About TB12

TB12 Sports Review

TB12 is a sports supplements, equipment, apparel, nutrition, and training company co-founded by legendary NFL quarterback Tom Brady and his personal trainer, Alex Guerrero. The brand’s products and philosophy are the foundation of Brady’s 2017 New York Times bestselling book, The TB12 Method: How to Achieve a Lifetime of Sustained Peak Performance

Given that the top QB of his generation is both the name and face of the brand, this TB12 Sports review had no problem finding plentiful media coverage about it. TB12 has received high-profile features in outlets such as the NYT, Business Insider, Rolling Stone, and CBS Sports. And as to the brand’s social media presence, just check out the digits below:

  • Instagram: 476K followers
  • YouTube: 17.5K subscribers
  • Twitter: 71.8K followers
  • Facebook: 94.5K followers

All of this has helped turn TB12 into a surefire hit in the fitness and nutrition field. According to Growjo, which tracks the fastest-growing new companies, the Brady-fronted brand now has an estimated annual revenue of $20.3M.

Nowadays, it seems like every second Instagrammer is a fitness and nutrition counselor, and while it’s likely that there aren’t too many of them with seven Super Bowl rings, one still needs to ask: does TB12 offer anything that’s significantly different from anything else on offer in this already crowded market?

Well, this TB12 Sports review is going to get to the bottom of it for you. We’ll give you an in-depth look at this brand, its products and programs, promotions and discounts, and customer feedback to help you decide if you want to join the Brady bunch or watch the show from the sidelines.

Overview of TB12

TB12 Sports Review

TB12 was launched from Brady’s former Patriots home base of Foxborough, Massachusetts in 2013. The idea for the brand was born after the QB and his longtime trainer Guerrero became captivated by the notion of bringing Brady’s own fitness and nutrition regimen—which has helped him maintain an astonishing level of performance well past his prime—to the masses.

The brand proposes an holistic approach to fitness and health, based on the concept of what Brady and Guerrero call “pliability,” which they define as “a muscle state which is supported by balanced nutrition, optimal hydration, mental fitness, and functional strength and conditioning.”

To that end, TB12 offers a full spectrum of wellness products and services, from protein and electrolyte powders, vitamins and probiotics, and premade meals to exercise equipment and in-person or virtual consultations with one of 10 “body coaches,” who structure customized fitness and nutrition programs for the brand’s clients.

TB12 now has training centers in Foxborough, Boston, and Brady and Guerrero’s new home of Tampa. The brand also has two body coaches on its roster who operate out of New York City.

So despite the big name looming over this brand, do TB12’s products, programs, and philosophy actually hold the key to a healthier lifestyle? Let’s start getting down to brass tacks with this TB12 Sports review, starting with some of the brand’s most noteworthy pros and cons.

TB12 Sports Review

Love him or hate him, Tom Brady has demonstrated that a 40-plus-year-old can still perform at top level in one of the most physically punishing of sports. Who wouldn’t want to know the secret behind that miracle? But the question is, is TB12 actually sharing that secret with you, or roping you in with false promises?

TB12 Sports Review

Ready to Be Like Brady (maybe?). In the TB12 Sports review below, we’ve spotlighted representative products from the brand’s nutrition and apparel categories.

TB12 Plant-Based Protein Review

Whether you’re vegan or non-, a gym fiend or just someone looking for a healthier alternative to animal-derived protein, TB12’s Plant-Based Protein will give you the essential elements you need to face each day like a champ. Powered by 24 grams of sustainably sourced pea protein, this sugarless powder blends seamlessly with water or milk, with no nasty clumping.

Free of dairy, soy, gluten, and preservatives, the non-GMO TB12 Sports protein powder contains all necessary amino acids with only a single gram of carbs. Available in either chocolate or vanilla flavors, the Plant-Based Protein is $39 as a one-time purchase, or $35 per order when you subscribe to receive a new container every 30, 45, 60, or 90 days.

