About Ryobi

Ryobi Review

Limiting Japan’s technological contributions[1] to just software and automotive advancements ignores the boundless creativity of the nation. The rice cooker, karaoke, and camera phone have made life easier and more enjoyable. Yet while those are all commonplace conventions some of their most valuable devices are slightly less common.

This brings us to power tools, which have more utility than just as musical instruments despite Hanatarash’s attempts to prove otherwise. The name power tool can intimidate some people, but thankfully Ryobi’s products turn these devices into practical appliances.

The Japanese brand serves a worldwide audience and has been in business for nearly 80 years, operating out of Hiroshima. In that time, their green and yellow brand image that is recognizable from a mile away have helped them gain a fanbase of devoted customers, as you can see by their nearly 1.1 million Facebook followers and over 276k Instagram followers.

In my Ryobi review, I’ll give you all the information you’ll need to know about this brand including its history, products, prices, and what customers have to say about them. I’ll also answer a few common questions so that you can decide if they’re worth it for you or not.

Why You Should Trust Us

Our mission is to help you make better, more informed purchase decisions. Our team spends hours researching, consulting with medical experts, gathering insight from expert professionals, reviewing customer feedback, and analyzing products to provide you with the information you need.

Overview of Ryobi

Ryobi Review

You’ll find two common traits among most Ryobi tools: low prices and battery power. It’s these characteristics that have earned the company praise.

Though the Ryobi company has been around since 1943, their power tools department began nearly 25 years later. It wasn’t until 1968 that the brand entered the power tool market, becoming a global presence since then.

Many people turn to Ryobi when they need tools in a pinch because of how easy they are to find. That doesn’t mean that you can walk into a gas station and leave with a Ryobi lawn mower. In fact, The Home Depot is the only place where you can purchase their products. But since that carrier is so popular, it’s not too hard to find what you’re looking for.

Ryobi offers a great balance between price, usability, and power. Their batteries form the backbone of their enterprise as the majority of their tools lean heavily on them, meaning that you’ll have the convenience of a cordless drill if you’re picking up one from Ryobi.

With all that said, let’s move on to some of the brand’s highlights.

Highlights

Ryobi Review
  • Less expensive compared to other hardware brands
  • Good power tools for beginners
  • Battery-powered, great for portability
  • Massive selection of products
  • Many of their items are covered by a three-year warranty
  • International shipping through The Home Depot

Ryobi’s product catalog is wide, long, and intimidating if you don’t know what you’re looking for. Not only do they have power tools, but they also carry standard tools, lighting fixtures, generators, cleaning appliances, storage containers, and more.

Up next in my Ryobi review, you’ll find a few of the company’s hottest products. Unless otherwise stated, all of the prices here come from The Home Depot’s website.

Ryobi Weed Wacker Review

The first product I want to highlight is a Ryobi Weed Wacker that can turn those dandelions that terrorize your lawn into dust.

Ryobi 18v One+ Hp Brushless 15″ String Trimmer Kit Review

The Ryobi 18v One+ Hp Brushless 15″ String Trimmer Kit is a beast of a weed whacker. Its brushless motor can disintegrate weeds in the blink of an eye without getting tangled in the mess. You can also adjust its speed and cutting width for a more precise trim.

Lawn care is an important aspect of home maintenance[2] and can greatly enhance the beauty and value of your property. It involves regular mowing to keep your grass healthy and lush. And Ryobi Ryobi 18v One+ Hp Brushless 15″ String Trimmer Kit can help you with that.

Its design has customer comfort in mind with a convenient front handle so that you don’t need to rely on grit to get through your task. You can pick it up for $229.

Ryobi One Plus Review

Next up is a product that exemplifies the advantages of the Ryobi One Plus battery system, which can be found in many of their products.

Ryobi 18v One+ Hp Brushless 8-1/4″ Table Saw Review

This table saw can give you clean cuts with the accuracy of an army sniper. The Ryobi 18v One+ Hp Brushless 8-1/4″ Table Saw has a 240 ft-per-charge maximum from its 4Ah batteries. It also can reach up to 4,500 rpm for an extremely smooth finish.

Beyond those specifications, this table saw contains a couple of subtle touches to make your job just a bit easier. It boasts a self-aligning fence, a blade height adjustment rack, and a rigid steel frame.

This saw can be yours for $339 regularly, but The Home Depot is currently offering it for a discount at only $289.

Ryobi Pressure Washer Review

If you’re a stain, a smudge, or a speck of dirt that’s reading my Ryobi review, then you should be quivering in your boots. The Ryobi Pressure Washer packs 2,000-PSI of raw power might through an onboard hose thanks to a 13-amp motor.

However, it can deliver even more of a punch if you outfit it with the Ryobi Turbo Nozzle that’s included. Attach it, and it will boost your cleaning power by 50%!

Simply put, if you have any mess anywhere, the Ryobi Pressure Washer can likely handle it. Sadly, this device isn’t currently unavailable but is coming soon.

Ryobi Mower Review

This Ryobi Mower has a battery-powered engine that can put other gas engines to shame. And that’s only a sliver of what this bad boy can accomplish.

This lawn mower can mulch and bag your grass at varying heights. You can position this mower between 1.5” and 4” so that you can handle overgrown grass and keep your lawn prim and proper.

When the job is done, you can fold this product away for easy storage. If all that wasn’t enough, you might be excited to learn that it only costs $299.

Ryobi 40v Battery Review

The next item to grace is a staple of the brand’s catalog. The Ryobi 40v Battery not only lasts longer but charges quicker than other batteries in their collection. In fact, this battery reaches its full charge in just 120 minutes.

