to several happy customers, Kuiu clothing managed to hold up while hunting. The brand’s jackets, pants, and harnesses proved to be durable and resistant to water and normal wear and tear. Others were happy with the amount of comfort and insulation some of their products provided. 

“Great pants! Used these pants during the brutal cold weather event North Texas suffered during the week of February 14th. Snow, ice, freezing rain, and severe cold did not phase the material of these all conditions pants,” one customer wrote about the Attack Pant.
