About House of Hackney

House of Hackney Review

“Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.” In an age of minimalism, William Morris’ quote may seem outdated, but for those maximalists who still exist, it says it all.

When you want decor that’s of luxury, Victorian-style with a modern twist that suits your outgoing personality, the House of Hackney is the place to go.

The House of Hackney has almost 30k Facebook followers and another 276k on Instagram. They are constantly getting mentioned in the media across the globe, including Elle Decor, Forbes, People, Town & Country Magazine, and Good Housekeeping, to name a few.

My House of Hackney review aims to take an in-depth look at this luxury interior design brand to see if they are worth your money before you buy. I’ll check out their products, promotions, customer testimonials, FAQs, and more.

Overview of House of Hackney

House of Hackney Review

When Frieda Gormley and Javvy M Royle set out to decorate their townhouse in Hackney, London, UK, they wanted something different from what was on offer from interior designer companies.

Not just different, but very different. They wanted to express themselves in their home but boring magnolia prints and minimalist designs were not their personalities.

To design the home of their dreams, they decided to create what they needed like wallpaper, fabrics, and eventually furniture. Since their personalities were bold and colorful, so were the designs that they came up with.

Drawing inspiration from British designs of Victorian times made popular by William Morris, they gave their designs a modern twist.

Although we may believe the British to be conservative and grey, many have defied the norms, as have House of Hackney.

Launched in 2011, it quickly became a very popular British brand, with beautiful designs of paisleys, flowers, animals, and leaves on boldly colored backgrounds. They draw from nature and enjoy being whimsical.

Starting online and with a store in London, House of Hackney now has a Manhattan location. It is also sold through select high-end interior design boutiques globally.

Before my House of Hackney review takes a look at some of this brand’s bold designs, let’s take a peek at what makes them special:

House of Hackney Wallpaper Review

With almost 70 different designs to choose from and numerous color choices, House of Hackney wallpaper has something for everyone. Patterns range from bright flora to whimsical fauna and even a few more subtle stripe designs that use bold colors.

All their wallpapers are free of PVC and made with eco-friendly materials. On top of that, for every roll sold, this luxury interior design company buys and protects 35 square meters of forest.

Throughout the manufacturing process, this brand tries for minimal impact on the environment. In this House of Hackney review, I’ll check out a couple of their bestselling designs and colors.

House of Hackney Artemis Wallpaper Blush Review

House of Hackney Review
House of Hackney Artemis Wallpaper Blush

The House of Hackney Artemis Wallpaper is likely the only time that flowers can be thought of as rebellious and bucking the norms. With vines of wildflowers climbing the walls around you, on a blush background, this wallpaper is bold yet not loud.

In blush, it goes great with wood or glass furniture, but probably not so well with IKEA-type conservative white decor. That’s not to say that you can’t find something more to your tastes in the 17 other options.

By choosing the right patterns and designs to go with it, you can create a colorful, harmonious collage that reflects your personality. It comes in roll height of 6’6” or 9’10”  at $224 and $312, respectively.

House of Hackney Pampas Wallpaper Noir Review

Turn your room into a serene, tropical paradise with the House of Hackney Pampas Wallpaper. Banana leaves, ferns, and pampas grass, in shades of green, intertwine lovingly on a black background for the effect of being in a canopy of rainforest trees.

Sticking to shades of one color makes it easy to find decor to match, especially wood furniture. The noir version has a subtle, understated presence that pairs well with darker woods. Bolder versions are just a click away with one of the other five options.

Bring the verdant serenity of nature inside your home for $224 (6’6”) and $312 (9’10”).

House of Hackney Fabric Review

This brand has you covered for all your decor needs, including their more than 40 collections of House of Hackney fabrics. These luxury, traditionally woven, and printed fabrics are ideal for curtains, furniture, and blinds.

They come in three types of fabric – British velvet, cotton-linens, and jacquard. Below, my House of Hackney review will take a look at a best-seller.

House of Hackney Artemis Embroidered Linen Alabaster Review

As the House of Hackney’s most popular and staple print, the Artemis pattern is seen on all their products, making it easy to mix and match the decor across one theme and still keep it bold and beautiful.

The Artemis Embroidered Linen comes in alabaster and pistachio for a light backdrop to the pattern.

Subtly show your fun side on your furniture or your windows with this unique design for $312 per yard.

House of Hackney Cushions Review

The exquisite House of Hackney cushions come in 35 collections, all made of velvet or cotton-linen. Their stuffing is 100% eco-friendly British wool

Going forward, my House of Hackney review will take a look at one of their best-selling throw pillows.

