ProLon vs Kroma Review

ProLon gives fasting a delicious, satiating makeover with their science-backed fast-mimicking program. Delivering pre-portioned kits of specifically-crafted meals, snacks, and drinks, the plan helps your body enter a beneficial fasting state without the need to totally avoid food.

ProLon’s benefits range from more energy to weight loss to healthy aging, as their plans are based on the Nobel Prize-winning study of autophagy, the body’s cleansing process. Developed over 14 long years of research and tens of millions of dollars, this intelligent program nourishes your body, burns fat, and renews cells.

About Kroma

ProLon vs Kroma Review

Kroma, developed by Lisa Odenweller in 2021, the company focuses on 5-Day Nutritional Resets and healthy on-the-go foods that require little prep. Helping you work functional superfoods into your everyday life, Kroma’s top priority is taste and their programs are designed to cleanse and kickstart or help maintain healthy eating habits.

While these programs are somewhat similar, there are a lot of differences to hash out in this ProLon vs Kroma review.

Coming up, I’ll put these companies face to face, comparing their programs, variety, value, and more. I’ll kick things off with a quick guide of what to consider as you read.

What To Consider

ProLon vs Kroma Review

With this ProLon vs Kroma review, our goal is to help you find a fasting plan that meets your needs, so it’s important to take what they offer, who they’re for, and how easy they are to follow into account.

As you make your way through the sections ahead, you’ll come face to face with these factors:

  • Program customization
    • The more customized a program is to your needs and preferences, the more likely you are to stay on it. Kroma offers more customization on its plan than ProLon does, mainly because it isn’t a fast-mimicking program.
  • Target audience
    • At first glance, ProLon and Kroma look incredibly similar. They’re not. They deliver similar results, but one achieves through a fast-mimicking diet whereas the other focuses on clean eating.
    • The goal of both is cleansing, they just reach it through slightly different methods. With that said, Kroma is a slightly more glamorous plan, aimed at the LA crowd with its organic, supremely clean foods. ProLon’s foods are clean as well, but they’re a bit more approachable for those new to the world of fasting.
  • Extras
    • ProLon and Kroma offer one-time purchases of specific products. You’ll find add-ons with both ProLon and Kroma, making it easy to keep your favorite healthy snacks in your diet after you finish your plan.
  • Credibility
    • You want a plan that has shown results time and time again, right? Both of these services have been featured in notable publications and both are talked about on GOOP. GOOP herself endorses Kroma.
    • While Kroma may be more glam, that doesn’t mean it’s more effective. ProLon was developed with 14 years of research and 16 clinical studies. Kroma is doctor-approved and was developed by a pioneer in the wellness space.
  • Accessibility
    • A diet plan needs to be easy to access or else it’s impossible to stick with. Both ProLon and Kroma ship meals to your door making it as easy as possible to stay on track. ProLon offers coaching along with their plans, but Kroma has an app for added support. Price is another accessibility factor to consider here and ProLon is definitely the more affordable option.

ProLon vs Kroma: How Do They Work?

ProLon vs Kroma Review

The first thing I think is worth mentioning in this ProLon vs Kroma review is that, while these two brands offer similar programs, they are inherently different.

They are both 5 days long but ProLon is a fast-mimicking plan

Kroma is a food-based cleanse. This means the food you eat on either of these programs will differ and that the times of day you eat will too.

Let’s take a closer look at what each of these brands offers and how they work before we get into the details of their programs.

ProLon is a 5-Day Nutri-Technology program. It was developed with 14 years of research and 16 clinical studies, designed to transition your body into and keep it in a fasting state. You’ll eat specific meals on this plan, develop to nourish your body without triggering food-sensing pathways. If a science-back program is a priority to you, I think you’ll like this one.

While on ProLon’s 5-Day Plan, you’ll eat clean, gluten-free, plant-based meals that come in low on the glycemic index. The benefits of fasting for 5 days range from having more energy to losing weight to healthy aging.

ProLon’s program has been awarded 40+ patents around the world and has been tested in 16 human trials. What else makes it unique? The foods offered by ProLon have a very precise ratio, amount, and composition of plant protein, healthy fats, and complex carbs to trigger autophagy–the body’s cleansing process.

Autophagy is the main goal of ProLon’s 5-Day Plan, which is based on the study that won the 2016 Nobel Prize in Medicine.