TB12 Electrolytes Review

Active individuals know that you can’t just drink water to rehydrate after a tough game or workout session: you need to replace all those lost electrolytes that help your muscles and immune system function properly, and H2O alone just ain’t gonna cut it.

The TB12 Sports Electrolytes contain optimal levels of magnesium, sodium, and potassium as well as other essential trace minerals to provide full-spectrum hydration. Non-GMO and dairy-, gluten-, and soy-free, this powder comes in your choice of four flavors (unflavored, peach mango, lemon, or raspberry) and will run you $15.

Start and finish your day the best you can with the VitalFit x TB12 Perform & Recover Set. Each set contains 60 capsules each of the Perform supplement—which boosts your energy, sharpens your mind and focus, and armors your system against stress—and its partner Recover, which reduces soreness and stiffness following exercise.

Take two capsules of Perform in the morning, then two of Recover in the evening (preferably with food) to optimize your daily fitness regimen. Both supplements are free of gluten, dairy, and soy. The VitalFit X TB12 Perform & Recover Set is currently marked down to $110 (from $120), and you can chop that down to $94 if you spring for a subscription.

TB12 Trucker Hat Review

Arrive at your next tailgate party in style in the TB12 Trucker Hat, which, just like the Fitted Hat above, is allegedly yet another personally approved “Tom Favorite.” (Man just loves his caps, apparently.) It’s got a curved visor, a mesh back to get some air circulating among those precious follicles of yours, and durable construction for year-round wear.

You’ve got five color-combo options for this baby, so choose wisely:

  5. Red front / White mesh / Black & white logo

The TB12 Trucker Hat retails for $30.

TB12 Method Review

Here it is: the holy text, the one and only Bible of Brady. The second edition of the New York Times bestseller The TB12 Method details the superstar QB’s recipe for peak performance, including dietary, supplement, and hydration guidelines, strength and conditioning regimens, flexibility and pliability training, and more.

Including several new recipes for healthy, primarily plant-based meals, the Tao of Tom can be yours for $20.

What Is The TB12 Method?

TB12 Sports Review

The TB12 Method is a diet and exercise regimen designed by Tom Brady and his personal trainer Alex Guerrero that claims to enhance sports performance, minimize inflammation, reduce risk of injury, and promote an overall healthier lifestyle. The Method’s exercise programs are heavily focused on calisthenic (bodyweight), mobility, and flexibility training.

In terms of diet, the TB12 Method emphasizes a primarily plant-based diet consisting of whole foods in place of processed, sugary, and acidic foods. It provides strict guidelines about which foods to combine, what times you should eat, and how often and when you should be drinking water.

If this TB12 Sports review had to summarize the almighty Method in a nutshell, it would go something like, “Eat tons of fruits and vegetables, cut out the sweets and the booze, and exercise within your body’s limitations.”

Is TB12 Only For Athletes?

TB12 Sports Review

Although TB12 was born from a professional athlete’s training, both the Method and the brand’s products are intended to be used both by those who are already fitness-focused, and those who are looking to jumpstart a healthier lifestyle. In theory, you should be able to accommodate TB12’s  exercise and dietary regimens within your own life and work schedule.

Who Is TB12 For?

TB12 Sports Review

Although TB12, as mentioned above, is purportedly for everyone and anyone, given its extremely strict nutrition guidelines I would say that its primary customer base would be among those who are looking to trim down relatively quickly—and, as so many of us do, are looking to a body-beautiful celebrity for guidance.

Some critiques of TB12’s dietary regimen have suggested that it is unsustainable for the average person given the strict limits it puts on when you can eat and what foods you can combine. Also, there are questions about the seemingly arbitrary restrictions that the Method puts on certain foods.

On the other hand, the exercise portion—with its focus on calisthenics, joint flexibility, and Brady’s ballyhooed concept of “pliability”—may be quite beneficial. Not only does it reduce the physical toll that can be taken by workouts like weight training and distance running, but it could also be particularly useful for workout novices and those in the higher age ranges.

