Overview of Naturepedic

Naturepedic Review

Founded in 2003, Naturepedic was born out of the need of a caring expectant grandfather who set out in search of a safe crib mattress.

Of course, that was almost two decades ago, a time when the words “non-toxic” and “mattress” were rarely used in the same sentence. Even though safety was and always will be every parent’s concern across the globe.

That expectant grandfather was Barry A. Cik, a man with a lot of experience in environmental engineering, and who has always known a thing or two about chemicals.

Considering most mattresses were made out of PVC and polyurethane at the time, which is known to release toxins, Cik searched for an alternative and though he found soft mattresses, none of them were waterproof.

So, with his two sons, Cik created Naturepedic in an attempt to make a safe and smart crib mattress. They really took the concept of “safe” to the next level, choosing a waterproof material made from sugarcane that’s actually food grade and highly sustainable.

Naturepedic Review

Over time, the Ohio-based company expanded its product line but its mission remains the same: to provide “safer, healthier sleep in an economically competitive and environmentally responsible way.”

Personal hygiene, hand hygiene… we learn all about those in grade school. But what about sleep hygiene? It’s more important than you think. According to the CDC[1], 1 in 3 adults don’t get enough sleep. While there are a number of reasons for not getting enough sleep, or getting a poor quality of sleep, your mattress could be one of them.

In the next section of this Naturepedic review, we’ll take a look at how the brand accomplishes these inspiring missions. Before we get there, we’ll shine some light on the brand’s highlights.

Naturepedic Mattress Review

You can’t beat the feeling of safety, and beds are where we should feel the safest. But safety isn’t just about protection from the outside world, you can have dangers lurking in your very mattress. Which is the thing you depend on to rest and recharge.

Ahead in this Naturepedic review, we will introduce you to the brand’s top-selling mattresses, one for adults and one for kids, both equally safe.

Mattresses are an investment. If you want one that is both safe and guaranteed to last, then it likely won’t come super cheap. To make the payment process easier, customers can choose to pay in monthly installments with affirm.

Naturepedic Adult Chorus Organic Mattress Review

Though Naturepedic began as a mattress company for your little ones, breathability, safety, and comfort translate to adults too. The Adult Chorus Organic Mattress looks ultra-plush, made from smart, organic components to bring you that cushy comfort you crave without the need for toxic chemicals.

The outer layer and fill are made from organic cotton and wool to keep you cool and draw moisture away from your body while you sleep. Body temperature is known to have an important role in ensuring that you get optimal sleep. Running too hot or too cold can lead to a restless night.

Using glueless support coils, this mattress cradles your body without over sinking, providing a nice bounce-back for ease of movement. A comfortable mattress has been shown to help you sink into a deeper sleep.

The Naturepedic Adult Chorus Organic Mattress is available in a full range of sizes, shown below along with their prices.

  • Twin: $1,200
  • Twin XL: $1,400
  • Full: $1,800
  • Queen: $2,00
  • King: $2,500
  • California King: $2,500

Naturepedic Kids 2-in-1 Organic Mattress Review

Kids outgrow things so fast, mattresses included. And, if you thought that kids couldn’t possibly suffer from sleep issues, think again. Research has shown that anywhere from 5-20% of kids and teens suffer from insomnia. Their mattress could be contributing to it.

The Naturepedic Kids 2-in1 Organic Mattress features a soft, quilted side and a waterproof side that can be flipped depending on their age.

It’s made of organic cotton with a comfortable layer of PLA fiber, aka sugarcane fluff, on the waterproof side. Steel coils lie inside the mattress, offering your kid support and helping heat to escape.

The Kids 2-in-1 Organic Mattress works great in all kinds of twin bed frames, including bunk beds and trundles, but you can also buy this mattress in full size too. Give them total peace and comfort with this mattress for:

  • Twin: $700
  • Twin Trundle & Twin Trundle Short: $650
  • Full: $900

Naturepedic Crib Mattress Review

You always do your best to keep your baby from harm, choosing the right foods, the softest blankets, and the gentlest soaps. So, choosing a clean mattress for where they spend most of their time is a smart decision too. Below, you’ll find details about the best-selling Naturepedic crib mattresses made from organic cotton.

Naturepedic Classic Organic Baby Crib Mattress Review

If there’s one thing babies need, it’s support. The Naturepedic Classic Organic Baby Crib Mattress is made to provide firm support to little ones and reinforced edges for toddlers who move much more.

What’s really cool about this mattress is that it’s dual-sided. Offering a firm side for babies and a softer one for toddlers, it grows with them, saving you the pain of having to buy a new one. Because babies’ bones are still developing, they require much firmer mattresses than what we would typically choose for ourselves.

It’s made from organic cotton with a waterproof coating and waterproof seams for maximum protection. To clean, you’ll just use a light soap and water.

The organic crib mattress is available in Lightweight, Lightweight 2-Stage, and Innerspring 2-Stage for $260-$300.

