About Inogen

Inogen Review

We can thank Playboi Carti for raising awareness on an issue that affects nearly 1.5 million Americans. He spoke of the necessity for oxygen concentrators on his 2020 track “Stop Breathing,” in which he bluntly explains how his fans were left breathless in his presence.

If only his fans had Inogen’s machines on hand. It’s likely that they wouldn’t suffer from shortness of breath.

While I could spend the length of this article speaking about Carti’s contributions, I’d rather focus on how Inogen is helping those 1.5 million Americans and people across the globe.

Inogen operates in 51 countries, has sold over 1 million products to customers across the globe, and holds over 30 patents in the United States. They make oxygen concentrators that are portable and lightweight as well as affordable.

They have over 1k Instagram followers, which isn’t too shocking considering that many people with breathing issues in Inogen’s target demographic probably don’t use social media too much. However, their high sales numbers and rampant accessibility speak to a trusted company.

But, can you trust them? I’ll answer that question in my Inogen review by examining their philosophy, their history, their technology, what makes their products special, what customers think about them, and more.

Overview of Inogen

Inogen Review

Whenever people think of breathing aids, the worst-case scenario is routinely among the first images that pop into their heads. They picture massive iron lungs encapsulating immobile patients, trapping them in a metallic cocoon.

Or, they picture people in incredibly dire health conditions with massive oxygen tanks attached to their nostrils.

Neither picture is empathetic to the reality that most people who require oxygen therapy can live their lives perfectly fine so long as they have the proper equipment. Luckily, proper equipment is the name of Inogen’s game.

The company has been at the forefront of the oxygen concentrator business since their inception in 2001. They create postable oxygen equipment that helps people reclaim their autonomy.

Inogen’s founding is a touching story driven by familial support. Company founders Alison Bauerlein, Brenton Taylor, and Byron Myers founded Inogen as a way to create a more mobile oxygen therapy machine to help a beloved grandmother, Mae.

This lead them to develop products that could help people around the world who suffered from respiratory issues.

Their business model is based around providing customers with flexible products at flexible prices to support a flexible lifestyle. They rigorously collect customer feedback so that they can improve their products.

And what have they gathered from those customer Inogen reviews? I’ll tell you later, but first, let’s look at some of the brand’s shining aspects in the upcoming section.

Highlights

  • Offers a lightweight and portable line of oxygen therapy machines
  • They regularly consult with customers to improve their products
  • Lifetime warranty
  • The company touts a 30-day risk-free trial

Inogen manufactures a variety of oxygen concentrators, ventilators, at-home systems, accessories, and repair parts.

Inogen Oxygen Review

It’s refreshing to see that Inogen Oxygen has a broad line of oxygen machines. Not everyone has the same mobility, needs, or capabilities, and I’m happy to see that Inogen Oxygen respects that.

I’ll be covering some of their oxygen therapy devices and going into what separates them from each other in this section.

I should note that you’ll have to contact the brand directly and speak with them about the prices of the items I’ve included in my Inogen Review. Medicare and other private insurance options can cover the cost of some Inogen products, so it’d be difficult for me to name a single price.

Inogen At Home Review

It’d be easy to reduce this item to exactly what it is, an at-home oxygen supply tank. However, that’d downplay all the Inogen At Home’s benefits that make it such a vital option.

This item is a juggernaut in terms of carrying capacity. It stands at 13” by 7” by 16.5” but it only weighs 18 pounds. That’s impressive for a device of this size.

What’s more impressive is that the Inogen At Home can pump out 5 liters of oxygen per minute. That’s nearly enough that you could share some of the air if you were to be so kind.

The Inogen At Home buzzes quietly at a 40 dbA noise level. It’s not a mock jet engine that roars so loudly that you need to pick between breathing and your sanity, it’s peaceful enough that it hums at an acceptable level.

This machine doesn’t have a battery but it does have a DC power cable so you can move around the house with it. Otherwise, its power source is a 100-240V AC power supply.

Inogen TAV Review

This device actually doesn’t have an oxygen supply of its own. Instead, the Inogen TAV (Tidal Assist Ventilator) works alongside a proprietary oxygen tank to help reduce feelings of breathlessness.

Its main appeal is that it can deliver up to 5 times as much oxygen as a standard tank could by itself. That could be the difference between feeling like you’re constantly on a treadmill and living your life with autonomy.

It couldn’t be easier – or less obtrusive – to use if it tried. You connect the Inogen TAV’s nasal pillows to your nose and then you can breathe easily. It only weighs 4.5 ounces, which, to put that number in context, is only slightly more than a single serving of spinach.

The Inogen TAV is versatile in its connectivity and its functionality. It can link up to oxygen cylinders, airboxes, and cylinders. It has five different levels of oxygen flow and three therapy modes:

  1. Pulse mode
  2. Tidal assist mode
  3. Constant mode

Inogen One G3 Review

Now that you’ve gotten acquainted with how Inogen intends to help you get more oxygen into your body, let’s look at some of their oxygen supply tanks in this Inogen review.

The first one I’ll look at is the Inogen One G3. It’s one of the most popular items that the brand offers. It’s already sold over 300,000 units since its inception.

The more you learn about this product, the more you can see why it’s earned so many fans. It’s lightweight, weighing just a hair under 5 pounds, has a battery that can last almost up to 5 hours, and has 5 different flow settings.

