Overview of Dose of Colors

Dose of Colors Review

Makeup has always been about accentuating natural features, while fashion is more about expressing individuality. Dose of Colors combines the two with their diverse array of shades to match over 42 skin tones or lipstick to suit 41 different moods.

Founded in 2013 by Ana Petrosian, the brand was created as an inclusive approach to beauty, celebrating what makes each of us unique while providing the tools and quality products to encourage self-expression

Petrosian took her 10 years of experience in makeup artistry and applied it to the brand, formulating her products to be what she looked for as a professional and everything she craved as a makeup enthusiast and a human being

Dose of Colors Review

Inclusivity, creativity, self-confidence, and excellence are just a few of the pillars of the Dose of Beauty experience.

But inclusivity doesn’t just stop at the color chart, it also means accomodating the needs of everyone. That’s just one of the reasons Dose of Colors chose to make their entire line cruelty-free and the majority of their products vegan.

Choosing to formulate her products in the USA, the brand’s headquarters are also located in Burbank, California.

Dose of Colors Lipstick Review

The brand’s lipsticks come in a total of 41 shades, from modern neutrals to classic brights. We’ll give you a rundown of two of their best-sellers below – Truffle and Stone

Dose of Colors Truffle Liquid Matte Lipstick Review

In a luscious rose-cocoa shade, this Dose of Colors lipstick looks almost good enough to eat. Apply to exfoliated lips for an ultra-kissable pout that lasts for hours. With a soft-matte finish, this lipstick stays in place and won’t bleed or smudge

The Truffle Liquid Matte Lipstick has a precision applicator that makes reapplying on the go a breeze. Get stylin’ for $18

Dose of Colors Stone Liquid Matte Lipstick Review

Stone, as in stone-cold-fox. This Dose of Colors Liquid Lipstick is a pretty, soft pink that glides easily over your lips wet, then dries to stay in place for all-day wear.

A color that looks great on all types of skin tones, Stone is a pink with some edge to it. With a barely-there feel but rich, saturated color, this 0.16 oz lipstick is $18

Dose of Colors Foundation Review

Foundation is loved for its buildable quality. Apply as much or as little as you like to get the coverage you need. Below, you’ll read about the brand’s most popular foundation to help you achieve that coveted natural look.

Dose of Colors Foundation Review

Finding a foundation that doesn’t give that dreaded line around the corner of your face is one to be treasured. There are so many makeup brands out there that offer only 6-9 shades – as if that’s even close to matching the diverse beauty of every skin tone.

Dose of Colors made sure they were extremely inclusive in the creation of their Foundation, offering 42 unique shades in 6 different complexions: fair, light, light-medium, medium tan, dark, and deep.

With a shine-free, matte finish, swipe on a bit for sheer coverage or a little more for a full look.

Available in a 1 fl oz bottle, get your Dose of Colors Foundation match for $36

Dose of Colors Concealer Review

Concealer is the hero of cosmetics, hiding flaws and smoothing out your skin tone to create a flawless canvas. This Dose of Colors review will feature the brand’s amazing concealer below, available in an inclusive range of shades.

Dose of Colors Concealer Review

Every skin tone has a certain undertone. You can apply a concealer that may look similar to your skin, but if the undertone doesn’t match yours, you may end up looking a little yellow, pink, or even green.

Each Dose of Colors Concealer specifies what kind of undertones it has so you can match it correctly to yours.

Formulated with skin-nourishing ingredients like sunflower seed oil, shea butter, and Vitamin E, this concealer won’t dry out your face with all-day wear, instead, protecting and hydrating it.

Offered in 30 shades, a 0.25 oz tube is $24

Dose of Colors Eyeshadow Review

Eyeshadows are perhaps one of the most enjoyable elements of makeup. With seemingly endless colors, looks, and pairings, they allow for self-expression and variation. We’ll show you what caught our eye below in this Dose of Colors review.

Dose of Colors Sassy Siennas Review

A palette that has some heat to it! Sassy Siennas is a collection of five warm, earthy eyeshadows to bring life to your eyelids. Included in this collection:

  • Oh So Sassy – a warm, peachy color
  • Bossy – hot orange, like terracotta but a smidge brighter
  • Foxy – a light mahogany, this color mixes heat with a classic brown
  • Brassy – copper with rich brown undertones
  • Stay Sassy – rich, deep, and spicy like Mexican hot chocolate

The perfect summer selection, this powder eyeshadow palette contrasts with green eyes and spices up brown. Get it for $32

Dose of Colors Marvelous Mauves Review

Wintery and romantic, Marvelous Mauves is a delicate palette of powder shadows that adds depth and illumination.

From a tender lavender-pink to a deep purple-brown, this kit comes with five 0.06 fl oz shadows:

  • Fluffy
  • Rosy
  • Wish Washy
  • Spaced Out
  • Wine Stain

Use the deeper tones to create a smokey eye that’s blended up into a soft highlight. Cool and full of mystery, the Marvelous Mauves palette is $32

Is Dose of Colors Cruelty-Free?

Dose of Colors Review

With any luck, animal testing will soon be a thing of the past. To help speed up the process, you can do your part and buy from brands that don’t participate in this cruel practice.

We were happy to find that Dose of Colors has the cruelty-free sign of approval on their website. That means they don’t test on animals and all of the ingredients they source have not been tested on animals either.

Who Is Dose of Colors For?

Dose of Colors Review

Dose of Colors’ array of shades makes us believe that this brand is for a younger crowd who do the most experimenting with makeup, trying to find what works and how they want to express themselves

The brand also has a high-fashion feel, including matte finishes and chic eyeshadow palettes, including glitter and daring shades.