This item uses fade-free lithium-ion power to supply juice to plenty of tools in Ryobi’s closet. It’s an instrumental purchase if you’re looking to expand your toolshed. Unfortunately, it’s not yet available on The Home Depot’s website.

Ryobi Miter Saw Review

Let’s close out the product highlights with this convenient little guy. The Ryobi Miter Saw is portable and versatile, designed for small jobs rather than massive undertakings. That’s why it doesn’t weigh much nor does it take up too much space.

That being said, it’s no slouch in terms of versatility. The Ryobi Miter Saw has a 2×4 cutting capacity and 45° of articulation. It also boasts 4.25” of cross-cut capacity.

The only downside to this saw is that it’s currently unavailable, though it shouldn’t stay that way for long.

Who Is Ryobi For?

Ryobi Review

The target Ryobi market is the everyman, the common folk who want to accomplish a few tasks around the house without breaking their wallet or their spine. These tools are built for versatility and durability and are all reasonably priced.

Ryobi Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Ryobi Review

To find out if Ryobi’s products stand up to how they are advertised, I scoured the brand’s website to see what customers had to say about the products you read about today. Overall, it seems that people were pleased, as shown by the average product scores:

  • Brushless 15″ String Trimmer Kit: 4.9/5 stars from 36 reviews
  • Brushless 8-1/4″ Table Saw: 4.9/5 stars after 10 reviews
  • Miter Saw: 4.8/5 stars from 78 reviews
  • Mower: 4.7/5 stars after 3.3k reviews
  • Electric Pressure Washer: 4.6/5 stars from 4.8k reviews
  • 40v Battery: 3.5/5 stars after 4 reviews

While those numbers are impressive, there were more Ryobi reviews I had to consult with to get a fair perspective of the brand as a whole. I checked out Site Jabber where the brand has earned an overall score of 4.4/5 stars from 464 reviews. Safe to say this is a well-liked brand.

Overall, positive Ryobi reviews praised the brand for its affordability and ease of use. People said that they were a good starting point for power tools because they were less expensive than other companies while also being more natural to maneuver, mostly because they were battery-powered. Here’s how one shopper put the Ryobi Pressure Washer to good use:

Cleaned my entire house windows and siding for the first time in 8 years. Wow looks like a new place. Cleaned my pool cover, use to break my back with a broom and garden hose, the stuff looks brand new. For an electric pump, it has more power than I would need. Does a great job and don’t have the constant motor noise going the whole time.

Many Ryobi products, like the Ryobi Miter Saw, were generally seen as being beginner-friendly. I’ve pulled this Ryobi review from the brand’s website that mentions this:

“I am a new homeowner and had no experience using power tools prior but this was perfect for all the small DIY projects around our house. Also, this saw was compatible with other Ryobi tools that use the same battery pack!”

One common criticism is that Ryobi’s tools are cheap, both in price and quality. While I cannot deny the first bit since their items are usually less expensive compared to other manufacturers, the second part is more subjective.

Negative Ryobi reviews claimed the brand produces subpar tools, but that’s not how everyone views them. Here’s one impassioned comment left by a Reddit user that described how many Ryobi customers view the dilemma.

“We get it! Your expensive tools are better. But have you tried the Ryobi tools in that price range too? Because the brushless stuff and higher quality tools rock. I love all of my Ryobi tools. There is not one tool that I wish I had a different brand.”

Many other users in the thread agreed with that review, saying that they like the quality that Ryobi delivered for their prices.

In general, customers felt that Ryobi’s products were a fair balance between cost-effectiveness and utility. There were some points of disagreement, but overall most people felt that Ryobi was the best brand to go to if you want a tool that won’t drive you into debt.

Is Ryobi Legit?

Ryobi Review

With a long history and many satisfied customers, I believe Ryobi is a legit company. Now, there is something worth mentioning. The brand is offering buyers the chance to win a $1,000 gift card to The Home Depot if they write a review for one of their products.

I’ve read through the terms and conditions for these sweepstakes which is why I’m not saying that this contest is an attempt to garner false praise. The only requirements to enter the contest are:

  1. You must post a review within the allotted time (January 2022 to December 2022)
  2. Your review must be at least 50 words long
  3. You must live in the United States or Canada

Since that criterion doesn’t say that you have to write a positive Ryobi review, I don’t deem it to be sketchy. However, I can see why it would turn some people off.

Is Ryobi Worth It?

Ryobi Review

I’m at a bit of a crossroads. On one hand, and let me make this clear, I think that Ryobi is at least worth looking into if you’re an average joe who needs the tools to finish the job. You simply can’t beat the brand’s prices and flexibility.

On the other hand, professionals may want to shop with other brands that provide them with more durability or longevity. So depending on who you are, Ryobi is worth it.

Ryobi Promotions & Discounts

Ryobi Review

If you’ve made it this far into my Ryobi review, then you’ve likely already read the details of their review sweepstakes, so I won’t repeat too much of that here. Basically, you can win a randomly drawn $1,000 gift card to The Home Depot if you write a Ryobi review online. Your review will enter you into their sweepstakes.

Registering your Ryobi tool comes with a few quality of life benefits like expedited service and claim filing, but the main appeal is that you’ll also be entered into another sweepstake to win $10,000 in store credit.

The savings don’t stop there. Ryobi has a few online-only promotions currently running. These include:

  • A free Ryobi One+ 4AH Battery with the purchase of certain products
  • A free Ryobi One+ 2AH Battery with the purchase of certain products
  • A free Ryobi One+ Battery or Starter Kit with the purchase of certain combo kits or Bare Tools
