An iconic fashion accessory, head wraps recently made a return to popularity. This is due in part to stylish businesses like The Wrap Life, who brought back the pride and joy of wearing them, with modern appeal and eco-friendly fabrics.

The Wrap Life enjoys an almost 145K following on Facebook and has been covered by a lot of mainstream fashion and lifestyle media. These include Oprah Daily, Glamour, Fashionista, Yahoo!, Today Show, and New York Magazine, to name a few.

My The Wrap Life review will take a deep dive into this brand so that you can make an informed decision before you buy. I’ll do this by checking out their promotions, products, customer reviews, and all those relevant FAQs.

Overview of The Wrap Life

The Wrap Life Review

When waitress Nnenna Stella found her life had become stagnant, mainly due to work being unfulfilling, she decided to try other things like real estate, photography, and acting.

Nothing stuck so she tried a reevaluation of her strengths, weakness, and what makes her happy. After the month-long self-journey, Stella came out with a renewed sense of self.

This new, confident Nnenna Stella felt like a new look so she took a scarf and wrapped it around her head.

Coming from Arizona, she was used to Black women all straightening and chemically altering their hair. In Brooklyn, she saw something different. There, Black women were celebrating their natural hair.

Stella’s scarf-wrap fit into this pride and self-love found in Brooklyn and her look immediately gained compliments.

So, she went on a mission to find actual headscarves that she could style the way she wanted. And here is where she found her purpose, what she was good at, and something she could be passionate about.

After literally days of Googling, she found nothing. Being the smart, passionate woman that she is, she decided to teach herself what she needed to know to navigate the online business world.

She also took sewing classes and sourced colorful materials from African stores in nearby Harlem.

Starting in 2014 in the backyard of a brownstone in Brooklyn, The Wrap Life is now a thriving business that makes head wraps, turbans, turbanettes, scrunchies, and bandies in a range of flattering and colorful hues.

They have gained the attention of the media for being a successful Black business and for offering what is now a much-loved, popular fashion accessory.

Before this The Wrap Life gets into some of this brand’s lifestyle accessories, let’s take a look at what makes them special.

The Wrap Life Head Wraps Review

The Wrap Life headwraps come in three styles – pleated, ribbed, and printed. You get a selection of colors and prints that primarily, but not only, flatter Black skin tones and update seasonally. In my The Wrap Life review will check out a couple of these best-selling head wraps.

The Wrap Life Pleated Head Wrap Review

For more than 100 years, head wraps have come and gone in popularity.

One of the world’s biggest celebrities of the early 1900s and style icon Josephine Baker was often photographed wearing them with dressy outfits, showing the world how fashionable and versatile they are. She wore them with the same pride as she had for her Black heritage.

The 70s saw African headwear as a sign of pride, but not as much as a fashion statement.

With The Wrap Life Pleated Head Wrap, headwear return to being a fashion accessory and a sense of pride like in Baker’s time. It is made from 100% polyester, which is durable and soft. They are lightweight, large at 40”x72”, and have two-side visibility.

These beautiful headwraps come in your choice of eight colors, mainly along the red spectrum from brown to rose, with hunter green and sienna if you are looking for a more bold style.

The breathability of the fabric makes the Pleated Head Wrap ideal for hot weather. At $31 it is at a price that you can easily wrap your head around.

The Wrap Life Tencel Head Wrap Review

For a dressier option, The Wrap Life Tencel Head Wrap has you covered. Made of 70% Tencel and 30% viscose, it’s eco-friendly and has the feel and shine of silk.

The shine is only visible on one side but it is enough to add some real glamour to your look. All The Wrap Life headwraps can be worn to cover your whole head or to show off your awesome hair.

The Tencel Head Wrap is 19.5”x72” and comes in your choice of eight colors, some bold like marigold and cherry, while others are more neutral like denim and carbon. You can easily add some glam to any look with this headwrap for $42.

The Wrap Life Turban Review

The Wrap Life turbans are a selection of seven satin-lined full-head coverings. The more versatile turbanettes come in three styles and a variety of colors. Up ahead in this The Wrap Life review, I’ll check out a couple of these best-sellers.