They’ve recently partnered with Disney to release the Donald & Daisy Duck collection of eyelashes, glittery Dose of Colors lip gloss, and flashy shadow palettes.

So, with all of that in mind, we’d say this is a brand suited for those 16-35 years old. But can you really put an age restriction on looking fabulous? We don’t think so.

Comparison: Dose of Colors vs. Stila

Dose of Colors Review

Stila is also a cruelty-free brand and their selection of products is quite similar when compared to Dose of Colors. Both brands have a Sephora-approved vibe, but the latter focuses more on helping customers find their right shade, as they offer a more expansive selection

We’re going to take a closer look at two comparable products, the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick and the Dose of Colors Liquid Matte Lipstick to sleuth out the differences.

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick comes in 22 colors, a nice mix of reds and pinks with some brown tones making their way in. Using Vitamin E and avocado oil to keep lips happy throughout the day, it has a soft-matte look to it that won’t bleed to transfer.

Taking a peek at Stila’s ingredients, we saw real beeswax, meaning this product isn’t vegan. It’s sold in a 0.10 fl oz tube for $22.

Dose of Colors Liquid Matte Lipstick comes in 41 shades, but they have a wider selection of browns and include bright coral and peach tones as well.

Boasting the same soft-matte look, this lipstick appears to have a drier look and doesn’t list if it contains lip-conditioning ingredients. The synthetic wax included also makes this lipstick vegan. 0.16 fl oz is $18

All in all, just like Dose of Roses, some of Stila’s products are vegan and their entire line is cruelty-free. They have a smaller color selection, but what they do offer is still very impressive.

Both brands list product ingredients and want to help people express what makes them unique.

Dose of Colors Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Dose of Colors Review

The company’s selection sounds nothing short of fabulous, but you may be wondering what their products are really like. If so, keep reading this Dose of Colors review to find out.

Hearing from customers who have used the actual products is an important part of any shopper’s decision to buy a product, so we’ve rounded up a variety of reviews from different sources around the web to help see the bigger picture.

Hitting up the brand’s website, we compiled several ratings of some of their bestsellers to help you get a general vibe for how they are enjoyed. While we would have liked to see a larger number of ratings, here’s what we found:

  • Matte Liquid Lipstick – 5/5 stars, 31 ratings
  • Foundation – 4.9/5 stars, 35 ratings
  • Concealer – 5/5 stars, 7 ratings
  • Blushing Berries Eyeshadow Palette – 4.9/5 stars, 35 ratings
  • Caviar Eyeliner – 4.9/5 stars, 28 ratings
Dose of Colors Review

Because Foundation is such an important element of creating a flawless face, we are going to be diving a little deeper into its buyer feedback.

Readers should keep in mind that none of Dose of Colors’ products has enough ratings to be trusted as reliable feedback, so these ratings may not be an accurate reflection of the brand, but they are real feedback nonetheless.

One Dose of Colors review for the Foundation read, “it looks just like skin! I also loved that when you order, they also send similar sample shades in case the one you ordered doesn’t match.” That is such a great idea and very beneficial for customers

Though there are no reviews below 4/5 stars and no complaints about the quality of this Foundation, the issue for customers seemed to be finding the right shade.

Dose of Colors Review

One frustrated buyer reported that “the tone was too light for my skin tone, it’s hard to find the correct tone base on the color displayed at the store online.” Being unable to try on a foundation is tricky for sure, so this could be an issue for some.

The Dose of Colors Matte Liquid Lipstick has a 4.6/5 star rating on Influenster, awarded to them by 5,137 shoppers.

Many customers say the lipstick is long-lasting and super soft, one revealing that it is “so pigmented and easy to apply. Comes in a large range of colors. They aren’t drying [and don’t] bleed around the lips.”

These are all things that the lipstick claims to do, so there’s no wonder there are so many positive reviews.

One of the most common issues customers had with the Matte Liquid Lipstick is that it dried “dry and patchy.”

Dose of Colors Review

A negative Dose of Colors review stated, “I did not like the texture, it is too thick, it transfers easily, it stains the lip edges, it is not long lasting.” Strangely, that’s everything opposite of what so many customers say it does.

Temptalia awarded the Dose of Colors Friendcation Eyeshadow Palette a rank of A- based on the following ratings:

  • Product: 8.5/10
  • Pigmentation: 9.5/10
  • Texture: 9/10
  • Longevity: 8.5/10
  • Application: 5/5
  • Total: 90%

Reviewing each shadow in the palette individually, the Dose of colors review said that for the color, Cheens, “The color payoff was opaque in one layer, while the texture was soft, velvety, and blendable without being too soft in the pan.”

Dose of Colors Review

This was common for other matte shadows as well, of which the review stated to be quite pigmented

Certain shadows like Just a Kiss, Dirty Money, and A Moment were said to have “some fallout over the eight hours” the reviewer wore them for. This isn’t too large of an issue, but it is worth noting.

There don’t appear to be many issues with any of the Dose of Colors products that we looked at. Even with some minor flaws, we’ve found that the brand’s makeup does what it claims to.

Is Dose of Colors Worth It?

Dose of Colors Review

In terms of product selection, price, and values, we think Dose of Colors is worth it. Customer reviews do not reveal any major red flags, with most loving the highly-pigmented colors, long-lasting quality, and easy-to-apply formulas.

The brand is cruelty-free, made in the USA, and has a ton of promotions. So far, we haven’t found a reason not to give them a try.
