10 Best TV Brands

Shopping For The Best TV Brands

TVs have gotten bigger, brighter, and thinner over the last century. With earlier sets looking nothing like they do today, a lot has changed, a lot has changed since the first electronic television was invented in 1927.

That’s no wonder since, before 1950, under 10% of American households owned a TV. Today, nearly every household has a TV, and usually, they have more than one. Naturally, there are tons of options for quality TVs to meet that number. Here, I’ll introduce you to the best TV brands

Since you have so many options when buying a TV, I’m here to help make that process a little easier. Plus, I’ll decode the fancy terminology so you get exactly what you need. Nothing more, nothing less. So go ahead and get comfy, and let’s get to it.

10 Best TV Brands

1. Hisense

Best TV Brands
Hisense

Here’s the thing about Hisense: it’s just recently become one of the most popular North American TV companies. Why? While it was founded in 1969 by Zhou Houjian, it didn’t start selling TVs in the US until recently.

Loved for its value, people flocked to the brand after seeing how affordable its top-of-the-line products were. They compete well with greats like LG, but they’re much more affordable. You’ll find four types of TVs in their selection, including HD, UHD, Quantum Dot, and Laser TV.

You can get a 32” LED Smart TV for as low as $200 or the 75” 4K Dual Cell ULED TV for $2,000.

Highlights

  • Great value at low prices
  • LED, ULED, Quantum Dot, & Laser TV
  • Up to 100” in sizes
  • 4K options
  • 3,000 Lumens
  • Award-winning devices

2. Sony

Best TV Brands
Sony

There’s a reason Sony has a record label and Hisense doesn’t. This company is all about sound. Of course, this legendary brand is well-known for its picture-perfect TVs as well.

Founded in 1946 by Akio Morita and Masaru Ibuka in Japan, their first product was interestingly an electric rice cooker.

You’ve probably seen the name on movies and game consoles, but in the realm of TVs, Sony also reigns supreme. Its selection is incredibly up-to-date, but you can still shop for simpler models that are a little less expensive than its other TVs.

Look out for Mini LED and OLED options, as well as HDR options that take the cake for movie lovers. Prices range from $480-$20,000.

Highlights

  • Full Array LED, Mini LED, & OLED TVs
  • Vivid picture
  • Awesome sound quality
  • HDR and Smart TV options
  • Designed with the environment in mind

3. LG

Best TV Brands
LG

If it’s an XL TV you’re after, LG has it. With options up to 88” in OLED, QNED Mini LED, and Nano Cell, you’ll enjoy a crystal clear image with incredible detail

Making impressive electronics is sort of what LG does best. Founded in 1958 by Kwoo In-Hwoi, the brand is known for its high-performing TVs and something they call the Magic Remote that makes app surfing easier.

What sets LG apart from the competition? It’s gotta be its design. For example, certain models are designed to lie flush against a wall, reducing gaps and giving your home a more streamlined look.

LG offers a full range of TVs from HD to Nano Cell, meaning its prices vary greatly too. If you’re looking for affordable options, you’ll find them as low as $120. If not, you can get an 88” 8K OLED Smart TV for $30,000.

Highlights

  • HD to Nano Cell TV options
  • 4K & 8K resolution TVs are available
  • Smart TV options
  • Affordable models
  • Sleek design
  • Up to 88” in sizes

4. Vizio

Best TV Brands
Vizio

Vizio is actually the only name on my list of best TV brands that is based in the US. You can find their HQ in California to be exact. Founded in 2002 by William Wang, the brand has a small product lineup of SmartTVs that spans across HD, UHD, OLED, and QLED types.

Users say that Vizio TVs offer great color contrast, so this brand might be a great pick for you if you like to get totally immersed in your favorite shows.

They all have 4K resolution and WiFi 6e for lag-free gaming. Winning awards from CES Innovation and Newsweek, Vizio is a solid choice for picture quality and offers sizes from 45” to 75”. Prices start at $170 and go up to $1,900.

Highlights

  • Very affordable options
  • HD, UHD, OLED, & QLED models
  • From 45”-75” sizes
  • 4K resolution

5. Samsung

Best TV Brands
Samsung

Like a few other names on my list of best TV brands, Samsung is known for its electronics. That means it’s an easy choice for those who aren’t sure which TV to pick.