House of Hackney Tara Medium Fringed Velvet Cushion Azurite Review

House of Hackney Tara Medium Fringed Velvet Cushion Azurite

Although functional as a pillow, most cushions are included in your decor to add a bit of spice or color. The Tara Medium Fringed Velvet Cushion is a twist on the iconic Gainsborough pattern of blooming flowers.

The cushion has a shiny old gold ruched (pleated) fringe to give it a bit of sparkle. The soft velvet makes it feel like heaven.

The azurite (blue crystal) background color is meant to instill inner strength and emotional balance. Add a spot of color to your decor for $280.

Who Is House of Hackney For?

House of Hackney Review

While writing this House of Hackney review, I feel that this brand is ideal for anyone looking to add a bit of color and excitement to their decor. For the less outgoing types, a cushion or a set of drapes may be color enough to liven up a room.

For those whose personalities are more joyously in-your-face, these stunning, fun, and unique patterns can change the whole feel of a room.

Since this brand is all about luxury decor, I do have to note that the cost can be a bit restrictive, especially as we need to pay shipping costs to the US.

Let’s just say that if you have the money in your design budget, House of Hackney is the place to get really fun and truly unique wallpaper, fabrics, and cushions for anyone, anywhere.

House of Hackney Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

House of Hackney Review

You’ve heard just about everything that I have to say in this House of Hackney review, so let’s pass the mic over to the brand’s customers.

Unfortunately, there aren’t a lot of reviews from their customers online. The brand and their stockists don’t seem to have customer reviews listed on their websites so I had to venture forth onto the world wide web and see what I could find.

On Trustpilot, this 5/5 star House of Hackney review shows that this brand is not only about selling high-quality decor but also about treating people well, helping them from start to finish, and including helpful hints on your decor from a stylist if required.

They wrote: “Fantastic customer service, dealt with my mistake in moments and happily. Goods shipped within hours. Fantastic quality. Totally recommend”

It is great to know that even if we make a mistake, people are there to help, not to blame. When the people selling you things have a real passion for what they offer, it shows.

On Facebook where they have an overall rating of 4.3/5 stars over 120 reviews, one House of Hackney review perfectly sumamrized the brand:

“Amazing patterns & material. The perfect match between past & present. Steeve was really friendly and one can easily feel the love you put into your products. Well done

As we all know, the more we spend, the more we expect in return. This company gets that. The quality is superior as are the customer interactions.

This House of Hackney review from Facebook explains how they, as someone on a budget, need to save to afford a luxury brand, so how they are treated is really important:

“House of Hackney is an investment product so many of us have to save and wait to get what we dream about but unlike other luxury brands the customer always feels important without judgment, Thanks a million.”

Helping dreams come true is a special thing to be a part of. This brand’s passion leads them to create some unique, whimsical, fun, and quality products that talk to those with bold, outgoing, and fun personalities.

As this House of Hackney review, also from Facebook, says: “CRAZY SWINGING LONDON ,JUST LOVE IT!!!!

And what’s not to love? Although there aren’t thousands of reviews on this brand, the ones we did find tell a tale of happy customers – happy with the quality and the customer service

Many media outlets mention them in high-end designer projects from the US to India, so we would likely know if their products weren’t up to the luxury standards that their price makes us expect.

Is House of Hackney Legit?

House of Hackney Review

I found zero red flags to note when it comes to the House of Hackney, so it’s safe to say that this brand is the real deal.

Is House of Hackney Worth It?

House of Hackney Review

If colorful, bold, Victorian-style decor is what you’re into, then the House of Hackney is absolutely worth your money. You will not find these beautiful, nature-inspired, bold designs anywhere else.

And if you do find something similar, it won’t be of the same quality, nor have the same heart behind it.

By blending old styles with modern twists, House of Hackney products are timeless. Yes, they are expensive, but they should last and shouldn’t need to be updated for a long time.

They are worth the extra money because, after all, shouldn’t the interior of your home reflect your personality, whether it’s conservative or flamboyant?

House of Hackney Promotions & Discounts

House of Hackney Review

Unfortunately, at the time of this House of Hackney review I came across zero promotions or discounts that apply to customers in the US, but you can still book a stylist consultation to get started regardless.

Where to Buy House of Hackney

The best place to buy House of Hackney is through their website at houseofhackney.com. They also have two boutique stores, one in the UK and the other in New York.

Some of their stockists worldwide carry their wares online as well, which you can also find a list of on their website.
