About Rad Power Bikes

Rad Power Bikes Review

Riding a bike is an easy way to get where you’re going, only, it’s not always that easy. I’m all for hopping on my bike, but I shy away from some destinations because of the distance, not to mention wanting to avoid a sweat-soaked shirt.

The solution? Public transport, Uber, or take the car—which, when I think about trying to minimizing my carbon footprint, aren’t really solutions at all.

Electric bikes are an option that have caught my attention, giving me the freedom to peddle when I need to and stop when I don’t. Rad Power Bikes is North America’s most prominent electric bike brand. The company caters to the conscious consumer who wants an eco-friendly method of transportation.

Rad Power Bikes have been featured in many notable publications, including The New York Times, Forbes, and Gizmodo. The company has won numerous awards, including Best Places to Work in Seattle, Internet Retailer‘s Top 1,000, Forbes 30 Under 30, and 50 Tech Companies To Know.

What can you expect for this Rad Power Bikes review? I’ll explore the brand and its products, as well as customer ratings, promotions, and more. Hop on and let’s get this thing moving.

Overview of Rad Power Bikes

 Rad Power Bikes Review

Mike Radenbaugh created Rad Power Bikes. In 2007, Mike built his first e-bike as a way to get to high school and back and it wasn’t long before he became known as “the e-bike guy.” After piecing together a smart solution to a brutal ride to school, he continued developing e-bikes to meet the needs of his customers.

It wasn’t until 2015 that he joined forces with Ty Collins, a friend and marketer, and brought the Seattle-based brand to the masses. Its starter campaign raised $320,000 in the first 30 days, so it’s safe to say there was definite interest in his designs.

The mission of Rad Power Bikes is to “offer an unrivaled customer experience with radical electric bikes that are built for everything and priced for everyone.” The brand vision is of a world where transportation is energy efficient, enjoyable, and accessible to all. E-bike prices can get pretty out of hand, so I value this approach.

Rad Power Bikes values are labeled as RADICAL: Responsible, Accountable, Diverse, Innovators, Customer-driven, Approachable, Learners. I think that’s pretty clever.

Now that you know a little more about the face behind the brand, this Rad Power Bikes review will keep chugging along. Let’s take a look at the pros and cons first then jump right into these radical e-bikes.

Rad Power Bikes RadRunner 1 Review

I don’t often travel light. My backpack weighs a ton and I often stop to pick up more things along my journey. That’s why if I’m going to get an e-bike, it needs to have cargo space.

The RadRunner 1 is the winner of several notable awards, including Best Value Cargo Bike 2020 and Best Utility Electric Bike of 2021. The bike wasn’t built just for utility, though.

This bike is made for customization, with a total of 330 accessory combinations. Yes, you did read that right, your RadRunner 1 can be uniquely yours. Accessorize to your heart’s content to truly expand the bike’s functionality.

And get this: the RadRunner 1 is the very first e-bike to have an adjustable driver’s seat. Keep the seat low, so your passenger can snuggle up close, or raise the seat up to get proper leg extension while pedaling.

The specs of the bike oil down to a 750W geared hub motor, up to 45+ miles per charge, a 48V 14Ah lithium-Ion battery, and a 300lb capacity. Get to where you need to go with ease and style with the RadRunner 1 for $1,199.

Rad Power Bikes RadRunner Plus Review

Even though I think they’re worth it, e-bikes are kind of a splurge for me. That’s why I appreciate designs like the RadRunner Plus that have space for two—meaning I don’t have to get a separate bike for my partner and I to enjoy a cruise.

The RadRunner Plus is a head-turning electric utility bike that comes fully-loaded with all-new upgrades and accessories. If you’re craving a premium e-bike experience, this is the ride you’ve been waiting for.

The RadRunner Plus is built to help you take on any hill, explore roads less traveled, and with a stylish passenger package, you and a friend can put the “joy” in “joyride.”

These wheels retail for $1699, sporting a free-spirited retro design combined with performance and panache. This model has a 7-speed drivetrain, suspension fork, and a high-quality headlight.

I love that you can ride in comfort with the extra-wide front and rear fenders, with a backlit LCD to track your speed and distance.

Rad Power Bikes RadWagon 4 Review

Traveling in a car is so easy. With space for all my stuff, I don’t have to worry about juggling it as I head up a hill like I would on a peddle bike. But cars have their limits too, and unless you drive an electric, your carbon footprint skyrockets.

That’s why I’m kind of obsessed with the RadWagon 4, I can let it do all the heavy lifting. This bike is the most robust and versatile version of the RadWagon yet. It features smaller, innovative tires developed by an expert team of engineers to achieve a low center of gravity.

The new frame design ensures multiple adjustability points including a telescopic seat post and easily maneuverable handlebars. This next-level hauler is designed for those loading up to go for a ride, whether that’s taking the kids on a trip across town or a weekend visit to the farmer’s market.

