About Sofas and Stuff

Sofas and Stuff Review

Sofas and Stuff creates bespoke sofas, chairs, and beds, offering a collection of luxury furniture with a sustainable twist. Integrating eco-friendly materials throughout the line, another one of its major draws is its offer of upholstering your sofa with “any fabric in the world,” giving shoppers the utmost in terms of custom design.

As awareness of environmental issues grows, a study[1] shows consumers are becoming more interested in products that are made using eco-friendly materials. By integrating sustainable materials into its products, Sofas and Stuff is not only reducing its environmental impact, but also appealing to consumers who value sustainability.

The UK brand’s popularity is clearly marked by its 150k followers across Instagram and Facebook, as well as its features in media outlets like the Coventry Telegraph and SoGlos. If bespoke, luxury furniture is what you’re looking for, I’d highly suggest checking out my Sofas and Stuff review.

Here, I’ll guide you through the details of the brand, its best-sellers, feedback, promotions, and more to help you decide if they’re really worth buying from.

Overview of Sofas and Stuff

Sofas and Stuff Review

Founded in 2009 by Andrew Cousins, Sofas and Stuff began with a revolutionary question: What if, instead of making stock designs with pre-chosen fabrics, we “give customers exactly what they want?”

They found the answer in bespoke furniture and an endless selection of fabrics including those from around the world. Instead of a warehouse piled with cookie-cutter pieces, their sofas and chairs are made-to-order, dictated by your design preferences.

While they do offer up preset styles, you get to choose the size and fabric before their warehouse gets to work. Sofas and Stuff is still a family-owned business, run by folks with a long lineage in the trade. While Cousins’ father also owned and operated a furniture chain of 120 stores, he has seen previous success with Sofa Workshop, now owned by DFS.

Learning the dos and don’ts of the industry, Cousins made sure to make his latest brand sustainable. In 2020, he began offering Quallofil Blue cushions made from recycled ocean-bound plastic. Each cushion is made with 200 plastic bottles. It was in the same year that the brand prevented 2,811,400 bottles from polluting the ocean.

This pledge, along with their partnership with Forest Stewardship Council accredited suppliers, and options for eco-friendly fabrics has made this brand not just one to be chosen for looks, but for sustainability.

Ready for more? It’s all coming up in my Sofas and Stuff review. I’ll run you through the highlights first, then we’ll jump into a few of its best-selling pieces.

Sofas and Stuff Review

One of the most fun things about Sofas and Stuff is their fabric collection. They promise that you can pick from “any fabric in the world,” offering thousands of options online and in-store. Order a free swatch online, and when you’re ready, head back to your favorite sofa style and start designing.

When you’re there, you’ll be able to see expected shipping dates and full transparency about product size and materials. If you’re still unsure, you can always schedule a call with a fabric expert before you buy.

To give you an idea of the kinds of products you can choose from, I’ll walk you through a range of their most popular furniture next.

Sofas and Stuff Furniture Review

The name Sofas and Stuff gives away the fact that the brand makes more than just sofas. In fact, you’ll find chairs, beds, mattresses, coffee tables, and more within the line, along with snugglers which I learned is an adorable name for loveseats. Just ahead, you’ll find the details on its best-sellers.

Sofas and Stuff Alwinton 4 Seater Sofa Review

The Alwinton 4 Seater Sofa is one of the brand’s first designs. It’s still their bestseller to this day, but take one look at it you’ll easily understand why.

With curved arms and wide, plush cushions, this sofa looks like the perfect place to take an afternoon nap but is also polished enough to put in an office. With a timeless design, it features a high back and a deep seat, made with a hardwood frame and super loop springs for loft.

The cushions are made from Quallofil Blue Eco fiber while the back cushions are made from duck feathers. The feet are made of oak, but you’ll have your choice of finishes. Normally $3,387, you can get this sofa on sale right now for $2,879.

Sofas and Stuff Lewes 3 Seater Sofa Review

From movie marathons to late-night talks, the Lewis 3 Seater Sofa is a super cushy couch for everyday living. Even though it has enough space to seat three, don’t be surprised if you find yourself hogging it all for yourself.

