Overview of Amouage

Amouage Review

Scents hold different meanings for everyone. It can call to mind past experiences, people, and feelings you can’t quite put words to.

But the truth about personal fragrances is that they’re usually not as unique as our distinctive moments call for—doused on by the droves and replicated by multiple brands to cash in on a popular scent profile.

The beauty of fragrance is in the story it tells, and the value of Amouage’s collection isn’t just in its original scents, but also its limited production. The brand, a subsidiary of the Omani SABCO Group, was founded back in 1983 in Oman, a country in the Middle East.

The brand was the official perfumer for the Oman Royal Family. Its fine bottles are an homage to one of the country’s historic symbols, the Oman dagger, as seen as the hilt-shaped nozzle on its men’s perfume bottles.

With a collection of over 50 scents, the brand has a total of 12 boutiques and is sold in more than 1k stores around the world.

Dying to find out what the brand’s fragrances are like? This Amouage review is about to dive into its expressive selection—but first, a quick sum-up of its highlights.

Amouage Epic 56 Woman Review

Amouage Epic 56 Woman has quite the write-up. It’s a concentrated scent that blends 56% “exceptional” perfume oil with a mix of eau de cologne, eau de toilette, and eau de parfum.

A deeper exploration into the Silk Road from its critically-acclaimed older sister, Epic Eau de Parfum, Epic 56 is aged for 5 months to concentrate the formula and result in a more powerful and revelatory scent.

Who Is Amouage For?

Amouage Review

A luxury fragrance brand, Amouage is for those who want a little more out of their perfume, but also who want a little more out of life. Fragrance directly correlates with enjoying the little things and embodies a privileged air of relaxation that usually comes from a carefree life and a certain high standard of living.

Now, we don’t all possess that kind of lifestyle, but scents capture it and in turn, inspire us to lean a little more into the moment and enjoy the small things. Amouage does this, perhaps even more so than lower-priced fragrances do, by blending high-quality elements that last through the day and produce intriguing scent profiles.

Is Amouage Ethical?

Amouage Review

There is a little mystery around Amouage, perhaps done intentionally to set the tone for its explorative fragrances. While browsing its website throughout this Amouage review, while the brand doesn’t go into depth about its production, we did learn that its philosophy aligns with ethical practices in the following ways:

  1. Making everything by hand locally to build up the community
  2. Treasuring their workers and investing in their futures
  3. Being aware of their environmental impact

Amouage Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Amouage Review

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, scents are personal. Our enjoyment of them depends on preferences, memories, and moods. With that said, there are some distinguishable qualities of a luxury perfume that set it apart from cheap alternatives, namely longevity, scent story, and the bottle they come in.

In this section of our Amouage review, we’ll take you through a variety of feedback gathered from around the web that speaks of these qualities and more.

We started our search at a website called Fragrantica. The site includes reviews for all kinds of fragrances from (what we understand to be) fragrance experts who really know their stuff.

We came across an Amouage review for its Boundless men’s fragrance that received an overall rating of 4/5 stars. Overall, buyers say the scent smells like herbal cigarettes—in the very best way possible.

It appears that Boundless’ first impression is “bright” and “beautiful,” and dries down to a “super addictive” smoky tobacco. People really like how smoky this fragrance is, but it’s the balance of spice, sweetness, and wood that makes this particular blend so appealing.

In terms of how long it lasts, another Amouage review revealed, “Can still smell this on my arm 8 hours later, longevity is good. Perfect amount of projection, it doesn’t overwhelm but it’s definitely noticeable.

From these two bits of information, the quality of the brand’s fragrance really comes through. You want a scent that’s going to last, especially if you’re paying a good amount for it.

For our next spritz of feedback, we headed to Parfumo.net to check out Interlude Man. The fragrance has an overall rating of 8.1/10 from 1,024 shoppers with individual scores in the following categories:

  • Longevity: 9.4/10
  • Sillage: 9.2/10
  • Bottle: 9/10
  • Value for Money: 7.1/10

This fragrance is adored by almost everyone who tries it, and we found one Amouage review that spoke of its quality and performance. It read:

You can definitely tell that the ingredients are of a much higher quality, and that drydown is ever so fantastic. Such a rich, vibrant, and sweet tone it leaves. Performance wise, it’s also second to none.”

The same review spoke of a “crazy” projection for 2 hours—meaning that for this particular scent, a little goes a long way. If you’re looking for a perfume that stays with you and makes an impact, this one’s a good pick, although the same can be said for the majority of Amouage fragrances.

In search of feedback for one of the brand’s women’s perfumes, we quickly sought out an Amouage review page on Influenster for Memoir

Memoir was awarded a 4.8/5 star score from 5 addicts, and we chose that word because each one raved about this scent. Take a look at the snapshot below to see for yourself:

  • 5 stars: 80%
  • 4 stars: 20%

Apparently, Memoir is a must-try. One buyer wrote, “This is one of my absolute favourite perfumes, and probably THE favourite from the house of Amouage. The longevity is quite good but the perfume is not particularly loud. It is truly a sexy, mystical and ‘dark’ scent.

One of the things we love about Amouage is that each scent is different, and not just in how they smell, but how they’re made, almost as if each one has a personality. Some are loud and bright, others gentle and deep…and that’s truly what the point of perfume is. They each tell a story, accentuate your personality, and create a mood.

Overall, what we learned in this section of our Amouage review was really impactful. And coupled with the scents we looked at earlier, has us dying to get a whiff of its exotic, yet familiar fragrances.

Is Amouage Worth It?

Amouage Review

Amouage is considered one of the more expensive fragrance brands in the world, so the question of if its scents are worth it is kind of a big one—but it’s also a question that’s dependent on how much you value a scent.

The brand’s products move beyond just ingredients, story, and who actually made the perfume. Each bottle is beautifully crafted to reflect the lavish concoction inside.

It’s about a feeling really, isn’t it? Perfume has the power to transform our energy or uplift our spirit, it’s something that’s worth a little investment if what you’re getting out of it is akin to a relaxing massage, luxury shopping trip—or whatever makes you feel good.

But more so, perfume provides a feeling that not a lot of other things can—it’s an experience. A 100ml bottle gives you approximately 1,500 spritzes. For a $480 bottle, that’s just $0.32 per spritz.

It’s not often that luxury brands have sales, their items are timeless and usually only increase with value as time goes on—and this is especially true with fragrance.

But even though throughout this Amouage review we didn’t come across any deals, the brand does have a newsletter to keep you abreast of any promotions it may have in the future.