Kroma is a lot less science-based, but their 5-Day Rest is still doctor-recommended and was developed by a pioneer in the health and wellness realm.

Kroma’s 5-Day Reset is customizable to your needs and is developed to help you reset, restore, and heal. It can also teach you healthier habits and kick-start your healthy eating plan. Delivering packaged meals in a gorgeous box, it’s certainly the more glamorous option of the two brands here. However, it’s the benefits, not the looks that should really concern you.

With Kroma, you’ll choose from Lifestyle, Lean, or Active protocols, each one differing in total calorie count and add-ons.

Unlike ProLon, this is not a fast-mimicking diet, but they do recommend that you fast for 12-16 hours each day. That means you’ll either have an 8-12 hour eating window

Like ProLon, Kroma’s program is about nourishment and you should never feel starved. Also similar to their competitor, your 5 days with Kroma will take your body through 5 stages. These include awaken, detox, activate, replenish, and reset.

At the end of each program, you should feel energized, clear-headed, and possibly even a pound or two lighter

In the coming sections of this ProLon vs Kroma review, I’ll walk you through the specifics of their 5-Day Plans, meals, variety, and price.

ProLon 5-Day Fasting Nutrition Plan vs Kroma The 5-Day Reset: Signature Review

Both of these brands have more than one program available, but in this part of my ProLon vs Kroma review, I’ll be comparing their 5-Day plans

ProLon’s 5-Day Fasting Nutrition Plan is fast-mimicking. That means your body will go through the motions of a 5-day fast but you still get to eat. Delivering a prescribed plan of prepacked soups, bars, snacks, teas, drinks, and supplements, you’ll have everything you need to see results.

ProLon’s 5-Day plan is designed and clinically tested by 14 global universities, a fact that shows it’s proven to work.

Benefits range from the cellular level to the emotional, and during your 5 days, you can expect your body to start using its fat reserves as fuel, resulting in weight loss. Fasting also encourages the cleansing and rejuvenation of cells, creating more energy and a better mood.

Offering a scientifically-developed ratio of macronutrients and micronutrients, ProLon nourishes your body while delivering the many benefits of fasting. You’ll get about 1,000 calories on your first day, and then 700-800 on the following days.

Kroma’s 5-Day Reset is a little more complicated, and you’ll also have a bit more freedom in terms of what you eat

All of your meals are prepacked into individual servings. There are a total of 9 different mixes in your box, along with OMG Cookie Butter which serves as a treat when you need it, and a tin of tea.

Kroma recommends using their app for extra guidance, but they have a guide that’s easy to follow. Kroma says there’s no starvation on their plan. Their program has tons of foods and drinks to help you feel satiated daily

Some of the benefits it can bring include weight loss and debloating, a clearer mind, more energy, and better digestion. Each day of food contains about 1,050 calories before you add non-dairy milk, fruit, or veggies to your meals. These ingredients are optional and can be added if you need them.

Kroma says that while you may feel hungry on their plan, you shouldn’t feel depleted.

These two plans have very different foods and mealtimes, but they’re also very different in nature. If a fast-mimicking plan is ideal for you, ProLon is it. I really like how each day of food is organized by box, making it super easy to follow. However, if general detoxing and re-setting healthy eating habits is more appealing, Kroma delivers.

ProLon Meals vs Kroma Meals Review

ProLon vs Kroma Review

Now it’s time to get into what you really came to this ProLon vs Kroma review for: the food

It’s important to keep in mind that ProLon is a fast-mimicking program whereas Kroma is not, so the foods they offer will be slightly different even though, overall, you’re still eating at a reduced caloric intake of around or under 1,000 calories per day.

ProLon’s meals are all separated, packaged, and organized into daily sets. This makes their plan super easy to follow. Your kit will come with five boxes labeled by day, so they’re no chance of mixing up your food or eating off-plan. Let’s take a peek inside the boxes for an example of what you’ll eat each day.

  • Breakfast: Nut Bar, Herbal Tea, Algal Oil packet
  • Lunch: Soup, Almond & Kale Crackers, 2 NR-1 packets
  • Snack: Olive packet & Herbal Tea
  • Dinner: Soup, Nut Bar, L-Drink

You’re also allowed other foods/drinks on ProLon’s 5-Day plan. These include unlimited herbal tea, sparkling water, dried herbs and spices, sea salt, squeezed lemon, and 2 sticks of sugar-free gum. You can also have up to 140 mg of caffeine.