The Lewes sofa is an approachable design that’s plush and relaxed, with a low back, scatter cushions, and a scroll-style arm. Made with a hardwood frame, sprung back, and sprung seats, it’s as springy as it is soft.

Finished with solid wood feet in your choice of stain, you can get in on sale right now for $2,849 (regularly $3,352).

Sofas and Stuff Alwinton Sofa Bed Review

Whether it’s frequent guests or the unpreventable partner dispute, having a sofa bed around can come in handy. The Alwinton Sofa Bed has a timeless design with a Howard arm that curls downwards.

When not a bed, the seat is deep and the cushions are large, the seats are made from Quallofil Blue Eco while the back cushions are made with duck feathers. When it’s time to pull the bed out, it features Sedaflex 2-fold bed action with a natural spring mattress for a sleep that’s surprisingly comfortable. Get yours on sale for $3,465 (marked down from $4,077).

Sofas and Stuff Midhurst Chair Review

The Midhurst Chair looks like something that Nicholas Amhurst might have spent time pondering in, with an antique 18th-century design that exudes luxury and class. Made from hardwood with a sprung seat, it’s lofty and will help you up when it comes time to pace the room.

With a shallow sit-up, you’ll find writing, reading, and even texting to be easier with its straight, high back. Measuring 89cm H x 85cm W x 80cm D, add it to your study, parlor, or living room for $1,346 (was $1,583).

Sofas and Stuff Gisburn Coffee Table Review

The Gisburn Coffee Table imparts the same classic air a chessboard does. This may be due to its checked design, but there’s also sophistication in its oak and black lacquered contrast that draws attention to it in any room.

The coffee table measures 43cm x 120cm x 60cm, handcrafted from sustainable oak. Finished with rounded handles, the entire thing is made from oak with a distressed finish to give it a dated look. You can grab it on sale right now for $1,394. It’s normally $1,639.

Sofas and Stuff Redchurch Bed Review

This bed is definitely one you’ll want in your favorite color or pattern. Featuring a rounded, paneled headboard that adds dimension to bold prints and hues, it’s a great-looking piece that will make you smile when it comes time to turn in for the night.

The Redchurch Bed is made with a solid oak frame and legs, with slats that are moderately sprung and central legs to keep things stable through the night, and for years to come. Available in single, double, king, and super king sizes, prices start between $1,548 and $1,682.

Sofas and Stuff Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Sofas and Stuff Review

You probably wouldn’t buy a car without test-driving it yourself, so I wouldn’t expect you to buy furniture without knowing exactly what it’s like. That’s why in this section of my Sofas and Stuff review, I combed the web for helpful feedback to fill you in.

The brand’s website does show reviews, but they’re actually collected on Trustpilot. Sofas and Stuff averages 4.7/5 stars over 3.2k reviews. Here’s how that breaks down:

  • Excellent: 84%
  • Great: 9%
  • Average: 2%
  • Poor: 2%
  • Bad: 3%

You read that right. An astounding 93% of folks experienced at least “great” service from this brand. That’s a pretty great score. What did they like so much about it? This Sofas and Stuff review explains:

“Prior to heading to Edinburgh I had received my fabric samples, downloaded the measurements, and sized the item in my room – I found the information on the website invaluable.”

This first sentence is just the start of the review, but I have to pause to agree. I found the information provided online to be incredibly helpful, and I love how Sofas and Stuff is real about what’s in stock, what their items are made from, and how long they will take to arrive.

They continued: “I know I have made the best decision (Langland sofa bed in Portland satsuma velvet) now that my lovely new vibrant sofa is in place. This is a high-end item in terms of workmanship, comfort, and look, and arrived exactly as agreed.”

This is just one review, but it provides some great insight into what it’s like to shop with the brand in general. The next Sofas and Stuff review we’ll look at is from Houzz. There, the brand scored 5/5 stars from three reviews. One read:

“My clients and I are over the moon with our Ashdown sofas, they look absolutely beautiful within my design. I would definitely recommend them,” while another customer wrote that they were “super impressed with the luxury comfort.”

You can tell the kind of quality of Sofas and Stuff furniture just by looking at the photos, but I know that sometimes photos can be deceiving. It doesn’t sound like this is the case for this brand.

