About Polywood

Polywood Review

With sustainability on the rise, it’s unfortunate that some brands resort to greenwashing to make a profit. Customers are forced to weed through thousands of shady companies, ranging from clothing to food, making false claims. But there are still some good companies out there. If you’re in the market for eco-friendly furniture, Polywood has got you covered.

Founded in 1990, Polywood is considered a leading pioneer in climate-friendly furniture. They mainly produce outdoor pieces, which are made out of recycled plastic. Naturally, the brand’s adherence to sustainable alternatives has won them some recognition online.

Media outlets such as CNN, Forbes, and Architectural Digest, have all featured this company in the past. It also doesn’t hurt to mention that Polywood has over 55.4k followers on its Instagram page.

If you’re the type to host backyard dinner parties or neighborhood barbeques, finding high-quality outdoor furniture is a must. Keep reading my Polywood review as I’ll provide a comprehensive view of the brand, its products, customer ratings, promotions, and more to help you decide if they’re worth the investment.

Overview of Polywood

Polywood Review

In 1990, Polywood was nothing more than a teenage dream. More specifically, founders Doug Rassi and JJ Alfred kickstarted their business in high school.

Their passion for creating sustainable furniture was partially inspired by the governmental efforts placed in the 1980s, as the United States implemented recyclable programs as a way to combat waste. Rassi and Alfred decided to create their own solution through Polywood by utilizing post-consumer plastic

Soon enough, Polywood outgrew its headquarters as the brand moved from its old house garage to Syracuse, Indiana. Today, the company sources ocean-bound plastics and HDPE as its core materials. Known for its weather-resistant properties, the brand states that its patented blend is best suited for outdoor furniture.

Polywood states that they’ll continue to produce sustainable alternatives for customers to choose from. As they put it:

“‘Made with genuine POLYWOOD lumber’ is a brand promise — our furniture is built to be enjoyed season after season after season. More importantly, our goal is to help create spaces where friends and family can gather, relax, and connect.”

Before I get further into my Polywood review, let’s go over some of this brand’s key highlights.

Highlights

  • Wide range of outdoor furniture made for lounging, dining, and more
  • Made out of post-consumer plastics to help mitigate waste
  • Relatively transparent in manufacturing practices and sourcing
  • Entirely sustainable products
  • Offers a 20-year warranty on select products
  • Positive customer reviews
  • Provides free ground shipping for U.S orders

The quintessential backyard barbeque relies on three things: delicious food, great company, and a selection of stylish, high-quality outdoor furniture.

Unfortunately, the latter is often overlooked, as we typically focus on meal prep and sending out invitations. As a consequence, tables begin to chip, chairs start to break, and worst of all, it warrants a snarky remark from your neighborhood Karen.

If you want to be saved from the wrath of grill gods, dads, and Karens alike, it’s time to invest in a quality selection of outdoor furniture. Thankfully, Polywood is home to dozens of stylish designs. Made with sustainability in mind, you can practically say goodbye to cheap, flimsy plastic alternatives.

For those in need of recommendations, I will highlight a few of their best-selling products to help you get started.

Polywood Adirondack Chairs Review

Ideal for pool lounging or resting by the bonfire, Polywood furniture offers a great assortment of Adirondack chairs to choose from. To keep things short, I will only focus on one best-seller for now.

Polywood Modern Adirondack Chair Review

The Modern Adirondack Chair is what you need to complete your backyard patio. This sleek stool features a reclined backboard and armrests to ensure adequate support.

It’s made out of Polywood lumber, which is a patented blend of post-consumer plastics. Designed with UV protection, you don’t have to worry about splinters, cracks, and rotting as opposed to wooden alternatives.

Constructed with seasonality in mind, the Modern Adirondack Chair can withstand rain, snow, and intensive wind storms. It’s also worth noting that all Polywood Adirondack chairs feature a waterfall front to ensure comfort on the back of your knees.

Offered in various colors, this all-time bestseller starts at $249. It’s worth noting that some hues are more expensive than others.

