Overview of Surratt Beauty

Surratt Beauty Review

Surratt Beauty founder Troy Surratt established the brand in 2012, in partnership with fashion entrepreneur Heleyne Mishan-Tamir. Born in Japan, Surrat is the protégé of makeup legend Kevyn Aucoin, and has worked with such A-list celebrities as Adele, Jennifer Lopez, and Charlize Theron.

As Tamir put it in an interview, the brand takes inspiration from Japan because “as a culture, they believe in mastering an art. They are always looking to be the best—to constantly improve the existing and make it better. This is something that we strive to do at Surratt.”

Blending the painstaking craftsmanship of Japanese technique with a user-friendly and -focused approach, the NYC-based brand creates pro-level makeup that is customizable and personalizable. This is part of Surratt’s core belief that “our customer [should be] co-creating alongside us.”

Surratt Beauty Products Review

Surratt Beauty Review

Surratt beauty products are designed for modern makeup enthusiasts with a spirit of adventure who love to play around with their look. The brand seeks to inspire exploration and creativity in their customers, just as they themselves are constantly pushing themselves to innovate and anticipate the future of beauty.

Below, this Surratt Beauty review spotlights some of the most notable Surratt makeup products, from galactic-inspired eyeshadows to expression-accentuating brow pomades.

Surratt Dew Drop Foundation Review

Some foundations can have an unfortunate drying effect, settling into pores and accentuating fine lines. The Dew Drop Foundation provides light-to-medium coverage while making skin appear hydrated and supple

Available in 20 shades (to find your exact shade, refer to the Surratt Dew Drop Foundation swatches), this Surratt foundation gives you a lightweight, natural-looking finish, without that dreaded foundation line around the perimeter of your face.

Surratt recommends that you apply one to two drops of the foundation to the back of your hand, and work outwards from the center of your face, blending onto the forehead, nose, and chin with one of their thicker Surratt Beauty brushes.

If you’re into powder foundations, you can also try the Surratt loose powder compact, and finish with Surratt grisaille to contour your face. The Dew Drop Foundation comes in a 19 g bottle, and retails for $75.

Surratt Halogram Collection Review

Eyeshadow is one of the reasons wearing makeup is so fun. It’s a versatile product that can be mixed and matched with other colors, elegant and minimal, or extend past the eyelid for an out-there, funky look.

The Surratt Halogram Collection is a cosmically inspired line of 7 striking shades that push everyday beauty to infinity and beyond. They’re designed to be layered on top of the Surratt Dark Matter or Light Matter cream shadows to give you a glittering, starry-eyed finish.

This unique collection features shades ranging from coolly pale Ultraviolet to darkly explosive Supernova. Customize your Surratt duo chrome eyeshadow palette with the shadows of your choice, and get ready to enter the space age.

If a powder is more your thing, try the Surratt Zibeline Artistique Eyeshadow, or Surratt Prismatique Eyes for a tag-team cream and powder palette. Each Halogram Collection pigment sells for $30.

Surratt Lid Lacquer Review

We love lip gloss for the way it makes those puckers pop; Lid Lacquer applies the same principle to our eyes. This is no standard-issue eyeshadow, but a pigment-packed gloss that glides on easily and coats eyelids with a luminous glow.

Inspired by urushi, a tradition of Japanese lacquerware making whose history goes back 7,000 years, the Lid Lacquer comes in eight shades, from the sheer and soft Kira Kira (Crystalline Gloss) to this Surratt Beauty review’s personal favorite: Pika Pika (Galactic Black), which has a speckled, vinyl-like quality.

Easily applicable with your fingertip or a sponge-tip applicator, the Surratt Lid Lacquer is $36.

Surratt Expressioniste Brow Pomade Review

Hair pomade is a great, non-gel-based alternative for keeping your hair in place and going in the direction you want it to. Surratt’s Expressioniste Brow Pomade does the same job for your eyebrows, giving you hold and definition without the shininess or the hard or greasy feeling you get from gels or waxes.

The Surratt brow pomade comes in four shades, ranging from clear to black. Surratt advises applying it after using the Expressioniste Brow Pencil so that you can maintain your brows’ shape and line. Get flexible hold all day long with the Expressioniste Brow Pomade for $35.

Surratt Expressioniste Brow Pencil Refill Review

Artfully applied eyebrows can change the whole look of our faces, or provide the perfect finishing touch to dramatic makeup. The Expressioniste Brow Pencil Refill lets you experiment with a whole range of brow shapes with its easy-to-use refillable pencil cartridges.

To load up, simply insert a cartridge in the Surratt Brow Pencil holder and twist. Use the pencil to finely detail your brows, and you can also take advantage of the brush stored in the opposite end for a broader effect.

Get the Expressioniste Brow Pencil Refill for $18, in your color choice of blonde, black, red, or brunette.

Surratt Lipslique Review

A Surratt lip gloss like the sheer Surratt Beauty Lip Lustre can give you an attention-grabbing high shine, but sometimes you may want to aim for a more subtle look, with just a hint of color and a touch of that alluring lustre.