Everything is either ready to eat or easy to prepare, designed to be heated with water (soup, teas). How about Kroma?

On the Kroma 5-Day Reset, your meals are also prepacked into individual servings

You’ll receive a box full of 50 individual packets, and each day, you’ll prepare them as directed. All of Kroma’s meals need to be prepped in some way other than the OMG cookie butter.

Kroma’s meals contain no cane sugar, dairy, gluten, lectin, or GMOs. They often use organic ingredients with the exception of some herbs, collagen, and spices. Your daily meals are divided into 9 eating times with a total of 11 different products, which you’ll see below:

  • Break your fast: Beauty matcha latte
  • Breakfast: Super porridge
  • Hydrate: Cranberry hydration elixir
  • Boost: Blueberry acai plant-based smoothie
  • Lunch: Veggie broth with plant protein
  • Fuel: Super green elixir
  • Afternoon: Spicy passion latte
  • Energy Protein Snack: OMG cookie butter
  • Dinner: 24k chicken bone broth
  • Snooze: Calming and restore magnesium
  • Relax: Perfect fast tea

As you can see, Kroma’s plan has a lot more food, but actually comes quite close to ProLon in terms of calories. If simplicity is more your style, you might prefer ProLon’s approach.

You should keep in mind that these two plans are totally different. ProLon is a fast-mimicking plan. This means that you are restricted in what you can eat, but you will have the benefits of fasting. With Kroma, there is more freedom since the focus is on digestion, detox, and cleansing versus fasting. This may mean you do not get the full benefits of fasting.

ProLon vs Kroma: Variety

ProLon vs Kroma Review

When it comes to fasting, variety isn’t something you often think of. The programs featured in this ProLon vs Kroma review aren’t your normal everyday fasts and both of them have an incredible variety of foods, just in slightly different ways.

You’ve seen the meals included with each plan, but let’s get into the nitty-gritty of what they mean in terms of variety.

With the ProLon 5-Day Plan, you’ll receive the following meals: soups, bars, snacks, teas, L-drinks, and supplements. Within each category, you’ll have a range of flavors

For example, the Original soup flavors include vegetable, minestrone, minestrone quinoa, mushroom, and tomato. Different flavors make a big difference when you’re fasting, as they help to prevent mealtime from becoming monotonous.

ProLon does offer quite a few different flavors, and each day you’ll have something different to look forward to–even though overall, you’re eating the same type of foods.

With Kroma, you’ll eat the exact same flavors and types of foods every day. Because Kroma’s 5-Day Reset contains more mealtimes than ProLon, you’re actually getting variety in a different way.

For example. ProLon offers 6 different types of foods/supplements and you’ll eat 4 times per day. Kroma offers lattes, porridge, smoothies, broths, elixirs, teas, supplements, snacks (OMG cookie butter), and more. That’s a total of 9 categories spread out across 10 eating times each day.

However, every day on the Kroma plan, you’ll eat the same flavor of porridge for breakfast. The same cookie butter for a snack, and the same superfood elixir mid-morning. While you’re eating more variety throughout the day, you’re having less variety over your 5-day fast in terms of flavor. This might not be ideal for some.

ProLon’s foods are primarily plant-based. There is no option to go completely plant-based. Kroma has regular and 100% vegan plans. If you are vegan, then you’ll probably opt for Kroma. If not, then you might prefer the variety of flavors each day with ProLon.

ProLon vs Kroma: Price & Value

ProLon vs Kroma Review

Now is the time in this ProLon vs Kroma review to talk about pricing and value. As you probably know, these two things are related, but they’re not the same. Let’s get real about both.

ProLon’s Original 5-Day Plan costs $187 for a one-time purchase and $199 for the Gen 3 5-Day Plan. The more expensive plan offers bolder flavors, so if you’ve tried this program before, you might be interested in going for the Gen 3.

