About Pretty Litter

Pretty Litter Review

Nowadays, animals are our children and plants are our new pets. In other words, we treat our cats with the same caution we would our kids—and that means assessing everything from their meows to their bathroom visits.

Cats are interesting creatures. Fiercely independent, they tend to keep their pain and illnesses to themselves. Often, you won’t know if your secretive feline has a health issue until very late in its course—sometimes, when it’s already done a ton of irreversible damage.

Pretty Litter was created in 2015 by Daniel Rotman to solve that issue. Witnessing firsthand the heart-breaking process of losing a pet to a preventable condition, Rotman set out to create a solution.

Pretty Litter’s goal is “to get your cat care before urgent medical attention is needed, saving you money, stress, and potentially your fur baby’s life.” With this health monitoring litter, pet owners can get their dear companions the treatments they need, now more efficiently than before.

So, how does it work? Through its revolutionary color system, the litter alerts owners of certain imbalances in their cat’s system—detecting a range of conditions not limited to bladder stones, UTIs, kidney disease, and inflammation

As pet lovers themselves, the folks behind this brand made sure to give some of their profits back to organizations that save animals’ lives. This includes The Humane Society, Animals for Armed Forces, Operation Blankets of Love, and many others.

Pretty Litter helps you stay on top of your cat’s well-being with its smart, non-toxic formula. Each time your furry friend uses the bathroom, the silica-based litter will turn a certain color, indicating whether their urine falls inside or outside the healthy range.

Operating from their headquarters in LA, they’ve brought peace to thousands of pet owners across the US and Canada.

Along with key details on their best-selling health monitoring litter, I’ll explore customer feedback, promotions, and more. Let’s take a few to get the know the brand first and then I’ll dive right into the details.

Pros and Cons

Pretty Litter Review

Before we jump into how the service works, my Pretty Litter review will quickly fill you in with these pros and cons.

Pros

  • Early detection of potential health issues: Pretty Litter is designed to change color in response to abnormal changes in a cat’s urine, which can help alert owners to potential health issues early on, allowing them to seek medical attention for their cat as soon as possible.
  • Low-dust: Pretty Litter is low-dust, which can be beneficial for cats and their owners who have respiratory sensitivities.
  • Lightweight: Pretty Litter is lightweight, making it easy to transport and pour into your cat’s litter box.
  • Odor control: Pretty Litter has good odor control, which can help keep your home smelling fresh and clean.
  • Convenient delivery: Pretty Litter is available through a subscription service, which means you don’t have to worry about running out of litter and can have it delivered straight to your door.

Cons

  • Expensive: Pretty Litter is more expensive than many other types of cat litter on the market, which can be a downside for cat owners on a tight budget.
  • Tracking: Some users have reported that Pretty Litter can be more prone to tracking than other types of litter, which can be messy and inconvenient.
  • Less effective for multiple cats: Because Pretty Litter changes color in response to any cat’s urine, it may be less effective for detecting health issues in multi-cat households.
  • May not work for kittens: Pretty Litter is not recommended for use with kittens under four months old, as their urine may not be concentrated enough to trigger the color-changing properties of the litter.

How Does Pretty Litter Work?

Pretty Litter Review

You’d do anything to help you cat live their best life, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t tough to shell out hundreds for frequent vet visits every time you suspect something’s wrong.

Pretty Litter monitors your cat’s health without hurting your wallet. Delivered straight to your door each month, you’ll use this shade-changing litter in place of your regular litter.

Instead of looking at clumps of gray or beige, when you cat urinates, you’ll see colors of bright red, green, blue, and yellow. But don’t let those pretty colors fool you, some represent dangerous health conditions. Pretty Litter includes a chart to help you read your cat’s litter and determine an appropriate response.

It’s up to you to take action if there are any signs of trouble, but it’s also a relief to see when your cat’s urine falls within the normal range.