The Wrap Life Ribbed Satin Lined Turban Review

Intended for full coverage of not too voluminous hair, The Wrap Life Ribbed Satin Lined Turban’s fabric doesn’t damage hair because it’s frictionless.

It is easy to style as it’s one continuous strip with a bit of spandex so you put it on, twist, and style. The spandex also should help it stay on if you don’t have hair.

The size is 24.5”×12”×13.5” and it comes in a variety of fun colors, including jet black, sage, marigold, amaranth, lapis, and adobe. You can slip this ribbed beauty on for $45.

The Wrap Life Ribbed Turbanette Review

While turbans are stylish, turbanettes give you the ability to get really creative with your hair. Lightweight and ribbed, The Wrap Life Ribbed Turbanette just slips on and off.

It is up to you to style your hair around it in a way that shows off the best and truest you. These are ideal for any hair, whether short and tight or long and volume-blessed, as they are great highlighters.

This turbanette is 23” in circumference, has 5% spandex for a good fit, and is pre-tied. It is available in kola, indigo, chestnut, clay, noir, and citrine. You can highlight your own natural beauty with these turbanettes for $16, previously $21.

Who Is The Wrap Life For?

The Wrap Life Review

The Wrap Life is for anyone looking for stylish headwear. Some styles are unisex, so men are covered too.

Although these headcovers were originally designed for Black people, there is no reason that anyone couldn’t look great in them. Some customers mention enjoying them as an empowering and fashionable accessory to cover their hair loss.

The Wrap Life offers free tutorials on the many ways to wear a head wrap. It isn’t an issue with any of their other products but you should be aware of appropriation before you wear it if you aren’t Black.

If it is worn respectfully, with an understanding of the culture behind it, and fits with your personality, Nnenna Stella would love for you to enjoy her fashionable passion.

The Wrap Life Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

The Wrap Life Review

So, here we are at the part where I check out what The Wrap Life reviews from their customers have to say about the brand.

From 44 reviews on Google, the Leopard Print Headwrap has a score of 4.7/5 stars. One customer (of many) loves the versatility combined with the cover-up abilities:

“It’s the bomb. I am in love. The material is divine and feels so luxurious on my bald head. I suffer from Alopecia and really love changing up my looks. I will be a return customer. I will post pictures on my Instagram page. I plan to wear it tomorrow. 😽”

So, they feel great and are versatile, but are they durable? According to this 5/5 stars The Wrap Life review on Facebook, they are. The customer quickly sums it up by saying, “Love her wraps, they are good quality and wash well!”

What’s really great is that even a more subtle color, like rose, takes a wrap from okay to wow. This reviewer from the brand’s website says just that:

“Strong Yet Delicate. I love this color. When I opened it I laid it next to a top I was about to put on. I decided to wear it and change my day style to a very upbeat look. I received several compliments. The length is just enough.”

For those of you who may be nervous about headwraps because you don’t know how to style them, there are tutorials to help on their website.

The important thing is that there is enough length to make any style work, even your own creations. This newcomer The Wrap Life reviewer explains how easy it is to look fabulous. They say:

“FIRST TIME USING HEAD WRAP – I’m new to head wraps, so I’m glad I found Wrap Life–thanks to the tutorials, the descriptions about each type of wrap, and the product care instructions, I haven’t been in over my head. And the colors they sell here are so beautiful, and match great with almost any style.”

Before I wrap up this section, let’s see what the product ratings tell us:

  • The Wrap Life Tencel Head Wrap – 2 reviews – 5/5 stars
  • The Wrap Life Pleated Head Wrap – 47 reviews – 4.9/5 stars
  • The Wrap Life Ribbed Satin Lined Turban – 5 reviews – 4.8/5 stars
  • The Wrap Life Ribbed Turbanette – 2 reviews – 5/5 stars

As you can see, people are pretty happy with The Wrap Life products. There were no concerns – with only one complaint – in about nine years on the Better Business website, which was resolved satisfactorily. The BBB gives the brand a superb score of A+.

Where to Buy The Wrap Life

The Wrap Life Review

At present, The Wrap Life’s website/digital shop (thewrap.life) is the best and only place to get their head accessories.

They seemed to be on Amazon and at Target in the past, so perhaps they are using those outlets for selling old stock when they get new styles in. The last chance sales section of the brand’s website may be a better option in any case.
