Overview of Zola Wedding
Shan-Lyn Ma and Nobu Nakaguchi spent their time attending many weddings and sifting through tons of registries. In 2013, they found themselves uninspired by their peers’ registries and realized how time-consuming and stressful it is to plan a wedding without the proper tools.
So, with their tech background, they decided to “reinvent the wedding planning and registry experience.” They launched Zola as an online wedding registry with their old colleague Kevin Ryan. The site allowed couples to register for cash funds, gifts, and trips all in one place, offering modern couples way more convenient options than traditional methods.
In 2017, Zola started offering planning services outside of their registry, providing couples with the opportunity to create websites, guest lists, invitations, and checklists in one space. After seeing more success, the company opened a pop-up shop in New York City, partnered with Crate & Barrel, and offered its own products in their online store.
Now that you know a bit more about the brand, I’ll steer this Zola Wedding review into some of its highlights:
- The company offers an online wedding registry, guest list management, invitations, and more to couples
- A one-stop-shop for all your pre-wedding needs
- Curates various products on their website for purchase and registrations
- Offers savings and discounts before and after your wedding
- Free ground shipping on most orders
- 90-day return policy
With all the hustle and bustle wedding planning brings, you can get some peace of mind knowing everything you need is in one place.
Zola offers multiple tools to help you stay organized ahead of walking down the aisle. So, keep reading this Zola Wedding review to learn how the website operates.
Zola Wedding Review
As I mentioned, Zola helps customers with their gift registry, invitations, and more. They can even help set up a website for you and your future spouse to help guests find all of your wedding details. So, let’s get into some of their available services.
Zola Wedding Registry
The Zola Wedding Registry compiles all of your desired gifts, trips, experiences, and honeymoon funds in one place. It makes picking out gifts easy and streamlined, saving you from walking around department stores and choosing your favorite items manually.
Zola partners with over 800 brands to help couples list their dream destinations, airline gift cards, or appliances. Then, once the registry is available, guests can pick the items from the online store, and couples can choose if they want to exchange an item or when to ship them.
You can even personalize your registry by adding photos and writing blurbs about your favorite items. It’s important to note that the company requires a 2.3% cash fund fee, but it’s one of the lowest rates you’ll find. Once you receive your items, Zola also offers “Thank You” notes to show your gratitude.
Zola Wedding Invitations
Next in this Zola Wedding review, I’m looking at their Invitations. The company offers many beautiful and contemporary options, and couples can customize each one in their own way. There are over 550 designs to choose from, and you can choose colors based on your wedding motif.
Zola artists carefully design each invitation, and additional customization options are available on product pages. Styles range from simple to more artistic designs, so you are sure to find something that fits your style. For example, the Esperanza Classic will match a formal aesthetic beautifully.
You can even choose different paper types, colors, and silhouettes. The Zola Wedding invitations start at $2 per invite.
Zola Wedding Websites
Creating a wedding website can help your guests find all the info they need in one spot. Zola Wedding Websites will save you, your family, and your friends loads of time.
Instead of answering endless emails before the big day, you can include details like directions to the venue, dress code, RSVPs, and potential accommodations all in one spot.
Zola offers over 450 designs with matching invitations on their website. You can choose from whimsical to classic designs and even select your website address in the process. Templates like the Westshore design can showcase a laidback beach wedding, helping your guests find your registry and tick off their meal preferences before the ceremony begins.
Starting your wedding website with Zola is totally free.
How Does Zola Wedding Work?
Zola’s free wedding planning services include a registry, seating chart, gift tracker, and more, depending on what you need. Signing up is free. Then you will be able to easily design and personalize a website that can beautifully tell your story while giving your guests your wedding details.
As for the registry, the process is straightforward. Upon signing up, you can choose physical and digital gifts from the company’s store. You can also create cash funds for a future purchase or add gifts from different retailers.
Once you’re all set, guests will be able to use your registry to shop for you. Couples will receive notifications every time guests buy an item and a 20% post-wedding discount that activates after your wedding. So, for 6 months after getting married, you can buy the remaining gifts for 20% off.
Who Is Zola Wedding For?
Zola Wedding is for future newlyweds looking for an easier way to organize their affairs. Having a registry, RSVP tracker, guest list, and more in one place takes a lot of pressure off wedding planning, making the process much less overwhelming.
Zola Wedding Reviews: What Do Customers Think?
Of course, I can’t end this Zola Wedding review without looking at what customers have to say about their online wedding services. So, I searched the web to find reviews outside of the Zola website as well, finding some on Yelp and Wedding Wire. Here’s how they are rated:
- Zola: 4.8/5 stars after over 100k reviews
- Yelp: 2.5/5 stars from 157 reviews
Customers praised the service’s simplicity and its gorgeous website designs. One couple wrote: “It is a great website, especially if you have no idea what you’re doing and need some help. I know that I didn’t know where to start, so this was perfect for me. It helped me to stop procrastinating and start planning.”
The company also received some praise on a Wedding Wire thread, with users complimenting the company for similar reasons. One reviewer said: “I have loved using Zola so far and have done the same thing as previous posters and linked my registries. I love the “group gifting” and cash fund options. I absolutely LOVE the website portion, and it was all super simple to use.”
Over on Yelp, one user wrote: “Had a very pleasant experience multiple times with customer service involving items shipped and returns. They have a great selection of items, and we really enjoyed making our registry and wedding website through Zola!
Unfortunately, their Yelp page does have some less favorable Zola Wedding reviews citing quality issues with invites, technical issues, and unresponsive customer service. Luckily, the company promptly responds to these complaints and encourages customers to reach out privately to solve the problem.
So while there are some critical reviews of this company, it seems that their customer service team is on top of issues. Zola knows just how important your special day is and want to make sure they are taking away your planning-related stress, not adding to it.
Zola vs The Knot
These days, there are plenty of wedding websites to help you and your guests find everything they need for your big day. So, how does Zola compare to other companies? I decided to look at The Knot to help you make an informed decision.
First, let’s look at a few similarities:
- Both services are free
- Both offer many design templates and RSVP services
- Couples can password-protect their websites and organize guest and mailing lists
- They have the same returns policy
So, they seem pretty similar on the surface. But, I did find a few differences:
- Zola’s registration service is more user-friendly
- The Knot ships to more locations
- The Knot users are subject to more fees for shipping and cash funds
So, while both websites make wedding planning easier, Zola is a bit more streamlined and easy to navigate. But, The Knot has a bigger reach, with shipping to international locations. So, which one will you choose?
Is Zola Wedding Legit?
Zola Wedding seems pretty legit. It’s one of the most popular wedding websites and registries, receiving much praise from newlyweds. There are a couple of complaints about quality issues that I did notice, as mentioned above. But, it looks like any issues are solved privately, as evidenced by their Yelp page.
Is Zola Wedding Worth It?
As I said, weddings can be stressful for the couple and guests. But, Zola offers simple services and beautiful designs for newlyweds to organize their wedding details while giving guests an easy way to access them.
I think planning your wedding with the company is worth considering based on this Zola Wedding review. I might sound like a broken record, but the website is easy to use and offers everything a couple would need in one place. Plus, you can’t argue with their free available services.
Zola Wedding Promotions & Discounts
Planning a wedding can be costly, so getting a few discounts here and there pays off. Luckily, when you refer a friend to Zola, you can both earn $20 in Zola credits when your referral spends $100.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any other discounts, but I’d suggest following their social media pages for promotions!