The first step in the whole process is actually buying the litter, and thankfully, doing so is super easy. Pretty Litter is subscription-based, but there is no minimum time commitment. You can order once and cancel right away or try it for a few months to continuously monitor your cat’s health.

Right now, Pretty Litter is exclusively available from their official website. It’s not something carried by your local pet store which actually saves you time and money in the long run.

The super convenient home delivery subscription includes numerous savings, free shipping, and occasional promotions. With products like this, it pays to buy online.

If you’re wondering if you can simply try out the product without subscribing, in a way, the answer is yes. While Pretty Litter isn’t available for purchase without a subscription, users can simply sign up to receive a shipment, and then cancel their service before the next billing period.

Subscriptions automatically renew either each month or four times a year depending on the plan you sign up with. You can terminate your Pretty Litter cat litter subscription at any time (free of charge), but be sure to do so before your next billing cycle as all orders are non-refundable

Now that you know exactly how this service works, the next section of my Pretty Litter review will walk you through the details of their subscription.

Pretty Litter Cat Litter Subscription Review

In case I didn’t make it clear yet in this Pretty Litter review, there is just one Pretty Litter formula. Every plan delivers the same odor-blocking, health-monitoring product, just different amounts of it depending on how many cats you have.

Have a lot of cats? Don’t stress, you can add as many bags as you need within each subscription period. Even if you’re stocking up for a shelter or SPCA with dozens of cats, Pretty Litter has got you covered.

After you choose how many pets you’re accommodating, pick whether you would like your litter delivered every 1 or 3 months. When making bulk purchases, the 3-month subscription is the most time and cost effective choice. One bag typically lasts a month.

What Do The Colors of Pretty Litter Mean?

Pretty Litter Review

Don’t you just wish your beloved fur babies could tell you how they’re feeling? Think of Pretty Litter as a communication tool that lets you know if your pet is feeling unwell or has a silent health issue that may cause bigger problems in the future.

Pretty Litter will display one of four different colors depending on the condition of their urine. Certain colors indicate conditions that require medical attention:

  1. Blue: Alkaline—this may mean your cat has a urinary tract infection or even bladder stones
  2. Orange/Yellow: Acidity—possibly an indication of metabolic acidosis or kidney infection
  3. Dark Yellow/Olive Green: Normal—your kitty is in tip-top shape!
  4. Red: Blood—red blood cells in the urine mean that they may have bladder inflammation, a UTI, or bladder stones

Does Pretty Litter Last A Month?

Pretty Litter Review

Buyers report that a 4lb bag of Pretty Litter lasts for a month, if not more. Apparently, you need less of it than you do regular litter, so you’ll get more out of one sack than you would with other brands who offer the same size.

Of course, this all varies according to how frequently your cat uses the litter box—if they pee a lot, some users may find that a supply lasts a little under a month.

Can I Mix Pretty Litter With Regular Litter?

Pretty Litter Review

Pretty Litter is an almost snow white color that makes the results of your cat’s urine test stand out more. Traditional kitty litter is a sandy gray/beige color. When they’re mixed, you won’t be able to clearly identify which shade of the Pretty Litter color chart is showing up.

Making a concoction will also muddle with the indicators of Pretty Litter, meaning that it may not be able to do its job as efficiently. Consequently, you may not be able to detect your cat’s illness until much later on.

For these reasons, mixing different types of litter isn’t ideal, even though it is safe to do so.

How Much Is Pretty Litter?

Pretty Litter Review

The total cost of your Pretty Litter subscription depends on the number of cats in your household. More feline friends means you will go through litter at a faster rate. Fortunately, you can tailor your plan to accommodate all of these factors.

Pretty Litter lets you add on as many bags as you need. Considering the basic equation that one bag lasts one cat for a month, I’ll list the prices for up to three pets below.

  • 1 cat $22/month or $66/3 months
  • 2 cats $40/month or $120/3months
  • 3 cats $60/month or 180/3 months

If you need more than one bag per month, you will save 10%. Now with that bit of housekeeping out of the way, does this litter actually work? You’ll find out with the customer feedback up next in this Pretty Litter review.