Where does value come in? Well, let’s look at exactly what you get on the ProLon 5-Day Plan:

  • 5 days of food with 4 meals per day
  • An easy-to-follow plan (all foods organized by day and meal)
  • A program developed from $48 million in research
  • A program based on science and research that won the 2016 Nobel Price in Medicine

The benefits you’ll experience on the ProLon 5-Day Plan are similar to what you’ll experience on Kroma’s plan, however, Kroma isn’t based on the same research. Because Kroma’s plans have more flexible eating, you might not experience the same level of benefits. Let’s switch over to Kroma’s pricing and value to compare.

Kroma’s 5-Day Reset costs $395 whether you choose the regular or vegan plan. Kroma also offers Deluxe ($450) and Limited Edition ($495) programs which contain additional tools and add-ons.

For the sake of this ProLon vs Kroma review, I’m comparing each of the brand’s most basic plans, which means we’ll look at what you’ll get in the Signature plan for $395

It’s also worth noting that if you choose to follow the plan again, your refill will cost $385 ($10 less). What do you get with Kroma?

  • 9 different types of foods with 10 mealtimes each day
  • Clean, high-quality ingredients
  • A doctor-backed plan
  • A program developed by a health and wellness pioneer

While ProLon’s foods are made with clean, quality ingredients, Kroma takes the cake with ingredients like ceremonial grade matcha and a range of organic nuts, seeds, fruits, and grains

While packaging isn’t always important, Kroma’s does look slightly more modern and is made from post-consumer recycled materials. Their jars are also recyclable. ProLon doesn’t mention what their packaging is made from, but it looks similar to Kroma’s.

So, which brand has more value? Well, because Kroma’s kits are higher priced, they pack them with higher quality ingredients and more sustainable packaging. These qualities give this brand high value, but are they worth paying double ProLon’s price?

Kroma’s Signature plan is $208 more than ProLon’s Original 5-Day Plan. Considering what’s included with each, for the money, ProLon has higher value–however, it still depends on what you value most.

ProLon vs Kroma: What Do Customers Think?

ProLon vs Kroma Review

We’re talking about fasting here, and that means feedback is an essential part of this ProLon vs Kroma review. Both of these programs have had significant exposure in the media, and while I value a plan featured by Vogue, it’s not necessarily indicative of its efficacy.

This section will take a deep dive into ratings and comments by real, paying customers. Let’s start with some ratings collected from around the web for ProLon:

  • Trustpilot: 4.1/5 stars, 3,520 reviews
  • Inner Body: 4.5/5 stars

ProLon’s is clearly a popular company. It was featured by GOOP, Forbes, and Byrdie, and 3,520 customers who used Trustpilot helped us see the program for what it is. Here’s a peek at some common feedback:

  • Challenging at times, but worth it in the end
  • Gives you gorgeous skin
  • Changes your relationship with food & teaches you how to eat healthily
  • Results in weight loss for many

Customers say that, indeed, ProLon’s 5-Day plan does produce results, but certain customers said they were frequently hungry. To be honest, you should kind of expect that since you’ll be eating under 1,000 calories each day. It’s still a fast, after all.

All in all, thousands of users rave about their results with ProLon, and their plan appears to deliver on what it claims. Now for Kroma’s ratings:

  • KromaWellness.com: 5/5 stars, 527 reviews
  • Google: 4/5 stars, 71 reviews

Kroma is no stranger to TikTok reviews and has quite an army of influencers behind them. The brand has also been featured in leading media outlets such as Vogue, Forbes, and Vanity Fair, and even Gweneth Paltrow endorses them.

Aside from these impressive names, Kroma has a decent collection of reviews on and off its website. Here are the most common points of feedback I found in reviews:

  • Easy to stick with
  • Love the clean ingredients & delicious foods
  • Enough to eat, not often hungry
  • OMG cookie butter is amazing

Interestingly enough, one of the most common points of feedback (whether this is good or bad is up to you), is that some of the foods/drinks are very sweet. Certain users also said they felt hungry all the time while on this fast.

I think it’s worth noting that no matter which diet plan you choose, your experience will always vary based on your existing diet and calorie intake. If you’re used to eating 3,000 calories per day, reducing your calorie intake to around 1,000 might mean you never feel satiated for the 5-day fasting window.

What’s also worth noting is that both of these plans are essentially fasts in one capacity or another. They do not deliver enough calories to sustain your energy long term, thus the 5-day format. While they deliver food so that you frequently have something to nosh on, don’t expect to feel blissfully full.

