About Thermacell

Thermacell Review

As an experienced camper, spraying on mosquito repellent is easily one of the top 10 things I hate about the outdoors. Sticky, smelly, and oftentimes inadequate in preventing bites, it’s become an annoying necessity for hikes and canoeing.

If you’re not fond of chemical-infused sprays, Thermacell offers an innovative solution for nature enthusiasts.

Designed as a machine, Thermacell provides a layer of protection around your personal bubble to ensure no unwanted visitors. This device is a popular pick amongst campers and hikers, as their Instagram page boasts an impressive 33.2k followers. Thermacell’s E90 was also featured on NYT Wirecutter’s top choice for best mosquito control gear in 2022.

Looking to make the most out of your outdoor retreat? If so, perhaps this device can help ensure a meditative experience.

Keep reading, as in this Thermacell review, I’ll take an in-depth look at the brand, its products, customer ratings, promotions, and more to help you decide if they’re worth checking out.

Overview of Thermacell

Thermacell Review

Ironically enough, the origin story behind Thermacell was far from the outdoors. If anything, you can say that the idea originated in a house bathroom. It began when founder Bill Schwabel acquired a portion of the Gillette company to establish his own business.

The decision to gravitate away from men’s care and into the world of outdoor equipment has yet to be explained, but nevertheless, the passion was still there. Thermacell officially launched in 1999 outside of Boston.

Before I jump ahead in this Thermacell review, let’s go over some initial highlights.

Highlights

Thermacell Review
  • Considered a spray-free alternative to traditional mosquito repellent
  • More ‘reusable’ compared to disposable spray cans
  • Provides refills on their website
  • Offers a 100% guarantee on select products
  • Positive customer reviews
  • Free shipping on orders $29 or more

You can’t stop and smell the roses if you’re doused in mosquito repellent. Infused with questionable ingredients, most formulas exude a chemical smell, which can often take away from the rich, fresh oxygen of the countryside. If you prefer to picnic in peace without mosquitos and the spray itself, Thermacell offers a convenient solution free of unwanted aromas.

Currently, Thermacell sells three types of mosquito-repellent machines. They also have tick control tubes and refills for their devices. Considered a great asset for camping, picnics, backyard barbeques, and other outdoor activities, I’ll highlight a few notable contenders to view next in this Thermacell review.

Thermacell Mosquito Repellent Review

It’s time to rethink those pesky insect nets and sticky bug sprays. Thermacell mosquito repellent machines are designed to provide users a peace of mind. If you’re looking to invest in an upgrade, I’ll spotlight a few of their top sellers in this Thermacell review.

Thermacell Ex Series Rechargeable Mosquito Repeller Review

Skies out, thighs out: it’s the typical mantra for the summer season. Unfortunately, it’s also primetime for bugs to become their true annoying selves.

While most resort to nets and sprays as a way to ward off biters, the Ex Series Rechargeable Mosquito Repeller offers a more convenient solution for outdoor enthusiasts. Designed to create a 20 ft zone of protection, this machine is a godsend during the mosquito mating season.

It can last up to 9 hours, which is more than enough time for those preparing for a quaint picnic or an afternoon of fishing. Additionally, this machine is whisper-quiet in case you plan on leaving this bad boy on during the night. Powered by a lithium-ion battery, the Ex Series Rechargeable Mosquito Repeller retails for $50

Thermacell E90 Rechargeable Mosquito Repeller Review

Invisibility shields only exist in fiction, right? While the E90 Rechargeable Mosquito Repeller isn’t designed to save you from impending arrows and swords, it can help guard you from so-called ‘monsters.’ It’s programmed to provide 20 ft of protection, which is reportedly 80% more compared to traditional alternatives.

Set with fragrance-free liquid repellent, this lithium-ion-powered machine can help ensure a bite-free experience. It’s worth mentioning that it can even help block harmful viruses, such as West Nile and Zika.

If you’re tired of buying countless cans of mosquito spray every season, the E90 Rechargeable Mosquito Repeller costs a reasonable $50

Thermacell Mosquito Repellent Shield Lantern Review

It’s no secret that mosquito repellent is an eyesore. From bug nets to heavy-duty machines, it often takes away from the picturesque view of the countryside.

Of course, citronella oil candles are considered the most aesthetically pleasing of the bunch, but it does exude a strong smell—which isn’t the best option for those sensitive to fragrances. Case in point, the Mosquito Repellent Shield Lantern manages to combine style and functionality together.