That’s a lot of fives, but what they mean is that the Inogen One G3 can cover you in any occasion. It’s so light and portable that you can take it out of the house with confidence.

Plus, if you are scared that the battery might keel over in the middle of your excursion, then you can purchase another battery to double the instrument’s longevity.

The Inogen One G3 supplies oxygen via a pulsing rhythm, which can match up with your natural breathing rhythm.

Inogen One G4 Review

Usually, you’d expect bigger to be better, but that’s not the case with oxygen tanks, nor is it true with the Inogen One G4. It’s smaller and lighter than the item I just spoke about in this Inogen review. Actually, it only weighs 2.7 pounds, including the weight of its battery.

It epitomizes an active lifestyle. Users don’t have to be tethered to their chairs or houses because they can’t get sufficient oxygen.

The Inogen One G4 was designed with mobility in mind, evidenced by the fact that it’s one of the quietest items in this Inogen review. It operates at a 40dbA noise level so that you distract people around you if you use it.

With its reduced size comes a few drawbacks, namely its battery life. The Inogen One G4’s sole battery can only last up to 2.7 hours, though you can double that amount by buying an additional battery.

However, that’s a fair trade-off for an oxygen machine that’s this portable and unobtrusive.

Inogen One G5 Review

The final item I’ll highlight in my Inogen review is the last item in their One line. It’s a miniature oxygen-delivery factory. Inogen touts this item as the pound-for-pound best oxygen concentrator available today. And honestly, I can’t dispute that claim.

The Inogen One G5 weighs 4.7 pounds but can deliver a steady oxygen stream for up to 6.5 hours on a single battery. However, what really makes this product shine is all its options for supplying oxygen.

It primarily uses a pulse dose system to supply waves of oxygen. You can alter the strength of the flow by selecting between 6 different levels. That gives you more control over how much oxygen you will ingest at one time.

Its size is nearly as impressive as its weight when it comes to its power output. The Inogen One G5 only measures 7” by 3” by 8”. Place that in the context of its weight and its multiple flow settings and it becomes clear why Inogen hype this machine up so much.

Who Is Inogen For?

Inogen Review

Inogen makes products for people who want to reclaim their freedom despite their breathing impairments. These machines are great for people who need a bit of help to get back on their feet and who don’t want to feel chained to a large oxygen tank.

Inogen Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Inogen Review

It wouldn’t be fair for anyone to buy a product as essential as an oxygen concentrator and not provide them with an insider’s perspective, so I pulled information from Inogen reviews across the internet to generate a customer consensus. I’ll focus on what people really thought about their Inogen purchases.

The first place I looked for customer feedback was on TrustPilot and I was delighted to see that over 2,800 customers gave the company an average score of 4.1/5 stars.

People were grateful for the freedom that Inogen provided them. They felt that they could go anywhere and re-engage with the world in ways they previously couldn’t.

They explained that the small size, light weight, and long battery lives of Inogen’s machines helped establish this feeling.

This 5/5 stars Inogen review courtly details everything the buyer loved about their purchase. “My Inogen unit works great. It’s quiet, the cannula is comfortable, The straps give me options how to carry it. Instructions are easy to follow. All around this is a great unit.

I checked out what Inogen’s Better Business Bureau rating was, and I was again happy to see that they performed well. They had an A+ rating.

I also assembled a list of the brand’s products’ ratings on Oxygen Concentrator Store, a website that compares items from different brands. Here are the average customer scores for the Inogen products there:

  • Inogen One G2 Portable Concentrator: 4.9/5 stars based on 15 ratings
  • Inogen One G5 Portable Concentrator: 4.8/5 stars based on more than 15 ratings
  • Inogen One G3 Portable Concentrator: 4.7/5 stars based on more than 30 ratings
  • Inogen At Home 5L Concentrator: 4.5/5 stars based on more than 10 ratings
  • Inogen One G4 Portable Concentrator: 4.3/5 stars based on more than 20 ratings

Most of the testimonials championed the products for sticking to Inogen’s goal. The items were universally described as light, portable, and empowering. People felt that their quality of life greatly improved once they added an Inogen item to their life.

Here’s how one buyer described the Inogen At Home 5L Concentrator: “Excellent unit, fairly quiet and light. easy mobility, can take on road trips when traveling. very satisfied with product.”

There were some negative customer reviews, especially on TrustPilot. They centered on Inogen’s less-than-stellar customer service. A few buyers said that it was a chore to try to contact the company post-sale because the brand didn’t answer their calls.

However, I also found customer Inogen reviews like this one that specifically highlights the brand’s dedication to supporting their customers: “My portable G3 unit started shutting down. I called customer service and they said they would send another unit. In less than 18 hours a replacement unit arrived at my house. Thanks for the great service.

Many customers also complimented Inogen’s customer service team on Oxygen Concentrator Store. They said that the company’s workers were patient and willing to work with them to answer their questions or solve their problems.

My conclusion on the matter is that you should take these complaints with a grain of salt because there are many more positive reviews that herald Inogen’s customer service.

Is Inogen Legit?

Inogen Review

As I mentioned in the previous section of my Inogen review, there are a few customers who think that the company left them high and dry after shopping with them.

While I can’t ignore these testimonials, I believe that, due to the high number of reviews that explicitly praised Inogen’s customer service, they’re not doing anything dastardly behind the scenes.

I can safely say that this brand is legit.

Is Inogen Worth It?