Polywood Rocking Chairs Review

Rocking chairs are meant for retirement, right? Nope. Anybody can enjoy the leisurely movements of a rocker no matter their age. Thankfully, the brand offers a few models to choose from, including this Polywood rocking chair.

Polywood Presidential Rocking Chair Review

Simplistic in silhouette, the Presidential Rocking Chair can easily blend in with your patio furniture or nursery room. It features a standard frame with armrests, a backboard, a curved seat, and sloped runners to ensure that gentle, swaying effect. Durable in material quality, this bad boy is equipped to handle snow, rain, or baby vomit. Whatever is natural to you.

Manufactured out of recycled plastics, this Polywood chairs model doesn’t require any additional weather-proofing. It’s also worth noting that it can easily be cleaned with water and soap.

Ideally paired with a throw pillow and a sturdy blanket, the Presidential Rocking Chair starts at $229 and costs extra for certain colors.

Polywood Dining Set Review

If the weather calls for sunny skies and zero chances of rain, you should take it as an opportunity to dine outside. Unless you’re fine with camping chairs and ‘lap trays,’ the brand provides a great selection of dining furniture to choose from. In this section of my Polywood review, I will look at one of its top-selling designs.

Polywood Lakeside 7 Piece Dining Set Review

If you’re not one to covet fancy kitchen spaces, the Lakeside 7 Piece Dining Set is as simple as they come. It comes with a 37” x 72” farmhouse table, four side chairs, and two armchairs.

Durable in construction and weather-proof in design, this bundle can easily withstand spontaneous rain falls or gusts of wind. Plus, it offers more than enough room to accommodate guests and dishes alike.

Best accompanied with a table spread, seat cushions, and a decadent menu, the Lakeside 7 Piece Dining Set costs a semi-affordable $1,595.

If you’re not a fan of neutral tones such as beige, black, and white, you’ll be pleased to know that this Polywood dining set also comes in forest green for an additional $100

Polywood Chaise Lounges Review

Opting for the criss-cross-applesauce method isn’t the most comfortable seating position. Case in point, Polywood offers a great collection of chaise lounges on its website. The one that I’m about to review is no exception.

Polywood Nautical Chaise With Arms Review

Let’s be honest. Taking a nap on the porch bench will result in a lot of soreness. For those in need of a more comfortable option, the Nautical Chaise With Arms offers a cloud 9 experience.

This chair features an adjustable back, armrests, and an extended seat to help accommodate your legs. Designed to fold flat, users can easily take this model out to the beach or park for suntanning and reading.

Weather-proof and durable in design, you don’t have to concern yourself over paint jobs or re-construction DIYs in the future. Price-wise, the Nautical Chaise with Arms retails for $329 if you go for standard black or grey. Other colors will cost extra.

Polywood Side Table Review

In order to create the best lounging experience, all chairs require a side table to help hold cold drinks, phones, and magazines. Naturally, it’s only fitting that Polywood offers models on its website. Below, I will spotlight one of their best-selling designs for customers to consider.

Polywood South Beach Side Table Review

Compact in size, the South Beach Side Table is just what you need to hold your margarita in place. It’s made out of Polywood lumbar, which again, is a patented blend of recycled plastic

Designed to withstand extreme weather, this durable model offers the same degree of resilience as provided by the brand’s other products.

Considered an ideal place to rest your lemonade pitcher, the South Beach Side Polywood Table is available for $79.

Polywood Table Review

Before my Polywood review comes to a close, I thought it best to include one more best-seller for good measure. Here, I’ll go over one of the brand’s top-selling tables.

Polywood Round Farmhouse Dining Table Review

If you prefer a more intimate setting for your family’s backyard BBQ, the Round Farmhouse Dining Table ensures a closed space for better conversation flow.

Designed with plenty of leg room, this outdoor model can accommodate 5 or more people. It’s constructed with the same materials found in other Polywood products, so you can take care knowing that the table passes the durability test.

Offered in different colors, the Round Farmhouse Dining Table retails for $499

Who Is Polywood For?