Naturepedic Breathable Organic Mini Crib Mattress Review

Ever wake up in a sweat? As adults, we cringe and change our PJs, but babies don’t know what’s wrong, they just know they feel yucky.

The Naturepedic Breathable Organic Mini Crib Mattress is made from three breezy layers of organic cotton with a safe, waterproof coating. The whole thing is super light, which means lifting is easier for you when it comes to cleaning.

And while keeping them cool is important, the more breathable a mattress, the better it is for your baby’s health. Babies typically don’t develop a circadian rhythm[2] for body temperature until 3 months of age, so regulating their temperature is important. Help your little one get comfy and dream happy with this breathable mattress for $280.

Naturepedic Changing Pad Review

We all know the dangers of plastic. The issue is that it’s so convenient and easy to clean that it’s often used for changing pads. In this Naturepedic review, we’ll fill you in about the brand’s top-selling waterproof and organic changing pads to make taking care of your little one safer while on the go.

Naturepedic Organic Cotton Changing Pad Review

Changing gets messy, so when it comes to changing pads, being easy to clean is non-negotiable. The problem comes in the materials that other brands use, like plastic, for one.

Unlike a crib mattress that can be covered with a sheet, you put your baby’s bare bum down on changing pads, a very sensitive area. So why wouldn’t you want to use the best materials?

The Naturepedic Organic Cotton Changing Pad measures 16.5″ x 31.5″ x 4” and is made from 100% organic cotton coated with a non-GMO sugarcane waterproof coating. It’s easy to clean and so safe it’s actually food grade.

The pad has a safety buckle, too, to make sure they’re extra protected. Choose from two-sided or four-sided options for $99. Add a cover for $29.

Who Is Naturepedic For?

Naturepedic Review

Naturepedic is for those who care about what’s in their bedroom. The brand’s mattresses and bedding are all made without chemicals and are guaranteed to be clean by numerous certifying bodies, like GOTS and GREENGUARD.

Offering products for babies, kids, and adults, Naturepedic is ideal for families who want to keep toxins out of their homes and their loved ones safe.

Comparison: Naturepedic vs. Silk & Snow

Naturepedic Review

We spend a lot of time in bed, so it only makes sense to sleep on something that isn’t causing you harm. The importance of buying an eco mattress or bedding is as high as choosing non-toxic cleaning products for your home, and yet, there aren’t as many companies doing it as they should.

Thankfully, a few are, and in this section of our Naturepedic review, we’ll take a look at one of them called Silk & Snow, and how it stacks up against our featured brand.

The competitor has a similar product lineup to Naturepedic, only, it offers bedding too like duvets and quilts alongside its collections of mattresses, bed frames, and sheets.

We also found that the competitor doesn’t make products for kids, so right off the bat, that’s probably the biggest difference between the two, as the majority of products our featured company makes are for babies and kids.

Because Silk & Snow doesn’t offer kids’ items, below, we’ll take a look at one of each of the brands’ adult mattresses to see if there are any big differences.

  • Silk & Snow Organic Mattress:
    • GOLS certified latex, GOTS certified organic cotton, OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Certified wool
    • All-natural materials
    • Organic, Chemical-free, Naturally fire retardant
    • 100-Night Risk-Free
    • 15-Year Warranty
    • Free Shipping
    • Queen $1,300
  • Naturepedic Chorus Mattress:
    • GOTS certified organic cotton, wool, PLA fiber
    • Made-safe certified, UL/GREENGUARD certified
    • Organic, Chemical-Free, Naturally fire retardant
    • Customizable firmness
    • Made in the USA
    • 90-Day Money-Back Guarantee
    • 10-year warranty
    • Free shipping
    • Queen $1,900

In terms of construction and certifications, these two brands are pretty much on par, so it really comes down to comfort and preference. To find out what Naturepedic mattresses are really like, check out the section below.

Naturepedic Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Naturepedic Review

In the last section of this Naturepedic review, we saw how our featured brand stacks up against a competitor. In this one, we’ll get into a selection of feedback from customers to help us understand the quality of the brand’s products.

To kick things off, let’s take a look at a few ratings taken from Naturepedic.com:

  • Organic Cotton Changing Pad: average of 4.9/5 stars from 168 reviews
  • Wooly 3” Organic Mattress Topper: average of 4.9/5 stars from 15 reviews
  • Organic Waterproof Protector Pads: average of 4.9/5 stars from 761 reviews
  • Organic Adjustable 2-in-1 Pillow: average of 4.7/5 stars from 307 reviews
  • Organic Crib Sheets: average of 4.9/5 stars from 102 reviews

We chose to check out the Organic Waterproof Protector Pads as it’s one of those products that really need to work to be worth buying. We found a ton of comments that mentioned how effective the cover is, including one that went into a little more depth.