I will mention here that, when comparing feedback, I found that ProLon’s contained more stories about results. Kroma’s were mostly about its tasty food.

It also looks like customers feel more satiated with the Kroma plan, but because they invite you to eat when hungry, that’s understood. ProLon has more feedback in general and I value the simplicity of their plan in terms of fasting right.

ProLon vs Kroma: Promotions & Discounts

ProLon vs Kroma Review

Sometimes, the decision of choosing one company over another comes down to the deals they offer. This part of my ProLon vs Kroma review will focus on the discounts and promotions offered by each brand. I’ll list all of the current deals available for each below.

ProLon

  • Subscribe to save 5% on the 5-Day Reset
  • Get 10% off when you sign up for emails

Kroma

  • Refer a friend: Give $25, Get $25
  • Rewards program, spend to earn points & redeem for discounts
  • 10% off when you sign up for emails
  • Subscribe & save 5% on The 5-Day Reset

From the above comparison, you can easily see that Kroma offers more discounts. However, their 5-Day Reset is also more expensive. I appreciate that both brands offer 10% discounts when you sign up for emails and 5% off when you subscribe to their plans.

If you plan on fasting regularly, you will get more benefits from Kroma’s promotions, but you will still spend more money overall. If you’d rather pay less, ProLon’s deals are very enticing.

ProLon vs Kroma: Shipping & Returns

ProLon vs Kroma Review

We’ve all been there: the long waiting period after ordering something you can’t wait to receive. If you’re excited to start your fast, you’ll likely value a brand that delivers on time.

To suss out what shipping is like with each of these companies, I’ll compare them side by side here in this ProLon vs Kroma review along with their return policies for good measure.

ProLon

  • Ships to the USA, Canada, and some international locations
  • Ships via FedEx & USPS
  • Free shipping when you spend $250

I didn’t run into many ProLon reviews about slow or delayed shipping. It looks like the majority of customers receive their orders on time.

As for returns, all sales are final with certain exceptions. While ProLon kits cannot be returned or exchanged due to food safety reasons, if you refuse your order and have opened the box already, a $50 disposal fee per box will be charged.

Kroma

  • Ships to US & Canada
  • Offers express, standard, and ground shipping methods
  • Opt for signature upon delivery if desired
  • Orders are shipped out within 24-48 hours

There is more shipping information available on Kroma’s website, but less feedback about it online. As for refunds, Kroma doesn’t offer them unless your package has not been opened and is in good condition. If you do need to return your order, you will be charged a restocking fee and return shipping is your responsibility.

Because both of these companies deal with food, once you open the package it becomes a health and safety issue. That’s why their return policies are understandable, however, I do appreciate that they will issue refunds if something is wrong with your order.

In terms of shipping, I liked the transparency available on Kroma’s website. But that doesn’t mean they ship faster, it just means they tell you what to expect. ProLon has excellent feedback in terms of shipping. All in all, I didn’t run into much negative feedback about shipping for either brand.

Who Will You Shop With?

ProLon vs Kroma Review

Same, same, but different. In this ProLon vs Kroma review, you’ve seen what makes these brands the same but also what makes them very unique. So how do you choose? I’ll run you through a quick recap.

ProLon is a fast-mimicking plan delivering packaged soups, snacks, and drinks. Their 5-Day Plan is easy to follow and you’ll have great variety in terms of flavors, eating 4 meals made up of a few different foods each day.

ProLon has some serious science behind it and has been tested in 16 clinical trials. The brand also offers discounts and you can purchase some of your favorite products individually. They ship internationally as well.

Kroma is a nutritional cleanse in which you’ll eat 10 different items each day. There is tons of variety in your daily meals and flexibility to ensure your nutritional needs are met.

Kroma is about nutrition, not deprivation, so you should never feel starved on this plan, which is doctor-recommended. The brand also offers a range of discounts, an app, and the option to buy your favorite products separately.

Kroma’s plans are more expensive than ProLon’s but they have higher-quality ingredients and more food. Because of this, you may not get the same fast-mimicking results. ProLon ships to more locations and has more feedback online. Both are talked about by notable media outlets and have a great reputation.

Since these two brands are fairly matched, the final question you should ask yourself is: Do I want a science-backed fast-mimicking plan or a wellness-developed nutritional cleanse? Answer that and you have your winner.