Designed to provide 15ft of protection, it can last up to 12 hours. Additionally, the machine also works as a light, which is great for those looking to host a backyard dinner party. Price-wise, the Mosquito Repellent Shield Lantern costs $30 in total.

Thermacell LIV Smart Mosquito Repellent System Review

Mosquito hot spots are a real thing. It’s an unfortunate reality for homeowners who constantly deal with these types of insects, as no amount of sprays and bug nets can prevent impending bites.

If you’re looking to rid your living space of these nasty critters, the LIV Smart Mosquito Repellent System can provide a bigger bubble of protection. This set includes smart hubs, mounts, cables, repellers, and ground stakes.

Offered in various quantities, customers can choose the amount of insect protection they prefer. I’ll provide the price points for the LIV Smart Mosquito Repellent System down below:

  • 3-Repeller Starter Kit: $699
  • 4-Repeller Starter Kit: $799
  • 5-Repeller Starter Kit: $899

Who Is Thermacell For?

Thermacell Review

Simply put, Thermacell is for anybody who hates mosquitoes—which is almost everybody in the world. Compared to traditional repellants, their devices provide a thin layer of protection if you’re not fond of wearing sprays and insect nets. It’s worth mentioning that the brand’s machines are designed as a stationary unit, as you can’t carry products like the E90 on hiking trips.

Thermacell Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Thermacell Review

When it comes to insect repellents, customers usually rate products as a pass or fail. It either works or it doesn’t. Fortunately, I uncovered a positive consensus with Thermacell products. Reportedly useful in preventing bug bites, multiple buyers stated that it was a must-have for outdoor events.

Below, I’ll share some ratings for their best-selling products in this Thermacell review.

  • Ex Series Rechargeable Mosquito Repeller: 9 reviews with 4/5 stars
  • E90 Rechargeable Mosquito Repeller: 13 reviews with 4/5 stars
  • Mosquito Repellent Shield Lantern: 178 reviews with 4.5/5 stars
  • LIV Smart Mosquito Repellent System: 29 reviews with 4.8/5 stars

Reportedly effective in preventing mosquito bites, Thermacell machine repellents proved indispensable for outdoor activities. Customers stated that devices such as the Ex Series and the E90 helped provide a peace of mind, compared to afternoons swatting away insects.

“Since the install we have been able to enjoy our backyard and front porch 15 extra days out of a six week 30 day period. We have been outside stargazing until 1am with no Mosquito bites,” one customer wrote for the LIV Smart Mosquito Repellent System

“The price you pay for these (very reasonably priced) is well worth being able to enjoy the outdoors without being eaten by mosquitoes,” one reviewer detailed for the Mosquito Repellent Shield Lantern. “I now own multiple different models of Thermacell and never venture outdoors without one.”

To add to this Thermacell review, I decided to include some outside sources such as Home Depot and DigitalTrends. Both websites offer positive critiques of the brand’s products.

More specifically, Home Depot showcases a 3.9/5 star score based on 154 reviews for the Rechargeable Mosquito Repeller. Digital Trends, on the other hand, leaves a 9/10 star rating for the Radius Mosquito Repeller

Out in my backyard, the Radius also performed well. On one particularly buggy day, we were able to sit outside for hours and enjoy the warm evening without being ravaged by mosquitoes,” via a statement made by Digital Trends.

It doesn’t take much digging to figure out that Thermacell is a beloved brand amongst hundreds of customers. Despite the positivity shared online, I did uncover some negative remarks concerning customer service and product quality. I’ll be sure to provide more details on this in the next segment of this Thermacell review.

Is Thermacell Legit?

Thermacell Review

In regards to negative feedback, I found a limited amount worth mentioning in this Thermacell review. Some customers report that their mosquito repellent machines did not work at all.

Others stated that the battery life of the lantern proved insufficient.

Aside from manufacturing defects, you can relax knowing that the amount of positive feedback trumps the number of complaints online

Is Thermacell Worth It?

Thermacell Review

Bugs are usually the number one complaint associated with outdoor activities. In fact, their mere existence is enough to sway any vote on camping during vacation.

But for those adamant about scheduling a night or two at their nearest provincial park, Thermacell can act as a godsend.

Portable, affordable, and adept in preventing bites, it’s a non-intrusive alternative if you hate smelly sprays and insect nets. Of course, it’s not solely geared to camping, as Thermacell repellent devices can be used for picnics or casual neighborhood barbeques.

All in all, I can confidently conclude in this Thermacell review that it’s definitely worth checking out
