About Altec Lansing

Altec Lansing Review

The crunch of a pack of peanuts. The crisp of a stack of pizza-flavored Pringles chips. The hiss of an opened can. The soft breathing into a microphone. Yes, these are all the hallmarks of an ASMR muk bang video, and if you don’t know what that is then consider yourself lucky.

However, none of these gratifying sounds mean anything if you don’t have the right set of headphones for the job. That’s why today I’ll be looking at Altec Lansing.

The American company is a household name among both audiophiles and those interested in sound engineering. It’s not just their earbuds that have garnered attention. The company’s speakers are just as noteworthy.

Altec Lansing currently has over 35k Instagram followers as well as a reputation built upon decades of excellence. They’re partnered with some of the biggest companies in the world and sourced some of the most famous events in history.

They’re a brand of pomp and circumstance, but do they have what you’re looking for? I’ll answer that question in this Altec Lansing review by examining their history, their products, their prices, their availability, and what customers think about them.

Overview of Altec Lansing

Altec Lansing Review

You may not suspect it based on how modern their technology is, but Altec Lansing has been around for over 80 years.

They formed when the Altec Service Corporation bought the Lansing Manufacturing Company back in 1941. That’s before Playboi Carti invented music in 2018 with his album Die Lit.

Altec Lansing has been a mainstay in music for decades. They provided the sound system for the Woodstock Music and Art Fair (yes, that Woodstock) in 1969 and for the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Olympics.

They worked alongside IBM and Apple to create speakers for the very first computers, docks for iPods, and speakers for the iPhone. That’s to say that the majority of the music you’ve heard in your life has probably come from an Altec Lansing speaker.

While their reputation speaks for itself, you might still be wondering how their speakers and headphones stack up to the competition.

Considering the fact that their products are still found in cinemas, concert venues, and cars across America to this day, I’d say they’re doing pretty well.

That being said, the next part of my Altec Lansing review will cover some of the most important aspects of this brand.

Highlights

  • A leading innovator in wireless speakers and earbuds
  • One of the most influential brands in audio development

Altec Lansing Headphones Review

This segment of my Altec Lansing review will focus on the items best suited for people who want to shut the world out.

These Altec Lansing headphones are among the brand’s best-selling pieces of merchandise.

Altec Lansing True Evo Wireless Earphones Review

Who has time for corded headphones in this day in age? We’re already tethered to enough attention-grabbers in our lives, both physically and metaphorically.

The Altec Lansing True Evo Wireless Earphones can free you from life’s vampiric tendrils and from ever having to untangle a cord again.

These earphones are available exclusively through Best Buy. That exclusivity denotes that they’re a cut above the rest of similar wireless earphones. I’m happy to say that’s true.

The Altec Lansing True Evo Wireless Earphones are waterproof and have a battery life that lasts 4 hours outside of their charging case. You don’t even have to keep your phone on you at all times while you’re listening to music because this item has a maximum range of 30 feet.

The charging case can recharge the earphones’ batteries four times before it needs a charge of its own. That’s a forgiving timeline, meaning you should never be without a soundtrack to your life.

The Altec Lansing True Evo Wireless Earphones can be yours for $100.

Altec Lansing Comfortq Active Noise Cancelling Headphones Review

Nobody commands more respect in the gym than the dude deadlifting 700 pounds with a pair of headphones draped over his ears, isolating him from the world and keeping him locked into lifting the ground beneath him.

The Altec Lansing Comfortq Active Noise Cancelling Headphones were designed with that behemoth in mind, but anyone with an appreciation for quiet time and physical activity can reap their rewards.

Their noise-canceling technology dampens all surrounding audio, allowing you to hear only what you want to hear. You can turn off this feature with a push of a button

A single charge grants these headphones 26 hours of uninterrupted listening time. They use Bluetooth for a wireless listening experience. However, if you do want to link them to your device manually then you can use the included cable to plug them in.

The Altec Lansing Comfortq Active Noise Cancelling Headphones are available for $100.

Altec Lansing Glow Run Earbuds Review

These earbuds are the perfect companion for late-night runs. Their wire houses LED lights that can project your presence to vehicles that may not see you in the dark of night. And don’t worry about them falling out of your ears because they’re fully wired.

The Altec Lansing Glow Run Earbuds hook around yours in a way that’s both comfortable and unobtrusive.

They’re great for sprints, long walks, half marathons, and everything in-between. These earbuds have a 6-hour battery life. That’s enough time for you to get lost on your run and find your way home afterward.

Plus, they’re waterproof, which is a huge advantage if you sweat like Shane McMahon in a Hell in a Cell match. The Altec Lansing Glow Run Earbuds can light up your night for $50.

Altec Lansing Speakers Review

These Altec Lansing speakers can elevate your bedroom raves from solitary confinement to private parties worthy of their own VIP list.

I’ll be focusing on some of the most impressive speakers in this section of my Altec Lansing review.

Altec Lansing Soundbucket Xl Review

This speaker allows you to spill your music over any venue like you’re tossing paint out of a bucket in a Splatoon match. The Altec Lansing Soundbucket Xl has quite a unique shape.

It’s a cylinder with speakers on every surface and LED lights, allowing it to broadcast its audio and some illumination across multiple angles.

One of the best features that sets this speaker apart from others is its house party function. It can connect with up to 50 other speakers of its kind. You can install an Altec Lansing Soundbucket Xl in every nook and cranny to transform any house into a rave.

That party will run long into the morning because this speaker has a 20-hour battery life. It also has a maximum range of 100 feet.

