Overview of Hygge & West

Hygge & West Review

Founders Aimee Lagos and Christiana Coop are both long-time besties and business partners. Naturally, their friendship coupled with extensive knowledge in interior design led them down the garden path to form their own brand.

Formally, Lagos and Coop started as a distributor for a Danish home goods company. They decided to start creating their own wallpaper after discovering illustrator Julia Rothman, who designed their first-ever pattern.

Established in 2008, Hygge & West continue to sell charming prints on its website. Oh, and did I mention that their debut pattern was called Daydream? While it’s supposed to mirror the design itself, you can say it’s a metaphor for how H&W started.

It’s worth noting that this brand also sells other products such as trays and shower curtains. But to keep things brief, I will take a look at some of their best-sellers for homeowners to consider in my Hygge & West review. First, let’s go over some highlights.

Hygge & West Daydream (Green) Wallpaper Review

Hygge and West Review
Hygge & West Daydream Wallpaper

Featuring a gorgeous illustration of fluffy clouds and soaring birds, the Daydream Wallpaper gives off a meditative vibe for homeowners who want that elusive peace of mind.

In my opinion, it makes a great backdrop for nurseries… But, this popular pattern has been used by customers in every room of the house from dining rooms to powder rooms. It’s also worth noting that this print was one of Hygge & West’s very first collection, and was designed by illustrator Julia Rothman.

If you’re not a fan of its color palette, then you’ll be glad to know that the Daydream Wallpaper is offered in a wide variety of hues such as green, pink, and blue. Provided in traditional or peel and stick, here are the prices for each option:

Traditional:

  • Roll 27”x 30’: $225
  • Sample 8.5” x 11”: $5
  • Sample 27” x 11”:$15

Hygge & West Bloom (Bluebell) Wallpaper Review

Hygge & West Bloom Wallpaper

City apartments aren’t typically the first choice for green thumbs. Without a backyard, most homeowners try to fill the void with a collection of houseplants. But for those who still daydream about the lush countryside, the Bloom Wallpaper can act as a solid compromise.

This modern contemporary backdrop features a series of intertwined leaves and flowers. This is perfect for city dwellers longing for lush gardens and those who find themselves struggling to keep their houseplants alive.

Available in solid colors, the one and only Emily Isabella designed this gorgeous print, which is available in multiple colorways. You can get a traditional 27” x 30’ roll of the Bloom Wallpaper for $225 or a peel and stick roll for $195. You can get an 8.5” x 11” sample of either for $5.

Hygge & West Piedmont Wallpaper Review

Whimsical and full of life, the Piedmont Wallpaper looks just as great in your guest bathroom as it does in a toddler’s playroom. Featuring a bevy of quails, rabbits, and foxes prancing through the thicket, this design comes in mist, indigo, pine, and taupe colorways in both traditional and peel and stick formats.

Inspired by American Southeast piedmonts where wildlife lives and thrives, the Piedmont Wallpaper, designed in collaboration with Helmsie, lends a spirited tone to your favorite spaces.

Pairing well with vintage decor and wooden furniture, each roll measures 27”x30’. Choose the peel and stick roll for $195 or go the traditional route for $225.

Hygge & West Alpine Garden (Ebony) Wallpaper Review

Hygge & West Alpine Garden (Ebony) Wallpaper

The Alpine Garden (Ebony) Wallpaper looks like something you’d find at an art museum. Illustrated with colorful wildflowers, grasses, and leaves, this design is made with line-art for a more subtle approach.

This charming design brings up thoughts of nature and the rural lifestyle.

Designed in collaboration with Schoolhouse, the Alpine Garden (Ebony) Wallpaper is currently offered as a traditional backdrop, with a 27” x 30’ roll going for $275.

Who Is Hygge & West For?

Hygge and West Review

If you’ve had your fill of differentiating alabaster from eggshell white, Hygge & West acts as a refreshing alternative. You can find some beautiful monochrome designs here, but the brand mostly entertains bolder prints.

Plus, wallpaper serves as a more convenient and beginner-friendly option for homeowners looking to remodel their living space. Also, it doesn’t hurt to mention that some are budget-friendly as well.

Hygge & West Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Hygge and West Review

I think it’s safe to say that Hygge & West pass the vibe check. You can’t deny how beautiful their wallpapers are, as options range from illustrated wildlife to Victorian-esque swirls. That said, style doesn’t always mean quality. For my Hygge & West review, I scoured the internet to see what customers are saying about this brand, and it’s relatively positive.

To kick things off, let’s look at some average ratings for the company’s best-selling products:

  • The Daydream Wallpaper: 84 reviews with 4.9/5 stars
  • The Bloom Wallpaper: 14 reviews with 4.9/5 stars
  • The Piedmont Wallpaper: 26 reviews with 5/5 stars
  • The Alpine Garden Multi Wallpaper: 10 reviews with 5/5 stars

I can confidently say that Hygge & West is far from false advertising. Customers seem pretty satisfied with their product quality, design, and ease of installation. Take it from one happy buyer, who left a raving Hygge & West review of its Bloom Wallpaper:

“The paper is thick and the print is great quality. It went up with no issues. Colors are exactly what I expected from the listing. I get so many compliments on it.”

There are countless reviews like that one that praise the brand’s unique wallpapers on their website. But what about elsewhere? According to sources such as Greatist and Dans Le Lakehouse, the brand’s wallpaper has managed to pass the quality control test with flying colors.

In their Hygge & West review, Greatist wrote: “Chic decor store Hygge & West, has a playful, imaginative — if limited — collection of removable wallpaper. They mostly stick to cool colors and their patterns are so detailed it might be hard to peel your eyes away from your walls.”

As for Dans Le Lakehouse, their reviewer wrote: “The Hygge & West wallpaper is amazing quality: very thick, and beautifully hand printed. The Bloom pattern is exceptionally beautiful and I love the shade of taupe. It feels and looks expensive.”