Founded in 1938 by Lee Byung-Chull, the brand’s first-ever product was a black and white television, so they’ve been at it a long time.

Of course, if you take a look at their TV selection today, you’ll see how far they’ve come. As one of the first brands to launch QLED televisions, they’re a leader in advanced electronics and are loved for their perfectly balanced images. You might notice brighter colors from this brand as well as blacker blacks.

It should come as no surprise that Samsung has both 4K and 8K televisions in its lineup, along with Neo QLED. There isn’t one HD TV in sight, so expect higher prices from this brand that range from $1,000-$10,000+.

Highlights

  • High-quality TVs only (including Crystal UHD and Neo QLED)
  • Sizes from 35”-85”
  • 4K & 8K
  • Impressive picture quality
  • Smart TV options

6. Panasonic

Best TV Brands
Panasonic

A Japanese brand, it may be tricky to find a Panasonic TV in your country, but if you can, we recommend checking them out. With a reputation for striking color thanks to their signature OLED panels, for immersive entertainment, this brand’s selection of LED, 4K, and OLED TVs are the way to go.

Founded in 1918 by Kōnosuke Matsushita aka the “God of Management”, Panasonic originally made electric light sockets, branching out to include other electronics in 1935. You can get your hands on one of its TVs for $1,000-$4,600.

Highlights

  • Not for sale in the USA or Canada
  • LED, UHD, & OLED
  • Dolby digital sound
  • Incredible color display

7. Philips

Best TV Brands
Philips

Since the experience of watching often hands on sound quality, Philips comes highly recommended—its higher models especially. Equipped with Ambilight Technology, these TVs actually project colors onto the wall behind your TV for a next-level entertainment.

Founded in the Netherlands in 1981 by Frederik Philips and his son. Their first-ever product was a light bulb. Growing to offer a wide range of home tech, this impressive brand isn’t one to miss out on. If you like smart, immersive technology, you can get a Philips TV for $142-$668.

Best TV Brands
Sceptre

Sceptre might just be the most affordable name on this list of best TV brands. Known for its prices that won’t make you wince, you might be surprised to find that they come with similar features to more expensive brands, like UHD 4K resolutions.

Based in the USA, this 1984-founded brand is popular among those in need of a modern TV without the fancy features. LED TVs are as low as $150, UHD models go up to $2,500.

Highlights

What is Considered the Best TV?

Best TV Brands

The best TV has got to be the Samsung QN90A. Offering vivid images through a 1” thick QLED screen, if you’re looking for the best picture possible, I suggest checking out this TV which comes with a solar-chargeable remote. Win.

Which Brand of TV is the Best?

Best TV Brands

Again, I’m going to have to give this one to Samsung. Even though it’s a more expensive brand, its TVs are of outstanding display quality. It has a wide variety of options in 4K and 8K and comes in sizes up to 85”. If you’re looking for an impressive television, definitely go with this brand.

Are There Different Types of TV?

Best TV Brands

There are a few different types of TVs, and you’ve met a few throughout my list of the best TV brands. As a refresher, here are the four main types you will find on the market:

  1. LCD: liquid crystal diode
  2. LED: light-emitting diodes
  3. OLED: organic light-emitting diodes
  4. QLED: quantum dot light-emitting diodes

What’s the difference? While LED is technically a type of LCD, LEDs emit light using diodes as their name suggests, while LCDs use fluorescent lights. This means that as the newer counterpart, LEDs last longer, are more power efficient, and have better picture quality.

OLED takes the technology to the next level and is different from the other two as it uses pixels that produce its light. It uses even less energy than typical LEDs.

Finally, we have the QLED, which is more similar to the original LCD than OLED but is even more bright and accurate in terms of color thanks to its use of quantum dots.

How Do I Pick a Good TV?

Best TV Brands

More expensive doesn’t always mean better. To pick the right TV for your home, you’ll want to consider these points as you browse through the best TV brands.

Brand

The best TV brands will all be names you’ve probably heard of before. That’s why they’re here. But at the same time, not all of them will have what you’re looking for, and chances are, you’ll feel pulled to one over another either because of its story, branding, or reputation.