Heading out for a ride in the dark? This bike features integrated brake lights with strobe, reflective sidewalls for ultimate visibility, and super bright headlights to help you see ahead. This Rad Bikes model is full-priced at $1699.

Rad Power Bikes RadCity 4 Review

Biking to work makes a lot of sense, but depending on where you live, getting there can be a pain. I’ve biked to work a few times in my life but it’s not something I look forward to.

Winner of Best Commuting Electric Bike of 2021, the RadCity 4 is a commuter’s dream. The iconic commuter bike comes in a single, 18.5″ frame size to fit a wider variety of riders.

This model has been updated with swept-back handlebars designed to keep you comfortable on longer rides, mounted on its frame for an optional wheel lock.

The RadCity 4 lets you get across town like never before. You’ll power over hills with ease, and you’ll do it all in style and comfort with a stock rear rack and fender front suspension.

It also features puncture-resistant tires, reflective sidewall striping, and integrated brake light. Never worry about being late for work again with this bike for $1499. Search “Rad Power Bikes Radcity review” online for the inside scoop from customers.

Rad Power Bikes RadMini 4 Review

Don’t let the “mini” in its name fool you. The RadMini 4 is a rugged space saver. The bike can quickly fold when you need some extra room but this e-bike packs quite a punch when you’re ready for action and adventure.

I think it would be great for fitting through tight office doors in the morning then heading out for an after-work adventure.

This Rad Bikes design embodies power, convenience, and versatility. This heavy-duty bike features puncture-resistant tires, front and rear fenders, plus integrated brake lights. A folding telescoping handlebar stem enhances adjustability.

The e-bike also features a 750W geared hub motor, up to 45+ miles per charge, a 48V lithium battery, and a backlit LCD. Get the Rad Mini 4 and start the fun for $1499.

Rad Power Bikes RadMini Step-Thru 2 Review

The RadMini Step-Thru 2 is the winner of Best Folding Electric Fat Bike of 2020. This model encompasses Rad Power Bikes’ design philosophy to produce machines that combine power with ease, convenience, and accessibility.

It’s designed with a streamlined throttle and upgraded handlebars for a more comfortable, ergonomic ride. I read that this model features the lowest standover height of any Power Rad Bikes’ models. Add the adjustable handlebar stem, and the most robust folding mechanism ever built.

Add a twist grip throttle, suspension fork, and the strongest hinge ever made for a folding bike, and voila. You’ve got a remarkably accessible fat tire bike. Get this space-saving bike for $1499.

Rad Power Bikes RadMission 1 Review

Winner of Best Affordable Electric Bike of 2021, The RadMission 1 is a slick and stylish single-speed electric metro bike for city riders craving more excitement and utility. But don’t let its simplicity fool you.

This bike comes with a 500W high-torque motor and a 20-45+ mile battery range. The RadMission 1 is ready to handle any mission. Hills? For regular single-speed bikes, it would be gruelling. For this bike, not so much.

One of the many vital features I’m pumped about on the RadMission 1 includes the single-speed drivetrain promising comfortable riding and low maintenance. It’s ideal for last-minute trips across campus or zipping around town on an urban adventure. The lightweight bike weighs under 50lb, available for $1099

Rad Power Bikes RadRover 5 Review

The RadRover 5 is the winner of Best Electric Fat Bike of 2021. This bike is the go anywhere, do anything, e-bike of your (and my) dreams. This e-bike seamlessly blends rugged capabilities and exceptional comfort. It features 4″ fat tires and has a reputation for stability.

I think it’s ideal ride for off-road adventures, weekend spins, and everything in between. The bike boasts a backlit LCD, 750W brushless Bafang geared hub motor, and an intelligent 5 level pedal assist with 12 magnet cadence sensors.

With all these features and more, it’s no wonder the RadRover 5, priced at $1599, is the bestselling electric fat bike in North America.

Rad Power Bikes RadRover Step-Thru 1 Review

The RadRover Step-Thru 1 was built to go anywhere, do anything, and fit anyone. This bike is a low-step electric fat bike that combines rugged looks and capabilities with a new frame style that meets a range of riders’ needs.

With a lower standover height, the RadRover Step-Thru 1 makes it easier than ever to get on and get going, all without sacrificing power, strength, and durability. It’s the perfect intro bike for someone like me who’s new to the whole concept, plus, I’m partial to its classic color scheme.

With a 750W geared hub motor, up to 45+ miles per charge, a 48V, 14Ah lithium-ion battery, this 275lb-capacity bike is ready to help you step through to adventure for $1599

Rad Power Bikes Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Rad Power Bikes Review

It’s time to dive into the deep end. In this part of my Rad Power Bikes review, I’ll reveal what customers of the brand honestly think of Rad Power Bikes.

Before I officially dive into this Rad Power Bikes review, I should note that finding customer reviews outside the brand’s website was a challenge for me.

