About Laura Ashley

Laura Ashley Review

In business since 1953, most people recognize the name Laura Ashley as being synonymous with pretty, feminine, and timeless style. Sadly, this British heritage company went under last year. However, the American-owned North American side continued on, and Laura Ashley is making a return. They’re holding onto their British roots while incorporating American styles.

Since the North American rebranded version is so recent, the more than 54k likes on Facebook and 18.3k followers on their US Instagram page are impressive.

Laura Ashley is getting a lot of media attention lately, especially with their partnerships with prominent designers. A few notable outlets include The New York Times, WWD, and Vanity Fair

My Laura Ashley review will give you the knowledge to make an informed decision about whether or not to buy from this brand. I’ll do this by taking an in-depth look at their products, promotions, customer ratings, and more.

Overview of Laura Ashley

Laura Ashley Review

In 1953, a young British woman found a passion for fashion. She spent a few bucks on tools and materials and tried her hand at making prints.

Starting with scarves, which were very trendy at the time, her at-home hand-made items were quickly picked up by stores. She and her husband began creating tea towels and placemats as well.

Within a couple of years, the couple opened a store in Wales. In the 1960s, Laura Ashley took the company to the next level in fashion and started making the signature dresses that they are still known for today. A lover of all things Victorian, Ashley created maxi-length dresses, designed to be feminine in silhouette.

Later Ashley added a European country house look with floral designs. The company thrived for many years, opening up to home decor, kids’ clothes, and even wallpaper. Laura Ashley passed away in the 1980s but her husband continued running the company until 1993. In 1999, Laura Ashley sold the rights to the name in North America.

In 2020, American investment company Gordon Brothers bought the NA operation to reenergize the brand. While keeping the iconic British appeal, they are blending bits of American style into the brand. They also modernized and redesigned their online shop and recently partnered with designer Batsheva Hay to liven things up, while keeping to their roots.

It’s unfortunate that COVID took its toll on the brand worldwide, closing it down permanently. But luckily North America adapted, as it was a separate entity. They saved this heritage brand by updating their online store and getting their stylish products into 23,000 stores across the continent.

Before we take a look at some of the brand’s products in this Laura Ashley review, let’s take a glance at some highlights.

  • Home decor for your bedroom, bathroom, and more
  • American-owned

  • Clothes made in Kentucky, USA
  • Timeless designs
  • Modest, yet flattering styles

Laura Ashley Bedding Review

Laura Ashley bedding has accessories, comforters, duvets, sheets, quilts, and blankets. They come in traditional Laura Ashley floral as well as solid colors. But don’t worry, those solid colors still come with a little detail that honors the brand’s iconic style. Let’s take a look at one set in this best-selling line.

Laura Ashley Emma Seersucker White Duvet Cover Set Review

Although Laura Ashley’s floral is iconic, it isn’t for everyone and doesn’t fit into every decor. Their Emma Seersucker White Duvet Cover Set uses seersucker stripes to give just enough texture and detail for style, yet is fully white for a crisp, clean look that works anywhere. The 52% polyester and 48% cotton blend is soft and machine washable.

It comes in Euro queen and Euro king sizes. Climb into bed in style and comfort for $170.

Laura Ashley Dresses Review

I spot one major change in the brand. They now partner with luxury designers for new collections. These include the British designer Barbour, US luxury shirt label Meme Chose, and Batsheva Hay, known for her prairie style. Let’s take steer this Laura Ashley review into a best-seller from their Laura Ashley x Barbour collection.

Laura Ashley Barbour Elm Dress Review

With long-sleeves, a collared neck, and a length that reaches just under the knee, you may think that the Laura Ashley Barbour Elm Dress could be a bit modest, but you’d be wrong. This dress has classy Barbour style and Laura Ashley femininity.

The blouse top, and a small bit of pleating at the waist, give the dress a feminine silhouette, accented with small ruffles beside the buttons and at the sleeve tops. The Indienne floral pattern on a navy background is muted, yet eye-catching, ideal for almost any occasion, workplace, or day/night out. It even comes with some hand pockets.

