PlantingTree Products Review

PlantingTree has a spectacular assortment of trees, shrubs, and fruiting plants—most of which are meant for your outdoor spaces. You’ll also find a smaller selection of indoor and patio plants in its collection, but for the purpose of this PlantingTree review, I’ll give you the details on its bestselling outdoor plants

PlantingTree Green Mountain Boxwood Review

The Green Mountain Boxwood is a sweet, but tough little shrub. It grows upright just like a tree would and when planted side by side with others, creates a beautiful hedge around your property. And with its summery green color, if you live in an area with rabbits, deer, or pests, this is a fantastic pick.

At maturity, the Green Mountain Boxwood will stand five feet tall and about 2-3 feet wide. And since it has tons of branches and small leaves, the shrub is thick, dense, and great for privacy. Get yours in a 1-gallon pot for $30.

PlantingTree Rosemary Plant Review

Whether you cook with it or simply love the scent of it wafting by, the Rosemary Plant is a great addition to any home. Used as an herb, it’s incredibly versatile for cooking and can handle a lot of sunlight.

Plant it in your garden or in a pot on your patio and watch it grow into a full shrub. Naturally, it’s insect repellent, so if you’re in the market for a plant that’s tough to kill, this one is it! A 1-gallon pot costs $35.

PlantingTree Cassian Fountain Grass Review

A lovely, whimsical plant for your garden, Cassian Fountain Grass is low maintenance and can handle droughts and salt. With long, bending stems, each one is tipped with a powdery pink fluffy bloom that lasts from late summer through fall and transforms into glowing orange and red.

Cassian Fountain Grass is easy to care for and can handle heat as well as cold. It will grow to about 2-3 feet tall and doesn’t overwhelm neighboring plants. Pick one in a 3-gallon pot for $45 (on sale from $80).

PlantingTree Japanese Plum Yew Review

Japanese Plum Yew is an interesting shrub with palm-like fronds that spurt out as a fern would. In a deep forest green color, despite being an evergreen, it does spectacularly well in the southern heat.

Expect your Japanese Plum Yew to grow up to 10 feet tall and wide and produce small, plum-shaped berries. You can get yours in a 3-gallon pot for $40 (normally $100).

PlantingTree Endless Summer® Twist-n-Shout® Big Leaf Hydrangea Review

Wow, what a spectacular beauty the Endless Summer Twist-n-Shout Big Leaf Hydrangea is. Offering a gorgeous show of pink and periwinkle colors, it’s actually the first re-blooming Lacecap Hydrangea in existence.

Below the flowers are thick red stems that enhance this plant’s beauty which lasts from late spring all the way through to fall. And since it’s a Twist-n-Shout, you won’t have to worry about bent over branches. Basically, it’s super hearty despite belonging to the floral family. A 1-gallon pot size costs $50.

PlantingTree Grey Owl Juniper Review

PlantingTree Review

The Grey Owl Juniper is a unique-looking hedge plant that can give your lawn a special something. With a soft blue color and branches that reach outwards, not upwards, this low-growing shrub can withstand the elements and give your lawn a pop of color.

These particular planting trees will grow about 1-2 feet per year and are resistant to diseases and insects. At maturity, the Grey Owl Juniper will measure 3-4 feet tall and reach 4-5 feet wide. If you’re looking for a low-maintenance tree, this is it. Get yours in a 3-gallon pot for just $25 (on sale from $60).

PlantingTree Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

PlantingTree Review

My featured brand sells live plants, so you can imagine that this PlantingTree review hangs on customer testimonials. To help you understand what buying from this company is really like, I’ve rounded up comments and ratings from multiple sites around the web. I’ll start with a few scores from the brand’s website first.

  • Green Mountain Boxwood: 4.9/5 stars from 56 reviews
  • Grey Owl Juniper: 4.9/5 stars from 17 reviews
  • Endless Summer Twist & Shout Big Leaf Hydrangea: 4.8/5 stars from 33 reviews
  • Cassian Fountain Grass: 4.9/5 stars from 19 reviews

Looking into the comments for the Cassian Fountain Grass, here’s what one shopper wrote in their PlantingTree review:

The plants were delivered quickly, and in excellent condition…..very fresh plants and moist soil. Was so pleasantly surprised, that Planting Tree actually delivered the high quality product they had advertised and promised…The plants are growing and doing very well, and instructions for proper care are also very helpful.

Fresh plants and moist soil are always good signs of proper care. And it’s clear to see on the brand’s website that customers are pleased, but what about elsewhere? I turned to Trustpilot to find out. On Trustpilot, PlantingTree was awarded 3.6/5 stars

Here’s how it breaks down:

  • Excellent: 81%
  • Great: 8%
  • Average: 4%
  • Poor: 3%
  • Bad: 4%

With such a high percentage of 5/5 stars scores, why did Trustpilot give the brand such a mediocre rating? It turns out that even though the majority of customers are satisfied with the brand’s plants and services, since PlantingTree has not responded to negative reviews, Trustpilot has lowered the it’s overall score.