Lipslique is a great option for everyday wear, when you’re just looking to brighten up your face without the drama of lipstick or the unmistakable glimmer of gloss. Infused with macadamia seed oil, it also hydrates your lips—so, bonus! Get it in one of 18 different shades for $34.

Surratt Relevee EyeLash Curler Review

Patented in 1931, the eyelash curler has stood the test of time, with a design that hasn’t changed much over the years; clearly, whoever invented these things knew what they were doing. (FYI, it was William Joseph Purdue. Keep that one in your back pocket for your next game of Trivial Pursuit.)

The award-winning, hand-calibrated, and beautifully designed Relevee Lash Curler gives you a two-stage clamp that allows you to control the amount of force you’re exerting on those delicate lashes of yours. That gentleness is heightened by the soft silicone pads, which help give you the natural curl you want without crimping.

Exquisitely made in Japan, this curler will give your lashes the curve and length you’re looking for, and set them up for the finishing touch of the Surratt mascara. Give your lashes the royal treatment with the Relevee Lash Curler for $34.

Surratt Relevee Eyelash Curler Refill Pads Review

Your Relevee Lash Curler is built to last, but all that squeezing means that its pads are going to get worn out eventually. So once you’ve gone through the complimentary replacement pad that comes with the curler, you’d better have the Relevee Lash Curler Refill Pads on hand.

These Surratt eyelash curler refills will help keep your lashes looking their best without the need for mascara, or set you up for even longer lashes when you do wear it. Surratt recommends cleaning them with a dry cloth after curling to prolong their lifespan, and replacing them every three to four months.

Get five of these Relevee Lash Curler Refill Pads for $10, and keep those lashes looking luscious all year round.

Surratt Custom Palette Review

Don’t you hate it when you head to the eyeshadow section of your favorite makeup store, and find yourself torn between two palettes because one has neutrals but the other has brights? Sometimes you even buy an entire palette because it has one color you like, and never use the rest.

That’s why the Custom Palette is such a cool concept. Pick and choose whatever you want with this refillable Surratt palette—whether that’s 3 eyeshadows and 1 Surratt Artistique blush, or all Surratt Beauty Artistique eyeshadow and no Surratt blush for a full Surratt eyeshadow palette.

The Surratt Custom Palette comes in two sizes and prices: the four-tile Petite will run you $20, or you can go big with the six-tile Grande for $25.

Surratt Beauty Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Surratt Beauty Review

So we know that Surratt has global awards up the wazoo, but at the end of the day, it’s the little people who get to say yea or nay. This Surratt Beauty review consulted customer reviews on the company website, Sephora, and Reddit to see what customers think of this high-flying beauty brand.

Let’s start with the Surratt Relevee Lash Curler, which pulls in a 4.7-star average rating on the brand website based on testimonials from 58 customers. One rave review commended the curler’s durable construction and gentle touch on lashes.

Doesn’t break my lashes. Love how it’s made with the sturdy handles. Curls lashes beautifully! I’ve tried many and this is by far my fav!” the user wrote.

Over at Sephora, 90 reviews of the Surreal Foundation Wand give the product an average of 4.1 stars. One happy customer praises the foundation’s convenience and smooth application. This buyer also draws attention to the high price that some of the more negative takes on the brand mention:

I love that it is very portable, and quick application. It is very pricey but the formula went on smoothly, didn’t emphasize any defects and gave great coverage without looking cakey.

In a Reddit thread about the Expressioniste Brow Pomade, one user, who referred to her brows as “kind of a-holes,” said that the fantastic hold of the pomade made this product a go-to:

This sets my brows personally like no other. I like to sometimes do a bit of a brow comb over from an area in the front with long hair over a spot that is continuing to punish me for mistakes of the early 2000s and this is the only product that keeps them in place.”

That’s the good, so what about the bad, not to mention the ugly? There’s pretty much none of the last to speak of, thankfully for a beauty brand (though one customer who wasn’t as impressed with the foundation wand wrote that “The wand applies the foundation with noticeable streaking”).

The only true repeated complaint that this Surratt Beauty review could find was that, while Surratt Beauty products are lovely, they can be pricey. But when you’re talking about custom-crafted products, a slightly higher-than-average cost kind of goes with the territory.

Is Surratt Beauty Worth It?

Surratt Beauty Review

Is Surratt worth it? Well, customers certainly love their products, often rating them above 4 stars. The only downside for some is the price. But in comparison to other top-of-the-line beauty brands, the prices of Surratt products are quite reasonable.

This Surratt Beauty review would say their products are affordable for most, and for higher-priced products like their artisanal brushes, you can keep your eyes open for a Surratt brush sale. Customers say that the makeup is high quality, but as with any line, some items are more popular than others.

An in-depth look at customer feedback revealed no major red flags. We appreciate that their products are cruelty-free, and that most of them are vegan. Surratt also has great promotions going on currently, and their return policy is straightforward. All in all, this Surratt Beauty review believes their products are worth the buy