Comparison: TB12 vs. Onnit

TB12 Sports Review

As we noted at the beginning of this TB12 Sports review, the Brady-Guerrero brand was entering a crowded field when it emerged on the scene. Onnit is another high-profile lifestyle brand headed by Aubrey Marcus, a holistic health-and-wellness guru who has a multi-platform presence as an NYT-bestselling author, podcast host, and public speaker.

Like TB12, Onnit sells supplements, protein powders, exercise equipment, and fitness apparel. One of the distinctions between the two brands, though, is price. For example, while TB12’s whey protein is $42, Onnit’s will run you about $60. Onnit’s electrolyte hydration mix goes for the same price as the latter, whereas the equivalent amount of the TB12 version is just $36.

So it looks like Tom may have the edge here in terms of price tags. On the other hand, Onnit supplements (ha!) its merchandise with a ton of free content (articles, podcasts, videos, etc.) that advise customers on how to get the most out of the brand’s products.

While you can certainly use TB12 products on their own, the brand’s promotion of itself as a complete system implies that you need to shell out to learn how it all really fits together.

TB12 Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

TB12 Sports Review

So let’s get down to it: what are buyers really saying about this supposedly Tom-tastic health and fitness system? This TB12 Sports review perused feedback at the brand website and Facebook page as well as Amazon to find out.

At tb12sports.com, the Plant-Based Protein scores 4.5/5 stars based on an even 800 reviews. Buyers expressed love for both of the flavors and the powder’s easy mixability. “Great protein for morning and post-workout smoothies, easy to mix, easy on your stomach, and great tasting!” said one commenter, succinctly summing up the general feeling.

On the exercise front, the TB12 Looped Resistance Bands also bring in 4.5/5 stars from 109 reviews. Customers emphasize how this form of low-impact training has shown benefits in all areas of their lives, as with the following comment from a satisfied buyer:

The products of TB12 perfectly supplement the great information and programs available on the app. I have been using the bands and rollers for a few years now and the results are amazing. For example, with my golf game before I started with these products I could drive a golf ball about 240 yards now I am getting over 320 yards.”

At the brand’s Facebook page, TB12 is rated a perfect 5/5 stars from 176 reviews. One commenter emphasizes how both the brand’s Method and products are just as good for the Average Joe as they are for Terrific Tom:

You don’t have to be a professional athlete to work out at TB12 […] After one year of treatment, I am in the best shape of my life. Injuries, particularly my knees, no longer plague me Now that I’ve completely given up free weights, I can actually now kick higher than I could before!”

At Amazon, The TB12 Method book itself scores 4.5/5 stars from 3,028 global ratings. We skipped over the comments by the more rabid Tom fans to find positive reviews that took a more measure assessment of the TB12 philosophy, as per the below:

I am not a Patriot fan, nor a worshipper of Tom Brady. I am a middle-aged female yoga teacher. But I like [TB12] very much and I think this book is worth reading. Especially for aging athletes[,] Tom and his trainer Alex Guererro have developed some key strategies for improving fitness, notably muscle pliability, which I’ve taken to the yoga studio with good success.”

Another reader noted that the book helpfully provides a detailed background that helps explain the reasoning behind the TB12 philosophy, which could perhaps help sway the skeptics out there:

I’m glad I got this book. Lots of info for the price and a different slant than a lot of ‘exercise’ books. The first two chapters explain why Brady discarded traditional training methods, e.g. lots of weightlifting, for his new methods. The “why” helps…Whether or not you buy into Brady’s ideas, if you are interested in personal health[,] I think this book is worth a read.

Is TB12 Worth It?

TB12 Sports Review

Well that’s the $64,000 question, isn’t it? After investigating the brand’s products, philosophy, customer feedback and external reviews, this TB12 Sports review can say that the brand is worth it. If you are a total beginner and are looking for structure and motivation to reach your fitness or weight-loss goals, this holistically designed system could be a good guide.
