Here’s a fun fact. About 90% of every cleaning solution that we use to clean our homes is water. Add up shipping water, toxic chemicals, and using single-use plastic cleaners and we are making a huge impact on the environment.
Homethings wants to change that by offering non-toxic, eco-friendly, concentrated cleaning tabs with reusable, recycled plastic bottles.
As a UK company, Homethings has been touted as one of the best eco-friendly cleaners globally by the likes of The Independent and Country Living Magazine. When it comes to social media, they have a following of 17.4k on Instagram.
In this Homethings review, I plan to take an in-depth look at this brand and their products, promotions, and customer testimonials, all in the hopes of helping you make an informed decision before you buy.
Overview of Homethings
When two friends shared an apartment in the UK, they discovered that there just wasn’t enough space for everyone’s cleaning products under the sink.
With everything in single-use plastic bottles, not only was there no space but this was evidence of the environmental crisis that was/is affecting the world in general.
Tim Keaveney and Matt Aubrey were determined to find a solution to “clean up” their under-the-sink problem.
The first thing that they realized is that 90% of all cleansers are water. The water-diluted solutions cost more to ship and require single-use plastics. Thus, they developed and tested 5-gram tabs of concentrated cleansers.
They were looking for a non-toxic cleanser that has great cleaning capabilities. After many attempts, they found a formula. In fact, they found three.
With the belief that you only need three types of cleaners in your house, they launched Homethings in 2020 with an all-purpose, a bathroom, and a reflective surfaces cleanser. All you had to do was add water from the tap.
The idea took off in the UK and Homethings now make a laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent, and a floor cleaner. All their products are vegan, cruelty-free, and non-toxic.
They also offer subscriptions so you never have to worry about running out. Unfortunately, they only ship to the UK at present, but let’s hope that changes soon.
Before my Homethings review gets into these innovative cleaning products, let’s take a quick look at what makes this brand so special:
- Offers an excellent line of Eco-friendly cleaning products
- Non-toxic ingredients
- No water shipped
- Full cleaning without removing good bacteria
- Subscription service available
- B Corp Certified
Homethings Cleaning Products Review
Homethings cleaning products include three spray cleansers, a laundry detergent, a floor cleaner, a dishwasher detergent, and a sponge. All of these products are vegan, cruelty-free, and non-toxic.
With all of that in mind, this section of my Homethings review will check out the brand’s best-selling products.
Homethings Cleaning Spray Kit Review
With minimalism being so popular these days, it should be no surprise that many, including Homethings, believe that we only need three cleansers to cover all the surfaces of your house.
These are Allthings (all-purpose), Baththings (bathroom), and Shinythings (reflective). You get a tab of each in the Homethings Cleaning Spray Kit.
This kit also comes with three reusable bottles made of 100% recycled plastic. By sending the cleaners as concentrated tabs, without the water used to dilute it, less impact is made on the carbon footprint. And by reusing the bottles, we also lessen the damage.
On top of that, the ingredients are non-toxic.
Using citrus products for their anti-bacterial properties, these cleaners get rid of bad bacteria, while leaving good bacteria.
Toxic chemicals are not only harmful but tend to sterilize more than is healthy for us. Homethings designed these sprays to take the bad while leaving the beneficial.
Easy to use, you just drop a tab in one of the bottles and add water. The tab dissolves and away you go. Get tidy with the Homethings Cleaning Spray Kit for £18.
Homethings Dishthings Review
Okay, let’s dish the dirt – or should I say ditch the dirt. Homethings Dishthings are plant-based dishwasher tabs that include both the cleanse and rinse in one. This product is multipurpose and multitalented like most of Homethings offerings.
They come in a box of 40 tabs for only £10.
Homethings Laundrythings Review
Bio-based and 100% natural, Homethings Laundrythings’ comes in a box of 72 pods. You have the option of unscented or choosing to be a little more daring and opt for their lightly fragranced alternative.
Go green while washing your whites for £14.
Homethings Floorthings Review
Well, by now I’m sure you have noticed a pattern and don’t really need to be told that Homethings Floorthings are for your floors.
Just drop a tab into a bucket of water and there you have a lavender-scented, eco-friendly solution for mopping your floors.
Ta-da. Easy and eco-friendly, they come in a box of 20 tabs for a cool £8.
Who Is Homethings For?
Homethings are for anyone and everyone who cleans their home, which is everyone (hopefully). Even those who have others clean their house can benefit from their cleaners using this brand’s products. The Earth will definitely benefit.
The only place in the home that they may not have covered is wood flooring but that is a tricky one as different woods can require different cleaners.
Homethings Reviews: What Do Customers Think?
It’s time to pass the mic over to the customers and see what all of those verified Homethings reviews have to tell us about the brand.
Since they typically only sell through their website, there aren’t a lot of places online to find reviews, but I found a few to give us the bigger picture. On Amazon UK where they previously sold their dishwasher tabs, the detergent is rated 4.6/5 stars from over 100 reviews.
One Homethings review on Amazon titled “Worth switching to these” explains the disappointment of other eco-friendly brands in comparison:
“They really did the job, no complaints at all. I used them on a 40 degree cycle and all my dishes… came out looking as good as if I had used a leading dishwasher tablet brand. I am a convert”
With cleaning power as good as that, it comes as no surprise that out of 58 reviews on Trustpilot, Homethings is rated 4.6/5 stars. One Homethings review gave the full scoop:
“The dishwasher tablets we ordered worked well. Haven’t tried the other items yet. Nice to know we’re using more environmentally friendly products. More expensive that major brands but less harmful.”
On the brand’s website, the laundry pods are also making a splash with customers. One in particular went on to say:
“Pods from the gods. I love these little pods of loveliness! I love the fact I can control how much I use depending on how much washing I bung in my machine and the fragrance is great. What’s even better is knowing I’m not chucking any nasties back into our very fragile environment which desperately needs our help right now.”
“Pods from the gods” is quite the praise but it does emphasize how innovative these cleaners really are; eco-friendly and working as well as the leading toxic brands, these laundry pods appear to be the real deal.
The positivity train also pulled into Facebook station with a rating of 4.4/5 stars out of 21 review for Homethings. One new customer was absolutely blown away. Here’s what they had to say about the brand:
“Purchased my starter kit last week, I clean a lot! So ran out I ordered the tabs yesterday and they arrived this morning! Fantastic service. I love the smells they clean really really well, all things tackled a dried on curry blob on the cooker, I sprayed left for a minute it just wiped away.”
It’s safe to say that there are a lot of satisfied customers, which is highlighted by these product ratings:
- Homethings Cleaning Spray Kit – 202 reviews – 4.7/5 stars
- Homethings Dishthings – 398 reviews – 4.8/5 stars
- Homethings Laundrythings – 337 reviews – 4.6/5 stars
- Homethings Floorthings – 96 reviews – 4.8/5 stars
When searching for Homethings reviews from their customers, I noticed one very important thing: the brand responds to each and every review that they get to either say thank you or to help when someone has an issue, which are few and far between.
Truly, this is a brand that is passionate about their products and providing superior customer service.