Elevate your next party to Project X levels with the Altec Lansing Soundbucket Xl for $200.

Altec Lansing Rockbox XL Review

This is a speaker for people who want the music to be the center of attention. That’s not just because the Altec Lansing Rockbox XL produces some of the clearest sound this side of the THX introduction. This speaker’s LED lights respond to music and vibrations, turning it into a visual marvel.

The LED lights can match the music’s beat, slowly fade between colors, rapidly oscillate between hues, or hold a solid color. You can take this light show to the pool because the Altec Lansing Rockbox XL is waterproof and it floats.

I don’t recommend using it as a boat, but definitely take it with you on your next cruise.

Much like the previous speaker in this Altec Lansing review, this item can connect to 50 other speakers of its kind. It has a 20-hour battery life as well as a smartphone charger.

The Altec Lansing Rockbox XL is available for $200.

Altec Lansing Baby Boom XL Review

The dilemma of the long-distance hiker is the dichotomy between interacting with the world around them or listening to Cryptopsy’s None So Vile

For as much as they’d love to hear the birds chirping and the wind blowing, they can’t fathom going a second without Lord Worm’s exquisite prose.

Thankfully there are products like the Altec Lansing Baby Boom XL. This portable speaker is light enough that you might even forget you’re carrying it. However, don’t think that means it isn’t tough. It can tough out mud, sand, snow, and rain like a champ.

This speaker has a battery that supports 6 hours of playtime. Those 6 hours could be the most bass-heavy of your life because this item has an active radiator bass speaker.

Pump up your travels with these Altec Lansing Bluetooth speakers for $30.

Who Is Altec Lansing For?

Altec Lansing Review

Altec Lansing’s intended audience is large and diverse due to the huge product catalog. They make affordable items that can fit into most people’s lives.

Additionally, their more luxurious products are better for people who don’t mind paying a bit more for premium sound quality.

Altec Lansing Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Altec Lansing Review

It’s easy to be intimidated by Altec Lansing’s legacy and instantly assume that their products must be what you’re looking after. It’s important that you remember what Oscar Wilde said in this instance: “When you assume, you make an ass out of you and me.”

I don’t know about you, but that’s not my vibe. That’s while I’ll be letting you know about some Altec Lansing reviews that customers have given. You’ll gain a better insight into what the company’s products are like so that you can prove Mr. Wilde wrong.

I sifted through the reviews on Amazon and found some interesting testimonials. The Altec Lansing Portable Bluetooth Speaker held an average score of 4.4/5 stars based on more than 1,200 pieces of customer feedback.

Many buyers complimented the device’s sound quality. They said that – especially given the speaker’s small size – it was powerful and clear. They loved using it for parties and other social events. One 5/5-star review had this to say about the speaker:

I have taken this to the beach, camping, back yard BBQs, and the kids used it on the trampoline…it’s nice so you don’t bother other people on the beach while you’re jamming and sun tanning… overall it’s fun to have especially when you’re hiking or on the beach just chilling and you can have it close to your person or on a table.

Altec Lansing’s sound was the most oft-complimented aspect of their products. I found more praise in this review of the Altec Lansing – Porta Portable Bluetooth Speaker on Best Buy’s website:

This Bluetooth portable speaker easily fits in your shirt pocket or ladies purse, but delivers a great and powerful sound! The bass woofer is exposed on the back of the unit, but it comes with a hard pocket case to protect it when not being used and it has two little feet that twist out to prop the speaker up during use.

Yet another customer said that the Altec Lansing ComfortQ Active Noise Cancelling Headphones were phenomenal in terms of quality, construction, and comfort. This is their review from the Home Depot website:

These are very well made and have really clear sound quality. I love the long-lasting battery charge and overall sturdy construction. They give me a firm but comfortable fit and have a great Bluetooth range. These have all the important features I need and also like the design and appearance. Great quality!

Some people complained that a few Altec Lansing products have a smaller active range than what was promoted. These criticisms never gave an actual measurement (I wouldn’t expect anyone to carry a measuring tape with them to check this), but they said that they felt the speakers should cover a larger range.

Overall, most Altec Lansing reviews from customers touted the brand’s ability to deliver pristine sound in small packages.

Their speakers and headphones surprised customers with their output. Fans also loved how they could bring Altec Lansing’s items with them and not worry about damaging them.

Is Altec Lansing Worth It?

Altec Lansing Review

A subpar set of speakers can be the difference between a great night with friends and an unwanted Merzbow concert. Based on what I gathered from customer Altec Lansing reviews and my own research, I can say that this company’s catalog is worth looking into.

They deliver consistent sound quality and their speakers are designed with the everyman in mind. Their earbuds are just as versatile as their speakers. It seems like Altec Lansing has a product for everyone.

FAQ

Who owns Altec Lansing?

The Infinity Group purchased Altec Lansing in 2012.

Does Altec Lansing ship internationally?

Certain Altec Lansing carriers like Amazon ship internationally. However, the brand themselves do not ship internationally according to their website.

What is Altec Lansing’s Shipping Policy?

I wasn’t able to find much information about Altec Lansing’s shipping policy because third-party distributors handle most of their products. The company will redirect you to a store locator page even if you try to buy directly from their website.

Some people may consider this a negative quality, and it would be in most cases, but Altec Lansing is popular enough that it shouldn’t be tough to find a distributor near you.

What is Altec Lansing’s Return Policy?

Similar to how other companies are responsible for shipping Altec Lansing’s products, the brand themselves do not publish information about returns. If you wish to return a product then you must consult with the location or retailer where you bought the item.