A bonus of this particular design over other Laura Ashley dresses is that it is eco-friendly. The fabric is 100% lyocell, made from wood pulp, yet is still comfortable and durable. Also, it is made to be timeless, so it shouldn’t go out of style in one season. It comes in sizes 4-14. Get into this cool weather, long-sleeved stylish dress for $200.

Laura Ashley Pajamas Review

Laura Ashley pajamas come in various styles, including pant sets, slip dresses, and short sets. While the styles are quite different, they are all made to be comfortable and feminine. My Laura Ashley review will highlight one of their best-selling pant sets next.

Laura Ashley Grey Love Scottie Notch Collar Capri Set Review

Not only do you get to sleep in comfort in the Grey Love Scottie Notch Collar Capri Set, but you also get to rest surrounded by man’s, or should I say woman’s, best friend. With images of Scottie dogs all over the PJs, I think these pajamas are adorable, yet not sickly so.

The pink accents and Scottie images give it the femininity that the brand is known for. The pink bow on the breast pocket is also a cute accent. These pajamas are made from 60% cotton and 40% polyester and come in sizes small to extra large. You can happily and comfortably sleep with the dogs for $48.

Who Is Laura Ashley For?

Laura Ashley Review

Laura Ashley is for women of all ages who like modest, fashionable, timeless, feminine clothing. They also sell children’s clothing and home decor, but for this Laura Ashley review, I’m sticking to clothing and bedding. I’m not sure how many of their products are eco-friendly, but that could be another hook for those who like this brand.

There really aren’t too many women who Laura Ashley isn’t for, since timeless is the same as ageless. The only restrictive aspect may be the cost.

Laura Ashley Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Laura Ashley Review

With the closing of Laura Ashley worldwide, while the North American company continued, I think it may have caused some confusion. Trustpilot has nothing for the new web-based store but a few complaints about the global one. I did find some recent product ratings and reviews.

  • Victoria Reversible Duvet Cover on Wayfair: 4.4/5 stars after 78 reviews
  • Natalie Twin Duvet Cover Set on Bed Bath & Beyond: 4.9/5 stars over 12 reviews
  • Long Sleeve Notch Collar PJ Set on Amazon: 4.1/5 stars from 48 reviews

On Wayfair, one customer waited to make an informed opinion of the product: I’m a little late with this review but perhaps the delay actually speaks to the quality of this duvet! By now it has been washed several times and we still love it. It is probably our current fav 🙂

Over on Bed Bath & Beyond, one reviewer explained how daunting online buying can be, but no doubt will turn to this brand again after her experience: Very very impressed. So scary buying things on the internet without being able to have them in your hands first. Safe on this one in feel, quality, and looks. Bravo!!!!

This customer on Amazon who bought the Long Sleeve Notch Collar PJ Set confirms that Laura Ashley in North America is keeping the best of what this iconic British known for:

The perfect pajama and loungewear. I love Laura Ashley pajamas. I got lucky about 5 or 6 years ago when I ordered them (not too heavy and not too thin). I havent been able to find them again until now. I’m so happy to replenish my stock. Thank you! They also run true to size.”

While it was tough to find some Laura Ashley reviews, the ones I did find were overwhelmingly positive. Almost every reviewer is planning on making another purchase from the brand, confirming that the brand is building on the iconic success and trustworthiness of its predecessor.

Is Laura Ashley Worth It?

Laura Ashley Review

So, let’s discuss whether this brand is worth it. Writing this Laura Ashley review, I found that the North American version of the original brand is a perfect mix of what the British company was known for and modern American styles. And it looks to just be getting better. The feminine shapes, styles, and details should make any woman, child, or bedroom look their best.

Now, you may say that the prices are high, but this brand makes high-quality clothes that last. That means you can get lots of use out of one dress. On top of that, the styles are timeless, so you don’t have to spend money trying to keep up with the fads and trends of the day. The brand is worth your money.
