Overview of Stutterheim
Visiting his family’s homeland on the Swedish island of Arholma, Alexander Stutterheim discovered his grandfather’s old fishing jacket. These jackets were a staple in northern Europe and the UK, so they bring up happy memories for many who grew up near the ocean. Stutterheim decided to design a modern-day version of this cherished favorite.
The Stutterheim label was born in 2010 with their first batch of 200 black raincoats being made in the founder’s apartment. By 2011, the company grew so quickly that they doubled in size, opening a store in New York. The next year, Stutterheim launched the Stockholm rainjacket, which soon became their most popular style and the unisex cut most associated with the brand.
Stutterheim is now available in more than 1,500 stores worldwide for both its functionality and its timeless style.
Before I steer this Stutterheim review into a few of the brand’s core items, let’s take a peek at some of the highlights of this rain gear.
- Raincoats, footwear, and accessories for everyone
- Free worldwide shipping
- Stylish and functional
- US location
- Rain gear that lasts
- Made for everyday wear
Stutterheim Raincoats Review
Although the label has many colors and details that make them different from one another, they have just two basic styles of Stutterheim raincoats: Stockholm and Mosebacke. Both are based on the original fisherman jacket style but Mosebacke is an A-line cut, better suited to women. Stockholm is a straight cut and is unisex. Let’s talk a little bit more about each.
Stutterheim Mosebacke Light Sand Review
The old-time fishing jackets were made specifically for men, so even when modernized, they are at best unisex. For a more feminine silhouette, the brand created the Mosebacke style, with an A-line cut. The Stutterheim Mosebacke, available in several colors, is a part of the label’s core collection, and they always try to keep it in stock.
This raincoat is not lined, so I think it is probably better for milder weather. It is made from a unique rubberized cotton fabric that is waterproof and long-lasting. It is also hand-made and goes to about the mid-thigh. This jacket comes in sizes XXXS to XL. Pull this one on for $295.
Stutterheim Stockholm 3-in-1 Light Sand Review
Winter months in wet cities and countries mean not only trying to stay dry but trying to stay warm. The Stutterheim Stockholm 3-in-1 has you covered. Literally. Available in several colors, this unisex jacket is a raincoat, padded coat, and parka all in one. The lining is 100% polyamide with 100% polyester padding for warmth.
The padded liner zips onto the usual Stockholm rain jacket making it cozy and warm for the colder months. To accommodate both men and women, sizes come from XXXS to XXL. Make the most of the dark, wet, colder days of the year with this 3-in-1 stylish jacket for $325.
Stutterheim Rain Boots Review
Stutterheim has one style of boot, the Chelsea Rainwalker, which comes in 8 colors. Let’s discuss this best-selling pair of Stutterheim rain boots and their attributes.
Stutterheim Chelsea Rainwalker Blk/Green Review
This boot is reminiscent of a wellington boot that stops at the ankle. For comfort and fit, it has an elastic side panel and pull-tab, like any standard Chelsea boot. So, it’s very stylish and ultra-comfortable. In truth, they are more comfortable than most rain boots, as they are made to form to your foot, not loosely accommodate it, like most.
What makes these boots so stylish is the Chelsea style and the contrast sole. For sizes, they are available in women’s 6-10 and men’s 7.5-11. The 8 color contrasts include black/green, black/white, aloe/black, and more. The outer material is 100% rubber and the lining is 100% cotton.
Even though they are stylish, you shouldn’t forget that they are also good-quality and keep your feet dry and comfortable. Step into a pair for $165.
Who Is Stutterheim For?
The brand is really for anyone who can afford them and in an area where it is wet enough to get good use out of them. There is no point in spending that sort of money if you live in the desert. On the other hand, if it only rains a few times a year, you’ll still appreciate how dry Stutterheim will be able to keep you.
Since most Stutterheim rain gear is unisex, this brand is for anyone and everyone. While their jackets are made in a wide range of sizes, their boots are a little more limited. They only make standard sizes of the boot.
Stutterheim Reviews: What Do Customers Think?
As they do not have ratings or reviews on their website, for this Stutterheim review I had to dig deep to find ratings, although reviews were available at a couple of the brand’s retailers. Over a few websites, I was able to find some rankings for the Chelsea Rainwalker, but only one review.
- Amazon: 5/5 stars from 1 review
- Bootz: 4/5 stars after 9 reviews
- Amazon: 5/5 stars from 1 review
The one Stutterheim review of the boots that had comments mentions the benefits of the boots. The fact that they are waterproof is obviously a given. She says: “Great look, great fit!
These Chelsea rain boots fit perfectly and they feel very comfortable. They also look gorgeous on the feet!”
The brand’s jackets are a timeless style that should last you through different trends over many years. On Altitude Sports, this jacket is rated 4/5 stars from 23 reviews.
One customer wrote:“Stylish and well-made jacket. Wore this for a Melbourne winter and it was perfect. The material is very thick and I liked the ‘industrial welded seams.’ The length is about mid-thigh and I bought it because an outdoor shell is much shorter and covers less of my body. It is simple, but I think it will stay in style for years to come.”
On Trustpilot, Stutterheim rated 2.9/5 stars over 25 reviews. The biggest complaint seems to be about poor customer service, leading to the low rating. On the other hand, some, like the review below, found the customer service okay. According to the reviews I found online, it seems to be hit-or-miss. It only seems a big issue on Trustpilot.
One customer wrote how happy they were with their purchase: “I love it. LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Stylish, perfect fit. Gorgeous color selections made it hard to decide but I am SO happy with the green I selected. It is beautifully made and is a truly luxurious raincoat (who knew there was such a thing?).”
They went on: “The customer service I have experienced has been straightforward but supportive (I neglected to add my discount code and they honored it after the fact). The returns form/customs form with ALL pertinent information was sent to me BEFORE I even received the item reassuring me that I would not be stuck with it should I not like it.”
This was just one example of a customer who said that their first purchase from Stutterheim would be just one of many future purchases. Overall, Stutterheim’s customers all over the world and on the internet seem to adore their products for their style and durable quality. Mileage may vary with customer service, but honestly, I’m not too concerned.
Is Stutterheim Worth It?
From what I found during this Stutterheim review in terms of customer reactions, this brand is worth your money. They offer quality products that are meant to last, despite being worn every day. Their products are timeless, so you don’t have to worry about your raingear going out of fashion.
So, yes, while their raincoats may be expensive, they are made by hand and should last long enough for them to be worth the expense for you. On top of that, the price of the boots is quite reasonable for a quality boot.