It read: “We’ve had it a few months and it’s already saved the mattress a few times from overnight accidents. Even when the sheets, bedding, and mattress protector were saturated with urine, the mattress had no urine on it!

Naturepedic Review

Because it’s an incredibly important product, it’s nice that something that’s eco-friendly and non-toxic actually does a great job at protecting mattresses too.

And speaking of mattresses, the next Naturepedic review we’ll be taking a look at is from Mattress Nerd. The reviewer wrote about a few of the brand’s mattresses including the EOS Classic, EOS Trilux, and the EOS Pillow Top.

What we thought was a really cool point mentioned in this review was the fact that all of these mattresses are customizable. That means you can choose the firmness that suits your preference (and your partners, as each side can be customized) instead of searching for an entirely new mattress that may be soft but doesn’t check all of the sustainable boxes.

In the end, the Naturepedic review on Mattress Nerd said that any of its mattresses are “great for those looking for an eco-friendly mattress that provides options when it comes to mattress construction” and awarded them a 4.5/5-star score.

When it comes to eco mattresses, customization isn’t really a thing. Usually, you take what you can get. So the fact that Naturepedic has tons of options is really something.

Now that we’ve seen what makes the brand’s adult mattresses special, we wanted to check in on those for babies. Turning to Amazon, we found a 4.6/5 star score from 135 shoppers for the Organic Cotton Classic Lightweight Crib Mattress and the following snapshot:

  • 5 stars: 80%
  • 4 stars: 9%
  • 3 stars: 4%
  • 2 stars: 2%
  • 1 star: 5%
Naturepedic Review

Customers appear to really appreciate this mattress for their little ones, with many pleased about the lack of smell. Apparently, due to the chemicals in normal mattresses, there’s an off-gassing period that produces a heavy smell. With this one, it looks like that doesn’t exist.

One happy shopper said: “I would buy this mattress again and again…It’s the best and your baby is going to spend 14 hours a day on it so why not get the best?” You want your baby to be comfy, but you also want them to be safe. The Classic Crib Mattress seems to be the best of both worlds.

Overall, feedback is highly positive for Naturepedic products. The brand isn’t just about a safer alternative, it gives its customers options and ways to customize. For an eco-friendly brand, that’s pretty impressive.

Is Naturepedic Worth It?

Naturepedic Review

Simply for the sake of keeping your family safe from chemicals, Naturepedic mattresses and bedding are worth it. But the brand chooses sustainable materials too and offers a varied selection, warranties, and a 90-day money-back guarantee.

In terms of risk, buying from Naturepedic is incredibly low from both safety and satisfaction standpoints which is why we think this brand is definitely worth the buy.

What is the Naturepedic warranty?

Depending on the product, the Naturepedic warranty varies. Some cover 10 years, others 20, but in general, the warranty is non-transferable and covers any defects in manufacturing and workmanship.

For an item with a 10-year warranty, the first 5 years will be fully covered, and the next will be covered at a 50% rate. This specification means you’ll either get a credit worth half of what you paid or you may need to cover half of the repair cost.

  5. Soiling, tears, discoloration

Yes, it’s completely waterproof. The mattress itself is made from organic cotton but it has a waterproof coating made from sugarcane so that it’s toxic-free and safe for your little one.

How to care for my Naturepedic mattress?

It depends on which one you have. Crib mattresses are waterproof, so all you’ll need to do is wipe them clean.

The Kid’s 2-in-1 Mattress is waterproof on one side and quilted on the other, and you can wipe down the waterproof side. On the other side, you’ll need to spot clean only. Adult mattresses are not waterproof and can only be spot cleaned.

What is Naturepedic’s Shipping Policy?

Naturepedic offers free shipping for continental US customers and some Canadian provinces. Free shipping will automatically be in effect at checkout for those in the USA, while Canadians will simply need to enter SWEETCANADA at checkout when on the CAD store.

The brand does ship to other countries around the world, but they will need to email in for a shipping quote.

For US orders, shipping times are as follows:

  • Easter & Central: 3-4 business days
  • Western 5-7: business days

Naturepedic normally uses FedEx or UPS Ground shipping for all orders, but sometimes, your order may be delivered by freight. If this is the case, the freight company will give you a call to schedule a delivery time.

What is Naturepedic’s Return Policy?

Naturepedic products have a 30-90 day Money-Back Guarantee that promises you a full refund if you find its products aren’t the right fit after trying them out in your home. Certain categories of products have different return windows so we’ll break it all down below:

  • Baby & Kids: 30 days
  • Halcyon Mattresses: 60 days
  • Adults: 90 days

With all adult mattresses, the brand asks that you give it a fair shot and test it out for a full 30 nights before returning it. From what we saw, the return process goes something like this:

  1. Call 800-917-3342 and let them know you’d like a refund or exchange
  2. A customer service rep will give you instructions on what to do next, arrange a pickup, or send you a shipping label

If you purchased your item from another retailer, you’ll need to go through that store to make a return.
