If you’ve consumed water at any point in the past few years then you’ve probably seen a Nalgene water bottle. Whether or not you were drinking from one is another question, but you’ve most likely heard of the name. Nalgene is one of the leading manufacturers of water bottles in North America.
The brand boasts a huge following of 110k people on Instagram and some of its products have amassed more than 50k reviews. That’s a lot of input from customers. However, you probably need an expert’s opinion, which is why I’m here with my Nalgene review.
Coming up, I’ll be looking at the brand’s image, its bottles, customer feedback, and more to see if it lives up to its prestigious reputation.
Overview Of Nalgene
Nalgene’s water bottles have cropped up nearly everywhere over the past two decades. Brand loyalists claim that it’s because the bottles are everything that you’d want in a water–carrying receptacle—meaning that they’re:
They’re highly regarded for their ability to contain liquids of different temperatures, which means that they’re great for camping trips or hikes. In fact, hikers are one of the brand’s biggest customers as they’re frequently seen exploring the outdoors with a Nalgene bottle in their hands.
In the highlights section of this Nalgene review, let’s examine what makes these water bottles so remarkable in the eyes of their fans.
- Durable and long-lasting water bottles
- All Nalgene water bottles are made in the United States
- Every bottle is BPA-free
- The bottles are dishwasher safe
- Free shipping on all US orders over $30
- The Nalgene warranty covers all bottles for a lifetime
The bulk of the items in this Nalgene review and in the brand’s catalog are water bottles. It’s sort of their thing. However, I should also mention that the company makes accessories for its bottles—including sleeves and caps.
Nalgene Water Bottles Review
This portion of my Nalgene review will hone in on what makes these water bottles so worthwhile. Is it the marketing? Is it the branding? Or do they live up to the hype? Let’s look at some of the most popular items in the company’s catalog to see what’s up.
Nalgene 32oz Wide Mouth Sustain Water Bottle Review
The 32oz Wide Mouth Sustain Water Bottle is the newest water bottle that put Nalgene on the map. If you’ve seen someone walking around with a Nalgene bottle then it was likely this one.
It’s not surprising why that’s the case. This bottle has the key features that made the original Nalgene bottle such a hit—namely the wide mouth and the dishwasher-safe material.
What makes this version an improvement is the use of Tritan renew as the main material. That means this water bottle is free from BPA, BPS, and phthalates. Also, half of its composition comes from recycled materials, making it better for the environment.
The Nalgene 32oz Wide Mouth Sustain Water Bottle can be yours for $16.
Nalgene 12oz Kids Grip-N-Gulp Graphic Review
Getting your kids to drink more water can seem like an uphill battle—especially if they have to drink from a boring and/or stinky water bottle. Thankfully, Nalgene developed the 12oz Kids Grip-N-Gulp Graphic to encourage children to drink more water.
This bottle comes in several different designs, including:
- Spring green
- Green trails
- Pink mermaids
- Pink wheels
- Blue biplanes
- Orange giraffes
- Pink with beet lid
Every bottle in this line is leak-proof, as tough as a two-dollar steak, and made from 50% recycled materials. The Nalgene 12oz Kids Grip-N-Gulp Graphic costs $9.
Nalgene 32oz Narrow Mouth Sustain Water Bottle Review
Some people suffer from an incurable illness known as ‘butterfingers’—a condition that can cause sufferers to spill nearly everything they try to drink. Thankfully, the Nalgene 32oz Narrow Mouth Sustain Water Bottle can remedy that issue. Its mouth is smaller so that you can easily fit it in your own mouth.
This water bottle has many of the same properties as the Nalgene 32oz Wide Mouth Sustain Water Bottle—specifically in regards to its construction. It’s tough, safe, easy to clean, and free from BPA. Additionally, it’s made from 50% recycled materials to reduce carbon emissions.
You can buy a Nalgene 32oz Narrow Mouth Sustain Water Bottle for $16.
Nalgene 38oz Wide Mouth Steel Backpacker Review
The previous bottles in this Nalgene review are made from Tritan renew, which is a BPA-free resin. While that’s great, some people don’t like the feeling that those water bottles give the water. It’s a personal preference, but it’s a big enough issue that can cause some individuals to avoid drinking water altogether.
Luckily, there’s the Nalgene 38oz Wide Mouth Steel Backpacker for people who want something a bit different. This product is made from 316 stainless steel, which is better at preserving the temperature of the water. It’s a better insulator—meaning your water will stay hotter or colder for longer.
Furthermore, this water bottle has the largest capacity out of any of the items in this Nalgene review. It can hold up to 38 ounces, which is just under five cups.
The Nalgene 38oz Wide Mouth Steel Backpacker is available for $40.
Who Is Nalgene For?
I think that nearly everyone can find value in these Nalgene bottles. The only people they wouldn’t be suitable for are those who prefer glass water bottles or those who need absurdly large water jugs.
Nalgene Reviews: What Do Customers Think?
To give you an idea of what customers think about Nalgene, I’ve created a list of the product review scores from the most popular items on the brand’s Amazon page. They are as follows:
- Sustain Tritan BPA-Free Water Bottle: 4.9/5 stars from 2,100 customers
- Wide Mouth Water Bottle: 4.8/5 stars from more than 50,000 customers
- Tritan Narrow Mouth BPA-Free Water Bottle: 4.8/5 stars from more than 3,700 customers
Based on all the high Amazon ratings, these Nalgene products are worth the hype. In their reviews, people usually praised the price, durability, and leak-proof nature of the bottles.
Most Nalgene reviews looked something like this one I found on Canadian Tire’s website. “Known this brand for a long time, its cheaper and high quality. Definitely recommend to others to buy. Proven and tested.”
Other reviewers commented on the longevity of the bottles. Some people claimed that they held onto their Nalgene bottles for up to a decade, which is a resounding success in terms of product sustainability.
On Amazon, this individual had great things to say about their bottle’s durability and shapely design. “I’ve dropped this bad boy on concrete a few times, so yeah he’ll get some scratches easy-peasy. But no cracks thus far, nor have there been any leaks. Also, the wide mouth is nice for when I want to put ice in my water.”
I’ve included this customer review from Influenster.com as a way to sum up everything that people love about Nalgene. “Durable and doesn’t get stinky!!! It comes with me everywhere, covered in stickers and has never cracked and I have dropped it a lot!!”
Is Nalgene Legit?
Now that all of Nalgene’s bottles are BPA-free, I don’t think there’s any suspicion about this brand being legit.
Is Nalgene Worth It?
It’s hard to find a water bottle that’s as durable, affordable, and accessible as some of the bottles I’ve included in this Nalgene review. As such, I believe they’re worth buying.