But let’s begin with the good. Rad Power Bikes boasts thousands of 5-star reviews on their site (with no option to filter reviews). Customers applaud the brand on the high-quality, diversity of the e-bikes, prices, and exceptional customer care. I’ve included a short list of ratings for some best-sellers below:

  • RadWagon 4: 4.6/5 stars, 1,623 reviews
  • RadRunner 2: 4.7/5 stars, 146 reviews
  • RadCity 5: 4.6/5 stars, 319 reviews
  • RadExpand 5: 4.8/5 stars, 75 reviews

One customer on the website wrote: “I bought a RadPower bike this year, and I’m so happy with it. The bike is great but what is as important to me (or maybe even more important) is that their support is superb. I can’t praise them enough. Very friendly, fair, and professional people.”

Rad Power Bikes Review

Another positive review on the Rad Power Bikes site loves their new transportation mode. “I love my Radwagon 4. It is great fun to ride…I haven’t used the new car for any around town errands. I get stopped almost every time I ride it by someone who wants to ask what it is and where I got it.”

Like I mentioned earlier in this part of my Rad Power Bikes review, I found it challenging to track down customer reviews outside of the brand’s website, so take these complaints with a grain of salt.

Here’s the thing: the primary concern amongst negative reviews is a lack of communication with customer service. Customers have stated they’ve reached out to customer service but are met with silence, waiting days for a response. Other smaller complaints regard issues with assembly and uncomfortable bike seats.

At the end of the day, I read many positive comments about this brand, and they far outweighed the negative. Rad Power Bikes seems to be a well-loved brand with dependable tech and durable features.

Are Rad Power Bikes Worth It?

Rad Power Bikes Review

Are Rad Power Bikes worth it? Ultimately, at this point in my Rad Power Bikes review, I think the brand is worth buying. The brand offers various e-bikes for all sorts of cyclists that serve a variety of functions.

Bikes range from casual weekend riders, cross-city commuters, and everything in between. I certainly think brand has a bike that will meet your needs. The price you’ll pay for one of its e-bikes is significantly less than what you would spend on a car, and less than many other e-bikes on the market.

Plus, using an e-bike is much better for the environment! Rad Power Bikes are also highly customizable with hundreds of accessories. There’s hundreds of ways to customize your bike exactly how you want it.

As I mentioned before in this Rad Power Bikes review, treat the negative comments with some skepticism. There are thousands of positive reviews on the Rad Power Bikes site that contradict the very few negative reviews.

Good places for eBike riding in Southern Missouri/Northern Arkansas?
Asked by Karl (1 year ago) Reply

Are there any trails that allow eBikes within 100 miles of Mammoth Springs Arkansas, West Plains Mo, or Doniphan Mo? Are there good sources where I could look up that information? Thanks!

Bike delivery
Asked by Tony Eddy (1 year ago) Reply

I purchased a bike listed as in stock now I find out it will take over three months to get it. Three weeks ago I was told it would be shipped in two weeks today they tell me that it will be another six weeks. They may have a good product but it is no good if they cannot deliver. My daughter was going to purchase 2 bikes and I told her not to if she wanted them this summer.

Horrible customer service, dishonest about delivery schedules, false reasons for being delayed
Asked by MacK (10 months ago) Reply

I ordered a Rad Mini 4 because I wanted a folding electric bike to take on travel, and according to them when I ordered it would arrive well before my departure – and I ordered the special front and rear racks. Rad grabbed my $1700+ and shipped the racks right away. But no bike… so I called them – response – well early next month (not June 30 as promised.) At this point their website was still promising my original delivery date, while on the phone they were humming-and-hawing and unable to say when. This went on for about 3 weeks. Finally it was going to have to be shipped to my first point on my travels – but uhhhh no, could commit to even delivery 3 weeks late.

One their website excuses, excuses. One was clearly dishonest, the blocking of the Panama Canal – for two reasons. First that was a 4 day wonder. Second, Rad is on the West Coast and the bikes come from China – they don’t go through either the Panama or Suez Canal (the West Coast is straight across the Pacific from China) – it was an obvious lie.

I gave up, demanded a cancellation and refund. This lasted to the day before my morning departure – they kept insisting on delayed refund, and only partial until the racks were returned. I threatened small claims case and pointed out that they’d had my money while I waited on the bike – they’d better give me mine and wait on the racks … and by the way, they could wait until after I returned.

I’m now back and looked at the shipping labels for the racks – “BILL SENDER”. Yes, Rad expects me to pay to ship these racks back to them. That’s not happening. They lied when selling me the racks that I’d have the bike to go with them in time for them to be useful to me.

As for customer service – largely useless.Slow to answer the phone, have no authority to do anything, have no knowledge of when bikes are going to be shipped, can’t provide any useful information. Mushrooms, kept in the dark and fed on….

Their onsite customer reviews are also sanitised to appear 5 star … it takes little searching to find a lot of angry customers. Their marketing person seems to think fibs and lies will solve the problem. It won’t.

Now what to do with those racks cluttering my hall….