For good measure, let’s check out one final Sofas and Stuff review. This one comes from Yelp where the brand’s Parson’s location has a 3-star score from four shoppers.

Before we look at it, I’ve got to note that four comments aren’t enough to give an accurate depiction of the brand. It only takes one 1-star review and one 5-star review to create this kind of score, so you can see how that could totally throw off a final rating. Anywho, let’s press on.

One customer wrote: “LOVE our new sofa. Really knowledgeable staff and great overall experience, also the delivery guys couldn’t have been more helpful. Everyone comments on our sofa as soon as they walk into our living room, thanks Sofas and stuff!”

Another seconded the good experience and the quality of the sofas, though said theirs arrived about two weeks late. Because Sofas and Stuff creates bespoke products, they may be delayed due to fabric availability. That’s something you should keep in mind when shopping with them.

Is Sofas and Stuff Legit?

Sofas and Stuff Review

Part of my Sofas and Stuff review’s job is to suss out repeat complaints and red flags. As I browsed through the comments on each website, I made sure to keep an eye out for any that popped up.

I don’t have to tell you that the majority of comments online were positive, but I did find a few (like, very few) that mentioned lengthy shipping times, as well as one customer that wrote of poor after-sale service.

For a complaint to become a red flag, we need to see it more than once and on more than one platform. I didn’t see anything alarming across websites. What I did see were some very satisfied customers.

Is Sofas and Stuff Worth It?

Sofas and Stuff Review

Eco-friendly products have always been important to me, so it’s one of the first things I look out for at any company. I was happy to find that Sofas and Stuff is committed to creating sustainable products, with many recycled and sustainable fabric options among their seemingly endless selection.

Not only that, but they build with FSC-certified wood and use recycled plastic bottles in many of their cushions. So with sustainability checked off the list, why else should you buy from this brand?

Bespoke services will always be popular. Creating a custom piece for your living room means you don’t have to settle for an average item. And while I know that not all of us searching for a sofa can pay the kind of price tag attached to these, I appreciate that this brand offers interest-free payment plans and sales as well.

Sofas and Stuff Promotions & Discounts

FAQ

Sofas and Stuff Review

Who owns Sofas and Stuff?

Andrew Cousins is the founder, managing, director, and owner of Sofas & Stuff. Merging online shopping convenience with the luxury of bespoke style, he created an outstanding brand that slows down the shopping experience.

Does Sofas and Stuff ship internationally?

No. Sofas and Stuff deals with large furniture pieces, so they’ve kept their business to UK customers only. With that said, the brand will deliver orders to an international shipper in the UK for those who live elsewhere.

What is Sofas and Stuff’s Shipping Policy?

Every single item that Sofas and Stuff makes is handmade in Britain. Their workshops are located in Nottingham and Preston, and each item is made to your specifications. Because of this, your sofa will take a while before it ships out.

The brand estimates an average of 8 weeks so it’s best to order your items well ahead of the time you need them. The production of your sofa may also take longer, but I’ve read in customer reviews that 8 weeks is about spot on.

Once your sofa, couch, or table is ready for delivery, you’ll receive an email with a delivery date. If this date works for you, confirm it, but if not, you can change it to a time and date that do. Delivery times are Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and you’ll need to be home for your delivery. Here’s what else you should know about it:

  • Delivery to mainland England, Wales, or Scotland costs $135
  • Orders with 4 pieces cost $227
  • Orders with 6 pieces cost $318
  • For a quote on orders with 10 pieces or more, call their customer service team for a quote

Orders sent to hard-to-reach places will have higher delivery costs. The base cost for delivery to these areas is $181. Sofas and Stuff can store your order for up to three weeks. After that time, they will charge you $30 per week per item.

What is Sofas and Stuff’s Return Policy?

All sofas from Sofas and Stuff come with a 15-year warranty for their frames and springs. It ensures that your sofa should be free from defects in materials and workmanship for that period.

You have the right to return your order for any reasons that do not apply to this guarantee and the brand will gladly take back your items as long as they are not special “made-to-order.” To return an item, here’s what you should know:

  • You need to make sure it’s in brand new condition with all of the original packaging
  • Call customer service to start the process
  • They will schedule a pick-up date and once your item has been inspected, issue a refund