Who Is Pretty Litter For?

Pretty Litter is a brand of cat litter that can be used by any cat owner who is looking for a high-quality, convenient, and innovative solution for their cat’s litter box needs.

Pretty Litter may be particularly beneficial for cat owners who are concerned about their cat’s health and want to keep a close eye on their cat’s urine output.

The litter is designed to change color in response to abnormal changes in a cat’s urine, which can alert owners to potential health issues, such as kidney problems and other health issues. This can be especially helpful for older cats or cats with pre-existing health conditions.

In addition to its health benefits, Pretty Litter is also lightweight, long-lasting, and low-dust, which can be beneficial for owners who prefer a more eco-friendly and convenient cat litter option. Overall, Pretty Litter can be a good choice for any cat owner who wants a high-quality, innovative, and health-conscious solution for their cat’s litter box needs.

Who I wouldn’t recommend Pretty Litter to

While Pretty Litter is generally safe and effective for most cats, there are some situations where it may not be recommended.

Here are some examples:

  1. Kittens: Pretty Litter is not recommended for use with kittens under four months old, as their urine is not concentrated enough to trigger the color-changing properties of the litter.
  2. Cats with urinary tract infections: If your cat has a urinary tract infection, Pretty Litter may not be effective in detecting the issue, as the litter may not always change color in response to the infection.
  3. Cats with certain medical conditions: If your cat has a medical condition that affects the color or consistency of their urine, such as liver disease or kidney failure, Pretty Litter may not be effective in detecting changes that could indicate a potential health issue.
  4. Multiple cat households: If you have multiple cats sharing the same litter box, it may be more difficult to detect changes in individual cats’ urine with Pretty Litter, as the litter will change color in response to any cat’s urine.
  5. Cat owners with limited budget: Pretty Litter is relatively expensive compared to other types of cat litter, which may not be suitable for cat owners on a limited budget.

Pretty Litter Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Pretty Litter Review

It’s obvious that this litter serves an important purpose. On paper, it’s a great idea, but if you’re wondering about the product’s usefulness and efficacy, then keep reading this Pretty Litter review.

Ahead, you’ll find my results after a thorough search for helpful customer feedback. I searched for ratings and in-depth accounts of users’ personal experiences with the brand. If I could ask cats how they like it, I would have done that too!

Pretty Litter has over 25,000 5-star reviews on their website. Customers love the odor-blocking ability of the litter, one writing, “PrettyLitter checked off every box for us … the odor control is great, no dust, and it’s impressive how much less litter is needed compared to others.

On Trustpilot, the brand has a 4/5 star score among 254 reviews. Here’s a peek at the snapshot:

  • 5 stars: 56%
  • 4 stars: 5%
  • 3 stars: 3%
  • 2 stars: 3%
  • 1 star: 33%

One Pretty Litter review read, “Okay first off the product really is worth the hype! Lightweight and absolutely stops the smell! I went through many different bags of litter hating every brand until I found Pretty Litter, I don’t find it any more expensive than all the other brands I’ve tried as you use much less.

The same shopper also said customer service was excellent. Speaking of customer service, Pretty Litter has an A+ score on the Better Business Bureau, a nod at how well the company responds to and resolves customer complaints.

In the Pretty Litter review section on the BBB, many customers expressed appreciation for the illness-detecting kitty litter, the brand’s “amazing customer service”, and their “no odor” formula. It appears that this company has relieved stress for many pet owners and has saved their cats’ lives.

A Pretty Litter review on All About Cats awarded the brand an overall rating of 9/10. Here’s how they got to that score:

  • Customer Service 10/10
  • Price Per Pound 8/10
  • Multi-Cat Formulas 7/10
  • Natural/Alternative Options 10/10
  • Long-Lasting Odor Control 10/10

The reviewer initially harboured some doubts and tested Pretty Litter out for “a few weeks on several cats.” After putting the invention to the test, they stated that their “cats took to it easily and we were thrilled with the liquid-absorbing and odor-controlling power of the litter itself.” It appears that this litter really does perform well.