Polywood Review

You should never underestimate the power of stylish outdoor furniture. It can do wonders in enhancing your backyard, especially if you’re prepping for a BBQ party.

While most opt for a flimsy set of plastic tables and chairs, Polywood provides a more durable and eco-friendly alternative. Customers don’t have to feel guilty about increasing their carbon footprint, as the brand utilizes post-consumer waste as its core material.

It’s worth noting that Polywood furniture is quite expensive. From chaise lounges to stools, most products retail for a hefty $500 to $1,000.

Polywood Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Polywood Review

Customers have a civic duty to warn others about potential red flags they may experience. On the plus side, they’re relatively avid in recommending brands that work for them. Polywood appears to be on the good side, as I found multiple positive comments associated with their products.

To kick things off, this Polywood review will feature ratings posted for their best-sellers.

  • Modern Adirondack Chair: 306 reviews with 4.8/5 stars
  • Presidential Rocking Chair: 240 reviews with 4.6/5 stars
  • Lakeside 7 Piece Dining Set: 347 reviews with 4.7/5 stars
  • Nautical Chaise With Arms: 218 reviews with 4.6/5 stars
  • South Beach Side Table: 333 reviews with 4.8/5 stars

Durable, well-made, and reportedly easy to assemble, Polywood furniture is considered a must-have for homeowners. Take it from two happy customers, who left glowing reviews for the brand’s selection of products.

“The Nautical loungers are a beautiful teak and the quality and workmanship is excellent. The parts fit well together with no issues. Will definitely purchase more in the Nautical line,” one customer wrote about the Polywood Chaise Lounge

One reviewer had this to say about the Lakeside 7 Piece Dining Set: “Final construction was easy to finish (arms on chairs and legs on table) and then we could start using. The all-black looks great and makes our red cushions & umbrella really pop! Expect to be enjoying this furniture for years to come.”

In order to paint the full picture, I thought it best to include some feedback from other sources as well. Sitejabber and the brand’s Facebook page showcase promising scores of 4.1/5 and 3.3/5 stars. Most praise is for its free shipping, ease of website navigation, and quality of its material.

One Facebook user wrote: “Got our order within a few days of the estimated ship date. All parts were there and  it went together fairly easily. Great quality, very happy with our purchase.”

Next, I looked at independent blogs for in-depth Polywood reviews. On Heather Bien, the author wrote a fair article about the brand’s Adirondack chair, calling it worth the investment:

“How on earth are Polywood chairs worth the price tag?! At $230+ a pop, they’re not necessarily budget-friendly, yet they seem to be the gold standard in Adirondack chairs. Yes, the wood ones are beautiful, but for durability, everyone seems in agreement that Polywood is the way to go.”

It’s a well-known fact that positives come with negatives. I did uncover a few unsatisfactory reviews about the brand’s customer service and product quality. Keep reading, as I’ll discuss this in full in the next segment.

Is Polywood Legit?

Polywood Review

Polywood furniture isn’t everybody’s cup of tea. According to websites like Facebook and Sitejabber, some buyers weren’t happy with the brand’s level of customer service. This mainly includes issues with returns and manufacturing defects. Others received their order with missing parts.

Aside from this, you can take care knowing that the number of horror stories posted online pales compared to the number of positive reviews floating around.

Is Polywood Worth It?

Polywood Review

Goldilock’s approach to responsible shopping is a method practiced by several homeowners. Finding a chair, table, or pool bench should feel just right, and that applies to both comfort and its carbon footprint.

Polywood manages to hit that sweet spot, as customers don’t have to feel guilty about purchasing plastic furniture. The brand sources post-consumer waste as a climate-friendly solution. Durable and practical in design, you can take care knowing that Polywood pieces are meant to last for years

Again, the brand’s selection of products is expensive, but if you can afford to drop a pretty penny, I highly recommend that you check them out.

Polywood Promotions & Discounts

Polywood Review

While writing my Polywood review, I found out that the brand doesn’t regularly provide promotions and discounts for its products. I suggest keeping tabs on the company’s social media for any future updates on special offers.