But still, I can’t argue against the fact that the brand is loved by its customers. Here’s one PlantingTree review that explains why:

Received my first order of spruce trees. So impressed with quality of the product. Trees were securely packaged and appeared to be very healthy upon opening the box. Trees from nurseries are super expensive where I live. I’m glad I had this affordable option. Thanks again!

Other shoppers say the brand has fast shipping and echo the sentiment about excellent packaging

I was pretty pleased with the feedback on Trustpilot, but still, I went out in search of an in-depth PlantingTree review that mentioned plant quality and shipping. I found one on a website called Dave’s Garden. I’ll give you the gist of it below:

I’ve placed a few orders from them. They tend to be notably overpriced, but they have quality products and service. The higher prices probably reflect the built-in cost of “free” shipping. They do an outstanding job with shipping. They have specially designed boxes to ensure your plants arrive in great condition and aren’t battered in the mail.

Some customers say PlantingTree has great prices, whereas others say it has high prices. But the price you pay may depend on if you got a deal or not. I personally like that the brand has a section on its website specifically for deals that you can shop if you’d like to pay a little less.

Is PlantingTree Legit?

PlantingTree Review

The most concerning thing I could find among PlantingTree reviews was that not everyone notices that the 1-year warranty is an optional add-on. In other words, you have to pay for it.

All plants come with a 30-day warranty and a 5-day Good to Grow guarantee, but if you’d like the extra protection, you’ll need to pay for it. So, read the fine print and you won’t have any surprises. This isn’t exactly a red flag, just something to be aware of.  From what I can see, PlantingTree checks out.

Is PlantingTree Worth It?

PlantingTree Review

At first glance, PlantingTree looks like any other online plant company. It has a great inventory of plants and supplies to choose from, but it’s the extra things it offers that really make this company worth checking out.

For instance, I really like that PlantingTree has a resource center. And as someone who hasn’t always had the best of luck with choosing the right type of plants, let alone growing them, easily accessing plants that are right for the climate in which I live is important to me. You can simply shop by growing zones on their website, which eliminates the need for research.

In addition, while browsing through a few of the many plants PlantingTree offers, I came to appreciate the many guarantees the brand has in place. When buying one of its products, you’ll get the Good to Grow guarantee for five days, a 30-day warranty, and an option to extend it to an entire year.

I also appreciated reading how well PlantingTree packages its plants—especially since I’ve reviewed a few plant brands and I know that secure packaging isn’t always a given. And after everything I’ve learned about this brand, I can certainly say it’s worth shopping with. In addition, if you’re after a deal, be sure to hit up the Today’s Deals section.

PlantingTree Promotions & Discounts

PlantingTree Review

I wouldn’t consider any PlantingTree review complete without a section on deals, so I scoped out the brand’s website to see what I could find. Not only does it offer free shipping on orders over $120, but there’s an entire section called Today’s Deals with tons of discounted products.

FAQ

PlantingTree Review

Who owns PlantingTree?

I tried really hard to figure out who owns PlantingTree, but its website, nor any other sources online, had much to say about the company. Here’s what I could find: PlantingTree is based in the Carolinas and runs its business 100% online

Why are the leaves on my tree turning yellow?

There are few worse feelings than the one of watching the happy, healthy plant you bought at the store turn yellow. PlantingTree says that there are two main reasons why your plant could be going yellow:

  1. Too much water
  2. Too little water

PlantingTree says that most plants will die within 1-2 weeks if you don’t water them properly. So this is one of the most important steps you can take to ensure they live long, happy lives. The best way to check if your plant is receiving too much or too little water is to feel the soil. Stick your finger about an inch down and see if it’s wet. If it is, then don’t water it. If it isn’t, water it.

What is PlantingTree’s shipping policy?

Shipping live plants can be tricky, so I was happy to read that PlantingTree takes great care when packaging and shipping its products. Delivering to the continental US only, once you place an order online, it can take 1-3 business days to process it.

Keep in mind that not all plants are available for shipping right away, so you may need to wait a little longer for yours. For more accurate shipping information for your location, refer to the transit time page on the brand’s site.

What is PlantingTree’s refund policy?

The thing about plants is that they’re perishable. But you probably already know that since there are few plant parents who haven’t killed a vine or flower in their day. Because of this, PlantingTree can’t accept returns to its facility without authorization.

Here are a few more guidelines around returns:

  • When you remove a plant from its original pot, it cannot be returned
  • Other non-plant items (fertilizers, kits, etc.) can be returned, but you’ll need to seek authorization first
  • All sales are considered final unless you receive a damaged product

If your plant arrives damaged, you’ll need to get in contact with PlantingTree within five business days. The company won’t ask for the plant to be shipped back. Instead, it’ll place a credit on your account or refund your order.

And if you’re returning hard goods (tools, kits, etc.), you have 10 business days to do so. Returns of these items will be subject to a 25% restocking fee. All items must be in their original condition with all of their original packaging.