Though they found this litter to be helpful in some major areas, it didn’t tick every box of common things that pet owners look for such as a clumping formula. Clumping is certainly important, but the litter does dehydrate solid waste which is a plus.

Overall, Pretty Litter is well received and most cats seem to have no issues using it. It’s important to keep in mind that the texture is different from regular litter. This means that it might not perform in all of the same ways—but, the pay-off is that this litter is potentially life-saving for your kitty.

Is Pretty Litter Legit?

Pretty Litter is indeed a legit company with a product that works as claimed. The brand’s A+ score on the BBB assured me that if you run into an issue, they will work to resolve it.

Is Pretty Litter Worth It?

Pretty Litter Review

Pretty Litter can alert pet owners if their cat has an urgent medical condition. This is something that makes the product worth it to me right away. The color-changing formula is easy to read and safe for your cat.

Truth be told, $22 per sack is more that what you’d pay for regular litter, but considering you’re essentially testing your cat’s urine every time they pee, the price is more than fair.

This easy-to-clean formula delivers on its claims, and customer support seems to be solid for the majority of shoppers. The brand also provides a risk-free subscription with their 30-day money back guarantee.

FAQ

Pretty Litter Review

Can you flush Pretty Litter?

It’s time to get down and dirty in this Pretty Litter review and get real about waste. For proper disposal, flush your pet’s solid waste down the toilet and then throw the litter into your usual trash.

Is Pretty Litter toxic?

The super absorbent litter is made from silica gel, which won’t have a significant effect on your pet’s bowels if they accidentally eat it.

If you’re thinking that you’ve read somewhere that you should not ingest silica gel, that’s due to the fact the little pebbles are a choking hazard, not because they will cause your body any harm.

What chemicals are in Pretty Litter?

Pretty Litter uses “proprietary formulation indicators” to detect infection. These do not contain any chemicals that will harm your pet. Instead, the brand uses a blend of naturally occurring minerals and absorbent silica gel.

How often should I change Pretty Litter?

One of the most helpful features of Pretty Litter (aside from the whole life-saving thing), is that thanks to the bright colors of the litter, you’ll know exactly when to change it. Once all of the crystals in the box have changed color, go ahead and swap it our for fresh litter.

How do I cancel my Pretty Litter subscription?

To cancel your Pretty Litter subscription, email [email protected] or call customer service at (800)838-3381. You can also do this by logging into your account online.

What is Pretty Litter’s Shipping Policy?

During my Pretty Litter review of the brand I found that they only deliver within the US and Canada. Shipping to the contiguous states is free. For others, the cost varies by location and will be displayed at checkout.

Order processing takes about 1 business day for both countries. As for timing, you should expect your Pretty Litter package to arrive within 3–5 business days.

What is Pretty Litter’s Return Policy?

Your first bag of Pretty Litter is risk-free. That means your cat can test it out for 30 days and if you’re not satisfied with the results, simply send it back for a full refund.

Once you make your return request, Pretty Litter will send a prepaid return label and you’ll have 7 days to ship your package back.

After the window for this risk-free offer has closed, Pretty Litter is non-refundable. If your bag arrives damaged, let their customer service team know immediately so that they can send a replacement.

Pretty Litter Shipping update

Your article was very informative, thank you for the research. I would like to add the shipping policy advertised is only for the 1st order. Once you have a subscription or have additional orders. It can take up to 30 days to receive your order within the US. Example – I placed my 2nd order on 9/10, as of 9/19 it hasn’t been shipped, there’s no time frame. When I contacted customer service, last week, they said it should ship in a day or two. It’s unfortunate there shipping policy is misleading, it should state for first-time customers only. Not only that, you can do expedited shipping on your 1st order & cannot do expedited shipping on any other orders, per customer service. I have that in an email response from them. I like pretty litter, however, customers should know the true shipping practices.