Quality

No matter what you buy, you want it to be of good quality. The best TV brands all offer good quality TVs, though some of their models are higher quality than others. Remember, that with higher quality comes a higher price tag. Be on the lookout for resolution, refresh rate, and Smart features.

Screen Size

Not all of us need a massive TV, but they have their perks. Decide how big of a screen you need for your home by either measuring the size of your existing TV or wall or thinking about how many people will be watching it at a time.

Screen Resolution

Right now, there are SD, HD, 4K, and 8K resolutions available for TVs. Screen resolution is the number of pixels on your screen, so choosing 8K will give you a more lifelike image with more detail. That said, 4K is still high quality.

HDR

High Dynamic Range is a feature of 4K Ultra High Def resolution. It gets rid of old limitations in terms of brightness and colors and expands the range for a more vivid picture. It means dark colors are now darker and lights are much lighter. It also shows more shades of gray than before.

Refresh Rate

The refresh rate is the speed at which images refresh, creating a smooth flow of motion. Right now, TVs are available at 60 Hz or 120Hz.

HDMI and Connections

If you’re into gaming or still have that DVD collection, you might want to make sure your new TV has the right connectivity options. Newer TVs are usually equipped with HDMI, but some come with more ports than others.

Audio

If you’re big into how your TV sounds, you’ll likely want to go with a brand known for its attention to sound like Sony. With these, you may experience clearer sound and more precise sound options than you would with others.

Voice Control

Flipping through channels is fussy and annoying. Who needs it? You won’t if you buy a TV with voice control. Allowing you to control your TV by speaking into your remote, if this is a must for you, be sure to go with a brand that offers it. Not all of the best TV brands do.

Smart TV

Smart TVs make watching your favorite shows, streaming, and listening to music incredibly convenient. Essentially packing all of your entertainment in one place, you can easily swap from one app to the next, sync your devices, and get online all on your TV.

Price

You don’t have to pay a fortune to get a great TV. If you want all of the bells and whistles, be prepared to spend a pretty penny since crystal clear audio, a vivid image, and Smart features don’t come cheap. With that said, all of the names on my list of best TV brands offer something great for every budget.

FAQ

Best TV Brands

Is OLED TV better than LED TV?

Yes. OLED produces a more vibrant, vivid image than LED LCD does. It’s better with the dark-light balance and gives you a wider viewing angle. This means if you have friends over to watch the game, they’ll get a better view. OLED has a higher refresh rate as well.

Is 8K TV worth it?

Some people hype up 8K TVs, but the results are in: you’d do better with a higher quality 4K TV since it works better with a wider range of content than 8K does.

Are bigger TVs really better?

Getting a bigger TV is all about enjoying the picture quality more. You’ll be able to see the screen easier than you would with a smaller TV. This might help you enjoy watching TV more and get more out of the shows you watch regularly (think: seeing the intensity of an action scene or that last-second touchdown more clearly).

Bigger TVs aren’t necessarily better as they can have poor resolutions. Instead, focus on getting a TV with a resolution of at least 4K.

What’s the best way to enjoy a TV?

Watching TV has become a normal part of modern life. It’s a casual thing we do daily, so casual in fact, we often don’t realize what a privilege it is to have a TV in our home. To get a little more enjoyment out of watching TV, consider switching up how you normally do it.

Here are some ideas:

  • Don’t do it all the time
  • Get a high-quality TV
  • Create the perfect environment
  • Watch it with friends or family

How long can a TV last?

TVs last between 40,000 to 100,000 hours. That’s about 4-10 years. This amount of time, of course, depends on how much you use it and how well you maintain your TV. To prolong the life of your TV, turn it off when you’re not around it.

Is a TV a good investment?

It’s a good idea to invest in a TV that’s at least 4K. It doesn’t make sense to buy anything under that amount right now. If you’re into video games, you’ll likely want to pay more for a TV with a higher refresh rate (120 Hz over 60Hz).

Other things to consider investing in are SmartTVs and OLEDs. These are two things that can really help get the most out of what you’re watching thanks to improved convenience and better image quality.

In other words, there are plenty of reasons why investing in a TV is a good idea. But they only apply if you’re someone who watches TV a lot, is into gaming, and wants the added convenience of having all of your favorite streaming platforms in one place.
